J. Macklin’s Grill

One of the saddest "Prime Rib French Dips". The meat looked liked it was shaved what little there was. Dry, obviously had been sitting for awhile. The serving tray was wooden, with deep scratches. Not sure how sanitary it was. Running wood thru a dishwasher is never a good idea. My beverage was cold! Definitely not worth the $30+ for lunch.

I recently visited J. Macklin’s Grill for brunch and had a wonderful experience! The atmosphere is casual but elevated - great for catching up with friends or a low-key date. We ordered the chicken fried steak and the fish and chips. My friend said it was the best fish and chips he’s had in the DFW area, and the house-made tartar sauce was a standout! We ended the meal with the apple cobbler and ice cream, which I highly recommend. A huge thank you to our server, John, who provided excellent service and made the experience even better. Also, you can't beat $16 mimosa carafes. They have specials nearly every day. We will definitely be back!

Stopped in while visiting in town and this place did not disappoint! Food was great! Hot food. Fresh food and flavorful! Drinks were perfect!

Taylor exemplifies white-glove service behind the bar. She crafts phenomenal drinks while giving every one of her loyal guests the attentive, personalized care they deserve—especially after a long day of work.

We really enjoyed the atmosphere — it’s a welcoming and comfortable spot. Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite match the setting for us. The flavors felt a bit mild, and we were hoping for a little more variety or creativity on the menu. We also found it somewhat difficult to identify options that fit specific dietary restrictions. We’d love to see the menu expand or evolve, because this space has so much potential to be a standout in our community.

We were in the area visiting family and decided to stop in on our way back south. We ordered brunch and it was a typical brunch. Wasn't bad just wasnt anything spectacular. The southern benny was just like every other southern benedict breakfast I've eaten. My wife enjoyed the French dip. The patio felt nice and the wait staff was very friendly.

Amazing food and service! We had the Chicken Teriyaki Bowl and Club Sandwich. Both were fantastic. Our server Ashley was wonderful!

Thos restaurant was fairly good. Service was exceptional and my waitress was outstanding. The food on the other hand could have used a little more. I mean if I'm going to be spending the amount of money I spent then I would like to be satisfied at least. The spinach artichoke dip was alright. The chicken and waffles wasn't as good. Chicken was dry and needed more spices. The onion crisps on top were a great touch except they were cold and not crunchy at all. Now the spicy honey was fantastic. I will give them that. They should serve it with every dish. This really seems more of a family restaurant and not a bar and grill. There were a lot of lovely older couples and families with small children. This is definitely not a place for the singles.

Looks like this place has a real Happy Hour cheers vibe, complete with plenty of regular characters. We love a good Happy Hour, so we grabbed a hightop by the bar and ordered a couple of drinks. I got the cosmo, complete with tiny ice crystals on top, which is my favorite. We started with the spinach dip, served Hillystone style with salsa and sour cream. I was not expecting much, but wow, it was really good. Then we split the special sandwich of the night, a sweet and spicy ribeye sandwich. This one was not my favorite. It had too much bread and too many green peppers, which I am not a fan of, although my husband liked it... Like the song says, two out of three ain't bad, and we will definitely be back. Taylor was keeping the whole circus running and you can tell she has seen a thing or two at this bar.

I came in for lunch and was excited to try them. Perhaps I had my expectations too high... The ambiance was American casual dining. Pleasant, woodsy, but not overdone. The service was really good. Attentive yet not overbearing. The food here was just okay. I ordered the Prime Rib French Dip, and it just did not measure up to the competition. Nostalgia brought us back to J Macklin's in Coppell and I am so glad that it did! I had my usual kale salad with salmon and almond crusted goat cheese patty and it was just like I remembered. I'm thinking next time I will ask for a side of extra dressing so I can get all dippy with the items in my salad. We started with the spinach artichoke dip. I have to say, the crispy tortilla chip topped with a dollop of dip with a smidge of salsa and sour cream makes the most delicious bite! Hubby had the half Cobb salad with grilled chicken and a bowl of tomato basil soup. He probably could have had a cup because the bowl was a very generous portion. I appreciated that the grilled chicken seemed very fresh and flavorful. We love this place and we will definitely return!

There aren't a lot of options in Coppell, and while J. Macklin's was never 5-star, it was at least a solid family dinner option. That's no longer the case. Prices have steadily climbed upwards, which given the general economy, I understand. But somehow, quality has dipped and service has eroded significantly, so I'm not sure where my money is going. The quality of food has dropped as well, to the point that I might as well go to a Chili's. I don't know if the owner took his eyes of the ball as he's been figuring out San Daniele, but I don't see the point of returning to this restaurant. It's the middle gas option between Chili's and Victor's, which means you're somehow getting the worst of value and taste.

We had passed this restaurant SO many times. I finally convinced my husband to stop for dinner one evening. And man were they packed. It was about 7pm on a Friday night and the wait was about 30 minutes- please note there is not much of a waiting area. Had we waited until 7:30pm it seemed to clear out quickly. However, they were running out of EVERYTHING. And it was a Friday night- so I mean come on- since they were open until 10pm what would someone who came later than us have to choose from? We tried to order the spinach artichoke dip- sold out. So we got the brisket nachos- they were flavorful, but the chips were too thin and kept snapping once they got too heavy or soggy from the cheese. But they tasted good.... My husband got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans as his entrée. The steak was incrediblyyy fatty. I know they ran out of mashed potatoes not long after we got our food because I heard the server tell the table next to us- how do you run out of mashed potatoes?!? I got the grilled cheese with the tomato soup, and fries. I honestly could not complain, it was pretty good. It just seems there is room for improvement. I would come back again, but no rush.

Our teenage grandkids love J. Macklin's. Their food is different, but tasty (e.g. their chicken and waffles has a jalapeño on it!) the service there is consistently wonderful and the family atmosphere is very comfortable. This is a regular stop for our family because it makes us cool grandparents.

We've been to thisrestaurant several times over the past few years. We love dinning on the patio in spring and fall. We had dinner last night. It will be our last. They've become too expensive! The wife and I had a burger, a salad, 1 16 oz beer, and a margarita. With tip it was almost $80! That's insane. Nobody charges $11 for a beer. We will find another patio to dine on.

We stopped by on the weekend it was freezing. I wanted to try it since it seemed like a local favorite. On our first visit, we had Queso with Chips. It was delicious. We also had The Goat Cheese Salad. I have never had a Goat Cheese Patty but it was perfect on top of the lighter salad. For Entrees, we had the Shrimp and Grits and The Turkey Sandwich. It was so tasty we decided to come back again. On our second visit, we decided to have the Goat Cheese Salad again. We had more people in our party this time. We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak which was perfect. Also had the Brunch Enchiladas Verdes. They kicked up the spice with extra chiles. We also had The French Dip. The atmosphere is very casual with quite a few locals coming by. We had great service with Alberto. He is quite the personality. The food was quite tasty. We will definitely come by again since we are usually running errands in the area.

Bad food, bad service, high prices, poor quality food .. We got the brisket tacos ($16), cajun shrimp + avocado($20), and the parmesan truffle fries. The brisket was super dry and the taco itself was even more dry. It came with a side of corn that was made from frozen corn and was tasteless, too. The cajun shrimp + avocado dish barely had any avocado in it and it also came on a bed of tasteless frozen corn. The parmesan fries were the best thing we ordered but they came out room temperature. Our server didn't come to our table until 15+ minutes after we were seated. Another server was busy chit chatting with his friends and kept his table waiting for long periods at a time because he was distracted. The ambience was pretty nice but all the other downsides are definitely going to keep us from coming back here unless there is a family gathering or birthday we are invited to. Pro's : Has a good amount of parking, easy to find, good location if you live in Coppell.

Stopped in and grabbed a spot at the bar to have dinner and watch the World Series game. Breanna took great care of me behind the bar and she was very busy throughout the night. The food runners were very friendly and my food arrived at a very reasonable amount of time. I'm started with the Ahi Tuna Tar Tar appetizer and it was just average. The "crispy" wontons were pretty soft and almost stale, which was a bummer. The tuna tasted fresh and the coleslaw/cucumbers were refreshing but seemed like a somewhat cheap attempt at a nice dish. My Steak Frites with Parmesan Fries came out a few minutes after they cleared my dirty plate, which was perfect. A lot of places don't time this right when trying to eat dinner alone and you end up with multiple dishes in front of you at once, so I really appreciated this. The steak was cooked correctly and I enjoyed the herb butter melted on top. The fries were delicious and just how I prefer them, skinny/crispy! The aioli sauce on the side was a perfect addition to both the steak and fries. The quality of the meat seemed to maybe be subpar but for the price, it's tough to complain. Overall, it seemed like the staff all loved working together and they knew so many regular customers, which was cool to see. While the food quality might not be the highest like a fancy restaurant, the more than reasonable prices make up for it.

I'm surprised I haven't written a review for J Macs as it is a staple and go-to place. I usually go for brunch and love their mimosa carafes. My go-to order is the prime rib dip with fries. The fries are skinny and so delicious. it's enough to split and I often do with my mom. Service is always friendly and the atmosphere is upscale gastropub.

Our order was wrong, it seems that the cooker is not reading the instructions that our server made. I requested grilled onion on my teriyaki chicken bowl, it was raw. We ordered bacon on the sandwich, it wasn't there. I requested SWEET Ice tea, they don't have is labeled - so, very disappointed. But the server saved the dinner, he was always pending and fixing the mistakes... but maybe we won't return.

Great chicken and fries service is great I love going there it's just so good and bathrooms are very clean and when I say clean I mean very clean

We went for brunch on a Saturday. We asked to be seated outside as the weather was nice. Others patrons thought the same and so the outdoor seating was filled. Ordered Beignets as appetizer; they were served hot with different sauces - honey, strawberry and chocolate. The beignets were extremely good and was gone within seconds. For brunch we ordered Chicken and Waffles and a Breafast Platter. While the Chicken and waffles was served with maple syrup, the Farmhouse platter came with eggs your way, biscuit/ toast, bacon/sausage, skillet potatoes/jalapeno cheddar grits. The Chicken/waffles dish was excellent whereas the Breakfast platter was ok. Though the prices were a tad higher than what I would have paid for at other local eateries, overall, the food and service was good and we thoroughly enjoyed the ambience.

I won't be coming back. Twice my bill was over what I actually consumed. The first time I caught it while at the restaurant and it was corrected. Yestesday I was overcharged by 6.00 The staff that waited on us kept forgetting she had already taken our order as well, and asked some rather intruding questions. Seems like every time I go there is a mix up. Done with that, I won't even make the trip back to complain about the 6.00. keep it and your 10.00 drafts

The food & service were great here. We got sat right away & the server was very friendly. The potatoes & fries were delicious. I had a mess up on my order, but it was fixed right away. Would recommend!

We were looking for a place that sounded good and also had options for our very picky kids. We found JMacklin's here on Yelp a decided to give it a try. We started off with the Tuna Poké app and I loved it! My boys had Mac and cheese and chicken tenders and they were surprisingly delicious. I ordered a goat cheese salad and my husband ordered the fish and chips. Both were great, but the fish and chips portion could be bigger. We'll definitely be back as I am already craving their salad!

Stopped in on a Wednesday evening and were seated quickly. Food looked good but was mediocre at best. I had the Atlantic Salmon that looked to be pan fried. It was overdone and a medium size portion. Carrots were harder than al dente. My wife had the Skillet Chicken which I tasted. heavily herbed breading and it was overdone. She also ordered a small Caesar Salad that came after her entree was delivered. That's a simple delivery process that should never happen. The entree salads looked good at other tables but I was not there for that. For the price, I won't be back. I left hungry.

J Mack is within a shopping center right off Denton Tap Road. I was surprised to see that it's a few short steps from my gym as I never knew it was there. We sat in the bar area since the dining area was pretty crowded. I loved the service here. The wait sometimes took awhile but each person who came in contact with us was very friendly. We ordered the Hip Chips and the Truffle fries since we didn't know what we wanted to share. The hip chips are basically potato chips made in house tossed with a light sprinkling of parmesean and served with Tabasco based ketchup. They were pretty good although the truffle fries were the best out of the two for me. For entrees, I ordered the Turkey burger and my friend ordered the Cajun shrimp pasta special. He said it was very good. My Turkey burger was great. I love grilled onions so the onions along with the other fixins made for a delightful taste. I do feel there could be more variety on the menu including vegetarian options. It was a little hard for me to choose what to eat because most menu items seemed fried or beef based. I'm looking forward to checking out J Mack's during brunch though just to see if its a better option for me.

Zoey is the best bartender ever! She was so bubbly and attentive. The birria tacos were very good as always, and the vibes were right.

Always a good choice for a nice, casual atmosphere with predictably good food. Had the fish and chips. The coleslaw was very bland and could have used a bit of a kick. A little bit of vinegar would have gone a long way! I probably should have asked for some. Nice that happy hour is also on the weekends.

This is a place that I've driven past for years without stopping. I am happy that I started visiting this place because the food is superb. I recommend sitting at the patio especially at night when there's live music. The steak frites was the wrong temperature due to a mix up with the kitchen, but I've ordered takeout from here a few times and every takeout order has been accurate. This was my first in person experience. The skillet chicken is light and flavorful, highly recommend! I'd pass on the lobster tacos which are fairly small lobster pieces. There's a decent amount of tv screens if there's a game on that you can't miss. Last thing is the staff is hospitable. I've seen this place packed and they handle each customer with ease. Try this spot!

Met the girlies here for brunch. I realized that although I'd been here for happy hour several times, I'd never tried their food. It. Was. Delicious. We started with a couple carafes of Prosecco w juices in the side ($14 for a carafe - YES PLS). We each got different entrees and everyone LOVED their food. Our server was awesome and the food came out quickly. It was delicious, a great experience, and reasonably priced. This place is a gem.

Been coming here for years as a very friendly neighborhood bar and grill. We like the people working there, as service is good. Owners have become very greedy with the bar. $8 for a draft beer before, $10 for house wine- the bottle being served at retail stores does not come to $10. Knowing 2 people in the wholesale alcohol business, the wine prices have not gone up, as there are too many producers in the business. Even Victors, a much nicer place, sells house wines at $9 and their beer is much cheaper. We complained, as did some others on the pricing, but we know bartenders have no say. We heard their Italian restaurant is doing ok, but not great, so maybe trying to make up some of those margins. Nonetheless, we will take our dollars elsewhere, as the 2 other couples agreed- they will no longer patronize Macklins. I would expect the response to be the Italian place is doing great.

Well we took this food to go. The place looked amazing and wait for carry out food was great. But Mexican Corn not really. Corn with blob of cheese on its. Shrimp on salad excellent.

We had a large group and they took care of us. Good food at reasonable price. I enjoyed the fish and chips

Love this neighborhood restaurant so much! It has something for everyone. The food is top-notch. I love the grilled cheese and salmon dishes!

Y'all gotta go and try the STATE CLUB chicken tenders. The queso and chips were amazing as well, probably my favorite queso in all of Dallas. Ever so slightly annoyed that my mule was served in a silver mug instead of the tradition copper mug, but the drinks was still good.

Wanted to post update. Tried this place again after a not so great initial experience. Service was so much better and our waitress went above and beyond! Food was just as great as before. Will be coming again!

Love J Macklin's. Just wish they offered more food choices and more specials from time to time.

Usually this would be 5 star because I love this place so much but walked in hungry at 830 and they turned us away saying they were closed... why does everything say open till 9 pm if you won't take orders till 9. It was a Togo order and they had a full bar sitting there drinking with full glass. This is extremely annoying considering how many times we have supported this restaurant.

This place is awesome. The service is always great and the food is delicious. Took my employees here for a reward dinner. I had the Ribeye chicken fried, and one of my employees had the avocado tacos, and the others had their versions of the French dip. Everything was outstanding. For dessert, I had the bread pudding. That was just ok. Try the blackberry Mule you will love it!

This place is always so good but one of those places you sleep on because of all the other options in the area. Everything I've had here has been delicious whether it be a regular menu item or a special. The variety can't be beat when it comes to the specials and the staff is always extremely friendly. Shout out to Chandler who gave us excellent service and recommendations. He also gave us the inside scoop on job openings for our teenage son! Check this place out, especially when the weather cools a bit, the outdoor seating is really cute and we'll situated!

Came in with my family, and the food and service was fantastic. Also this place has such a nice aesthetic. Our server Chandler was attentive and made suggestions for my wife and I that we loved. Skillet chicken for me and some off menu Vegetarian options for my wife he called a hummus cucumber sandwich.

Courteous staff and quick service. Can occasionally get a little loud outside, but for the most part, it was very pleasant for us and our small daughter.

First & foremost Gabby was an amazing waitress. I was obsessed with her. My sister and cousin have tried J Macklins for brunch a few times. It's so close to home I've always wanted to try. Convinced the husband and we were impressed. The portions are large. My mother-in-law enjoyed the left overs. I went for the Texas omelet and the hub went for the Benny. To be honest the star of the show were the scalloped potatoes. Every restaurant cooks their breakfast potatoes the same. I'm not a fan. These scalloped potatoes won in my book. I know I'm not delusional because my mother-in-law was also obsessed. We tried the Manmosa and Rose Lemonade. Super delicious. Last but not least the bacon flight. I now know I prefer floppy bacon instead of crispy. The habanero with chopped green onions was yum.

We really enjoyed this place. Started with Chips, queso and Parmesan fries and that set the expectations. Grits and Shrimp, chicken fried steak and a cowboy burger were all outstanding. Large portions, probably share in most cases. A little pricey but the food is very good. Restaurant was clean and trendy. Noise level was moderate. Our waiter was helpful in selections and drink choices.

BIG SHOUTS OUT TO TODD an his staff for coming up with a concept of a restaurant that is so an well put together with all the bells an whistles in a simple not over the top way. You can feel the look of the food that they have created for a one stop dining. It's been awhile where I feel in love with everything iv order an went crazy on ordering at that. Every dish was a HOMERUN. The time they took to prep it all an made sure it came out piping hot an season just right was perfect. Cameron my server was so peaceful an a breath of fresh air. He was the idel server one should have. He loves what he doing an it shows. An kudos for him not allowing anything to get in his way no matter the difference he endures. Todd please keep my Burbon Strawberry drink as well.

I absolutely loved their fish & chips!! Service was attentive and prompt but not pushy. Had lunch with a friend and the atmosphere was fantastic!

We both enjoyed our salads as our main course tonight. No wait and the service was excellent.

Food was really good and service was great! I had chicken & waffles, my wife had the grilled cheese sandwich with tomato basil soup, which she raved about and my daughter had the Club sandwich that she really enjoyed along with the queso and chips. Chicken and waffles were good but not great, I expected the syrup to be a little more rich with butter and at least a little kick. The queso was ok but needs work.
