Stepping into the J. Press store in New York feels like entering a living chapter of American sartorial history. The Midtown shop is impeccably curated, offering timeless Ivy League staples—from the signature Shaggy Dog sweaters to soft-shouldered sack suits—all crafted with old-world quality and attention to detail. The staff are knowledgeable, respectful, and clearly passionate about the brand’s heritage. If you’re looking for clothing that quietly signals confidence, tradition, and enduring style, J. Press delivers in every way. A rare gem for those who appreciate the classics.

I had a great experience, the Oxford shirts are the best out there, the store is amazing the staff are really knowledgeable, and helpful. They have a really great suiting program, I was looking for a suit and wasn’t sure what I wanted. And they made it easy and fun. I couldn’t have had a better experience. Will be back for more clothing soon.

Long time….really long time client here. Have had my shirts custom made here for as long as I can remember, they have always been perfect, and in the rare instance that they weren’t, they were gladly fixed and returned quickly to me. The clothing is classic, well-made and lasts long enough that you could pass it down if properly cared for. Make sure that you Visit the New York store, as it is an experience. I specifically want to give kudos to Andrew, as he has been my advisor for many years. Andrew Can always be counted on for impeccable taste, style Advice and client service. BKW

This is my favorite men's store in NYC. It goes without saying that the clothes are top-notch -- J. Press is a legendary American brand, and I pretty much live in their oxford shirts and Shaggy Dog sweaters. But while I could get all that online, I never do, because I love coming into the shop. The place is always warm and inviting. And the staff there is great: genuinely interesting, talented, smart, curious people equally happy to hang out and talk clothes, or music, or whatever, or to go out of their way to help you get what you want. To me, it's the best shopping experience in Manhattan. Highly recommended.

I live in New London, NH. and have always done business over the phone with the New York store on more than twenty different occasions. After having such an accommodating and thoroughly professional experience with your floor person, Andrew, I have specifically asked to speak with him ever since whenever I needed a new jacket, suit or accessories. if your other sales people are as good as he is, then your store is in very fine shape indeed.

Great clothes, great staff, great atmosphere. If you have something you want, these guys will probably be able to find it for you and also tell you a lot about it. Ivan is awesome! Also, the bathroom is decorated really well, so bonus points for that.

One of my favorite menswear stores in New York! I was lucky enough to attend an event at the store recently, and met lovely sales associates and J. Press employees. The staff are always welcoming and the quality of the clothes is unmatched. You have a customer for life in me.

Google
This review is for the retail location in NYC. J. Press is one of my favorite clothing stores in the city. Most of the shirts in my closet were purchased at J.Press. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Whenever I pop in both Robert and Nick are able to assist with great style advice.

Yelp
Classic traditional American clothing brand (owned by the Japanese). Undarted odd jackets, beautiful suits, roomy shirts. J. Press is more an institution than anything else. The return of classic style! Ametora!

Yelp
Needed a suit in short time. J. Press pulled out all the stops to get my suit fitted in time despite short notice. Excellent service.

Yelp
Great service! David held a tux shirt for me, as I was arriving in town for a wedding. Justin helped me with the shirt and steamed out the wrinkles (very nice!). Everyone was so helpful and friendly!

Yelp
If I could give J Press in NYC a zero rating, I would. We ordered 2 expensive custom suits from J Press. They said it would take about 2 months to do. They never contacted us, and after more than 3 months, and several false claims that the suits were simply taking longer than expected, they finally told us that the salesman was ill, and that one of the fabrics was unavailable. As a result, they didn't order the second suit--for reasons that made no sense. When we asked them to order the one suit with the available fabric, they advised us that they couldn't find the order, and wanted us to 'remember' all of the custom elements of the suit. We ended up cancelling both suits, and, after close to 4 months of waiting, will go to a reputable store for custom suits. If you are looking for a custom suit, and a company that provides service, this is the wrong place to go.

Yelp
Great guys that work here. Stopped by on brief visit to NYC and picked up couple of ties. Always classic Ivy League look that you can't find where I live.

Yelp
I ordered the wool window pane suit 2B. The fit is suboptimal at best. I've been a 42 R all my adult life and never had a suit so tight in the shoulders and impossibly tight pants. These suits are made in China and not up to snuff. This is disappointing. The return process is a throwback to 1999 with a ridiculous restocking fee.
