Families with young children (or really, anyone of any age) who is in the Hocking Hills area needs to stop by the Jack Pine Studio and watch a demo. The crew at the glassblowing studio work all day to make the signature Jack Pine glass pumpkins, and also other glass sculptures and art ... but mostly pumpkins. It's amazing to watch them work with the hot molten glass, shape it and hammer it down to create actual objects.
The demos are free, and there is a small seating area outside where you can watch the demos take place outdoors. There is also the option to step inside and watch, too. Best of all: The demos are free! And you don't need to make an appointment or reservations or anything -- just show up and take a seat, and watch the magic happen. When we were there, there was a woman who was narrating what was happening and what the artisans were doing as it was taking place.
If you're so inclined to buy yourself a piece of glass art, you can visit the gift shop, which is right in the same building. There's pumpkins, but also all kinds of other things, like vases, glass ornaments, bowls, and also metal sculptures, too. You might also see a dog there (I think her name was Mathilda?), the resident Chihuahua.
