Came here to claim the free clam chowder as I haven't found the best clam chowder in the lower mainland yet. The thickness and flavor of the chowder is good. Very very little clams. Frozen pack of clams are quite cheap in my opinion. The shrimp croissant was fantastic! So fresh and lots of shrimp. The biggest downside is the liquid coming out of the mix soggifies the croissant. Really need to strain the ingredients first. The fish and chips were ok. Fries were fried well. Really like the coleslaw with apples. The fish itself was just mediocre with a very very thin coating of batter that just falls off when you cut into the fish. They gave us complimentary vanilla meringue but I accidentally forgot to eat mine =(

We grabbed lunch to go on a rainy day. Figured it was the perfect weather for some clam chowder. We also wanted to try their fish and chips. While ordering, I saw the shrimp roll croissant on the menu and made an impulse decision to try that too. I liked the shrimp roll. It was nice to see that they didn’t skimp on the shrimp! The fish and chips were also very good. Beer battered cod was seasoned perfectly and the fish was flaky and moist. However, I would like to point out that for the same price I can get halibut at Cockney Kings. The clam chowder was very creamy and comforting but I felt it could have more clam flavour. I was a little disappointed, so I don’t think I’d order it again.

I was in the area and suddenly had a craving for fish and chips, and found this place nearby. It’s a Filipino-style fish and chips shop. The interior has a nice, distinctive vibe. The fries were fried really well and tasted great. The clam chowder was perfect for this chilly early-winter weather — warm and comforting, with a decent amount of ingredients. The fish was nicely fried too: crispy on the outside and tender inside. The only downside was the coleslaw — they used a sesame-style dressing, and I think it would taste even better with a more traditional dressing. Another thing they could improve is the table cleanliness. Otherwise, we’d definitely come back again if we’re passing by.

Cozy seafood restaurant with a small menu of fewer than 10 items, but everything is made with fresh ingredients and full of flavor and spices. We ordered the fish sandwich and fish and chips, both were delicious. The staff were great, kind, and very welcoming.

The cool early-fall weather was perfect for a warm bowl of chowder. The chowder here was rich, creamy, and packed with ingredients — my friend and I each had one, and it was super filling. We also ordered a shrimp roll to share. The seasoning was a bit too salty, but the portion of shrimp was generous. Service was very friendly, and overall, it was a cozy and satisfying meal. Definitely a great spot if you fancy a warm chowder during the winter days.

We had the clam chowder, fish sandwich, popcorn shrimps and the salt and vinegar fries. The clam chowder has the right amount of creaminess, with a smooth, velvety feel. The fish and shrimps were fried to perfection. We liked the mango tamarind sauce that came with the popcorn shrimps, but the tartar sauce is very flavorful, too. The portions were good for sharing and the prices are reasonable. A bonus were the ube meringue ( complimentary) and it was good! For dessert, sticky toffee pudding didn’t disappoint. Check this place out if you are in the Fraser St. Area.

The fish and chips were incredibly crispy—really impressive! Highly recommended. The clam chowder wasn't for me, as it was a bit too heavy on the carrots and potatoes. The staff were very friendly.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, with excellent customer service. The fries were amazing as well, they said they use a salt and vinegar style seasoning, which really stood out. I also enjoyed the apple slaw.

Jack's Chowder recently opened up at Bentall Centre and is a fantastic choice for lunch, as the area was lacking the option for chowder, and fish and chips! Their fish portions are actually quite large, so an order of one piece of fish is actually sufficient for lunch. Their chowder is very thick, full of hearty ingredients. Overall, this is a decent option for lunch.

Recommended by a good friend, I finally got the chance to try out Jack's Chowder. My mom and I both love clam chowder. Since we happened to be in the area craving something warm in the cold weather, we decided to stop by for their signature soup!  We came on a weekday afternoon after lunch so it wasn't busy. The place is small and cozy with a limited menu. It can only seat about 20 people, including tables outside the restaurant. If you subscribe to their newsletter, you get a free chowder bowl! They are also expanding with a new location at the Bentall Center.  Unfortunately, the sourdough bread bowls were sold out during our visit so we ordered clam chowder bowls and a shrimp croissant. The soup was thick, rich and creamy, served with oyster crackers. However, I wish there were more clams. The shrimp croissant was delicious, filled generously with fresh shrimps and vegetables, all balanced nicely in a buttery, flaky croissant.

Friendly atmosphere Went in to try the chowder, but ended up with the 1piece of fish and chips. It was delicious, I don't usually like tartar but theirs is definitely good. The coleslaw had bits of apple and was also really good. I couldn't finish the fries there was so much Another couple who were talking horse racing (so I politely chatted with them) raved about the Cioppino... next time The server, unexpectedly brought a delicious meringue for dessert. Delicious Definitely worth checking out

I stopped by Tuesday late evening for to go order. The service was friendly and very kind! As it was warm day, they offered me water while waiting. So sweet ladies. I had one piece of fish and chips. The cod was very juicy and thick! Very fluffy. The fries already had seasoning and ready to eat right away. I found a little bit salty but delicious. The clam chowder was so good too! Oyster crackers comes together. All foods had big portion. You wil be satisfied

I tried the chowder, fish burger, and sticky toffee pudding. The way they make the fish itself is probably the best I've had in vancouver. This beats pajo's hands down. The batter is very light, crispy, and flavorful. Their chowder is also pretty good too, but I find their sticky toffee pudding a bit odd. I wasn't expecting it to be like a non solid take, and the flavors was not something I expected.

Jacks has had quite the presence on social media, so it's been on my radar for quite some time. Its a bit out of the way for me but I finally managed to hit it up. Pro tip, if u register your email on their website you can receive a free chowder with $15 purchase. I took advantage of this and had chowder with my 1 piece fish and chips. Lets start with the chowder. It's thick, almost holds the spoon up! It's also overly salted, and is just ok tasting. Its missing something that I just can't put my finger on. The piece of Cod is long and a little too thin. The technique for the batter seems on point, and it's super crispy. However, the flavor just comes up short. They are trying real hard, tho. Its also a whiff on the tarter sauce, a key component of any fish and chips. The curry coleslaw tries SUPER hard, but again, doesn't come together well. Lots of competing ideas and flavours in that dish. Overall, Jack's is a good concept and run well. Its just missing a little something...oh wait, I know what it is. Its doing so much well - marketing, service and concept. They just missing talent in the kitchen. Jacks doesn't have the magic. Note. Yelp hours for this restaurant are not correct. OK, we have been trying so hard to come to Jack's chowder and I can honestly say now I know why people rave about it! My daughter had the Sourdough bread bowl with the New England Clam Chowder. Also come with Oyster crackers. She absolutely loved it. I tried it and it's super creamy and tasty. I tried the Fish Sandwich and WOW!!!! The batter on the fish hands down is the best I've ever had. Super light but the crunch is amazing. The tarter Sauder, housemade was excellent. Loved the B&B pickles and it has a slice of processed cheese. I'm not a fan of processed cheese and for the quality of the sandwich I would pay more for cheddar cheese but that's me. I had an email for a free chowder so we asked for that to go. The staff are lovely and so nice. They even dropped off complimentary meringues. People at the next table had the fish and chips and the portions were huge! I can't wait to come back. I want to try the Dill Pickle Popcorn Shrimp. Definitely a hidden gem and a must try!

Wow that's one delicious bowl of clam chowder! The bacon bits made it extra delicious and the fish and chips was also amazing. We shall return!

Had a revisit media for Jack's chowder and it was a blast! They have a delicious special shrimp roll available for a limited time due to a new season. Their classic chowder and fish and chips is def a must get. Service and restaurant were good and clean.

Great clam chowder spot and their fish and chips are pretty good as well. There are only three tables and a counter top, so be prepared to wait or takeout. The chowder itself is really good, hearty, and delicious. The sourdough bread bowl was also a nice treat, but the chowder is the star. The fish and chips were crispy, the fish wasn't overly battered, and the tartar sauce and malt vinegar were on point. Their fries are pretty generous, enough for two people. Great rainy day comfort food!

Staff was very friendly, halibut & fries were delicious, my husband didn't care for the chowder because a spice that was in it. I don't blame the business because he's just a salt and pepper guy, I'm sure it was delicious. Business is very small & a bit hot inside. If ur dining there I recommend sitting outside when it's warm outside.

New restaurant by Shameless Buns! They specialize in clam chowder, so rich and creamy - love the addition of bacon bits + lobster crackers. Service is pretty quick, cute cozy spot tucked on Fraser St :) Check it out!

Ok. I hesitate putting a review for this place just because it's already such a busy place! Been here twice, and wanted to bring friends on the third time, but they do not take reservations. They only have a handful of small tables to eat inside. However, in all fairness, I will say the fish and chips are solid quality; large crispy fish, and thicker cut, hot fries. Each extra piece of fish for $7. It's a great way to split one order of F&C and just add more fish if you're not a major chips person. The New England clam chowder is hearty and thick. The dill in the chowder may not be to everyone's liking, but do order extra crack on bacon ends with it for $2. Maybe I'll try adding on the lobster oil drizzle next time? Surprisingly, the shrimp croissant roll was loaded and filling. Not as heavy fair as fish and chips, but makes for very good eating! Service was prompt and pleasant. I am sure we will go there again soon!

Corvette was the sweetest. The clam chowder had the biggest pieces of bacon and had bacon oil for a burst or flavor. The salt and vinegar fries were fantastic as well. Glad we stumbled upon this fellow Filipino- owned gem. I didn't take any pics unfortunately, because I was busy stuffing my face with an enormous cut of fish and chips. So good.

I read all the good reviews and I am totally perplexed. Yes the portions were large but the best fish and chips in the city. Seriously? The batter was not crispy and the cod was mushy. Tartar sauce was bland and not true tartar sauce. no diced capers or pickle. So zero acid. Fries were a bit salty but nicely cooked. Cole slaw was okay. Chowder was good but not great. Service was friendly. Not inexpensive and we left over a third of our food on the plate. Would not return

Don't know where to begin narrating such great experience we had at Jack's! The food and service both exceeded expectations! Every portion was generous and flavor concept was thoughtful and innovative across all dishes we've tried. Fish & Chips - Fish batter was on point. Right thickness and crunch! Stayed crispy on a 2 hour drive to Whistler. Chips had their infamous "sinigang" touch inherited from its sister food truck Shameless Buns. Unique spin on the coleslaw - super yum! Chowder - Packed with generous chunks of real clam meat, not just the faint suggestion you get elsewhere. Jack's delivers a perfectly seasoned bowl with hearty, satisfying bites in every spoonful. Perhaps what surprised me the most are the PUDDINGS!! Try any/all of them! I had the toffee and the coconut ones which are both OUTSTANDING. But I have a personal preference for coconut so I am still dreaming about that one. The place is clean and the staff Jay and Nash were so accommodating. They were patient with my questions as I narrowed down my order and never made me feel rushed. They offered suggestions based on my taste preferences and you can tell they're just as passionate about their food as though it's their own. That says a lot about the owners of this place. Overall take - highly recommended! Looking forward to get back!

Been on my list to try for quite a while. Tried the chowder(not in the bread bowl) & fish sandwich. Tasty but both of us found the chowder a little to salty for us but we'll definitely try them again when Bentall opens.

I grew up on the East Coast in the US and have had many bowls of New England Clam Chowders throughout my life. This is THE BEST I've ever had, hands down. The consistency isn't too muddy so you don't feel really bloated with dairy afterwards, you can taste each ingredient (and it's fresh!) and it has just the right amount of heartiness in a chowder that I prefer, not too heavy, not too light. The salt & vinegar fries were also delish - thin and crispy, and not saturated with too much vinegar (but if you prefer more, there's a bottle on the table to douse them with). I typically don't like battered and deep fried foods, but the fresh crispiness of the popcorn shrimp and fish sandwich veered from the way too batter-heavy, deep fried foods I steer away from. The house made mango and tartar sauces for the shrimp were delightful and the sweet pickles in the fish sandwich gave a really nice flavour accent. Lastly, but not leastly (I know that's now a word), the sticky toffee pudding was fun too. I LOVE traditional sticky toffee pudding so if you're expecting that, think again because they put a twist on this! There's real toffee, and lots of it, not just toffee flavouring but big toffee chunks. It was a great end to a wonderful meal. Service was lovely and I think they're doing a great job in keeping to a small menu that they've perfected.

Very small restaurant with only few seats. Service was great, the owner offered free lemon meringue cookies to every customers in the restaurant. Which was really nice. However, I couldn't find any specific specialties from the chowder. Seafood in the chowder was rubbery; moreover, the flavor was not there even with the kick of dill. The fish sandwich was extremely oily and overcooked.

Good chowder. The atmosphere was nothing special but it was good enough. You don't need the oil. The soup is good enough .

Food was wayy to oily and the wait was too long. Had the fish sandwich and the bread was soaked in oil, and oil all over the container. I was really excited from the tiktoks, but unfortunately dissapointed :(

Big fresh cod pieces with. Light crispy batter! The salt and vinegar fries are delicious! They offer up likely the biggest pieces of fish in the Lower Mainland!

great place but they used too much salt.. i would prefer to ad my own.. nice cozy place however
