Why the Best Wine Shop in Sonoma Is a Gas Station

"Tucked into a former 76 service station on Sonoma's main drag along Broadway, Jack's Filling Station looks unassuming from the outside — a six-tank fuel stop with a petrol-can–carrying gorilla logo — but when I step inside it feels like my go-to bottle shop. Opened in 2019 by restaurateurs Chad and Erika Harris after the city declined their restaurant proposal, the place was designed to be welcoming to both kids and adults and mixes a tightly curated selection of local, small, and natural wines (what Joel Burt describes as the “New California” scene) with craft beer, vinyl, retro arcade games, toys, kitschy kitchen gear, spices (I even spotted Philippine banana ketchup), picnic gear, and beverage-packed fridges and cabinets in the back. The shop champions casual crowd-pleasers like Glou Glou and Superbloom while also stocking rare bottlings supplied by Las Jaras (including a sparkling wine and Alder Springs Vineyard Chardonnay), which makes it easy to explore new wines without intimidation; prices are approachable, and locals praise its food and service (one winemaker even calls the burgers the best in town and another notes “the cleanest handles in town”)." - Stacy Briscoe

I came in for diesel fuel. One of the few stations in Sonoma that you can buy diesel fuel. I could not get the pump to work. I way only about to pump 5 cents. I tried a different pump and could not get it to work. I went to find an attendant and all I found was a locked door. I had to go elsewhere for fuel.

Close to a bunch of wineries in Sonoma. Came here after visiting Buena Vista. Expensive if yr car only takes premium like mine! $127 for 22 gallons.

Great selection of local Brews from Wineries and breweries you'll spend a few minutes hanging out Beyond getting gas

What a nice surprise! We stopped here for a quick bite to eat in between wine tastings and it hit the spot! Yes you can get gas, interior is very on theme with lots of nice local brews and menu is pretty straight to the point. Their fryer was down but the burger itself was really good--grilled onions, gooey cheese, and a nice smashed patty. Service was friendly and fast, couldn't ask for much else, pretty solid spot.

Great little lunch spot, burgers are made to order and they have a little outdoor seating area. Great service! Thank you so much for going out of your way to make sure our dog had water. We really appreciated it!

You can still get gas. However, this is a cool repurposed gas station with an excellent food truck. The food truck Little Lou's specializes in burgers. I ordered the Big Lou 5/5. All seating is outside picnic tables.

Such a charming stop if you're looking for a quick gas fill, snack, or bottle of wine in Sonoma! The wine selection was honestly spectacular with tons of options including Martha Stoumen and other favorites. The merchandise was also well-designed for anyone seeking a unique souvenir.

Avoid. First pump we tried didn't work. Entered all card info, selections, etc only for no fuel to come out. The second pump we tried, the stop mechanism was broken so gasoline was spilling out of the pump, all over the car and the ground. At $5.16/gallon I don't really want to be paying for gas on the ground. I let the attendant know about the broken pumps and the spill. She did literally nothing and barely said a word back to me. An apology? A gas card for the money we wasted? Or most importantly, a way to quickly clean up spills? We were left on our own to clean all the gas off our car, and sadly, the massive puddle of gas on the ground is heading straight for the creek in this rainy weather. We both have metallic tastes in our mouths after all the fumes and gas on our shoes. We used to like this neighborhood gas station but after this episode we would never consider returning and will warn friends and family to avoid it as well. Should overflowing our gas tank result in any damage to the car, we know where we are bringing the bill. We should have gone to Shell across the street which was only 3 cents more and they actually maintain their pumps.

This is such a fun spot, clean self-serve gasoline air nozzles at the pump and water the owners make this really fun there's vinyl records for sale local beer and wine working vintage pinball machine toys and coffee table books is such a fun spot across from the MacArthur hotel
