Google
Our first stop at Washinton Island was to Jackson Harbor Soup! We had heard great things from the locals about this place. The service was quick, good was delicious and fresh, and lots of seating outside near the water. There were plenty of people working and very attentive to customer needs and flow of the ordering. Highly recommend this as a must-do!

Google
Cute spot on the water for lunch. We had BLTs and our for dessert. The bacon was perfectly crispy and tomatoes were very fresh/ripe. Cherry pie was a good balance of sweet/tart. A great spot after hiking Rock Island!

Google
Excellent place to grab a bite and enjoy a scenic view. Their soups are phenomenal, and their sandwiches are outstanding. I've given most of their menu items a try, but I always keep returning to the undisputed reigning champ: their chicken quesadillas. Beautifully cooked and seasoned tender chicken with cheese, peppers, onions, and tomato cradled within a mildly crispy tortilla. Their service is top-notch, friendly, and Johnny-on-the-spot. Overall, it is a pleasant dining experience, so grab your friends and family and come on by and grab a bite to eat and enjoy the lovely view of heaven on earth.

We LOVED the food and the environment! We will be back over and over! This is the last day of our vacation and wish we would have come here first.

Google
A diverse menu, scenic location, and excellent food. I had the Jen (essentially a turkey Rueben) and the French onion soup in a bread bowl. Both rivaled the best similar entrees I’ve had anywhere. My boys had grilled cheese sandwiches and said they were great. The building is modern and in good condition. The aesthetics are impressive, beginning with its remote location (as far from the ferry dock as possible), the driveway (a gravel road that winds through the trees), and the views of: Jackson harbor, Rock Island, the Maritime museum, and commercial fishing hulls. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available, with outdoor consisting of both a deck and lawn area, with fire pit, along the water. The only area for improvement I noted is that there’s only one bathroom for the entire restaurant. I strongly recommend this establishment.

Google
When a place says half the adventure is finding us, well, i usually take that challenge. Located just a few steps from the Rock Island departure point, this spot might be remote, but you can't miss it when you arrive. We stopped in for a quick bite and ended up sampling a bit of everything. Our gf family spoke highly of the potato soup, while the French onion soup and BLT were also hits. The cherry pie was fantastic and a must have. Indoor and outdoor seating is available , and while we weren't heading out to hike Rock Island or kayak the waters of Lake Michigan, i could certainly see how coming ashore to a hot bowl of soup would be a welcome reward.

Google
This place was recommended by a local we met at a coffee shop. Does not disappoint. The beet cheese soup was delish. Also had the chicken pesto panini. Was so hot but still sat outside, both shaded and full sun spots. We had a very lovely view and even ran into some people we know from our town lol! Very good experience don’t miss this spot.

Google
It was good!!! It was a lot of food I couldn’t finished it all! It’s in a very nice location, right by the water with a nice view of everything around! This is a place I’d recommend stoping by! Closed kinda early so keep that in mind!

Yelp
Looking for a casual spot with amazing food and a stunning view while on Washington Island? Look no further! The soup here is so delicious, you'll crave it even in the summer. Their sandwiches are incredibly fresh and quite large. Plus, they have a surprisingly good wine selection to complement your meal. Enjoy the charming rustic outdoor bar, perfect for a duo. The counter service is friendly and prompt.

Ben W.

Yelp
Was just exploring Washington island for the first time, when I followed a car into the parking lot and knew I'd hit the jackpot with outside fireplace and location overlooking rock island and beach area! The staff was so friendly and helpful with picking out the best food but from the various pies to the hot and cold sandwiches to the service, it's just a must stop lunch area that locals and visitors love! Highly recommend!

Sue S.

Yelp
Oh so worth the trip! Yum yum the beer cheese soup and Dagwood sandwich. Even if you have a big mouth you need an extender to bite in to this tall delicious sandwich! I ate 1/2, took the other 1/2 home and ate 1st quarter for breakfast and the 2nd for lunch the next day! My friend got carrot cake and I swear she got a1/3 of the delicious cake with 3 forks. We still couldn't finish. JUST GO HERE!

Shawna L.

Yelp
Long lines, but delicious food and friendly service. Sandwiches and soup were delicious--didn't try the carrot cake but it looked amazing!

Charlie J.

Yelp
Every time I come here I love it more. Like it makes me happy. The kitchen and counters are buzzing with people who love their jobs. I've been thinking about the french onion soup for two days now. Sooooo good. Great beverage selection. Lovely patio on the water and huge deck. I could easily spend an afternoon here. Please keep this gem alive - spend your money here!!

Tee D.

Yelp
Awesome sandwich and soup lunch spot with great view. Get there early on the weekend or you will be waiting.

Mister M.

Yelp
Incredibly busy, but you'll know why. Delicious homemade soups and sandwiches on a property overlooking scenic Jackson Harbor and Rock Island. The customer service counter personnel are extremely helpful and the waitstaff hustles better than anyone. It's a gem!

David K.

Yelp
Great soup run by a wonderful family... close eyes and pick, you can't go wrong. Try the desserts as an appetizer while you wait.

Steve G.

Yelp
No, no, no. Nothing here is worth the wait or hassle. They handled a long line at a glacial pace. We stood there for about an hour just waiting to put in an order. When we finally got our food, it was all kinds of MEH. When your customers are literally trapped on an island, I guess there's little incentive to do anything beyond the bare minimum to satisfy them. Yes, we technically ate lunch. But if I could do it over again, we'd eat lunch somewhere else.

Shunghilaska M.

Yelp
Recently had a vacation on Washington Island. We ate at several restaurants and this was the best. There were two soups available one was vegetarian and another was vegan. My beer cheddar soup was stellar as was my pesto, blue cheese sandwich. The menu informs you as to what is vegetarian, what is vegan, and gluten free choices. You order at the counter and your food is brought to your table. There is plenty of outdoor seating and it was a beautiful day. There were lawn games for the kids and for the adults. Rock Island is across the water and adds to the ambiance to the place. Sitting near the door I saw some very good looking desserts coming out. If you're on the island I would highly recommend this place. Don't miss it!

Seth D.

Yelp
The food was amazing! Savored every bite. The service was slow and unprofessional though. Took 84 years to get any food or drinks. They never checked on us until we were nearly done eating. The list of the specials was way too long to remember. The location was beautiful and would go back if the service improves because that food was really good.

Steve W.

Yelp
Good thing they had the OPEN flag flying or we would not have pulled in. Cashier and servers were very friendly and seemed happy to be there French onion soup and half french dip sandwich were very good. The au jus spilled on the plate and made the bun soggy but was very tasty. The potato soup was hardy and creamy. Pulled pork special was perfect. Heck of a view and definitely a repeat.

Andi S.

Yelp
First time visiting this place. Had both beer cheese and potato soup with half sandwiches. Nice portions and just delicious! French dip is great! We will be back whenever visiting the island!

Colby S.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch while exploring Washington island. Amazing sandwich and even better cider made right here in the island. There doesn't seem to be a bad item in the menu. Nice little seating area outside in the water, very pet friendly.

Mark D.

Yelp
Good soup, good sandwiches. If it's the weekend, you'll probably be waiting a while, but that's OK. There's a line for a reason. The soup specials are hit or miss. If in doubt, stick with the regular soups. (The potato is great on a chilly day.) The sandwiches are straightforward, competent and free of gimmicks. You just want a simple BLT? They have a simple BLT. The sleeper sandwich, if there is one, is hidden on the back of the menu in the kids section. The grilled cheese--the multi-layer "Gourmet Griller"--is great. It's the sandwich that made my son love grilled cheese. Add on top of this a nice selection of beverages, and you have a great place for a good lunch. We'll be back.

Nicole L.

Yelp
Who eats soup on. 90 degree day! This Yelper! The reason? My friend highly recommended this place and said - even if it's hot out you need to try the soup. She was right. Their soup is life. Not sure what they put in the soup but it was pretty amazing. We were starving when we arrived on Washington Island and my GPS wasn't working so make sure you get a map to find this place - it's a hidden treasure. The line was long, but we got our orders in, copper a squat and waited about 15 minutes. I got a 1/2 sub with a cup of Grandma's Potato Soup. It was excellent. The soup was rich for a cup was enough for me. There were 4 soups when we visited and a good selection of sandwiches and fresh baked desserts too. They have a great outdoor seating area. I recommend doing an early or late lunch to avoid the crowds.

Bill M.

Yelp
Possibly a neon sign needed on the road to make sure you get the right drive way, but this is the hidden spot you want to find. The space is handicap accessible. The food is so delightful. I had the beer cheese soup and grilled cheese, plus a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie. The patio has a nice cover and you get a nice view of Rock Island. When you're looking for something other than burgers or bar food, this is the spot on Washington Island to go to. It's my new go to anytime I visit. Thank you to a great staff.

Jeff R.

Yelp
Great find!!! GF options. Nice little find - off the beaten path great outdoor seating as well.

John P.

Yelp
Really great food... faster service!!! Nice place on the water!! (Also had Wi-Fi!! ) We had the whole family fed in short order! Great stuff on the menu--highly recommended if you're on the northeast side of the island!

Courtney R.

Yelp
We attended a rehearsal dinner here this weekend and WOW! The staff were amazing and very accommodating with everyone's needs/wants. The beach area made for great conversations and dinner location as well. Must try while visiting the island!

Josh H.

Yelp
Great view, great sandwiches, just okay soup. Both soups we had were severely lacking salt. The giant carrot cake is no joke. It's a huge slice and very tasty. As for covid precautions... of the 5 employees only two knew how to wear a mask. Most patrons were wearing masks but if someone came in without one, no big deal...

Norbert D.

Yelp
we went to Jackson Soup on a tip from a friend. What a wonderful place, We had 4 different sandwiches and soups and they were fresh and extremely tasty. We also enjoyed the pleasant personalities of all the people we met there. Our friends bought more soup to go to enjoy the next day

Kent S.

Yelp
BEST. SOUP. EVER. I ordered the daily specials--Turkey/wild rice soup with a beef sandwich--as a combo and they were fantastic! My wife had a soup bread bowl and we agree that this is a must-do on Wash Island. Top notch food and service, and conscientious Covid handling. Highly recommended!

Carrie S.

Yelp
Seriously great food. My family and I went for Mother's Day lunch. Everyone of us loved our meals. They even send little bite size cheesecakes for free that day. Brought home a slice of bumble pie and it was delicious too.

Noelle L.

Yelp
Located RIGHT near the Washington to Rock island ferry launch, this is a lovely place to grab sandwiches before heading on for a day at Rock island. Super kid friendly due to the friendly staff multiple kids options and outdoor games on their beautiful big lawn such as beanbag toss/corn hole, massive Jenga and more. The outdoors seating is quite nice and the view of the lake is fantastic. Indoor seating for four tables or so. I saw quite the variation of age there from little kids to older couples. My only complaint would be the chips weren't a hit and one of our cookies was day old and hard while the rest were still warm from the oven. Sign on the road said open only Fri to Sun but it was open for us on a Thursday. One vegan sandwich and several vegetarian ones.

Alison B.

Yelp
We've been by this place every year for the past 3 plus years as we go to Rock Island to camp. This is the first year we just stayed on Washington Island and had time to try a few places that were still open. SO glad we came here! We were able to use WiFi and get some work done as well as enjoy delicious soup and sandwiches and amazingly delicious gingersnap cookies! Extremely friendly owners and staff! Great deck and outside area. Beautiful view! Will definitely be back to enjoy Grammys Potato Soup!

Edward N.

Yelp
Would have loved to have eaten there but the line was 40 deep and it was moving 1 party every 10 minutes. Left and got sandwiches elsewhere, immediate service and was great.

Seona K.

Yelp
We took a day trip to Washington Island and found this place for lunch. The best food! We got beer potato soup in bread bowl, quesadilla and a sandwich along with bumble pie. Bread was so good! The pie was e best ever I tasted. If this place is in Chicago area I would go every week. The young lady who was delivering the food to our table was impressive as well. Thank you all for your hospitality.

Patty Z.

Yelp
Holy Cow! I had to go all the way up to Washington Island in Door County to find the best of the BEST! We took a ferry over to the island and had no data for GPS and happened upon this cute little place. The views are amazing and I appreciated the fireplace on a cold fall day. Everyone was so friendly. Then came the food....AMAZING! I did a soup and half sandwich combo. The Reuben was quite literally the finest I ever had. Most places skimp on the Thousand Island dressing and it ends up dry - not here! The bread was lightly toasted and the corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss and dressing were balanced and delicious! I opted for the French onion soup, which was a good choice - lots of yummy croutons and Swiss cheese melted over a thin herby broth with lots of onions. And just when I thought I died and went to heaven, out came the cherry pie. Now cherry pie is a staple of the Door County area, but this one I had was exceptional due to the flaky buttery crust. It's the finest one I've had up here! I wish I could give this place more than five stars!

Yelp
Tuesday, Aug 17, 2021, 11:40 AM The Jackson Soup has been recommended by several people over the past week while in the area. Normally an 11:40 seating would be ahead of the rush but not here. There was a twenty five minute line to ORDER and the food wasn't ready for another twenty five. Two orders for the Pick Two option on soup and 1/2 sandwich: Ginger Carrot / Cubano and Beer Cheddar / Pesto Chicken. Hint of carrot flavor was as good as it got in the soup category. The sandwiches appeared to have fresh quality bread and garnish but generally lacked flavor. It really didn't warrant the time for the lunch. I can pack sandwiches this good and have lunch in less than an hour and a half. Serving times are an operational issue that a good manager can solve. For a place that embraces soup as a namesake, they desperately need to improve the soup quality.

Karen R.

Yelp
Great place to eat after returning on the Rock Island ferry. Chicken and pesto sandwich was delicious. Plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the ambience.

Melissa B.

Yelp
Great spot right on the water near the ferry to Rock Island State Park. Very good sandwiches, soups and salads. Good giant cookies too. Indoor and outdoor seating and dog friendly. Highly recommend!

Pete M.

Yelp
Really wanted to try this place as we looked over the menu, but I didnt have any cash on me and their credit card machine was down and they weren't taking plastic. Usually, I completely understand, but I have to ding the place as we didnt know this until after we sat down, contemplated the menu for 10 minutes or so and then went up to order where they had a small sign up at the cash register. There should have been a sign right as you walked in so that people dont waste so much time before realizing they cant eat there. I'd love to try their food, but Washington Island isn't something you just do on a whim; for me it's a 3 hour car ride, a 30 minute ferry ride then another 10-15 drive just to get there.

Ron G.

Yelp
So if your name is "soup" , you would think that the place offers amazing soup. Nope! Average soup? Nope! Terrible soup? Bingo! Ordered the Broccoli cherry soup. Sounded interesting so I ordered that with a Dagwood sandwich and a slice of cherry Pie. The cream based soup was separated, thin as water literally, and no clue how cherries were involved. No sight, smell or taste of cherries in the soup. Just straight up terrible soup. The sandwich however was amazing. Fantastic bread with top quality meats. The sandwich was good enough to deserve forgiveness for the soup, if the place was not named "Soup". The cherry pie was amazing as well. In summary, I recommend they just stop serving soup and change their name, then they have everything else perfect!

Marisa S.

Yelp
Fantastic food served in hearty portions! The staff was friendly and the view was wonderful- a must-visit on Washington Island. I had the combo with the garden salad and JH-sub-a-drift and enjoyed it outside!

Sarah P.

Yelp
Get the fish and crackers. Get the cherry pie. French onion and the potato soup was very watered down. French onion was more like a broth. Excellent location. Got great pictures!!

Samantha S.

Yelp
This was a little gem of a find on Washington island. All of the food was delicious. Soups, salads, sandwiches everything we had was excellent. There were 5 of us dining together we sat outside on the deck. There is plenty of seating outside with tables and benches on the deck and the grass. The restaurant is right near the water. We really enjoyed our lunch. I wish I had saved room for the pie it looked fantastic on the display. There were also some lawn games available to play and live music for entertainment. There were plenty of hand sanitizers and wipes for sanitizing surfaces available. The service was excellent and quick.

Kaylene C.

Yelp
Good, solid food. French dip and bbq sandwich both very good. Beer cheese and summer tomato soups were fine. Nice area to sit and eat after long bike ride. Following all Covid precautions. Cons: difficult to find and grumpy waitress.

Ferdinand B.

Yelp
We ate here twice during our 4 day stay in Washington Island. Great soup, sandwiches, cookies, and pies!

Geo G.

Yelp
This little hidden gem is worth the effort I can't recommend it highly enough the food was fantastic the staff is outstanding and beautiful views

John B.

Yelp
Great soup choices with the freshest ingredients. Sandwiches are made well, packed with a lot of flavor. We also highly recommend the ginger cookies on the counter by the register; the best "snap" decision! The restaurant was very overwhelmed by the amount of people that showed up on a beautiful fall day, but all of the staff did not panic and were cheerful and friendly. (We did have to wait more than 45 minutes for soup & 1/2 sandwich for two people. It would be nice to have an ice tea refill while you are waiting).

Laurie V.

Yelp
Everything is sooo yummy! Great family owned shop and we will come again and again when visiting the island.

Susan M.

Yelp
We discovered Jackson Harbor Soup a few years back - the year they opened and we've gone back as often as we get to Washington Island. You won't find a more delicious bowl of soup anywhere! All the soups are well-seasoned and feature unique flavors. Last week when we were there, we had a cup of beef barley with a half grilled cheese. The beef barley was so loaded with tender beef, fresh veggies and plump, yet chewy barley, I could have eaten another cup! The grilled cheese was good but too much bread for me (3 slices bread/2 slices cheese) but if you're a carb-lover, this grilled cheese is for you! As we were paying for lunch, we spotted a bag of clearly homemade ginger cookies. We took them with us and gobbled them down on the ferry ride back to Northport. A few managed to make it home to Chicago and they were just as good a week later! The women owners of this soup cafe clearly know what they're doing. They're not only excellent chefs/bakers, they're friendly, welcoming, and have decorated the cafe very nicely. Make the trip to Washington Island and wander over to Jackson Harbor Soup. You won't regret it and you'll enjoy one of the best light meals you've ever had in the state of Wisconsin!

Larry V.

Yelp
This little sandwich and soup shop at the northeastern tip of Washington Island is exactly what we were hoping to find. Still early in the season for Door County, but JHS is serving up delicious soups and huge, delicious sandwiches with a smile and some friendly conversation. Beautiful views of the harbor and Rock Island topped off a wonderful lunch.

Kayla J.

Yelp
Best sandwiches and soup!! Owners and staff are so friendly and the food is incredible. Definitely a great addition to Washington Island.

Cathy W.

Yelp
This is a beautiful setting, quiet, pleasant. The building is inviting and comfortable. We had a veggie wrap, very good and the Bumbleberry pie-delicious! For a place called soup, however, the mushroom and asparagus soup were extremely watered down, tasteless, and contained very little of the main ingredients. Major disappointment. Please get someone who knows soup!

Maria C.

Yelp
Good food. Great location. Cute atmosphere. I got the combo deal which is a cup of soup and a half salad or half sandwich for I think $8.50 or so. I got a cup of chili (minus the cheese and sour cream that normally comes in top of it) and a half of the roasted chicken pesto sandwich (minus the cheese), and pink lemonade. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a cuter and cleaner place nearby with these kinds of views. Service was very friendly and super fast - we got our food within probably 6 or 7 minutes of ordering. There is not a ton of seating indoors (I'd say it seats 20) but there is actually quite a bit of outdoor seating - circular tables for 4, square tables for 2, and a couple family-style benches. Not giving it 5 stars because it wasn't the best food I've ever had. I'd definitely go back if I ever came back to the island.

Steve M.

Yelp
Best lunch on this amazing island for sure no doubt. Jen is an excellent reuben I had today. BLT is recommended. Amazing view. Worth the bike ride or the drive to Jackson Harbor.

Krystal F.

Yelp
Delicious soup and grilled sandwich shop right on Jackson Harbor! Nice outdoor seating for views of the water and even better food. I tried the roasted chicken pesto sandwich...amazing! Along with their freshly baked bread and homemade soups. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Washington Island.
