Order tickets ahead and show up early! The second rodeo of the season was sold out, and latecomers had trouble finding spots on the free-seating stands. The event appears to draw a lot of locals to cheer on family and friends. Many look their best, with new hats, make-up and jewelry. Bull and horse riders are supposed to stick it out for 8 seconds, using only one hand to hold the saddle. That’s a long time given the violent jumps they have to contend with. We get whiplash just looking at the spectacle. The handlers are the most impressive of all. Two are on foot and keep the bulls under control once they’ve shaken off their load, while three horseback pros help contenders off their horses in full gallop.
