During my times that I traveled to Mississippi to do anything in the state, I've never actually flown to this airport before. Kind of crazy, but it is what it is. Heheh
On a recent trip in late April 2025, I decide to fly into Jackson Meager Evers international (regional) airport versus taking Amtrak from Memphis or New Orleans. It was practical and definitely you don't waste time trying to sit on a train or anything like that. This regional airport is fairly small with only five gates. You can get in and out within a reasonable time and on your way to wherever you need to go. Even going through security would take only 5 to 10 minutes, if you have TSA pre-check. Best bet is to come a little bit early to avoid the long lines, but since it's a small enough airport, you can get thru TSA checkpoints within 20 minutes or less. This airport was named after Meager Evers, who was an US Army veteran and the first field secretary in Mississippi for the NAACP. He was active in the struggle against racial segregation in the United States. It is a defining tribute to naming the airport for a remarkable individual who contributed so much to the advancement of American culture and society. For the most part though, my experience here was brief and swift. Very good and swift for what service this airport provides to the community of Jackson, Mississippi, the state of Mississippi, and the southeastern region of the United States of America. This small regional airport is a cool place to fly in and out of, if you have business or pleasure here. You can get in and thru TSA security within 15 minutes on a busy day, since it's a small airport. 30 minutes maximum.
The overall experience here at the Jackson Meager Evers international airport was nice and definitely an airport I would like to fly into. This airport is like any other original airport in the country and the size helps in getting through security and to your gate as quickly as possible, but it's best that travelers observed the to our prior to departure rule so that you have enough time to get through security and not be in a rush to the gate. The airport terminal is clean and very well maintained by the staff of the airport. There was only less than 10 gates fresh is actually pretty good for easy navigation. In and out. They have a large security area so both of the gate areas can merge into one common area. I think most of the regional airports are like that. My experience here at Jackson Meager Evers regional Airport was short and without fanfare. While I was there, nothing was open because I was scheduled to fly out at 5:30 in the morning and nothing was open, not even a small coffee shop at four in the morning. I just had to plan accordingly. Thankfully, everything went smoothly and out of their bound for Detroit on Delta airlines that morning. I flew in from a layover in Atlanta earlier in the trip. It is definitely a small airport so plan accordingly. If you have an early morning flight and your hotel does not serve breakfast that early either, you may wanna buy snacks the night before and use for breakfast the next morning. Over, not a bad airport because it is in central Mississippi. Recommended because at least you don't have to drive from Memphis or take a train from New Orleans to get here.
Jackson Meager Evers international Airport is Jackson, Mississippi's hometown airport. It services the Jackson area and surrounding communities. Like all airports, only take passengers are allowed inside the terminal. Unless you work at the airport or have legitimate reasons for being at the airport without a ticket, best to stay away or find all that means to get to where you going. They also have a small parking garage nearby for people who park at the airport, which is obviously paid parking. If you're like me, Uber and Lyft are your best friends. There's also a rental car counter inside the terminal as well. I didn't need that while I was traveling to and from Jackson. If it helps you, rent the car, but if you don't, then you need minimal transportation options, you can choose Uber or Lyft for your needs. I'm glad that Jackson, Mississippi has a regional airport to service the committee because a to be the one that has to drive from New Orleans or Memphis and so, if your travels come through Jackson, or passing through, consider flying into Jackson Meager Evers regional airport because it is the fastest way to do things in the 21st century. Plus, it is fun to fly when you can.
5 stars for the overall experience.
