Jacksons Retreat Alpine Holiday Park

Our favorite campsite during our south island holiday! The bathroom facilities were immaculate and modern and the kitchen/lounge was very spacious and well stocked with cooking equipment and supplies. The campgrounds themselves were also very spacious. There weren't a lot of guests around during our stay so it almost felt like we had a secluded stay in the mountains. Besides the typical amenities offered at a campsite, this one also had a couple of short nature walks right next to the sites. We did one of them and it was a luscious jungle walk to a waterfall. We came back to the same walk later that night after sunset to observe some glow worms. They were hard to see and we weren't able to find a whole lot of them. You may also see some animal friends during your stay! We saw peacocks and chickens strolling around the main building. I saw some of the bad reviews mentioning the owners, but I only quickly interacted with them during check-in and had no problems.

Beautiful site. We went there last minute to see if we could stay and they accommodated us so well. We Didnt stay on the site but it was stunning. Lots of private spaces and things to do. Would definately stay if we came back this way. We stayed in the house down near the lake with the outdoor tub. Didn’t want to leave. Peaceful and stunning views. Staff were all friendly and helpful

Really nice campsite! Great common area and multifunctional kitchen. Has got everything you need with a cosy sitting area and pleasant light (instead of bright white terrible light you find in some places) Glowworms to be seen in the evening and a very nice and friendly staff! Definitely a really nice place to stay.

Loved camping here! Such a beautiful place. Had a pretty sweet camping spot! The amenities are great too. Was so happy I could bring my dog alone. Only small thing I didn’t enjoy was the strong smell of cooking coming through the vents in the bathroom while I was taking a shower.

Absolutely amazing campsite. We had a powered site for our campervan. Facilities were brilliant....free showers, free use of cooking utensils, pans etc. Fab lounge area. Peacock and hens in the site. Little shop with fresh eggs. Very reasonable price. Hardly anyone here. Glow worms in the forest. Amazing waterfall a short walk away. Very relaxed vibe! Loved it ❤️

We had an amazing 2-night stay at Jacksons Retreat Alpine Holiday Park. The natural surroundings are absolutely stunning — waking up to mountains, trees, and birdsong made it feel so peaceful and remote, yet still comfortable. The campsite is beautifully maintained and really lets you switch off and enjoy nature. The facilities were clean, well looked after, and had everything we needed for a relaxed stay. Great amenities, friendly atmosphere, and an unreal setting — we’d 100% stay again and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a proper alpine escape.

We booked for 2 nights, we're under the impression that we would have an amazing site for our caravan, due to the photos on web, Boy we're we wrong, firstly the owner was rude because we turned up at 1.30pm thinking because its a site he doesn't need to clean it. Secondly the caravan site is a through road not a proper caravan site, could not put our awing up or anything. Facilities were good and the playground was great for our kids but thats we're it ended. The park is DEFINITELY NOT CARAVAN FRIENDLY. Photo for context.

Despite many rather unpleasant comments, we decided to spend a night at the powered site. Lady manager Stacie is a super friendly, helpful n chatty person. We really enjoyed this rather remote campsite facing mountains, surrounded by birds and occasional visits by 2 dashing about peacocks. Located next to the van sites is a little track to visit glow worms. Kitchen is spacious n well equipped. Shower is spacious, hot water strong n even provided with a fluffy floor mat. But there’s a timer for 12min after which the lights will go off unless you get to the central spot for motion sensor to reactivate another 12min. My wife n daughter were caught unaware n had to shower in darkness!

I never write reviews but am so incensed by the garbage Jacksons Retreat Alpine Holiday Park Otira Highway South Island sells at top $ I just had to... After a day's riding all you ask is for a nice, clean place to lay your head so you can wake refreshed and ready for the following ride. A crappy, sloping tent site for $48 is bad enough, more than any other far superior sites on the South Island but ... wait for it ... Four grown men booked a pre erected tent fully expecting a 4 man tent preferably in the style of the canvas tents available. Just look at the photo to see what they provided - if it wasn't serious it would be hilarious! (actually it is quite funny because I didnt sleep there ) A $120 warehouse tent stuffed in the corner of a hay shed on the dirt!!! The boys didnt even use it and ended up sleeping on their mattresses in the dust. This is their reply: Dear Karen. Ive never treated guest disgustingly. This was the first stop on our trip and from the moment we turned off the main road we knew we had made a great choice. The grounds were beautiful and the couple running the place were extremely friendly and helpful and even gave us recommendations for the next day of our trip. The bathrooms and facilities were pristine and made us feel at home. We took a short hike to see the nearby waterfall and at night ventured out to see the glow-worm dells which were fascinating! 10/10 do recommend for anyone making a trip through Arthur's Pass!
