We visited Jackson’s Retreat Alpine Holiday Park in April as a family and it was truly one of the highlights of our New Zealand trip. Nestled in the mountains, the location is absolutely breathtaking – peaceful, clean, and surrounded by nature in every direction.||The facilities were top-notch. The bathrooms were warm, modern, and spotless (a big deal when traveling with kids!). We especially appreciated the thoughtful touches like heated floors and private showers. The communal kitchen was well-equipped and had a cozy, welcoming feel – we cooked dinner there one rainy evening and it felt like home.||The unique stargazing domes and camping spots are incredible. We stayed in a family cabin which was warm and comfortable even during the cooler April evenings. Our children loved exploring the surrounding bush tracks and feeding the animals. It felt safe, quiet, and truly in touch with nature.||The owners were absolutely lovely – welcoming, helpful, and clearly passionate about offering a great experience to travelers. We were given tips for local walks and hidden waterfalls we wouldn’t have found otherwise.||If you're a family looking for a clean, scenic, and peaceful stop on the West Coast, don’t miss this place. It’s more than just a campground – it’s an experience.||We’ll definitely be back.

I stayed at Jackson's Retreat for 3 nights, and it was honestly one of the highlights of my South Island trip. The location is stunning – surrounded by lush forest, mountains, and the peaceful sound of nature 24/7. You feel completely off-grid, but everything is thoughtfully set up for comfort.||We stayed in one of the self-contained units, and it was super clean, cozy, and had everything we needed. The common kitchen and lounge areas are spotless and have a warm, welcoming vibe – perfect for meeting other travelers or just relaxing after a hike.||The glow-worm trail on the property is something special – way better than what we saw on the commercial tours. Just grab a flashlight and walk a few minutes at night. Magical.||Staff were friendly and helpful, giving us tips on local walks and places to stop next. You can tell they actually care about the guest experience.||Highly recommend this place if you're traveling by car or campervan and want a peaceful, authentic stay in nature without sacrificing comfort. Will definitely come back.

Everything about Jackson’s Retreat was pure comfort and serenity. The bed was incredibly cozy with fluffy pillows, making it easy to relax after a day exploring. The peaceful setting surrounded by mountains was breathtaking! We loved the on-site waterfall walks — absolutely magical and right at our doorstep. The fresh mountain water tasted amazing, and the bonus surprise was discovering glow worms on site at night — such a magical experience! This place is a true alpine escape, and the views are something you’ll never forget. Highly recommend to anyone looking to unwind in nature’s paradise.

I would 100% recommend this holiday park for anyone, family or not, looking for a get away or a good experience in nature. ||Came to stay a couple nights with my friends in our mobile home. The site itself is very well presented, the facilities they offered were cozy and clean, and most importantly for us the location was stunning, you get 360 views of the alpine mountain ranges.||In terms of service, we were met by a lovely woman named Stacey, she was very informative and seemed very passionate about her job. Overall she made us feel at home.||As for activities, we checked out the glow worms, they were an incredible sight to see, almost like looking up at stars in the sky and to our surprise they were actually very close to where we parked. Then we did the waterfall track, the track itself was well maintained, the waterfall was also very good, definitely a worth having a look at. It took us 40 minutes return.||Overall this is a holiday park you can’t miss out on and we will definitely be making our return sometime soon.

When we arrived at the retreat, the skies were clear and they views were just fantastic!!! We checked in to a Flash new Deluxe cabin with a hot tub. After we got changed we decided to go up the waterfall track which took us about 2 0 minutes up and the waterfall was beautiful!!! Also we checked out the glowworms at nite and were soaking in the hot tub which was pretty cool and watched the stars.

I stayed here in April 2024 and again in April 2025. The new owners have done an amazing job with upgrading the retreat in less than a year. New services, new cabins, larger campsites, and clean, well-kept bathroom facilities. The lounge/dining area is warm and cozy with a lit fireplace, and the kitchen includes all utensils and cutlery. The main glowworm location is absolutely stunning and worth seeing. Large playground for kids to play. The only negative is a lack of native wildlife due to roaming cats. Other than that, it's an amazing place. I personally will continue to visit every year.

Campground is quite new and very well thought out. Kitchen/dinning area is very well equiped and spotless, the bathrooms are super nice and clean too. Glow worms were really cool! Also found a native weta and a flock of peacocks walked past our tent, looked like it had a good playground for kids. No sign of the angry people mentioned in some earlier reviews, Craig was on reception when I checked in and he was good to deal with. Thanks for having us!

Yelp
I never write reviews but am so incensed by the garbage Jacksons Retreat Alpine Holiday Park Otira Highway South Island sells at top $ I just had to... After a day's riding all you ask is for a nice, clean place to lay your head so you can wake refreshed and ready for the following ride. A crappy, sloping tent site for $48 is bad enough, more than any other far superior sites on the South Island but ... wait for it ... Four grown men booked a pre erected tent fully expecting a 4 man tent preferably in the style of the canvas tents available. Just look at the photo to see what they provided - if it wasn't serious it would be hilarious! (actually it is quite funny because I didnt sleep there ) A $120 warehouse tent stuffed in the corner of a hay shed on the dirt!!! The boys didnt even use it and ended up sleeping on their mattresses in the dust. This is their reply: Dear Karen. Ive never treated guest disgustingly. Just dont come back thats fine theres plenty of people who love our retreat. Have a nice day :-) Management Team Jacksons Retreat Alpine Holiday Park

Yelp
This was the first stop on our trip and from the moment we turned off the main road we knew we had made a great choice. The grounds were beautiful and the couple running the place were extremely friendly and helpful and even gave us recommendations for the next day of our trip. The bathrooms and facilities were pristine and made us feel at home. We took a short hike to see the nearby waterfall and at night ventured out to see the glow-worm dells which were fascinating! 10/10 do recommend for anyone making a trip through Arthur's Pass!
