The best part of Jaipur Inn is Pushpendra Bhargav, the owner and father of the current manager. Pushpendra ji is an indefatigable walker and font of historical knowledge, and he puts both skills to impressive use by leading small parties on early morning walks through parts of Jaipur off the beaten tourist track. My wife and I, over a span of more than two decades, have taken many walks with Pushpendra ji — to the hilltop Nahargarh Fort (best early morning views of the city), the old city havelis (featuring some of the finest painted darwazas and inner sanctum courtyards), and — just this morning — the Galta Ji Temple Complex (a cluster of mandirs housed in mixed Rajput-Mughlai buildings with jharokas and chhatris, in the most beautiful mountain valley setting). Pushpendra ji is a kind host, possessed of deep curiosity — he is a Baoli Bhakt who can tell you all about the scores of ancient step wells he has discovered in the city and its environs — has a wonderful sense of humour and is excellent company. In sum, he is one of the jewels of Jaipur. Do yourself a favour: stay at the Inn and book yourself an early morning walk with Pushpendra ji!
