"For years, Húsavík was a low-key fishing village known for whale watching in Iceland’s Diamond Circle. Now, thanks to Will Ferrell and an Oscar-nominated power ballad, the tiny Nordic town has garnered international acclaim. At this beloved local bar, you can discover the whole fascinating story from proud Húsavík residents. Netflix’s 2020 musical comedy Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga warmed hearts with the fictional story of a Húsavík pop duo Fire Saga’s (Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams) journey to the Eurovision Song Contest (a very real TV competition). The movie delighted former Húsavík council president Orly Orlyson so much that he spearheaded a viral Oscar campaign for its soundtrack and opened a Fire Saga-themed bar and Eurovision exhibition. Named after Fire Saga’s feel-good anthem, JaJa Ding Dong is a cozy pub not unlike the Húsavík bar the film depicts. A well-made cocktail menu inspired by the film fuels singalongs and tipsy tours around a small gallery of sequined costumes and flashy props. Tours are sometimes led by Orlyson who is also a local celeb, having founded Húsavík’s Exploration Museum and personally led astronaut expeditions across Icelandic volcanic fields. Don’t be surprised if you find him on a bar stool entertaining hosting explorers or Hollywood stars (they often stay at his family’s adjoining hotel) or even personally leading a round of JaJa Ding Dong. The song is, after all, requested by patrons as many as 30 times a day. Know Before You Go Honor Icelandic superstition and leave a little souvenir (like whiskey or biscuits) for Húsavík’s elves like Rachel McAdams does in the movie. Several tiny fairytale houses can be found outside the bar." - barbarawoolsey

Although the bar and exhibition are usually closed out of season (I visited in November), there was a note on the door with a phone number to call. The owner answered, he said he just needed to pick his kids up from school but would open up just for me in 15 minutes! He's a lovely chap, with genuine enthusiasm for Eurovision and the Fire Saga/Husavik story and lots of great anecdotes. Definitely worth a visit!

My partner and I had an incredible time at the Jaja Dingdong bar and Eurovision Exhibit! The interactive part of the exhibit involving a blue screen was super fun, and we loved learning about historical moments in Eurovision’s history too. We loved the Eurovision movie with Will Ferrell and seeing all the props from the set was unreal, and we kept laughing at all of the photos and reliving all of the funny moments from the film with some great photo ops as well. But despite how fun the museum and bar were themselves, our most favorite part of the visit was meeting and talking with the owner, Orly. It was so incredible to hear about his personal stories about what the movie’s popularity has done for Husavik, the journey of getting the Husavik song played at the Oscars, and other personal stories, as well as sharing lots of laughs. Visiting beautiful Husavik was a huge highlight for our entire trip to Iceland, and we can’t recommend enough getting the chance to visit the Jaja Ding Dong bar and Eurovision exhibition while you can, and to get the chance to talk to Orly himself about his amazing town! We can’t wait to return to Husavik again some day knowing we will have another wonderful experience—hopefully soon!

We really enjoyed our visit to Jaja Ding Dong. The atmosphere of the place was so fun - especially as fans of the film. The focaccia was good, though small portion, and the cocktails looked really fun, but were really expensive so we opted not to try one. We definitely enjoyed our visit. At lunch time it was nice and quite, which we enjoyed. Not sure what the vibe is like later in the day.

We did enjoy our time here. The view is nice, you can see the bay, and we had the chance to try the Smoked Arctic Salmon Bagel which was very nice. The staff was friendly and made our experience even better.

I went there for lunch with my son and girlfriend while traveling the ring road around 🇮🇸. We sat on the porch. The view of the bay and mountains was extraordinary. We had the bagel smoked salmon and cream cheese with the fermented shark and a shot as a side. Everything was top notch. The draft beer was so good we had 2. Our host from Spain really hustled and was charming.

Such a fun spot with great views of the town. Very laid back vibe with a simple but wonderful menu. The chef is Italian and makes amazing food - highly recommended. We tried everything on the menu and the focaccia is our favourite. If you are a fan of Eurovision you will love this place as it’s full of memorabilia. The kids loved the elf houses from the movie that are conveniently located outside.
