Jak Water Sports Bioluminescent Bay Tour & Rental

The customer service was amazing. I broke my sandals on the beach and saw they had swimming shoes as well. Angie was so nice. She grabbed a chair for me to try in different styles . I grabbed a nice pair for a decent price. They also have coffee and ice cream. I bought an iced latte and had a great chat with people in the store. This place is a MUST VISIT when you go to Vieques. God, willing, I'll be back!

Just WOW! From the moment you step in to register, every single team member is professional and helpful. They take care of you just like your family. The educational presentation about the bay before you load the bus tunes you in to the uniqueness of the Biobay. The bus driver is skillful and entertaining too, as the dirt road becomes part of the adventure. The team at the shoreline ensures everyone loads safely and begins an experience words or pictures cannot possibly describe. Many thanks to our guide who gave us not only an understanding of how unique the bay is, with its unique marine biology, but a historical perspective and an appreciation of what it means to be a steward of a natural wonder. I will treasure our trip for the rest of my life.

Our family took a bioluminescent tour and had an amazing experience. Our guide was friendly, educational and fun. The clear-bottomed kayak added to the experience as we were able to see the glow beneath our boat as we kayaked. Compared to other tours, this was well organized, safe, and we learned many interesting details about the ecosystem for this wondrous sight.

My friend and I had a wonderful experience with Jak for a biobay tour. They were friendly, informative, and fun. The people we met worked as a team and seemed to enjoy what they do. Most impressively, they wrangled a group of strangers in the dark onto kayaks and around the bay and back successfully and with good humor. They encouraged respect for the natural environment that provides such beauty. I would easily recommend.

This was our second bioluminescence tour with Jak Water Sports, and it did not disappoint. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and dedicated to ensuring we experienced the mesmerizing blue glow of the water while paddling our kayak. Perfect for adventurers aged 13 to 74, it's an unforgettable experience for all.

Something that no picture or videos can properly capture and no words can truly describe. Just gotta experience it in person! And Jak is highly recommended. David was an amazing guide and the ladies helping the front desk were so nice. Make sure to try their coffee as well! Very happy I booked my tour here.

I would not recommend doing this tour if you’re travelling solo. I accidentally set off my camera flash at the start and from that point on whenever I did anything (like floating 5-10m away from the group so I could actually see the bioluminescence we all came to see) the guide would single me out and make fun of me until the group laughed at me. If someone is unwittingly breaking the rules you should just tell them, not mock them, especially if they’re alone and vulnerable. It wasn’t just me he did this to. I’m sure there’s people who appreciate a more regimented tour where you have to stay pressed up against each other, but equally there are people who don’t like this, and those people should try somewhere a bit more chilled out. Repeating: I was very much not wandering around by myself and was very much still with the group, as illustrated by the fact the guide could pick out easily who and where I was even in the dark. The kayaks are of the type suitable for beginners in that only the bottoms are clear, but other companies have fully clear (not as stable) kayaks which are really worth the upgrade to view the bioluminescence properly. The group was 16 people where some other companies are limited to 10. I’m not sure why the woman in the shop asked me afterwards if I enjoyed the tour when really she meant only tell me if you liked the tour, everything else is incorrect, and what you experienced is not what happened. When I used the example of me being castigated for the accidental photo flash she also told me that night photos don’t work like that (duh) and the organisms are sensitive and I shouldn’t have done it. I really hope next time she does anything accidentally someone tells her it’s better if we choose not to have accidents, she made everything ten times worse. Went home feeling crushed and like I was wrong for coming by myself. Cancelled my tour the next night and rebooked with Aqua Sunset (20 people, clear kayaks, friendly non-performative staff, shorter and more relevant in-water lecture) and had a great time. Now reading the replies to other negative reviews they never accept any possibility the company could be lacking in any way, which indicates no possibility of improvement, and should have been a red flag right from the start.

We went for a kayak tour in Mosquito Bay and loved it! Our guide was excellent and did a great job making sure everyone in the group stayed together. Our group also didn't seem too big, at least compared to some of the other groups out there. The tour was also very informative, which I want expecting. We learned a lot about the bioluminescence and what caused it, and our guide also did a fun little astronomy lesson and pointed out planets and constellations. Great experience!
