Date night with the wife. Amazing service and great atmosphere. Swedish meatball special on point! So delicious. Wife got the salmon with herb and mashed potatoes. Again on point delicious. Great beer on tap. So good and what a amazing dinner!!

Aye at the bar two nights this week at the recommendation of the rental car guy. First night was late so I got the tenderloin app, very nice, with an ipa and 2nd night the ribeye with spicy pancake and the awesome butter cake dessert. Should of just ordered the butter cake, it was huge and tasted really good - home made! Liked the atmosphere and the bar tenders were really attentive and friendly.

My wife and I were visiting Billings for the weekend and decided to try Jake’s downtown. We were glad we did as the established in 1979 Classic dining experience was a treat from start to finish. We started with the mussels and the crab dip. The mussels and garlic noodles were our favorite item of the night. Our debate over, whether we were eating the bison medallions that we ordered or elk medallions..ended up, yielding us a free slice of strawberry cheesecake from our server who was great. All in all our time at Jake’s was quite memorable. My whiskey drink garnished in huckleberries was a real delight

The food and atmosphere were great. I had the medallions and they were perfect. I am visiting from South Carolina and definitely will come back!

Travel this nation , Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, Europe. Really hard critic. Jake's Downtown was Superior to anywhere we eaten in years. Waitress was excellent & experience. Maria went out of her way to make sure my drink Colorado Bulldog was perfect. Bartender make 1 want know what can I do to make it better...2nd was even better but the 3rd was the Best I'd had since 1987. Food was excellent quality. Shrimp 🍤 were Big, cooked to perfection. My ribeye steak aged, crusted still medium rare, hot/juicy. Califlower was fresh. Hot fresh bread with whipped butter. Prices are reasonable considering it's Montana's Best!

Zack was amazing. The check in hostesses were nice also. We had a great time on our anniversary vaca and the food was amazing! The steak was perfect !

Connor did a phenomenal job as our server this weekend! The drinks were great, the food was wonderful, and when I had an overcooked steak they made sure to get that rectified and replaced of right away with no question. Emily, the manager, checked in on us to make sure we were enjoying the experience once the food was replaced to follow up with us and ensure we were having a good experience. You can tell management takes care of both their employees and customers which created a very positive atmosphere. Everyone we met seemed happy to be there, both guests and workers. Highly recommended for a high dining family dinner or date night!

The salmon was perfectly done, with just the right amount of seasoning. The atmosphere is Montana warm ☺️ Pete is exceptional! He may not know it, but he's been with us when our family was a crowd, in happy times, and sad times, and when there were just a few of us. Everyone should have the Pete experience. We were surprised with a complimentary large piece of delicious cheesecake for our birthday outing. Thank you!

Just missed lunch service in the Dining room, so I sat in the bar area. My server J.J. was great! Very friendly! Shrimp wontons were outstanding. My fillet was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth! I'll be back!!!

Came here to have a good steak and we were not disappointed. We were recommended to come from a few people and also a coworker. We came right from work so we were in scrubs and felt a little under dressed. It was nicer than we thought it was going to be. Would be a great place to take a date or a special dinner (birthday/anniversary). Our waitress was very nice but you could tell it had been a long day. Coworkers food came out tighter and mine took about 15 mins longer. I think they forgot about me. Mine should have taken the least as it was the special for the day and also I got mine cooked medium rare. I ordered the bacon wrapped filet with chimichurri and garlic mashed potatoes. It was like cutting through butter, so tender. I was able to cut it with a butter knife the next day for left overs. One coworker also got the filet with a sweet potato cake (thing). Hers came out just a little overcooked. She did ask for it medium rare and it came out a little more on the medium well side. There was not much pink in hers, but she said it still tasted really good. All the steaks were perfectly seasoned and not overwhelming. my other coworker got the tacos. She ate all three of them and said they were great.

Wife and I popped in for dinner last night based on a local's recommendation. Ate at the bar as it was a bit of a wait to get a table. I had the ribeye and wife had the New York. Food was excellent, service was great, drinks were great. If i lived in Billings this would be a regular date night for the wife and I.

Yum so good. I had their prime rib and it was so moist and delicious. The Ajou was very well seasoned. Elk and bison medallions were also great I think I liked the bison best. Mashed potatoes were out of this world yum. One of my favorite meals I had while traveling.

Reliable and storied downtown Billings eatery. Great steaks, solid cocktails and obliging staff. Overflow to back room saloon on crowded nights, enjoy the comfortable main dining room or survey the busy streets from the front bar. Never a disappointment!

Weak, weak excuse for a steakhouse. First of all, the woman at the table next to ours took her shoes off and was eating barefoot. That tells you the level of pride Jack's takes in its dining room. Secondly, the service is quite poor compared to other more upscale establishments. Long delays. Inattentive. Jack's is barely a step above a Texas Roadhouse. We had a part of five and were crammed into a small table. They were out of two types of wines and one brand of bourbon. The food is mediocre at best. It's the kind of place you just want to pay your check and get out of. Very disappointing.

Do yourself a favor- Go to Jake's: great atmosphere, good prices, great service, and wonderful food- had the Elk and a salad- both were great!

LOVE LOVE LOVE! This place was highly recommended by multiple people, and it did not disappoint. The server was so friendly and did their job very well. The mashed potatoes are to die for! The steak and elk were cooked exactly as we asked! Although they are constantly busy, the food came out in a timely manner and all our needs were tended to quickly. We stopped by the restaurant at 4pm and asked for a reservation for around 6pm--they were able to get us in on a busy Friday night!

Jake's was the first place I stopped in Billings, Montana and I was very lucky to have found it by chance. To start off, the restaurant is like stepping back in time. The architecture and decor is very classy and antique. It feels very calm, and has great taste in music. The restrooms were exceptionally clean, although be warned, the ones I went to were not handicap accessible. (although they may have others) The food was amazing and well portioned, I highly recommend their coconut shrimp as it has exceptional taste and a good crisp texture. They don't traditionally have sweet tea, but the staff was nice enough to bring some simple syrup out with the unsweetened tea and it made for a good southern style tea! They were very helpful with that. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, and carried on lighthearted conversation which both educated us and gave us advice for the rest of our road-trip. She was even nice enough to give us a few suggestions on what to visit and wrote it on our receipt without us having to ask. Absolutely amazing service! All in all, it's a definite top-pick in restaurants!

I have only had the crab dip and it is delicious. I have been here several times and I keep trying to order something new but just can't do it. It's sooooo good. Happy hour is ok and staff has always been super friendly. One day I may try something new ha! Chill experience beautiful bar.

The food was delicious. The experience was flawless. This is fine dining without the feeling that you're talking too loud. I loved every minute of my anniversary celebration here. They went the extra mile to make it special with a complimentary glass of champagne and a congratulations with dessert. Appreciated the Bourdain quote about keeping good company for great meals on a nearby chalkboard. You know you're in good hands when they turn to Bourdain. Best Billings experience so far!

Delicious! Filet mignon with garlic mash and a glass of Merlot and I was in heaven. The steak was soooo tender and flavorful and literally one of the best steaks I've ever had. We also enjoyed some interesting cocktails and I recommend the Limoncello Mule. Add in a salad and I was way too stuffed for dessert! Service was good, thanks, Maria.

I took 8 people here for lunch while in town for business. Surprisingly, we had to wait 10 minutes for a table at lunch hour. A bit ridiculous...... I ordered the Cowboy burger medium well. House made MT Bourbon glaze, bacon, pepper jack cheese, and crowned with a steakhouse onion ring. Served with mayo, lettuce, tomato and pickles). It came out quite well done. How do you screw up a bloody burger in an expensive restaurant ($18 burger better be PERFECT)? It's always a zoo here around dinner hour, so I never bother to stop in when in town. This place is overrated.

Service was good, the bar was good, however, the meat was horrible. We ordered 2 bacon wrapped fillets, and they were so salty we could not eat them. I am very disappointed for the price. My dog was happy!

An important note I thought about after posting: the women's bathroom is down a flight of stairs that could be slick for some. Whew, as I write this I'm as full as a tick and twice as happy. This was The Meal of the honeymoon. Sadly, the servers name escapes me. She is highlighted blonde wearing bronze dangle earrings, recently married. She was available without being intrusive and professionally invested in her tables. Hope she makes all the cash tips. Husband and I had the prime rib, bestie had the shrimp tacos. Please love yourself and get the shrimp wontons: they are everything you want crab ragoon to be. Trust me. Mix the mustard and the sweet/sour sauce together...you're welcome. Great prime rib, soaked mine in the French onion soup as it was a fuller broth than the jus. Just a terrific meal. May go tomorrow for a repeat. Not one to miss folks.

I forgot to review this restaurant last time I was here, so as you can see I went back and again, did not disappoint. First, let's say that this restaurant is downtown Billings pretty close to most of the major hotels. It's right on the corner easy to find with beautiful outside decor with some neon kind of an old school look and when you go inside it's a very rustic, traditional, classy establishment. But yet you can still wear shorts and a T-shirt in there. Will start the service from the get-go was outstanding once we were seated Erin, our server came over to see if we needed any drinks to start. The whole time she was just outstanding I would give her a 10 out of 10 for her service. My wife chose the top line which is a very thick cut and the baked potato combo. I chose my favorite that I had last time I was here, Bison Medallions. These have got to be some of the most tasty type of steak I've ever had, last time I was here I asked what did they recommend and the server recommended these. So I had to order them again and they were fantastic perfectly cooked to a medium rare, and I chose the mashed potatoes as the centerpiece of the plate. It's also served with a salad Bread or choice of soup instead of salad we enjoyed the Caesar salad, which was very light Caesar one of the best Caesars. My wife says she has tasted. Good size salad, croutons, or perfectly crunchy and big chunks of Parmesan cheese. I would recommend this place to anybody and whenever I'm up in Billings Montana this will be my steakhouse.

The service was great. Our waitress was very attentive and had great recommendations. The food was amazing. My steak was cooked perfectly and the baked potato was simple but done well.

Food is awesome. Close to where I stay. Just walking distance. Looks like it is always busy but open till late and I enjoy their steaks

Nice atmosphere, and great waiter. Three of us ate there together on a business trip. All three of us ate the same selection: Elk Medallions over Garlic Mashed Potatoes, with a side salad. The food tasted great. No complaints about anything... well, until 2:30am that night. I woke at 2:30am and felt like I needed to vomit. My stomach hurt, and I raced to my bathroom to sit on the floor. The vomit never came, but it sure felt like it was going to. The next morning, I asked the other two guys if they slept good. Both shook their heads. One said he woke up sometime around 2am and felt like he needed to vomit. The other said he woke up around 2am and had a bad stomach ache. I guess it's possible that it wasn't from the restaurant, but I suspect all three of us got a case of food poisoning. Hence, three stars instead of 5.

Fantastic meal in a very traditional steakhouse venue. Service was very good and our meals were exceptional. I would drive 300 miles to eat here again!

The onion soup was to die for. The flavors were diverse yet blended like a symphony. The staff was extremely attentive.

Always busy when I come in town but lacking from the kitchen on the steaks. This time I ordered steak Oscar special. It came out before I was even half done with my soup. I asked for it to be kept warm. When brought back out it was cold and hand mushrooms that I specifically requested to be left off. The steak was tough and gristly. What happened to timing the service. I was by myself on business so no conversation and they still brought it out like a cheeseburger fast food place. Meanwhile the guy sitting at the bar next to me had to ask where his food was and when his filet arrived it was overcooked. They did offer to cook another one but he was in a time crunch. Good old fashion service would make a big difference to average steaks.

My wife and I were traveling through Billings and dined at Jake's Downtown for our 59 th wedding anniversary. Great restaurant and so pleased Jake's was recommended by a family member. Wonderful food and ambiance topped off by excellent service from Pete. Highly recommend Jakes Downtown.

Had a good burger, exactly what I was looking for, quick and easy. Also had a few of the Check pilsners and they were very good. I would recommend for a casual simple beer and burger.

Hubby and I had noticed this restaurant several times on our recent stays in Billings. I, however, always persuaded our dining choices elsewhere due to how elegant the dining room appeared. It just felt way out of my comfort zone. Today I bit my tongue, and agreed to go because the menu looked fantastic. We walked in and we were greeted by the friendliest hostess who advised us that the dining room wasn't open yet, but the saloon was, and served the SAME MENU as the dining room! Frick'n YAY for me!!!! That's what I'm talking about!! Seating in the Saloon included about 8 to ten smaller tables and ample bar seating. The bar tender was friendly, prompt and attentive the entire time. The atmosphere was very nice without feeling too stuffy. Our meal was good. Some items were great, while others were just good. All in all we were happy with our Jakes experience. I will review our meal in detail further. ($140 w/tip for 2 - included 4 cocktails, appetizer, 2 meals, and a soup.) Bourbon Street Muscles - Fantastic! A lot of muscles served on a bed of pasta, sauced flavorfully and very well cooked. Beartooth Burger - Very good burger! **Be Advised** My husband ordered medium rare and it came out more on the rare side. That was fine by him, but if you're particular about very pink beef, best to order more well done than you'd do normally. Jakes Chicken Oscar - AMAZING!!! Hand breaded fried chicken breast. Super juicy and tender with a perfectly crispy coating. Bechamel was the perfect consistency with large quarters of artichoke hearts. ( They were jarred marinated artichokes but, that's great I love them!) Finally topped with SO MUCH lump crab. Again AMAZING!!! Our only slight disappointment was the seasonal vegetable side. We both chose this option which, on this day, was sauteed brussel sprouts, mushrooms, onions, and bacon pieces. They were just OK. The Brussels weren't as tender as we were expecting and definitely needed salt and pepper. French onion soup was great! Not overly salty like some. All in all we would return again.

Food was great. Had the osso bucco was very tasty. Perfect flavor. Service is always on point! Sat in the lounge instead of the dining room. Was a little loud but what do you expect when people are having fun. Great place to have supper and a few drinks.

This was a five star experience. The building itself is upscale and impeccably clean. The tin ceilings and wood accents are luxe. A comfortable dining area is separate from the bar. I also noticed a private dining room in use. The menu appears to be typical American fare but is truly executed with class! I regret that I did not take a picture of the best Crème Brûlée I've ever had. But we were all so impressed with every bit of our experience here. I look forward to trying the Mussels next time we're in town. *I will also add that I brought two small children, (to lunch on a weekday) and although the bathrooms had no changing tables- the staff were more than accommodating to children.

Dinner last night started with a yummy cocktail? With a jalapeño slice, very good. Then we moved to the mussel appetizer which was mussels served on a bed of pasta with a cream sauce. It was a meal in itself!! Might be one of my favs. Soup and salad, the soup was the absolute best clam chowder I have ever had and I have lived in New England!Then steak Oscar and pan fried shrimp. I adore the pan fried shrimp, it never disappoints the steak was melt in your mouth but the Oscar part of it was confusing, not enough bernaise sauce or to many mushrooms? Not sure, it was very good, but the Oscar part could have been better. Our server was relaxed efficient and fun.the dining room was comfortable in the old school restaurant flair that I love. A great dining experience, go if you have the chance!

Excellent food. The Burgers were great but the Wings are one of the best ever tested.

Food was excellent. I had the crusted ribeye which was to die for. My daughter and son in law both had the prime rib also excellent. The only thing that stops this from a 5 star is that the service was a little pushy even though the place was half full at the time. Not worth mentioning some of the service faults but the worst was dropping the main dish practically on the salad plate. The food is still worth going back for and hope you get a better server.

Nice atmosphere, but the steak was about as tender as a used tire. The only time I remember having a steak that bad was at a Waffle House. I attempted to eat several bites but didn't feel like breaking my jaw so had to spit them into the napkin. I expressed to not one but two servers how tough it was and the only offer was to cook it more. I had ordered it blue and it was already this side of medium. That was truly a waste of time, money, effort, etc. If you absolutely love steak, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Everyone told my husband and I the downtown spot was better. He and I LOVED everything about the west end location. So we figured we would enjoy the downtown. Nope. Drinks were blah, food was not good at all. What I got was dry. The appetizer wasn't good at all. So we left disappointed and not thrilled we spent good money for a negative experience. Save yourself and go to the west end location. Im drooling thinking of the west ends Ahi App, and the halibut with crab and mushroom goodness on top. Omg. Don't bother with downtown.

2nd time here for date night, both times were great! Very good steaks and great wine/beer selection. I got the rib eye and my husband got the baseball sirloin, both were cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Didn't even get pictures of the food in time! Our server Maddi was excellent...she checked in on us at the perfect times, made sure we had everything we needed, and was sweet and friendly. She deserves a raise!!

Excellent service, bar & food! Ate there twice while in Billings. The shrimp wontons delicious / hand made & on point. The pork shank with garlic mashed potatoes is legit - the elk medallions with blackberries was also very good. It's a repeat visit any time we are in Billings!

Wonderful food in a very beautiful restaurant. Be sure to get reservations due to there being a limited amount of walk in seating. Staff was very friendly and speedy with all aspects of their service.

We have been here twice, and the food was amazing both times. I would love to post pictures, but we jumped in so fast! The wings were great, flavor and crispiness! I had the filet mignon this last time, and my husband and I shared a fabulous steak from a local ranch. The first both were so tasty and perfectly cooked. Sean at the bar is super attentive, and the pumpkin cheesecake was delicious!

Baseball sirloin medium rare was a home run. Clam chowder excellent. Waiter was outstanding. Restaurant is 5 star. Dining experience was second to none. Ambiance perfect.

Right across from my hotel. Crowded when I walked in. The bar was full, but a small table opened up as I walked in. As I was waiting for the table to be cleared the manager walked by and asked how everything was and if I needed anything. Waitress was friendly and checked on me several times throughout my meal. I think this is a solid downtown restaurant that is a good choice for locals or out of towners.

Not unless you are just looking to empty your wallet. This place is expensive! I have had excellent steaks here. I have excellent steaks in my backyard. I have had excellent steaks at various mom and pop cafe's across this country. I don't think that a high quality steak needs to be accompanied by a high price tag. Service was acceptable. Noisy was the ambiance. It's a bar. So, in closing, not a place for most people.

Phenomenal steakhouse in downtown Billings! The steaks both ribeyes, filets and meal lions were cooked to perfection. A must for the appetizer was the Lincoln Logs ribs, smoked, fall off the bone and in a perfect glazed bourbon sauce.

The food was outstanding. Our server in the hand was very forgetful. He asked if we wanted bread the. Forgot to bring it. They ran out of baked potatoes and it would be 45 mins for one and we stated that we would wait for it since before tell us they were out of baked potatoes he told us the kitchen was running behind and our meal would be delayed. It was my birthday and he offered to bring me a piece of cheesecake but he also forgot that. All in all I would go back but would request a new server if we were ever to be sat in his section again.

Had dinner at Jake's, wife and I had a great time. Staff was great and food was great also. Plan on doing once a month Donner with my wife at this place.

Food was okay. I ordered ribs and they weren't the most tender ribs. Mashed potato was okay. I order soup to start but it was too thick to be soup, it was more like a mashed potato. My drink was awesome recommended by my server who was really sweet. Service was very good, every server would check on me. Ambiance was super warm, candles and deem lights. Would give it another chance and try the steak !

Great place to eat and watch the game. Friendly staff and excellent service. Will be back next time in town.

This is my go to place when traveling to Billings. Great service, fun vibe and the food is good. My favorites are the Montana steak salad and the elk tenderloin.

The food and service here were outstanding! They give you enough time between servings to enjoy your food and company. The atmosphere is classic steakhouse. If I ever come back this way again I would definitely dine here again! I can't recommend this place highly enough.

If I could give 10 stars, I would. We had a reservation but got there early so we sat at a table in the bar- what a fabulous idea. Emily was our server and she was so attentive and communicative. 2 of us had the prime rib which was perfect. Hubby (who is a super steak snob) had the char crusted ribeye and loved it. The cocktails were perfect. Come here and have it all!
