Google
Booked a ride for 7 with Jake’s Horses and was such an amazing experience! Ally and Tayler were so great, things were behind schedule but that’s a given with horses and allowed us more time to soak in the views and hangout with our awesome rides. They answered all our questions and booking was so easy by calling. We were so happy with our ride, guides were so knowledgeable and extremely friendly. It rained majority of our ride and Ally checked with us multiple times about continuing. Truly the best experience we had in big sky and would recommend Jake’s Horses to everyone! I’d ignore the negative reviews, this is clearly a family owned company and communication can be hard and understanding you are dealing with animals grace should absolutely be given.

Google
We had an incredible experience with Jake’s Horses in Big Sky, Montana, and a huge part of that was thanks to our amazing guide, Brianna! We did the 3-hour ride and it was the perfect balance of adventure, breathtaking scenery, and peaceful moments in nature. Brianna, a 6th-generation Montanan, was friendly, knowledgeable, and made us feel comfortable from the very beginning. She took the time to match us with the perfect horses — Anthem and Lydia — who were both fantastic and easy to ride. You could tell they were well cared for and knew the trail like pros. The views along the ride were absolutely stunning — from lush forest paths to wide open vistas of the Montana wilderness. Brianna shared fascinating stories and insights about the land, adding a personal touch that made the experience even more special. If you're visiting Big Sky and looking for a memorable horseback adventure, we can't recommend this place enough. And if you’re lucky enough to get Brianna as your guide, you’re in for a truly unforgettable ride!

Google
Incredible ride. Great guides with wheat fields and mountain trail. I've been on many trail rides and this is by far the best!! Don't miss out? I'm from Florida and had a great time.

Google
Wonderful experience! We did the 2 hour ride and the scenery was amazing. Amelia was our guide and she was fantastic! I rode Trio and he was the best big boy. I told them I was taking him back to Kentucky with me. Highly recommend!

Google
Amazing time on our 3 hour trail ride! Aaron was an excellent guide! My 2 kids (12 and 14) had only ridden once before and had an incredible experience. Will definitely be back!

Google
We had a great time at Jake’s Horses. Super easy to book with the team and very quick at giving you a call back. We did the 2 hour ride and had a beautiful ride along the river. Our guide was friendly and made sure we were all comfortable. Perfect for all ages!

Taylor K.

Google
My bachelorette party of 12 just got SPOILED with the sweetest horses and even more amazing guides. Thank you to Rosie and Aaron for making our day so perfect! This is a must-do adventure through the gorgeous Montana landscape!

Michelle K.

Google
Wonderful experience! Highly recommend. Gorgeous well behaved horses. We did the 2 hour trail ride. Our wrangler, Amelia, was fantastic. One of the best things to do in Big Sky!

Heidi G.

Yelp
Amazing experience on our 3 hour trail ride with Aaron! My kids (12 & 14) had only ridden once before and they had an incredible time. One of the highlights of the trip! I strongly recommend!

Yelp
It was such a fun experience and so peaceful to ride these beautiful horses around and just take in the scenery! All the staff were amazing, knowledgeable and able to teach us. Helmets were optional. They are old school, you have to call and make a booking, but I highly recommend if you are visiting the area!!

Brian V.

Yelp
Aaron was an amazing guide. We had been on other horse rides recently, but this set a much higher standard. We did a 4 hour private ride with another couples and the views from on top of the ridge were amazing. Excellent ride. We will be back.

Yelp
Tayler is AH-maxing! If you can, request her for your guide! She's badass and knows so much - if you're an experienced rider or not, she's got you covered and knows so much history of the area! Had less than decent experience with Jake but it is what it is, just don't expect good customer service from him and you'll be fine lol The trail leads, the ride, the horses and the views- It's all great and a huge highlight of my trip. So happy we got past the initial fuss and went. They are the only option for winter trail rides, smart on their part, it's a beautiful experience to ride in the snow!

Yelp
Visiting Big Sky with family and all my niece wanted to do was go riding with her aunt and uncle. Snow earlier in the week (at the end of June) put a little wrench in our plans but we were able to get on the trail! Katie was our wrangler on the ride and did a fantastic job!! There were the three of us plus another mom and daughter who was about 7 years old. Katie was so good with the younger gal yet kept everyone else engaged. The trail was beautiful and she took some stops along the way so we could enjoy the views. We did the two hour ride and halfway through we stopped and she took pictures of each group. I loved how she knew the personalities of each horse and was good about adjusting our saddles to make sure we were comfortable on the ride. Great experience... would recommend!! Would love to come back and do a longer ride.

Yelp
Went on a 2 hour ride with my husband. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We loved the whole experience. Would recommend!!

Duane C.

Yelp
Great time with Jake's Horses today. The staff is wonderful and the horses well cared for. We had a truly fun experience with the 5 of us Plus the guide. We did have a couple of minor mishaps when one of the horses in our ride slipped on loose dirt downhill and fell. Neither the horse or rider were hurt and my son got right back on. At the end of the 2 hour trail ride which boasted majestic scenery, my other son's horse who had been lazy and docile the entire ride decided to show his oats and buck. My son was tossed off but uninjured and wanted to get back on. What can I say, I have tough sons. Since it happened just before crossing the road where the staff were waiting , they witnessed it and immediately rushed over to ensure that he was ok. We all were able to laugh about it. They insisted on comping us for two out of the 5 trail rides because of the two mishaps even though it was not their fault. Do not let this frighten novice riders because the horses are very safe and tame. We all agreed that this was much better than the slow poke horses we have experienced on other trail rides at different establishments. These are great people who wish to provide an enjoyable experience. Recommend them highly and would go back.

Yelp
If you want a true riding experience , Jake's is the place to go! The guides were knowledgeable and helpful. The ride through the country was lovely. We saw several deer, and a beautiful stream. If you are a city slicker and are afraid to get your hands dirty, this won't be for you. I will definitely return and hope to take a longer ride!
google avatar

Joyce B.

Yelp
We had an incredible ride with Katie. The only little negative is that we weren't really given an informative tour of our surroundings But that's okay it was still an absolutely incredible ride. This was only my Devon time on a horse and mine was named Chloe and so gentle. She did like to trot occasionally but all the horses seemed to do that. I called the day before, left a message and hoped we were able to ride the next day. Jake who I only assumed I was talking to was great and got us in that afternoon. Unless you drive there on your own be careful to make sure you got a ride back to wherever you are. It's not exactly remote but we were lucky enough that our Uber driver waited for us in a nearby town until our 2 hour dive was over. But it was an awesome experience and cheaper than some of the horse ranches I had researched. Highly recommend.

Brandy W.

Yelp
Recommend anyone visiting the area to go here. Annie our guide was amazing and gave us the best ride. 10/10 experience all around!
google avatar

Anita R.

Yelp
We had a beautiful scenic ride with Ethan in Yellowstone. Shadow and Tess were great horses and Smokey provided us with a great story! Thank you Ethan for recommending the documentary Unbranded on YouTube.... It's definitely a must watch!

Chris S.

Yelp
Awesome trip today with the family. Went on a two hour ride with Lincoln as our guide. She answered any questions we had and helped anyway that was needed. Great views and beautiful weather.
google avatar

Jackie H.

Yelp
Such an amazing Montana experience. Highly recommend if you are looking for an activity. We loved our tour guide Madison and Hotrod, very knowledgeable wrangler and patient with inexperienced riders!
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
Jake's horses was amazing! We had the recommendation from the owner of the home that we stayed at and absolutely loved every minute of our two hour ride! While the business is very simple and not text savvy as far as booking, what you will see and experience far outweighs the trouble in scheduling! Lily and all the other workers were absolutely amazing and the horses were awesome! I cannot say enough great things about Jake's Horses and the service that we received this July 4 week!
google avatar

Yelp
My mom was coming to visit Montana for the first time and we wanted to do an activity that was fun and outdoors, but not too strenuous or intense. I found Jake's Horses on Yelp and we had the BEST TIME! Jake is very responsive and prepped us well for what we needed to wear/bring since we'd be riding in January after a snowfall. Brittany was our guide and she was a wonderfully friendly and so much fun to talk to. The horses at Jake's are also great - handsome, happy, healthy and very well-behaved/responsive. I've ridden where the horses haven't been taken care of well, (not enough breaks between rides, too heavy of riders, etc.) and Jake's seems to take excellent care of their horses. Our ride was beautiful and so much fun, especially in the deep snow. Brittany took a great photo of us all which we really appreciated. My mom had so much fun and was so taken aback by the experience that it brought her to tears, so hopefully that conveys what a great time we had. They're also the only riding option year-round, and winter rides are great! If you're looking to horseback ride in Montana, definitely do it at Jake's.

Yelp
First time in Montana and horseback riding was on the top of our to-do list. When I was researching places to go Jake's continually came up as the best option. When I booked it we weren't sure what to expect & it ended up being the best experience. Everyone at Jake's was incredibly helpful for all riding levels and Jackson (our cowboy guide) was great; he was wicked knowledgeable and just an all around fun guide to have. The wranglers picked the perfect horses for everyone in our group, and the horses are so gentle yet have such fun personalities. If you're in the Big Sky area & looking to go riding, 100% go to Jake's. Side note, go to the Gallatin Riverhouse Grill after. It's right across from Jake's, along the Gallatin River - delicious food & even better view.

Yelp
I want to start off this review with two thumbs up for Jake's Horses guided horseback riding. When we arrived the staff was very polite and friendly. They helped us with sizing up our saddles and chose the right horses for our group. After we all saddled up, we were introduced to our guide. Our guide was Jackson and he was Amazing. He took us on an incredible breath taking ride through the river, meadows, hill and woods. He made sure everyone was comfortable and stopped several times to help riders adjust their gear. He even took photos of each couple or groups. What can I say about the horses....these were the Best horses I've ever seen at a public riding place. They were all very friendly and docile. None of them went rogue, nor did they buck or give anyone troubles. They were so sweet and obeyed their commands like a prize horse. Everyone who went with our group all fell in love with their horse. My wife had Stranger and I had Shadow, both were amazing. We have been in the Yellowstone/ Big Sky area for the past 7 days and this by far was our best adventure and most epic experience. We will 100% be back and ride with Jake's Horses again. I yelped searched several places before choosing Jake's, I'm so glad we decided on Jake's
google avatar

Warren L.

Yelp
Jake's place is very basic. Don't let that fool you. This was one of my top three vacations ever! The guides were awesome and knew everything there was to know I never felt worried about anything. First timer on a horse trip. Don't let the terrain or the horses scare you, they, the horses will be your best friend. The food was awesome. My group helped them as much as we could through out our trip it just learn and get to know horse back riding sport. Kind of a working vacation. They seemed to appreciate our help and gave us more ride time. They are some of the hardest working people that I know. We had a group 7 for a two day pack trip. Worth every penny. We tipped $200 a person. All though I'm not sure that was enough. Go Don't be afraid you will see stuff no hikee or side railed sidewalk park location will show you.
google avatar

M W.

Yelp
Avoid the place at all costs. The horses are not well trained and frequently took off, ignoring our instruction with their reins, and there were dangerous times as a result of this. The worst part of the ride was our guide, Holden (little cowboy). He rarely looked back to ensure my kids and I were okay and he was going WAY too fast for a leisurely trail ride in the snow. These pack horses follow one another (at least their supposed to) so our horses were galloping to catch up to him downhill in muddy/rocky snow which resulted in 2 falls. I'm an experienced rider, I owned 2 horses, and I felt unsafe during this ride. We did a trail ride in Yellowstone last June and it was an exceptional ride with experienced guides who were concerned with safety and pleasure.
google avatar

Fallon F.

Yelp
Koby was our guide and he made our experience 10/10! If you're in Big Sky, I would definitely recommend a trail ride at Jakes Horses.
google avatar

Ann C.

Yelp
This was my 3rd time riding with Jake's and it was incredible. Our guide Tristan was so nice and also very knowledgeable. We had experienced riders as well as first timers and he made everyone feel very comfortable. He answered all of our questions with eager and detail. He was also very good about making sure we were all safe and comfortable but also being hands off so that we could enjoy the experience with freedom. Definitely ask for saddle bags to hold your phone, water etc. We did a 2 hour ride and it was perfect. They also did a very good job of wearing masks and requiring us to wear masks during the paperwork and load up process but then allowing us to take them off once we got on the trail. I highly recommend and will definitely be going with Jake's again!

Mary D.

Yelp
OUTSTANDING!!! Horses were great and the Guide was very knowledgeable, and took the time to ensure the "newer" riders were comfortable. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Heather K.

Yelp
We enjoyed the most fabulous day with Christine, exploring Fan Creek! Our horses, Micky, Misty and Beaver were perfect. We rode through blooming meadows and evergreen Forrests. The fishing was great and our guide Christine was a dream come true. Thank you for providing us with great customer service, and a unforgettable experience!!!

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
This was the best experience for my 3 friends and I! Our guide Lily was kind, patient and answered all our annoying tourist questions with a smile. The horses all seemed well cared for and the trail ride was STUNNING! I can't recommend this place enough
google avatar

Nichole S.

Yelp
Our guide, Alex, was super sweet and the views were great! The horses were very well mannered and we felt super safe riding. This is an absolute must when you're visiting the area!
google avatar

Samantha I.

Yelp
We had a wonderful morning ride with Riley. We absolutely enjoyed the views and it's a memory we will cherish. Riley was knowledgeable and attentive. I will say, we experienced all four seasons in our ride. Come prepared with layers of clothing, wear jeans and socks. Gloves and hand warmers saved the day. It is mid May and we left the stables in sunshine and returned to the stable in falling snow.
google avatar

Brandy V.

Yelp
Thanks Cody for taking my girls and I on a fun trail ride. We had a great ride and beautiful scenery.

Mike M.

Yelp
It was an amazing experience altogether! The trail was beautiful- we did a 2hr ride with Cam and had our three kids ages 8-12. Everyone loved it! Highly recommend. Wranglers are great!
google avatar

Kelsey H.

Yelp
What an amazing experience with our guide Taylor. All 8 of us had little to no experience riding horses, and it was the highlight of our trip. The horses went on "autopilot" and knew exactly what to do and where to go. I personally loved my 33-year old horse, Scar, and loved every minute. What a truly "Big Sky" experience. Wouldn't have changed a thing!

Alexis R.

Yelp
Jake's Horses made my friends and I's trip to Big Sky such an a amazing time. I want to give a special shout-out to Jo. She was so friendly, compassionate, experienced, and knowledgeable. You could tell she truly cared about each horse and worked to build good relationships with them. We had one friend in our group who had never rode a horse and Jo picked out the perfect horse for her an taught well. For us more experienced riders, she help pick out horses for us that suited our riding styles. The weather was beautiful and it was the best view I saw my whole trip. She gave wonderful tips while riding and made sure we were all okay. 5 stars!!

Yelp
My mom and I scheduled a 2 hour escorted ride through the local area. The business was hard to find , thank goodness for GPS, plus it was snowing so any signs were covered. Our female guide was very nice and made sure we were comfortable with our horse. As we were riding our horse , walking speed across the outfitters property towards the trail, my horse got spooked by a workers car that had left their windshield wipers on and it was no longer snowing so it made a horrible screeching noise as we were passing by. My horses eyes got huge , he reared up on two legs and took off Full throttle back to his barn area. I pulled on the reins , said woah, no, stop, but nothing worked and I held on for life while I was thinking, " crap I signed the no helmet waver !" After the scariest ride ever he through me into the barn and I hit my head. Thank goodness for the snow padding. I was okay but was done. I no longer wanted to do the ride. I was told that I could have a different horse or leave, no refund. I wasn't going to pay for a service and not get it so I begrudgingly got on an older slower horse used for kids called Maggie-Mae. This horse was very sweet, but looked tired. I was not afraid of her but I felt bad for her. The snow was deep , and she stumbled through the unplowed trail. I had to hold on for life this time because she kept slipping, tripping, and almost fell. I couldn't enjoy the nature and the experience because my head hurt from my initial fall and I was terrified this horse was going to fall. When we arrived back in one piece , I thanked God and got out of there. Not fun. I have experience riding, but you can't always control an animal. I don't blame the horse , I blame the carelessness of the worker that kept their car running, and being refused a refund or even partial credit. The below picture is me on Maggie-Mae. Poor old gal.

Yelp
What a wonderful place to ride. Staff super friendly, our guide Micayla couldn't have been better. Horses were well taken care of and easy to ride. The route we took on our 3 hour ride was a good mix of elevations, creeks, and timber. Just a great experience, would recommend for all levels of riders

Tim M.

Yelp
Good luck with Jake's. Tried calling email and went to visit only to find "Jake" out of town and one of his wranglers said only "Jake" can reserve.

Kathleen B.

Yelp
I went to Jake's horses with 10 of my college friends. We had the best time! Our 3 wranglers, Jackson, Anna, and Riley were the best! They were great guides for my group, which was beginners and intermediates.
google avatar

Kyle S.

Yelp
Great time here today on the 4 hour (which turned into 5 hour) trail ride. Horses are well cared for, beautiful scenery through the Big Sky mountains. Wrangler was really friendly and a great ride leader, particularly given the horse she was riding was being a bit difficult and spooking quite a bit. Loved the horse I was riding, had a great personality and would actually respond to instructions which isn't always the case with a lot of trail ride horses. Plenty of opportunity to trot as well which was nice. Looking foreword to my next ride at Jake's. Great for both beginners and experienced riders.
google avatar

Susan W.

Yelp
I rode on Monday, 9/11/17, with several other couples and had a wonderful time. Erin, our guide, did a great job describing the sights and was attentive to us and the horses. The horses seem well cared for, which is important to me. This was the second time I've ridden with Jake's and I've been pleased both times. I wish you had a way to ride for more experienced riders. Trail riding is fine, but I'd like to do a little more cantering and exploring on a future trip. Thank you!

Cathy U.

Yelp
We returned with our whole family to ride again at Jakes and we all LOVED our experience! Taylor was our guide and she made it SO much fun for us all and we had ages 7 to 60's on our ride. The horses were GREAT and knew what they needed to do, where to go and we all got a chance to NOT just walk, but trot a fair amount and even some horses jumped over a one foot log...which was really fun to witness. We thoroughly ADORE Taylor and all the staff at Jakes and just hope to RETURN to do this again! Best of Luck to Taylor!! Cathy and Ken Ude and family

CJ P.

Yelp
Jake does not care about you, he is extremely rude and only cares about your money. We are locals and have never dealt with such a rude, condescending business owner around here. We are so disappointed that he treats people the way he does. As locals we will NEVER go riding with Jake's and we will NEVER recommend him to any of our patients, friends, family, strangers, or enemies. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY. There's plenty of wonderful places to ride with who do not treat you like crap.
google avatar

Sayle A.

Yelp
Had an incredible ride at Jakes! Horses were calm / great. Claire was a great guide and had tons of great stories. Request her! If I could give 6 stars would!

Susan M.

Yelp
Friendly guide and gorgeous terrain This was our second time riding horses at Jake's. This time we had Jenna for a guide. She was so friendly, nice and knowledgeable! She was patient with new riders and made everyone comfortable. Jenna slowed when we needed it and kept us apprised of narrow paths to come. We thoroughly enjoyed our two hour ride through beautiful spots and scenery. Buttermilk was the perfect choice for our novice rider, Pacific was feisty but obedient and Journey was great for our expert among the group. You cannot go wrong with Jake's. We will be back in a few months for our next family trip to Montana.

Yelp
Knew coming out to Montana for the first time that we would want to go trail riding somewhere. As we got closer to our stop, I started searching for stables who offered guided trail rides in the mountains. I quickly found that in mid-April, most places were not open for the season. Incredibly disappointed, but determined, I kept searching and found Jakes Horses. I called and had to leave a message, hoping I'd get a call back and they'd have last minute rides available. Jake called a few hours later and I was ecstatic to be able to schedule an early afternoon ride the next day. My boyfriend and I showed up a few minutes early and watched two of the guides saddle up horses and get ready for our ride. They were incredibly friendly and I knew immediately this was going to be a fantastic experience. I had no idea just how wonderful it would be. Our guide Jo (I hope I got it right) and one of the other guides (whose name I can't remember, I am sooo sorry) were both talkative, funny and kind. They got us signed in, gave us quick instructions and we were off. Likely because of the time of year, we were the only two riders and we chose to do a 3 hour ride. The horses were gorgeous, sure footed, and easy to ride. The ride was nothing short of amazing. She led us up over 7,000 feet, stopping to point out the breathtaking views, and a few animals and took a ton of pictures that she sent to my phone at the end. At the very top, as we were taking in the view, my now fiancé pulled out a ring, proposing with the backdrop of the snow covered mountains. Jo knew before I did what was happening and took tons of pictures and videos. I cannot express what a fantastic experience this was. The entire trip she chatted with us, telling us about different trees we passed, the wildlife we could possibly see, and all sorts of other interesting facts about Montana. I cannot recommend Jakes Horses enough. We will be back to Bozeman and we will be returning to Jakes.

Kita S.

Yelp
Jakes has been around for years. Never had a bad ride. Excellent for those with experience and better for those who have never ridden. If you are visiting Big Sky and want to explore nature on a horse, this is your place to go.

Jacquie G.

Yelp
We had the most beautiful trail ride this morning!! Katie took us up to "The top of the world" where we could see the beauty of Big Sky Katie was an excellent guide giving us the history of the land we were traveling through and making sure we were all safe and comfortable on our ride. Our horses Chloe, Klaus, Sphinx and Parker were well mannered, happy and eager to show us their home turf. We will be back for sure!! Thanks Jake's Horses!!

Lauren E.

Yelp
I am from Texas, home of the Cowboy, and have never in my life experienced such a awful experience. I was in a group of 5 couples, my husband left before we saddled up to get a 12 pack for our trail ride. The guide was a little man, who admitted he moved to Big Sky a year ago and had only been riding for a year. He waited until the couples had paired off, except me who was waiting for my husband to return. This little cowboy then talked about the horses, telling us who the slowest was. He then pointed me out and said that any of the other girls could ride this horse except for me. He then laughed and told us to figure it out. (Referring to my weight) To say I was humiliated would be an understatement. I didn't tell my husband when he returned, as I did not want to ruin the trip. When I did tell my husband, after we got home, he was furious and wanted to go back and have a talk with him. I stopped him, as that encounter would have been disastrous. I sent a detailed email to the owner, who never responded. The only bright spot to this encounter was watching the so-called little cowboy get bucked off his horse. Animals know assholes. I would not have posted this if anyone had responded to my email, but since they apparently don't care, heads-up to the awful experience I had. FYI...even if I was overweight, which I would understand, the way the asshole presented it was completely uncalled for and embarrassing. Any REAL cowboy has a sense of decency, respect and knows what a gentleman is. I had to keep my husband from having a talk with the little man. Worst experience ever. Never experienced anything like this.

Yelp
We booked a 2-hour ride with Jake's company after a morning of whitewater rafting. We happened to be the only two people on the ride (we came after the high season). I ride once every other year and have done so in places tropical to city riding but this by far was the best, most peaceful and beautiful ride I've been on. Makes me wonder what you get to see and explore with the longer rides that they offer. Being that we were a bit tired from our earlier adventures we didn't get into too much conversation with our guide so we can't really comment on that. But our horses were fabulous. I rode Buffy and my husband rode Chloe who were both very serene and would go as told with the slightest adjustment. Only thing was Buffy liked to eat a lot so I had to keep correcting her on that - but I can't blame her - I would too if I got to traverse that area. Even if you've been riding a million times - but never in Montana - this is an experience you shouldn't pass up.

Yelp
Awesome experience. They were running late because they accommodated the late comers ahead of us, but kept us nicely informed. Jenna was our guide and was delightful. The horses were beautiful and well trained. The two hour ride brought us into beautiful country. We were able to trot and walk our horses. Our MN visitors say this is a must every visit ahead!
google avatar

Tracy H.

Yelp
We just went on an hour ride but it was very enjoyable. Erin was our guide and she was so patient with us. Our horses were Shadow and Digger and they were very nice, beautiful, and had great personlities. You can tell that everyone that works there love the horses and take care of them well.

Yelp
My wife, daughter in-law, her mother & I did the 4 hour ride. So glad we did it. You can't see Big Sky Country from the road. Go up where there are no roads. Wrangler was awesome & in control.

We had a really lovely time here!! They are pretty hands-off and let riders be independent on their horses which may intimidate newer riders. However, we loved it!!! They even took us off trail riding. Our guide Kelsey was attentive and looked out for us- even breaking off branches that were in our path. She was also a great conversationalist and we had a wonderful time together. It flew by! Thanks Kelsey!!
