Google
I hang out here from time to time just to chill out, kill a few emails, get out of the house for a walk, stop for a beer, have a nice chat with Victor and Chef Mario. ln the middle of a place that has the buzz of a popular takeout place - which means an interesting people watching place!

Google
Fly Eagles Fly! 🦅 Heavy cheese and steak. Original Philly with hot peppers hit the spot. Good bar vibes with sandos. If you’re looking for a cheesesteak I definitely recommend poppin’ in. Fun spot

Grace Falcone

Google
This was the best cheese steak I’ve ever had! The atmosphere was great and the owner was SO friendly. Made sure we were taken care of and happy. They have a kiosk for ordering or you can do so in person which is nice. Get the curly fries!

David Zhu

Google
Amazing teriyaki burger with grilled pineapple from a cheesesteak spot! Juicy patty, sweet-savory glaze, and the pineapple adds the perfect touch. Staff (JR and victor) was super friendly and welcoming—great food, great vibes!

Eric Hernandez

Google
Just got a Philly steak at this place (Spinach, mushroom, provolone). This combination hit the spot! Great flavor. A nice balance of flavor.

Chelsea Kozak

Google
Jr. was incredibly personable and made me feel like I was back home on the east coast! Food was great and it was a very comfortable setting. Perfect spot to stop and eat!

KJ Diller

Google
If you’re from Philly this is the spot. Philly fans unite. Cheesesteaks are hard to find on the west coast. Great service and great cheesesteak.

Google
I just paid 17$ for basically because there hardly any meat on this Philly!! And I waited 20 minutes for less meat than I would have gotten in a 99cent burger and absolutely no peppers or the grilled onions I paid extra for! The most disappointing plate of my San Francisco experience! If I could give a zero I would

Yelp
One of my favorite cheesesteak joints in the city! The owners are super friendly and always accommodating. They have a nice selection of beers and it's definitely a fun time when footballs on (if you're an eagles fan and you don't know about this place, you MUST check Jakes Steaks out!) They PACK their cheesesteaks with meat. My go to is the mushroom. I tried their cheesesteak eggroll and it instantly became a favorite (I believe it's currently a special - but if you see the sign up that they have it you gotta try it out) I came during an eagles game so the house was packed and it was really fun to experience the energy from all the fans. They also have a Mission Location which is just as good :)

Yelp
Jake's is still doing it. Very good cheesesteak still. Fried mushrooms absolutely terrible. Hotdog traditional. If you want a cheesesteak this will get the job done.

Yelp
Delicious and elegant. The shrimp could have been a bit warmer. I used to go here with my aunt since I was 13. She was an engineer in San Jose.
google avatar

Yelp
amazing environment for a philadelphia sports fan. The cheesesteaks are the best you'll get in the bay area and they sell tastykakes!! Definitely the place to go for philly sports games. Bartenders and servers have some incredible energy as well

Yelp
Got the 12" and it looked loaded with steak but somehow felt a little light, and I'm not a big guy. But still it's delicious with the whiz and the bread was toasty and airy. For all I know this is exactly how it is in Philly, but I've had other cheesesteaks that had thicker meat, more onions, and was more filling. And it's Eagles country here so must've been a blast last month and during the season.
google avatar

Yelp
IMSRO, the best cheesesteak in SF. The kitchen is not fast. And the indoor ambiance is not existent. But order the basic cheesesteak, order with peppers, sit outside if it's a nice day. And enjoy a delicious sandwich. Worth the wait.
google avatar

Sam D.

Yelp
Takes about 20 minutes to get a cheesesteaks despite nobody in line. So you must order well In advance

Yelp
The place is located on a small but crowded street. Parking can be a challenge, as the Moscone Softball Fields are close by. This was my first time at Jake's. Friendly service. Bar service available. Multiple TV screens showing professional sports. 12" Original Philly Cheesesteak: Go traditional " Whiz wit" (This means cheese Whiz, with onions. Good sized sandwich. They did not skimp on the meat, which was compactly chopped up and seasoned well. The Amoroso bread was soft yet firm. I am not a Philly cheesesteak expert, but I thought this was pretty good and delicious. Yelp Check-in and get a free soda.

Yelp
It was ok, the steaks were kinda dry, peppers were ok, cheese became hard as the sandwich got colder. Decent, but not "out of the way" Great.

Yelp
Was in the area when I saw the sign for a cheesesteak sandwich from this restaurant. It immediately sounded like a good lunch option and I ordered one right away. The Mushroom Cheesesteak sandwich I got was amazing, just what I expected. Will order from here again the next time I pass by.
google avatar

JT G.

Yelp
Nice quaint little bar/pub style joint I got the mushroom cheesesteak. The flavor of the steak/cheese was fabulous with some tangy pepperoncinis added in. Super SOLID! Highly recommend. Owner is a nice guy as well.

Yelp
Delicious. We stop here every time we are in the Marina District. Service is excellent and the atmosphere is welcoming.

Tony D.

Yelp
We seen Jake's passing by headed to the fields by Bay St to play with the dogs. Later when we got back home my girl was craving cheese steak. I went online to Jake's website and the pictures did not excite me, the majority of the reviews spoke more to Eagle fans vs the food itself. Yelp convinced me to order. The classic Philly was what I went with and expecting. Seemed to be of decent size, bread soft, good amount of wiz not too much or too dry. I opted for curly fries vs crisscut. I was very pleased considering my initial hesitation.

Michael B.

Yelp
I have been here a few times. This place never fails. I got the original Philly and my wife got a chicken sandwich. Both were great. Philly wit wiz - taste just like the better cheesesteaks in Philadelphia. The only critique would be about the waffle fries. I wish they had steak fries. The curly fries were fantastic.

Joe B.

Yelp
Amazing cheesesteak, and the service was great. Great vibe with the sports playing, and the staff were super nice as well

Yelp
Before the Eagles beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship game, SFGate published an article about this Philly sports bar on a residential side street of the Marina. My college friend and I knew we had to go there to watch the Super Bowl (though they have another location on Valencia.) We have a soft spot for Philly after going to college there. Jake's is a mood, a vibe, and makes you feel like visiting Philly. It's a slice of Philly in SF and I can't imagine a better place to watch the Super Bowl. People got there when they opened to get indoor seats, and at 11:30am for a 3:30pm game to get outdoor seating. Some people also brought their own fold-up sports chairs for the occasion. I've never seen so much Philly or Eagles gear in SF, and people came from all over the Bay Area to watch the game there. The current owner, Jr., now goes by Jake. He was the best host. They prepped green jello shots for the occasion and provided great beer like Liberty Ale. The indoor decor pays an homage to Philly sports, not just the Eagles. The inside wall includes a large image of the Schuylkill River. Of course, the cheesesteaks were perfect. My college friend said it's the best one he's had since leaving Philly. They have a nice delivery business going, but the main reason you go here is for the community and the people. And Jake.

Yelp
Here for my daughter's softball playoffs checking out the Eagles vs Vikings. Jakes is a Philadelphia fan hang out and they had big screen TVs, speakers, tables and air horns going off during game. We were there to grab a small protein snack and ordered the cheesesteak with mushrooms. It was good, gooey and cheesy. The 12" cheesesteak and a Diet Coke is $20. Good deals on beer. Limited service order at the register. Street parking only.

Oleg B.

Yelp
Sandwich was good, we order garden salad to go and they didn't put olives as it should be. Not friendly.

Leo T.

Yelp
Fantastic Cheesesteak- best I've ever had. The vibe in there is awesome, and the staff couldn't be any nicer. 10/10 recommend.

Devon G.

Yelp
Amazing service and the best Philly cheesesteak I've ever had! The bacon Philly cheesesteak was cooked to perfection and the quality of the meat and the bacon was fantastic.

Yelp
We wanted to watch the NFC champion game while on vacation and came across Jake's steaks We definitely are true diehard Eagles fans living close to Philly. One of the owners Jake I believed worked so hard to making sure everyone had an amazing time air horns music Eagles songs loud speakers Everyone high fiving each others singing to the music we got there early people sitting outside in the cold. All I can say if you're in San Francisco and miss a little taste of home and your from the tri state area. You must check out this place and if your here while the Eagles are playing perfect bar to watch the game

Yelp
Great cheesesteaks, but watch out for the Buffalo Chicken. I have never had a hotter sandwich.

Yelp
Ordered through Postmates and our food came warm! Rating this place 4 stars because they got our order wrong, but the food that came was still good. Originally, I ordered the original cheesesteak, mozzarella sticks, curly fries and onion rings but instead of the original cheesesteak and mozzarella sticks, I received the Pepperoni Cheesesteak and jalapeño poppers. The sides were really good! Typical bar food, but all the fried stuff was perfectly fried and was good quality. The pepperoni cheesesteak had a lot of meat. 8 inches is more than enough for one person. 12 inches would've been way too much meat for me. I liked the crisp of the pepperoni and the meat was juicy.

Yelp
As a self proclaimed CS aficiando, Jake's wins in SF. I went on Reddit and so many ppl claimed cheesteak shop or busters... both are no where near as good... everything from Jake's is the bomb... and probably the best buffalo sauce on wings in the city too.

Jessica A.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. We expressed how it was our first time there and had some questions. I've never been to any restaurant that is COMPLETELY UNABLE to do onions on the side. When I asked the cashier, he stated that he has worked since 2015 and no one has ever asked for onions on the side, YET his boss told him that they are NOT able to do onions on the side. Strange that it's a rule and no one in 10 Years has asked for this magical mythical request. Also mayo is extra?! In what world?! His demeanor and sassy passive aggressiveness caused us to head over to Ly's Vietnamese where we were treated with the BEST customer service and had some amazing food! So thank you for being a kcid
google avatar

Yelp
Here is the problem. Prices ridiculous expensive for the quality. The cheeses are liquid cheeses of bad quality. Not real cheeses. Everyone in my group had the runs for the next 24 hours. This was not a good experience at all. Do you want to be sick? Try it.
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
Again I tried to give this place another try.... Bad experience. Today I came and ordered the cheesesteak special & a regular Philly whiz cheese sandwich with fries. The whole order was $40... which is pretty high now and a bit understandable. Also PS they charge .75 cents for sauces!!! Each! Anyways the situation was that I asked the employee to please remind me of my order for any confusion and the employee said to me "just look at the screen." I didn't appreciate the attitude. On top of this, I get my order and the onions/cheesesteak was overflowing the bread in the sandwich and was hard to enjoy. I also didn't feel comfortable telling the employee the way the food was because of the attitude too. Bad service honestly. Sorry but had to share this experience to warn others.
google avatar

Carmen M.

Yelp
This establishment is not ready to receive diners, I waited about 3 minutes for someone to come to the register, when they finally came they took my order in a rush, the atmosphere felt like they had things more important things to do than to give a good costumer service, at least the sandwich was good
google avatar

Latrice W.

Yelp
Ordered a chicken Philly, curly fries and cheese sticks. Chicken wasn't well seasoned at all, not enough cheese or salt. Curly fries were whatever. Mozzarella sticks were seasoned well. Customer was really good tho. Bathroom kind of suspect lol. Sorry
google avatar

Joelle H.

Yelp
The BEST cheesesteak in San Francisco! You will not regret coming here! The service was amazing! Friendly staff and delicious food!
google avatar

Tina W.

Yelp
Ordered 8 inches and got 12. Not a bad start. Sando lives up to the hype. Will be back. They even offer cheese whiz.

Zach S.

Yelp
Great customer service, the most hospitable place you'll find in the city. The cheesesteak hits right and the place is comfy. Come on by.
google avatar

Alana L.

Yelp
Loved the food. They did not skimp on anything. And their Club Salad was amazingly tasty. Will visit again!

Yelp
Awesome service and a great steak sandwich. Not a big place and a lot of carry out orders while i was there.

Jake H.

Yelp
goated cheesesteak. owner couldnt be nicer. cool ahh sports bar with tvs everywhere. couldnt recommend more
google avatar

Brett G.

Yelp
Enjoyable spot serving up burgers, cheesesteaks, and other sandwiches in a small, cozy sports bar environment. Cheesesteak was flavorful with well-seasoned grilled onions, typical cheese whiz, and generous portion of steak. Loses a star because the bread is in a sort of no man's land where it's not the light fluffy type you get in Philly but also not some sort of dense toasted option.

Ian S.

Yelp
Great place to catch Eagles games for Philly transplants!!! Cheesesteaks served on authentic Amoroso rolls with curly seasoned fries.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
I'm writing an update after catching a few Eagles games at Jake's over the last few years. My previous review was just for my experience with the delivery. Philadelphia sports fans gather at Jake's to grab a bite but also to bond over our shared love for our favorite teams. The staff are all so friendly, down to earth, and really passionate about Philly sports. The cheesesteak is still great so I have no complaints (though I still desperately want a local hoagie spot, nothing here does it for me)!

Kenny K.

Yelp
Fantastic meal and service. Meg was outstanding. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great steak and service. The atmosphere is perfect for a perfect evening.
google avatar

Pascale S.

Yelp
Good food and good cheesesteaks. Good service when dining in but pickup is also fast and easy if you need to run.
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
Ordered for pick up as we were staying at a hotel nearby (ordered meatball sandwich, fries) and was so shocked at how big the sandwich was and how delicious it was. I never jump on to write food reviews, but it was SO good that I had to. 10/10 would recommend and would eat there a ton if I lived in SF.

G L.

Yelp
Couple of dudes hanging out at the bar enjoying a beer (sept 5), door open , Yelp says open for another hour until 11:00 on a Thursday. "We're closed! ". I guess only the employees are allowed to eat and drink until closing time!! It was the cook who just didn't want to serve me.

Yelp
On the 8th day God created the Philly Cheesesteak and I can't find anyplace that does it better than Jake's Steaks. The trinity of Cheese Whiz, sautéed onions and grilled steak reaches heavenly heights in this church of all things Philly. And their cheese smothered waffle fries would be worthy of a last supper or afternoon watching the Eagles. Thank you from a devout follower.
google avatar

Andrew F.

Yelp
Great cheesesteaks on authentic Philly rolls. Chicken and steak options with provolone or wiz. I like wiz with steak and provolone with chicken.
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
A steady favorite of mine for years. Their new location, well of a few years now, had some growing pains, but now everything is on point. Food was delicious, made fast and everyone was really fun and friendly. Just what I needed after a long day. Thanks guys

Tyrese L.

Yelp
Sixty dollar overpriced for steak sandwich, hamburger, and tenders no fires. And the steak sandwich wasn't appetizing at all. And the burger wasn't toast as I request. I also asked for my condiments to be on the side, which they though on the burger. The burger meat looked like it was slaughtered twice, I throw it away, wouldn't even feed it to my dog. If your looking for a late night male, I strongly suggest spending your money elsewhere- try "The Melt".

Michelle M.

Yelp
I have been coming to Jake's for years and I grew up in Philadelphia, so I understand what makes a good cheesesteak. I went there yesterday ordered cheesesteak with onions, provolone and hot cherry peppers. Amoroso roll check, provolone check, Cherry peppers check, steak oops did they forget the steak??? It tasted like a melted cheese and onion sandwich on a good roll. Could not taste the steak because there was so little meat. The ingredients were authentic but it was pick one: Either the worst cheesesteak every or an ok cheese and onion sandwich. Dear Jake's try putting some meat in the roll next time

Yelp
Looks like a good place - nice ambience, a little bar area, a tv. I called with an order and stopped in, no one was there but it was lunch time so maybe dinner is a better time to go. I ordered a chicken cheese steak with onions. The guy at the register acted annoyed by nothing to do with me. He was efficient enough, I took a couple pictures and checked in and an offer for a free soda came up, I placed my phone on the counter so he could see it and pulled a couple bucks out for tip, he sees it, ignores it as I put in the cash, he hands me my bag so I mention 'hey, mind if I cash in on this soda" - oh yeah grab one out of the cooler." - cool, thank you. I look in the bag, a sandwich and fries that you pay separately for - no napkins, ketchup, salt, - well just fries and the sandwich. May I have some napkins please - peels one napkin off haha, ok how about 2 more of those and a few ketchup packets, gives me 2 napkins and then tries to hand me 23 ketchup packets. Ok. Later - Fries are ok, slightly undercooked and need salt. The sandwich looked like chicken breast squares you buy in a can - very dry, and the cheese sauce tasted nothing like cheese. I'm from Pittsburgh, Pa where they make great Cheese Steak sandwiches, not Philly, where they talk about making them. This is a no go for me - the sandwich was horrible, I threw 3/4 of it away. And the customer service is geared more towards masochists - not for me.

Yelp
I'd forgotten that I'd reviewed this place before in 2009. Just went back to give it another try. This time, there was PLENTY of cheese, but the WRONG cheese. We asked for provolone in 3 cheese steaks and got SWISS. Whaaa?? If they were out of provolone, we would've appreciated being told and then getting a choice between Whiz Wit and Swiss. We'd have picked WW, dude. Again, the steak and roll were decent, but the Swiss really ruined the cheesesteak feel and smell. I asked for sweet peppers, but there was only a smattering of them. I still miss the Phat Philly peppers and giardiniera bar. We'd ordered two 12" and one 8", but got two 8" and one 12". We added a waffle fries, but they tasted like bland, no-oil air fryer ones. Blah. Service was decent. Who gets Swiss on their cheesesteak, sigh. Not running back.
