"This tiny takeout spot rocks the Mexican food people say you can't find in NYC. Tortas are the menu highlight. I usually go for the $1.50 spicy pork tacos, with fresh made chips and guac." - Jason Powers

Their food was better before. I remember used to nachos all the from Jalapeño King, it was even my brother's favorite, but now their food is not like it's use to be. The chilaquiles had the texture of oatmeal and chicken tasted like Costco's rotisserie chicken from a day before.

Fresh ingredients, large portions, clean seating area and great customer service- what more could you ask for?? Highly recommend.

I used to live very close to this place and loved their nachos. On the day when I was moving out, I went to grab my final nachos here and they treated me with free nachos saying it’s a good bye gift. Nice guys.

Google
Popped in here after walking away from an overpriced food truck experience down the road. $7 for a taco is ridonk! So happy we found Jalapeño King. Authentic food, family run business. The tacos, tostadas, burritos, rice/beans, & chips/guac were all perfection. I can’t even begin to describe how amazing albeit spicy their salsas are too 🌶️!!! We’re new to the area but will certainly make this a regular dining option!

My go to take out taco and quesadilla spot. Amazing Al-pastor and corn quesadilla. Friendly staff and delivery driver!

Google
Family owned business are always the best because it's family that's behind the grill and register here. The torta de milanesa, or the hawaiana are my favorite. The nachos are great. Tostadas are amazing here. Everything is good here for your liking. After a while you'll start to feel like family here and joke with them. I come here every week Friday for food.

Yelp
I ordered an order of nachos right after a long day at work. The nachos are the epitome of what good nachos should be - crunchy and loaded with toppings. But especially, cheesy! There was so much cheese on their nachos that I could have separated some and put it on another order of anything. If you love cheesy nachos, this is the place to go!

Yara L.

Yelp
Second time ordering at jalapeño king. Order a Tripa burrito no lettuce no pico one of the best burritos in Brooklyn south slope. Excellent customer service. Have them on speed dial. Yum.

Sandy D.

Yelp
I was feeling in the mood for a burrito bowl from Chipotle, but ultimately decided to try out an authentic bowl for once. The tortas, cemitas, and quesadillas were tempting me, but I resisted and chose the Steak Burrito Bowl ($12). The food was beautifully presented, with sour cream and my requested verde sauce on the side. With Mexican rice, pinto beans, tomatoes & other vegs, GUAC, and steak, this was a party on a platter. With the sauces, everything just meshed so well together, which was what I craved. I especially loved how creamy the beans were. True to its name, there are peppers in there so it's a bit picante! Other than that, everything tasted pretty standard. The steak was charred but definitely could have been more flavored. Overall, really satisfying meal. I would want to order again and try their other food options!

Raul B.

Yelp
Wonderful food. I loved the Chicharrón en salsa verde and the Torta de Milanesa. Rafael provided amazing service!

Ann C.

Yelp
The food is fresh and delicious. There are excellent vegetarian options. The folks behind the counter are friendly! Highly recommend!

Milana T.

Yelp
Got a steak burrito bowl for $15. Tasty and filling. Living up to its name, i think the pico de gallo had some jalapenos that gave it a nice kick. Friendly and efficient service. Clean interior. Would like to come back and try more

Janet Y.

Yelp
Hole in the wall gem in Greenwood! Honestly was not expecting much but this place has the best tasting al pastor I've had up and down Park Slope in the last 10 years. The pricing is super affordable and the regular tacos comes 3 to an order. I love getting their al pastor burrito bowl. Just keep in mind their salsa is made with fresh jalapeno in it so it's spicy! I learned the hard way but if you pick out the bits and seeds, it's very good mixed with everything. This has quickly became our go-to place for Taco Tuesday! Try it and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

James S.

Yelp
Fine if you're hungry and want something quick to eat. I've only had the burritos which are generally mushy but taste fine.

Jose C.

Yelp
It was bad, nachos were bunk. Flautas were ok. Delivery gets all the points, dude came down in the rain and they had to bless him with cash so taxes from the bank wouldn't steal from him. Not the best food I ever had but makes me happy I'm moving money for the greater good. Vote 11/3

Dallas D.

Yelp
After a few disappointing Mexican dinners from other restaurants in the area, this place BLEW. MY. MIND. Excellent quality meat that's seasoned to perfection. Jalapeño king Torta is a must. Nachos are delivered with separate salsa and guac, a small but very appreciated detail. You are king. Cheers. Other notable dishes: steak quesadilla, jalapeño king tacos.

Lora R.

Yelp
Yum, yum, yum... The layers of flavors in tortas are heavenly, but Jalapeno King makes a point of making the layers leave a lasting impression. For that, I'm happy there is distance between us, otherwise I'd be uncomfortably layered lol. Eventually, I'll try other things at this tiny restaurant. It's just really hard to deviate from the torta.

Vanessa P.

Yelp
I love jalapeño king!! All the food is delicious!! They always deliver on time and are very courteous!!

Julianna C.

Yelp
Find this little hole in the wall spot right on 5th ave! The location is very small but so cute and welcoming. The gentleman who greeted me and tone my order was very professional. The food was amazingly good! Hooked, I'm a forever customer now! I had some nachos replaced the cheese with the Mexican cheese and YUM!!!!! I love how they put the toppings on the side so it doesn't get soggy. I also had the tostadas al pastor which is also delish! Give them a try and you won't regret it!!

Yelp
Great Mexican food in the neighborhood. The prices are fair and the food is authentic

Kayla J.

Yelp
This is my favorite place in the neighborhood. I always get the quesillo torta to go, and it is a cheese-loving vegetarian's dream. I thought all tortas were the same until I tried theirs a few years ago, and I've never looked back. The bread is just right (not too soft like many tortas), oaxaca cheese is generously portioned, pickled jalapenos add a perfect crunch & sharpness, & the lettuce/tomato/avocado are fresh, (I always ask for only a little bit of mayo because avocado is my preferred sandwich lube), and it's a bargain at $8.50. It's big enough that I can eat half for lunch and half for dinner, when I can find the self-control. The nachos & chilaquiles are good too. And the horchata! Pro tip: get the large and take it home to mix with rum :) (Can't comment on the meat because I don't eat the stuff.) Mostly it's my favorite because they're so very friendly. Please bring your business here instead of to that silly new overpriced gentrifier taco place down the block. When Jalapeno King closed at the beginning of the pandemic and it seemed like it might be forever, I wept. But they're still here and I want them to stay forever!!

Matty L.

Yelp
I was around this area so I thought I try the food again, I thought maybe it changed, but it was so terrible, I found a critter possible a ant or roach in my plate. Never again I took the food out so I did not want another thing from this place, dirty, could not believe how it gets good reviews. There are better places, Me and my daughter found better in Park Slope than these restaurants on 5th avenue they are all the same. stay clear of these dirty places.

Chris L.

Yelp
This is a pretty standard place. It's not great, but not bad. It fits the prices in my opinion. I usually get the Chicken nachos which are good fresh, but not so much reheated. I don't like the beef they use at this location because it always has little chunks of hard-as-tire-rubber fat. I hate animal fat in food, but get sick when I bite down on something I can't chew. So, I recommend the chicken.

Kate M.

Yelp
I come here probably once a week and feel so lucky to have a quick, affordable, and delicious place so close to home! The tacos are delicious (al pastor especially!), but I usually go for the quesadillas which are stuffed full of delicious cheese and fillings.

Walker A.

Yelp
I was here yesterday and got takeout . I got al Pasteur tacos which were very good and they were exactly like the ones I had in the Arizona when I lived there . my only complaint is that there was not enough meat in need stucco and not enough for Greg this is an cilantro the way I'm used to from living in Arizona and go into many times down to Sonora. The tacos are expensive but they are worth the price because they are the real deal

Maryjane L.

Yelp
Jalapeno King you are truly outstanding, I had a lovely experience here yesterday. Jalapeno King has a positive, relaxed, friendly ambience. Really flavorful and also wholesome. The crew was extremely helpful and service is amazing. I highly recommend it.

Pity P.

Yelp
Amazing food, great service and selections. I miss working over there. I'd eat lunch there often. Recommend you visit!

Devon O.

Yelp
What I am looking for in any Mexican restaurant is how close they will get to the authenticity if their homeland. From seasoning & menu items to fresh made tortillas and technique, jalapeño king shines in this neighborhood barren of quality eats. Staying at the sleep inn nearby I've had the opportunity to try several menu items here from the nachos, to the guacamole & the tortas. I had my first tamale here, and I have not gone back on them since, it's a necessity. As someone who's not a local, this secret must be discovered by anyone passing by.

J B.

Yelp
This place was a recommendation that swore it was the best Mexican food. But it definitely fell flat the chorizo quesadilla wasn't bad and probably on the better side of quesadillas I've had in brooklyn but the carnitas were horrible. I couldn't even eat more than one piece and when I mean one piece I'm talking about one little piece of meat off my tostada. Stick to their popular items for sure and don't stray.

James H.

Yelp
This place was recommended to me by another California transplant, and I will not be taking their recommendation again. Ordered delivery, which arrived pretty quickly. That's probably the only redeeming factor here. Ordered two burrito's, steak and chicken. Neither had pico de gallo and had way too much cojita and sour cream. Think your least favorite taco truck, as opposed to a great taqueria. The meats were not overdone, but were basically unseasoned. The chicken had some flavor, but the steak just confirmed that the east coast is still learning about carne asada. Not impressed, and with so many mediocre Mexican restaurants in the area, I won't be patronizing this one again.

H P.

Yelp
I came here for the first time today and ordered the chorizo quesadilla. It was thick with cheese and the chorizo was on the outside of the quesadilla. I was disappointed by this because I was really hoping for a balanced portion inside the quesadilla. The service was very nice and relatively quick. I ordered take out and brought it home. When I opened by bag and took out the napkins there was an ant crawling on it, which grossed me out. I ensured that my investigation of the ant was an isolated incident and I proceeded to eat my chorizo quesadilla. It was good. But because of the ant, the unbalanced ratio of cheese to chorizo I have to give this place three stars. I will go back but for now, three stars will have to do.

Shaine F.

Yelp
Ok I've now had the flautas, the steak tostadas, retried beans, and an al pastor burrito. YUM. Authentic, good pricing, quick to order, and the guys who run it are so friendly and make you want to keep coming back. I'd by far recommend this place.

Ting Ting C.

Yelp
Don't expect a lot of seating space because this is very much a hole-in-the-wall! Food was good but not great. I had a Shredded chicken burrito with white rice, beans, lettuce, and guacamole (a dollar extra) with a Horchata. Split everything with my friend, and it was six for each of us. Rice was so good but the burrito was definitely missing something. Overall, it was a bit bland. We got mild salsa, and it was anything but mild! It was also my first time trying a Horchata. They add a lot of cinnamon, which I think makes the drink hard to drink on its on, but other wise was a good drink. Loved the contrast of the burrito with the Horchata.

Henry F.

Yelp
Chicken Milanese CEMITAS !!!! mmmmm Excellent tacos as well. Grab a bight and go for a walk in the Greenwood Cementary!

Patrick W.

Yelp
Excellent little Mexican delivery restaurant in South Slope. Love their mushroom quesadillas and fish tacos! Good value, speedy service and friendly staff, my go-to for Mexican delivery or take out.

Sherri M.

Yelp
I love Jalapeño King for cheap and fast Mexican and they're so nice. The nachos are awesome and a huge portion, though they could use more cheese so I've started asking for extra (they obliged). The chorizo quesadilla with Mexican cheese is so good and they pile in the chorizo. The tacos are the smaller kind and I'd say they're almost on par with El Tenampa - but Jalapeño King delivers. I've been ordering from here once a week since I moved in a block away and can see myself keeping up the habit. And so what if I do? Nacho problem, man.

Ming K.

Yelp
Jalapeno King has reasonable prices and good portion of Mexican food. Individual tacos are $1.50 each. Choice of chicken, beef, pork & comes with sliced turnip n cucumber. I ordered the chicken cheese tortilla + guacamole $9.00 there's hidden sliced jalapeno in dish.(large portion) there's 2 tables for two people & window seating. Definitely good.

Jariel R.

Yelp
Such a small place which such good food. Perfect for take out and delivery. All of their food is amazing and you must try this when you can! You don't be disappointed

Darcie S.

Yelp
Want yummy, authentic tacos? Go here. Small place so I recommend takeout. Breakfast is great as well.

Ross S.

Yelp
This is THE go-to quick serve Mexican food in the neighborhood. I especially like the steak quesadillas and the "regular" nachos. Both come with generous portions at very reasonable prices. Also, if you like spice, their in house hot sauces are great. I have tried a few other menu items but I keep going back to my two favorites. Delivery and pick up are always on time and the woman working the phone/register is always very friendly.

Jordan M.

Yelp
I ordered delivery from here and it was great! I ordered the chicken nachos with a side of salsa verde and they were incredible. I loved that they serve the guac and pico on the side so I can heat up my leftovers later without everything getting gross. The portion was huge. My friend had tacos and she loved hers too. I'd highly recommend this place if you're looking for nachos.

Cassie T.

Yelp
Ordered delivery and boy, was I surprised. We got the carnita burrito, a torta and chorizo quesadilla. From the second the delivery driver handed me the bag of food, I knew we weren't going to finish it all. I had no idea the portions would be so huge! I was under the impression that for the low prices, they would be small portions but I was definitely wrong. This place delivers a kick ass value for your buck. TRY THE CHORIZO QUESADILLA or you'll regret it. It's big, oily and cheesy - everything that a good quesadilla should be.

Shawn L.

Yelp
Hands down, this place has one of the best Tortas you'll ever taste. Not to mention that it's super cheap as well. Everything is great, the quality of the food is very obvious without even tasting it. I order seamless delivery from here all the time. Service is always extremely fast (took them about 20 minutes last time). Also highly recommend ordering on the weekends because they have homemade Tamales on Saturdays/Sundays. The Guajillo sauce that comes with it is absolutely perfect. Quesadilla's are delicious and tacos are only $1.50. MUST TRY!

Adam A.

Yelp
Ordered burger and fries. Burger tasted fresh, although not flavourful. Was very disappointed in the French fries . They had no salt and tasted like nothing. They also didn't have salt packets. Give 3 stars for freshness, prices that are good , good portion size, good customers service, and not long wait. Btw Place is really small so don't expect to get a seat to eat there.

Maria C.

Yelp
Delicious tortas! The best are the Norteñas!! A mix of chorizo and steak. Bread is fresh as well as all ingredients. They overload everything with jalapeño! So in case you aren't a spicy person all you gotta say is to go light on Jalapeño. Average prices for everything in their menu and the best is that for every 9 tortas you buy the 10th is free!!

Jimmy T.

Yelp
All hail the jalapeño king! May he live and reign for a hundred years or until I'm no longer hungry. Sandwiches are huge and tasty. Nachos are cheesy and gluttonous. Its all sloppy and its all delicious! Hungry and need food ASAP? These guys are super fast delivering in their mean green jalapeño machine and never let me down when I'm starving.

Heather F.

Yelp
This place is best for delivery. A very small storefront on 5th ave. I recently ordered the nachos which were AMAZING. They had had the right amount of toppings so the chips on the bottom were not plain. That is the true test of a good nacho order and they passed with flying colors. The regular nachos included cheese, sour cream, pico, guac, and pinto beans. I got the Steak quesadilla which tasted like the mexican version of a Philly cheesesteak (i.e. delicious fusion). I also tried the chicken flautas which were terrible. I love flautas and this is not their strong point, which was a little disappointing. Overall a great meal though and we will order again! The delivery time was very quick, which is always a win to me.

Evelyn C.

Yelp
This restaurant is amazing! A week ago I had the torta de milanesa de res and it was delicious. The torta was pretty big, and everything inside was good. Today I had tacos de chorizo and bistec. They were absolutely bomb! The downside is that they only use the really small tortillas so you can finish one taco in two bites but they are so worth it because the tortilla is nice and crispy and the meat is cooked to perfection. Best tacos I've had in sunset park! They're even better than the tacos from the Tacos el Bronco truck, which if you're from the area you know what I'm talking about.

Pam P.

Yelp
I got a jalapeño king sandwich. It was just ok. The meet needed a little more flavor maybe.

Ruchi D.

Yelp
Ordered delivery - cheese torta, jalapeno poppers, and chips and guac. The poppers had very little filling, and the blue cheese packet it came with seems expired - even when we shook it, the blue cheese came out really thin and separated from the oil. The guac was average, like what you'd get at Subway, because it seems to be a mix of just avocado and cilantro. I could not eat the torta. It seemed like the torta had once been hot but got cold en route because the cheese was stringy. None of the other ingredients seemed fresh. The beans were giving off a fermented smell. Overall, not a good experience.

Aida M.

Yelp
Good Tacos! Fresh, like I like it... My only complain is that the tacos were a bit small, more like an appetizer, and I wish they added more meat - the tortilla over powered the flavor of the Taco. However, this is not a valid complaint since they are just $1.50 each in Brooklyn! :) Will buy again, but double to makeup for the size.

Nicole Z.

Yelp
Very cute lil' Mexican place near Sunset Park. If you want 1. spectacular value for your meal (and a truly amazing spread of a menu) and 2. highly fresh and authentic Mexican fare. I haven't been to any other of the many Latino food places on this, but I'll definitely come back here! My carnitas tortas was ~excellente~ and the cashiers struck an easy, friendly conversation as we waited for our food. Looking forward to coming back and getting some lovely Mexican fare.

David N.

Yelp
This is my Go To place for Mexican take out. Tacos are amazing, cemitas are delicious and the cheese quesadilla is actually habit forming. Seriously, I'm addicted. The guys running the shop are really friendly and go out of their way make you happy. Highly recommended for lunch, dinner or mid- afternoon south of the boarder craving.

Dez B.

Yelp
ordered delivery for the first time. I got the steak taco, and 2 chicken dishes. I read that the chicken is rotisserie in all meals which is definitely true... got a handful of bones in our chicken burrito which isn't ... normal? Anywho - I say stick with the tacos (away from chicken) and you're set!

Patrice B.

Yelp
I have been client for a year but unfortunately after being treated like shit by the guy who picked up the phone, I don't recomend it except if you like very rude people! Listen what the client says first before to talk like shit! Last time I got the delivery after 50min and getting the food too cold today you really crossed the red line ! So better be polite and treat the client as it has to be, if you mad, just stay home !!

Chunky C.

Yelp
Small store. Good food and cheap prices On the weekend they have tamale I only ordered take out. Not much space for a sit down dinner
