Visiting Jallianwala Bagh was one of the most emotional experiences of my life. This historic site, located near the Golden Temple in Amritsar, stands as a painful reminder of one of the darkest chapters in India’s freedom struggle. It was here, on 13th April 1919, that thousands of innocent people, including women and children, had gathered peacefully when General Dyer ordered his troops to open fire without warning. Hundreds were brutally killed, and many more injured, marking a tragedy that shook the entire nation.
Walking through the garden, I felt a deep sense of grief and respect for those who lost their lives. The bullet marks still visible on the walls and the Martyrs’ Well, where many people jumped to escape the gunfire, were heartbreaking to witness. Standing there, I could almost imagine the cries and chaos of that horrific day, and it left me overwhelmed with emotion.
While the garden today has been developed into a memorial with greenery and pathways, the silence of the place speaks volumes about the sacrifices made. It is not just a tourist spot, but a sacred ground where every Indian can connect with the struggles of our freedom fighters.
Jallianwala Bagh left me with tears in my eyes and a heart full of gratitude. It is a place that reminds us of the price of freedom and why we must never forget our history.
