I asked for a large and to please put cabbage on the side. Neither of the containers were touched prior to this picture. It’s unfortunate because the staff is nice and the food is not bad! However to spend $15 for a large and get a scoop of cabbage and an empty side of the tray is a bit unsettling. This is just a reminder to be mindful.

Edible but not mouthwatering We ordered stew chicken and oxtails. The service was slow but they apologized. The server was a pleasant young lady that took my requests seriously to keep food separate. The large was giving medium. The oxtail was tender, salty, fatty and didn’t have any pepper. We need to stop pandering our food for people who cannot handle spice and cook it the way our ancestors did! The rice and peas was shelly and not too dry. They had many drink options but beside coconut water none was sugar free. They had ample seating and good music. Located in a plaza so plenty of parking. Overall it was very basic. I won’t be going back.

Google
Juicy, flavourful, and absolutely amazing!! Portions are very good size too, we will be back!

Google
It's a chill spot. The atmosphere is okay, but problem with the food. I paid $20 for a large oxtail and I was given mostly rice. When trying the oxtail. Oxtail should melt like butter off the bone, or at least a little pull But it's extremely chewy and you can't get any of the meat from off the bones. Not worth $20. The white rice is okay, but the cabbage is not seasoned well. Overall the rice and cabbage is edible I have a lot of bones with meat for the oxtail which was supposed to be my main source of meat

Google
We ordered the Brown Stew Fish and the Jerk Shrimp. Both were fantastic! I love the slight kick from the scotch bonnet peppers in the fish. Everything was cooked to perfection. Definitely will be revisiting this place.

Google
This is a covid 19 take out review. All food is eaten fresh in the vehicle. This was my first foray into Jamaican food and man have I been missing out. I got a variety of items to try. The small chicken stew was loaded with flavor and was enough for a meal on its own. The plantains were very good. I thoroughly enjoyed both the chicken and beef meat patties. The fritter was very good. And the jerk chicken sandwich was exceptional. The people inside were very friendly and helpful. Well worth the trip to get here and give it a try. On a scale of 1-10 this is a 9

Google
Update: Oxtail is still amazing, also tried the mango drink which was very good, maybe a little too sweet. Highly recommend! Came back for the oxtail. Still excellent. I also tried the jerk chicken mac and cheese. That was expensive for the 4x4 inch square. Overall it seems like prices have gone up. I assume this is due to covid. A very nice restaurant with a clean interior. The large portion is a good size to split for lunch. Tried the jerk chicken and oxtail. Both were very good, oxtail came with a gravy that was good on the rice. Will have to try other dishes.

Google
Ordered from this place in the past and I’ve never been disappointed until now. I’m writing because I used door dash and can’t get my money refunded. I’ve never had an issue using Uber eats. No meat on one order. And I’m not sure why this was the only cheese on my order of bun and cheese.

Suzanne H.

Yelp
First time trying them, and was disappointed and we ordered through Door Dash which isn't cheap. This is the only pic I took of the fried chicken we were given.. Dry, hard couldn't even try to eat it

Helen N.

Yelp
Jerk chicken and rice and peas was flavorful and juicy. Ordered it multiple times throughout the week!

Yelp
Nobody greeted me. Nobody brain thought to say atleast a "hi" to a paying customer first and last. These people look white, who are they very uncultured they don't know how to service black customers without a greeting, maybe if im white I get a hey welcome to Jamaican kitchen what can we do for you. Good mediocre it's Vernon a wyte town what do anyone even a puppy expect. Large jerk chicken meal $15.88. First and last for some things! This taste like white people no offense I love my white folk use the cookbook to make this no Jamaican in history use cookbook pass down from family. This taste like fake commercial Jamaican food l I didn't see a Jamaican insight.

Kris H.

Yelp
Super friendly, family owned business with amazing food. We love the beef patties, chicken patties and veggie patties. They have great customer service, recognized us visiting two days in a row and asked our name, refreshing to have a business be so focused on great customer service and quality, authentic food. So glad they are so close to our house!

Betz V.

Yelp
Super excited to try this place as there are very few Jamaican places. If you make Jerk at home like we do or enjoy the flavors of a complex Jerk sauce...then the Jamaican Kitchen is just average. It's a take-out place with plenty of tables and offers variety. Service was fine, I simply ordered and sat down. Check it out to sample their jerk sauce and satisfy a tiny craving, but you need to set the bar low for flavor. Its not spicy and first I thought I ordered the wrong level. My meal consisted of the plantains (not very ripe), jerk wings and jerk pork.

Chocolate C.

Yelp
Jamaican Kitchen has really good food, I always order the jerk pork Mac and cheese. I has a slight bit of heat but amazing, I will go there again soon.

Greg W.

Yelp
Rice and peas are good, but I was disappointed with the stew chicken and jerk pork. The chicken was stringy and the pork didn't have much depth to the jerk flavor in it. The sauce was generic. However, the patty and coco bread were really good.

Brian D.

Yelp
Amazing food!! Best Jerk pork I have ever had. Real Jamaican food no question about it. Meat patties are so good and you can buy some frozen to take home for another day.

Queenie H.

Yelp
Came in on a Saturday morning because I wanted a beef patty for breakfast. The place was empty (obviously because most people would resort to pancakes but I digress). The lady at the register was very tentative and eager to answer any questions we had. We placed our orders to go and was told it'd be a six minute wait which was nothing too crazy. When the food came out it was nice and hot and ready to devour. The contents were still warm when we got home so that was great. The beef patty had to be sandwiched between the thick coco bread and boy did that fill me up until dinner time. The beef patty had a nice spicy to it and was pretty flavorful. The sweet plantains were incredibly ripe and so so so delicious. The mac and cheese seemed to be prebaked and simply reheated when ordered, but had good flavor. All in all, for a quick breakfast stop, great experience. I would come back during normal eating hours to try more of their menu... and order those plantains again!

Yelp
It was a surprise found while in town for a tournament. I had to come back for lunch the next day! I had the brown stew chicken for dinner and it was delicious! My friend had the curry goat and it was great as well. We were so impressed we told other people we were travelling with to come! We haven't been able to find jamaican food comparable down in fairfield county for sure! Came back for lunch the next day for curry chicken and rum cake. Will def stop here again next time i am in the area! Abt people complaining that it's only 4 pcs of chicken... it's 4 large pcs of chicken on the bone. It's not 4 tiny bite size pcs. Food is not free :) i also ate a large portion over 3 meals. i might have expected lower prices since it's upstate, but it was well worth it!

Jeffrey R.

Yelp
In a word, excellent! In two words "great folks!" I love all the food here! Big fan of the jerk chicken which is the main staple but that ox tail is ridiculous how good it is. As a Polish man, I can't say enough about their cabbage. Downright awesome. I ordered just the cabbage when not too hungry. This place is in the top three of my local Vernon/Manchester restaurants. Great job! Thanks!

Simone D.

Yelp
Be warned- pure and unadulterated ripoff @ Rocky Hill location The "large" stew chicken for $13.99 has 4 pieces of meat  which were mostly bone and 1 piece of chicken skin(see pic). The "chicken" on the left and right side of my plate are literally just the leg bones lmao- you can't make this stuff up! (see other pic) The "large steak" for $14.59 has 8 pieces of bite sized meat which tasted suspiciously like beef and nothing like steak. There's profit and then there's price gouging. Never again

Natasha M.

Yelp
It has a Friendly atmosphere and good quality food. It has a very Welcoming environment. I usually get veggie patties and coco bread

Fermin O.

Yelp
Food as good. Service was decent . Not much atmosphere. Works well as a take out meal.

Mali W.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Jamaican food, look somewhere else. As a Jamaican this is not it. Not only over priced but just wrong. Bun and cheese was white American cheese not Jamaican yellow cheese. I was very upset and the one piece of cheese don't add up to the bread. The sorrel was bitter and sour lacking ginger and all spice and some sweetener. Only good thing was the spicy beef patty. Didn't try the food because the prices are crazy for meals.

Ewurama A.

Yelp
Beef patties are good . I used to go there a lot, and then I walk in one day and there's a white woman behind the counter running things and taking orders . It's a little Disconcerting being sold Jamaican food by a white woman- an that put me off for a while. Not sure if the business was sold or under new management . But the quality of the food is good. Place is clean and service is prompt and friendly. Oxtail Gravy is savory, the chicken is fork tender .

Yelp
My girl is a huge fan of Caribbean food and so am I. This place recently opened up and is really close to where I live so we finally made it here to check this place out. Atmosphere/Appearance: This cozy place is right in the plaza on the corner of Talcottville Road and the Hartford Turnpike. There's a huge parking lot that has plenty of space to maneuver in. Once inside it's a very simple layout. The counter is to your left and the kitchen is right behind it. To the right are a few tables where you can sit down and enjoy your meal. Service: I mean, there wasn't much since we took our food to go, but the guy helping us was so humble and awesome. He let us sample a few things and made some great recommendations. Food: I decided to go with the large Curry Goat. It comes with a side of rice and cabbage. It was DELICIOUS. It felt so authentic and the flavors just jumped off the food onto your tongue. I loved it. Value: Pretty good! My dish was $12.99 and it was A LOT of food. It was definitely one of those meals where you wanted to fall asleep after. I'll surely be back to check out some of their other dishes soon!

Yelp
This is a surprising little place! Located in a random strip mall in Vernon, this little unassuming place is packing some serious flavor. Been to this locale multiple times. Tried a bit of there menu and enjoyed everything so far. Their jerked chicken wings have a good amount of spice but are not overpoweringly hot. They are a decent size for a wing, with the occasional monster wing sneaking into the container. Very tender, lots of flavor, just awesome wings! The jerk pork is also pretty dang good. Little fatty, but lots of flavor to counter balance it. Over their rice and beans, it's a very filling meal. The festival is kind of like a fried dough. Their rum cake has a strong rum flavor but a nice mellow sweetness. Their beef patties are fresh made in house. I prefer the spicy beef patties vs the plain, the plain ones seem to lack the same kick as their other dishes. They don't do dine in, so everything is to go. All the dishes are prepped in advance so dinners are quick to assemble (festival is cooked as ordered, so it takes a little longer). The cashiers are direct but friendly, the food is excellent, and I am surprised on how good these guys are. If you're looking for a quick bite to eat, give these guys a chance!

Al G.

Yelp
Great food, excellent service, good value. The place is more of a take out restaurant but they have some tables there in case you want to eat there. They have a few vegetarian options as well

Finly D.

Yelp
First time. Super delicious food Shared a jerk chicken pork combo with rice and coleslaw. I think it was mild spicy. Could've honestly just done my own plate but next time! Ginger beer was good too! Lotta sugar if you care but most sodas juices have lottta sugar Came on a Friday in the afternoon. Business seems to pick up around this time. I'll be back!

Tammy G.

Yelp
Five stars for super friendly service, this Jamaican Kitchen is clean and inviting. They had three veggie entrée options and a veggie patty!! I ordered a veggie stew over rice and cabbage. Delicious! Just the right amount of seasonings/heat. This delightful little Jamaican kitchen is more of a takeout restaurant in my opinion. However they do have seating so perhaps think of it like a Jamaican fast food restaurant with delicious food!

Yjohnson1908 ..

Yelp
Jamaican wings were amazing. Oxtails were small but there was LOTS of gravy. Overall it was pretty good

C. S.

Yelp
Love this small business! Their beef Pattie's are fantastic. The hot ones have more of a curry flavor to them, so I prefer the mild ones, but everything we've tried here has been out of this world delicious

Jack R.

Yelp
Best chicken out of all Jamaican restaurants I've tried in CT.

Bill M.

Yelp
The lady that works behind the counter at this place has no business working with customers!!! She's rude, nasty, inconsiderate, entitled, and she told me that she's been working with the owner Milton, for many years and no matter if I complain to him or not, she will never be disciplined or fired. I ordered 2 large orders of oxtails that comes with rice in both plates, I asked if she could put the oxtails in 1 tray and rice in the other. She said there's a shortage of trays and she can't do that. I spent about 5 minutes trying to make her understand that I won't need an extra tray as I ordered 2 large orders which require 2 trays. All I wanted was to separate the meat from the rice. The chef from the kitchen heard the conversation and he understood what I wanted and made it happen. He was very pleasant and also apologized for her demeanor. Apparently she's know to be rude to customers which must be fueled with her confidence in loyalty with the owner. I will never return to this place for the sole reason of this one staff member. Truly a nasty person that has a lot of negative energy and feels the need to let it off on customers. I hope the owner sees this message and makes a change before this lady runs all of his customers away. Sad part is the food is actually really good but I will not return to this place ever.

Jamal J.

Yelp
Jamaican me crazy! Straight bombaclot delicious. I see now why all the good reviews. The quality of the food was very good. I have had different Jamaicans before in the area and this one definitely you can taste the quality difference. If Jamaicans is your thing this place is worth giving a taste test to. Who got the keys to my beamah!

Renee H.

Yelp
YEOOO this place SLAPPsssssSss. Most Jamaican food places are beat up, stingy with the oxtail, RUDE, stale cocobread and uneven proportions but this place? QUALITY. The food? QUALITY. The meat fell right off the bone, and I had enough to eat rice with. The location? QUALITY. It's super clean, plenty of parking, two bathrooms, located in a plaza right in front or behind depending on perspective from the bank. The service? QUALITY. The cashier even checked out bags to make SURE we had forks. The Coco bread? WENT BACKKKK!!!!!!!! It was perfectly baked, not stale, and super soft. It was well worth the money to be honest. Highly recommend! Two medium oxtail and two cocobread will cost you $26 and change.

Yelp
Like the option of ordering online. The jerk chicken sandwich was amazing. Toast app was not working for me so I had to use Grubhub which showed less menu options

Amanda S.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here today as we've been on a beef patty kick. Was so easy to order online and was ready in less than 15 minutes. Clean restaurant, very friendly staff. We ordered spicy beef and cheese patties which were delicious, so flaky. We also ordered coco bread as hubby had never had - warm and perfectly sweet. We also ordered a small jerk chicken wing order which came with 4 large wings and to our surprise rice and some cooked cabbage. The wings were OUT OF THIS WORLD. Not for the faint of heart when it comes to spice .. they definitely come around your mouth with a kick but they were amazing. We can't wait to go back and try more dishes. So happy to know good quality Jamaican food exists near us. Pictured is the wings and beef patties. Coco bread was gone too fast!

Iris M.

Yelp
Upon my visit the other day, I made an order. I checked my order & it was exactly what I wanted! The young lady, named Meraly was super helpful, sweet, friendly & just really made my day. I was having a bad day but when I arrived there she greeted me, & it followed with a nice conversation after. People like her, with great customer service, deserve recognition everyday! So props to her. Because of her infectious attitude & personality I will be coming back! Thank you so much!

T W.

Yelp
From my experience and I have been to many jamaican spots the small jerk chicken is overpriced 10.29 including the tax. and honestly it's not all that. I definitely wont be back. Anthony's in Manchester is much better tasting and better priced

Tara D.

Yelp
First time trying Jamaican and not disappointed! I came here for lunch with my boyfriend and tried the curry goat, jerk pork, and beef patty. All were delicious! Both the meats were very tender - falling apart with the touch of the fork. The sauces were spiced the perfect amount. The curry was my favorite. The service is friendly and the place is immaculately clean! They stuffed our bowls all the way to the top until it was pouring over the side. Great food, big portions, and fair prices! The pictures below are of the small portions for reference. UPDATE: We ate here again last weekend. This time ordering a chicken jerk sandwich and some mild beef patties. The jerk sandwich was amazing! Very flavorful and moist with very fresh bread. The patties were delicious as usual. We can't emphasize enough how nice the people are who work here! They let us try a carrot dumpling when we were checking out which was also delicious. We will definitely be getting one the next time we are back.

Casey P.

Yelp
Traveling nurse here from Florida state. I wanted something different for dinner and found this place on Grubhub. All I will say is WOW! I ordered the oxtails, which were tender, delicious, and seasoned just right. It made me miss my grandmother so much. That's the last time I had oxtails so delicious. The beef patties were delicious as well! That was the first but certainly not the last one I will have. Five stars!

Sho R.

Yelp
In any Jamaican place I go, I like the beef patty. What is so special about this place is they have mild, medium and spicy varieties of patty. I went with the spicy beef patty, and I loved it. I love the sorrel ginger bottled drink. Even better, this place has fresh sorrel ginger drink. That is something you should try. It has a nice spicy punch from the ginger. I got the jerk chicken and asked to make it spicy. It was really spicy which was what I wanted. The goat curry was good too. It was mildly spicy.

Ramsh K.

Yelp
I got the curry tofu and the vegetable stew which are both vegan! My partner got jerk chicken. Both of our meals came with rice/beans and cabbage. I haven't had much Jamaican food but I have tried a couple places in Bloomfield and this has been the best that I have had! Tofu never really appeals to me but their tofu curry is way different consistency and the tofu doesn't taste like paper it blends with the curry spice really well. For their tofu curry they use soft tofu. For their veggie stew they use firm tofu (which seems to taste like it has has been seasoned with jerk seasoning). I love that tofu too. I was eating my left overs at work then next day and I kept going back to the lunch room for more! Partner loves the jerk he said it is for sure better than the others he has tried. He also said the sauce had a good amount of spice (he was sniffling). The next day I tried their patties (in order from favorite to least favorite): split pea, lentils, veggie. I have never had split pea patties but they are my favorite now. I never really like veggie patties but the stuffing tastes like other veggie patties I have had with cabbage being the predominant flavor. For beef patties they have mild and spicy options I wish they would amp up the spice in their non meat patties as well! Partner had 2 beef patties but said he was full after the first. 4 patties for $13 not bad! Try their homemade Hot Sauce! I put it in my tofu curry and on my patties! It's great!! They are really kind employees and will let you sample curry/items prior to purchase!

Maggie K.

Yelp
A gem of a place in town, how could I realize this place to be around so late, well never late than never.... haha.... I dined in here with a friend for lunch, the place was not much crowded however a lot of people did "to go". A decent seating space with the most humble n friendly staff. Loved the positive attitude of the place. The food here has a wide selection from jerk chicken, curry goat/chicken, ox tail curry, chickpea / tofu for vegetarians... I tried a small box of chicken curry with white rice, brilliant flavors with amazing quantity, 7$ for a small box was not bad at all.... The chicken was so tender with mild spices, I bet kids will enjoy it too. The chickpea curry had loads of chickpea, pumpkin, carrots... good flavors here too. Will definitely try other stuffs (Pastries stuffed with chicken / fish / beef n sweet plantains) soon sometime.

Ashlyn P.

Yelp
Very good and amazing bread! I get the sandwich with jerk chicken and it's so yummy. We only get it once in a while because it is very heavy

Lixmarie W.

Yelp
This place is BOMB. We did it big!!! I ordered a large oxtail meal and my husband got the curry goat. The meat was so tender! We also got a beef patty and coco bread. Their bread was so fluffy and doughy! I would come back in a heart beat. The server which I believe is the owner was so nice and polite and even checked on us while we ate! The place is very clean even the rest room. You can tell they take care of business not only in food but cleanliness.

Emily C.

Yelp
Oh that feeling when you come out of Homegoods absolutely starving and see a bright banner in the distance, where the only word you can make out is "Jamaican." That's good enough for me - sold! After peeling off down the street, I made my way into the parking lot and joined the line right before the lunch rush. I only ordered two beef patties but I will say they're two of the best I've had in the area. The mild still had a nice kick (spicy was also given as an option but I am a weakling), and the meat was beautifully seasoned in its flaky pastry. So completely satisfying and I'll definitely be back for a full meal. It didn't even occur to me to check it out on Yelp til after demolishing my treats, but I will say these 4.5 stars are well deserved! Friendly staff, delicious menu, totally worth a trip.

Douglas H.

Yelp
This is the best Jamiacan food I have had I have had outside of Jamaica. Very generous with the cuts of meat in the curried goat, unlike some places that are mostly bone. Tons of great flavor, friendly staff, very clean location. I will definitely be back!

Heather R.

Yelp
Really good food. Fast service. Vegan/vegetarian options. Service could be friendlier.

Danielle L.

Yelp
Clean place, friendly staff, decent food and prices. Ordered a combo of oxtail/stew chicken and pepper steak/curry chicken. The cook on the oxtail was inconsistent as some parts were very tough, while others fell off the bone. Stew chicken was tasty, although the flavor reminded me of Korean BBQ. The cabbage was really the best part of the dish as it was cooked to perfection. While the pepper steak was tender, the sauce was a bit on the sweeter side. Curry chicken was fine too. Unfortunately the white rice that accompanied this meal was very mushy! I would try different items from this restaurant again, just wish the food had an added depth of flavor.

Daresa G.

Yelp
Just sampled two dishes at the Grand Opening: brown stew chicken and curried goat. After the first taste I asked myself did they just fly this food in from Jamaica??? The meat dishes were fresh and flavorful. The rice and peas, veggies were fresh and full of flavor as well. You will not be disappointed! Finally some tasty Jamaican food east of the CT River!!!

Brenden H.

Yelp
There jerk chicken Mac and cheese is to die for it's amazing!!! I've had multiple curry dishes and jerk dishes there amazing as well! And there patties are fresh and soft! Love it here I go weekly! Best Jamaican food around

Nicole M.

Yelp
Food is AWFUL!!! Ordered a stewed chicken and jerk pork. So sad to say I dislike both of them!! And for the price! 32$ for a large, small and 2 beef patties! Next time I'm going to East Htfd or Htfd. And please see my pic-the THIN layer of rice!!! Is a joke! Sorry I wasted the money and still have to find something for dinner.

Arthur B.

Yelp
LOVE THE JERK CHICKEN Amazing service and delish food. Great to go but also wonderful to eat in restaurant. The have daily meat pies that I always get as a nice complement to my main meal! Every time I'm in Vernon I hit this place up!

Linda M.

Yelp
Delicious food and friendly staff. The only issue is I am dieting and thought the stew chicken would be a good choice. I asked how it was prepared and she told me with vegetables and water. After I was done eating I looked on the "my fitness app" and saw 4 ounces of chicken was 600 cal. I was extremely surprised. I then asked another employee and they told me it's deep fried in oil. I would've liked to of known that before I ordered

Travis C.

Yelp
It's incredible to me that no one knows about this place. The portions are huge and the food is outstanding. The jerk pork is to die for. The owners and employees are truly sweet people that love what that do. They deserve all the business (and love) in the world. "You are awesome. One love."

Eric B.

Yelp
Tried out the new spot in a Rocky Hill and would definitely recommend. We had the jerk wings, pork, curry shrimp, and pepper steak. All very tasty and worth giving a try. Very friendly environment and will come back.
