Jambo Guest House

My partner and I stayed here for three nights. The air conditioning in the room was unexpected to us but greatly appreciated! The beds were large and comfortable. There is a bathroom which is shared with the neighbouring room. Breakfast was served in the downstairs each morning. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was only a short walk to anything we wanted or needed.

Pros: Very good location in the center of Stone Town with walkable distance to everything. We just turned up at the door without booking. No problem with the staff, we could even negotiate the price of the room. Also very polite when serving breakfast. They have free wi-fi in the rooms, fan and AC. The beds have a mosquito net around it. Bathrooms had hot water. Breakfast is included with coffee/tea, juice, bread with butter or jam, fruit and eggs (fried/scrambled/omelet). You can buy big bottles of water from the reception for 1000 tzs each. | |Cons: The standard price of 40$ per night is a bit too much for a sometimes noisy room with shared bathroom, a shower with very low pressure and it's very difficult to control the temperature. The bug nets also had small holes (some we managed to fix but that's not our job) and we killed 2 mosquitos that had quite a lot of blood in them. So we recommend negotiating the price.

We stayed on the first floor in a room with shared bathroom. The room and bathroom were very clean and were taken care of very often during the day. In four days we had twice our linen changed. Breakfast was decent including fresh juice. All people working there were professional, something difficult to find in Zanzibar ( from My experience). I would definitely recommend Jambo Guesthouse for a stay in Stone town!

Good value basic accommodation that is clean and conveniently located to restaurants and most tourist sites in Stone Town. The staff are friendly enough. Breakfast is nice. We also had a Spice tour organised by reception which was great.

Very reasonably priced hostel in this town full of expensive hotels. Airport pickup is needed & available; & is a bonus for this hostel. Manager was very friendly & helpful. Breakfast was included & bottled water was available on request. Credit Cards were also accepted. They have WIFI. A bit hard to find; but that is the fun of all of Stonetown.

Good stay, clean rooms and bathroom. Hot shower. Fair price. Friendly staff. Good location in the centre of Stone Town. They organise transports with professional staff for good touristic prices. Breakfast is very basic with eggs, fruit, bread, jam and butter but this is standard here.

Reading the reviews before i booked i was quite excited to stay here but when we arrived we saw straight away how run down and unkept it looked. We stayed in room 3 which had a clanky fan, an old air con unit and holes in the mosquito nets. No windows added to a very dingy dark room. The communal shower was ok as was the breakfast but glad we only stayed the one night.

If you are looking for a budget room in Stone Town, Jambo Guest House is okay. For $15 or $20 you get a bed with fan and a/c, WiFi, shared toilet and hot shower, and a simple breakfast. It's fairly clean and quiet and not too many mosquitoes. It's not the grand vizier's old residence but it's okay for the money.
