What an absolute delight! We came in unannounced and Dustin welcomed us right away with a smile and friendly banter. He and Holly were accommodating and friendly, the tasting included 1 white and 4 reds with pretty generous pours. It was a comfortable afternoon on the front porch on the couch, and Dustin came out to check on regularly, regaling us with fun stories and lots of laughs. We’ll never forget you, Cody Mustang!

Kate was phenomenal! We’ve visited James Cole many times but this was our favorite trip to date. Kate took the time and care to find our preferences and we learned a few new things along the way. Loved watching the hummingbirds in the garden and played some bocce too!

My husband and I had such a lovely relaxing wine tasting here. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about wine and the wines she poured for us. One was better than the next. We sat outside in a lovely garden area - not rushed - just the perfect amount of time. We loved loved that the winery is family owned! Nice to step away from the giant factory tasting setting. Highly recommend tasting here!

Just wow! I have had the privilege of visiting wineries in the US and parts of the world. I am a big Pinot Noir fan and collector. The 2019 Carmel Valley Pinot left me speechless. Such a signature Pinot Noir! This stands up against any Pinot I have ever had. Full stop. Patrick, our host, made the entire experience one that will stand out as one that I will always remember. He took the time to make us feel welcomed and special! One of the things that I appreciated is that he shared his knowledge of the wines without being pretentious or overbearing. He let us experience the wine first and then we discussed them. Speaking of the wines, the Rose' was delightful and is on par with best French Rose' wines. A must buy! The Chardonnay was spot on and was not over manipulated to make it buttery. Il Mostro was a lovely blend. Overall, every wine poured was very, very good to blow my mind excellent! James Cole is the charming, quaint, hospitable, beautiful, and amazing (wines) winery that you must visit! when in Napa!

I knew this was going to be special when our host Dustin told us to sit anywhere, and he would find us. The tasting was unstructured in the best possible way. We chose an amazing barrel room where the movie Casablanca was playing. Dustin pulled up a seat and asked about our wine preferences, our experiences, my tattoos and so on. His description of the wine named after the owners’ son included stories about the son’s summer working at the vineyard. Each of the wines was amazing. We had plenty of time to savor each one instead of being on a tight time schedule. For a place that flies a bit under the radar, it was one of our best experiences. Kudos to Dustin and the family at James Cole!!

Google
This is one of the best wineries in NAPA. Its a small family owned winery. It provides a very private and relaxing atmosphere. Mostly, their soft reds are OUTSTANDING ! One of the best in the region. And finally our wine executive was outstanding. She took the time to talk to us and explain a lot about the winery and the wines.

Google
We absolutely loved this winery. We had visited tank garage the day before. The wine at James Cole is amazing and the property is stunning. Patrick was our wine host at Tank Garage and told us about James Cole. Patrick was also our host at James Cole. He is amazing and provided amazing knowledge about both wineries and history. We all loved the pin ball machines at both locations.

Google
This winery has the coolest, classic James Dean kind of vibe serving up amazing wines! After having visited a few wineries during this second trip to Napa, I signed up for my first wine club at James Cole. One thing that’s super unique about their wine club is that you can pick what you want in your shipment and you’ll get changed for just that. We were hosted by Shelby and she is the absolute sweetest- loved our chill experience with her!! Thanks Shelby!!

Yelp
Fantastic experience. James Cole is a small family owned winery that offers the best of Napa Valley at a competitive price. Memberships start at only 2-3 bottles per release. Special thanks to Dustin for hosting!

Yelp
Fantastic experience with an excellent tasting portfolio coupled with an extremely knowledgeable hostess. Last time I came it was part wine cellar, part tank room, part secret movie cave, but there is some work going on, so alas, it is closed. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful morning/early afternoon for an outdoor glass (or 2). Their rosé is crisp and bright and goes down almost too easy. I was pleasantly surprised by the Chardonnay. I'm not typically a chard fan, but this non-French oak one was a winner. Wine aside, Kate was a delightful hostess. Such expansive knowledge coupled with neat trivia and tidbits made it a unique opportunity that I'm glad I could be here for. Highly recommend the Marls, but you can't go wrong with anything here. Something for every palate. Cheers!

Yelp
James Cole is hands down my favorite winery in Napa Valley. The wines are exceptional, and the tasting experience is always a pleasure. This small, family-owned vineyard has a welcoming charm, and trust me... you won't leave without a few bottles. It's just that good!

Yelp
Fantastic tasting experience with Dustin. Never disappoints! Great discussion and great service.

Yelp
Absolutely excellent. Gustavo was an amazing host. Gave us a fabulous explanation of the wine and chocolate combo (definitely recommend) as well and the history behind the winery (please give this man a raise). We really enjoyed the company and the homey feel of the vineyard. Will be back for the intimate family feel. Thank you for having us!

Yelp
This is my first yelp review as I find them to be typically of a negative nature.. I was recently on a trip to Napa with some dear friends. As we were driving to a scheduled tasting my husband saw the JamesCole sign. I was so excited (my son's name is James Cole) . We decided to stop by after our tasting to purchase some wine and merch.. YES... I am One of those moms. Long story short my son was taken to the emergency room and we were literally thousands of miles away in NAPA... We stopped at the vineyard and while at first the greeting was not welcoming, a very sweet blonde lady noticed this tearful mom and made a very stressful moment a bit less stressful. I ordered a bottle of wine a two coasters and headed to the airport.. the wine was amazing and the atmosphere was stunning. My husband and I are looking forward to a full experience on our next trip.

Yelp
If you haven't enjoyed James Cole wines yet, you must. The wines are great and the staff provides awesome customer service and attention to detail. A must in Napa!

Yelp
We were very excited by the 4.9 rating but came away disappointed. The grounds were nice, the staff were accommodating, but the wine was average. We chose the tasting menu from the highest tier and didn't find a single bottle we liked enough to take home. We go to Napa quite a bit and this rarely happens. They were good wines, but they lacked depth and were just not worth the price tags.

Yelp
Beautiful small winery with some hits and misses during our wine tasting. Having the wine tasting inside the barn was unique and the decor was quite interesting with a Rolling Stones pinball machine inside for customers to play with. Still a young winery that I can't wait to see grow into something spectacular in the coming years! The staff was super nice and awesome!

Yelp
This winery is a hidden gem. There are so many wineries in Napa that some of the smaller wineries get drowned out. Luckily, my man found this winery and made reservation. We had a pretty jam packed schedule but wine tasting was something we definitely wanted to do during our weekend in Napa. It was one of the best wine tasting experiences I have had, for both pre and post covid. Hands down, of one of the best until someone beats them out. Check in station was very organized. You have hand sanitizer on the check in table. In addition, they have an outdoor sink for washing and sanitizing. After check in, they have picnic/cabana areas for each reserved party. In each picnic area, you have a small table supplied with bottled water and hand sanitizer. We paid 30$ each for tasting of 4 wines. The tasting price was very reasonably priced, much better than other vineyards around the area. First wine was Rose, second was a red Mostros, third was Malbec, fourth was a Cab. We also got a fifth tasting on the house. The service was impeccable. The staff was just so friendly, personable and knowledgable. Sam was our first host and she was a great story teller. The gentleman with the beard was our second host, he was such an engaging host. Both were wonderful. I'm not a big wine person but hands down, great wine. The rose was smooth and crisp. It was so easy to drink, a little too easy to drink. We came on Saturday and decided to come back on Sunday, last round before the road and even got 4 bottles before we left. I highly recommend this place. It will not disappoint!

Yelp
Shout out to Rosie for an amazing experience. Picture this: super bowl Sunday, quiet roads, we roll up past trefethen, and around to a charming set of buildings with beautiful patio, with seemingly only one car in the parking lot. We parked and check in with a very friendly wine expert- Rosie- and she tells us to sit anywhere- we choose comfy chairs partially protected from the sun (in February!). Birds are chirping and when we sit down another couple checks in and sits in another area of the patio, we still have great privacy. We got the Valentine's tasting with chocolate truffle pairing. The chocolate came in a charming velvet box. Rosie, part tasting specialist/part wine maker, comes by with a lovely complex tropical rosé. Loved learning fun facts about the winery and detailed descriptions of the wines and harvests. My favorite was the Privado, a light yet complex mouth feel. The umbral cab was also fantastic. Absolutely charming. There was bocce ball and seating areas for small groups- we could have really spent the day there and were sad to leave for our lunch reservation!

Yelp
James and Colleen and their team are fantastic. Incredible wines and service in a beautiful, unforgettable setting.

Yelp
Let me start by saying I'm not a "wino", but I do like excellent wines. I had the distinct pleasure of visiting James Cole Winery with some close friends and was amazed with the wine and top notch service. We had Jonathan serving us and he's a true professional. The property is on the Silverado Trail but if you're not paying attention you will drive right by it. Fortunately that a great thing, because most people will miss this gem. Lastly let me say the property is "Done Right". I can't wait to return for another great experience.

Yelp
Dustin is a gem - go there just for him and drink killer wine as a bonus. We love the Tyson and were soooo disappointed because it was sold out. Good news, we resided the library and got some vintage bottles. The malbec is fantastic, as was the tre' noir and The Night. These are silky smooth red blends that leave your mouth watering for more. Dustin is full of stories and jokes, cool cars, and full of wisdom. This place is a blast and the wine is fantastic. Put it on your list.

Yelp
First time visited based on the high reviews & recommendations. It did not disappoint. The views were breathtaking. Beautiful greenery, trees and decor. Our sommelier did a great job, explained each wine including interesting facts about each one. He was very nice & professional. Downside is that with Covid they stopped serving food. But a charcuterie was available upon request. Now on to the best part, the wine. I gotta say the Malbec wine was soooo good, we ended up taking a bottle home. All the other red wines were perfect as well. This was a great experience & I highly recommend it.

Yelp
WOW! We loved this spot during our family visit to Napa. It's a local family that only sells at the vineyard itself. Jim was our host and really nice. He provided detailed stories to each wine we tasted and we had a difficult time choosing our favorite amongst the tasting. It was a real treat to be seated at our group cabana. It was lovely and highly recommend.
google avatar

Inga W.

Yelp
We loved this place! Great atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and great reds! I love family-owned wineries, and there aren't that many left, so it's an added bonus to support them. We sat outside in really comfy chairs, had views of the mountains, enjoyed a tasting of reds and a rose, it wasn't rushed and was very relaxing. The tasting was $45 per person, but for every bottle purchased they removed the tasting fee.

Dawn U.

Yelp
Incredible winery with a beautiful view. Dustin was a wonderful and gracious host and we could not have enjoyed our visit more. Truly a great stop. Couldn't recommend James Cole Winery more. The rose is amazing!!!

Yelp
We had a great experience at James Cole. It's super chill and has a nice vibe with both outdoor and indoor seating. Kyle was our host and he went above and beyond to make our experience worthy of a review. He's down to earth, knowledgeable and just a nice guy. We wanted to buy a couple of bottles (they will comp your tasting if you buy a bottle- not all wineries do that) and he let us have second tries to help us figure out what we wanted. If you like reds, this is the place to go. They were all very good but I ended up splurging on the 2010 which was a bonus tasting. We started with a rose that was also very good. This place is very unpretentious and it's clear that the people at James Cole just want you to relax and enjoy their wines.

Yelp
Great experience! They took us in on short notice during a very busy weekend! Loved the wines, reasonably priced and the grounds were beautiful. Sam was awesome!
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Fabulous hidden gem! Their wines are amazing, and Kate was great at explaining the history and nuances. They specialize in reds; however, their chardonnay is one of my favorite whites. Been here twice now and will certainly come back as we joined their wine club.
google avatar

Arielle Y.

Yelp
Kyle was an amazing host and took care of all our needs. He made our wine tasting experience so much fun and we thoroughly enjoyed each and every tasting. We look forward to coming back to James Cole on our next Napa trip!

Yelp
I have visited James Cole twice, once pre-Covid and once post-Covid. James Cole is my favorite winery in all of Napa and I have visited a lot during my eight visits. Which is why I am a member of their wine club. During my first visit in Napa, I learned that I should avoid touristy big name wineries and James Cole is neither. They basically do not sell their wines anywhere else, which is usually a sign that they are not overly commercialized and just in it to make money. During my last visit on 07/24, I was actually 30 minutes late because I totally got my reservation time wrong. Our host was so nice about it and still let us have our tasting. In addition, she was super dog friendly, which is a major plus for me. She even gave our dogs some treats. We were seated at a table with a cover to block out the sun, which was really nice. Having dogs with us, I always like to be a bit secluded and we totally were here. Their Covid protocols are great. They have a little table set up in front of our seating area. We would go and retrieve our wine from the table and put the empty glasses back to get our next wine. There was also hand sanitizer on the table. The last time I visited we had the option of choosing different tastings but this time there was only one. I think most places are doing this because they do not want to open too many bottles, which is totally understandable. I usually only like red wines but found their white wines to be great as well. Last time I purchased their umbral and another cab which I don't remember the name of. Their umbral cab is top notch and one of my favorite cabs. This time I left with two bottles of Il Mostro, which were my favs this time. I also joined the wine club and will definitely get the umbral delivered since I ran out already. I love how I can create an account and customize which bottles of wine I would like to get. I cannot wait to come back and am so excited to be part of their wine club now.

Yelp
This is the third time that I've been to this boutique winery. Dustin Moon is the tasting room manager and he knows his wines. He is also a very engaging and a humorous guy! The wines are fabulous, especially the Malbec! Because it is a small winery, reservations should be made. While the '59 Corvette is a classic (inside the tank room), the wines with Dustin narrating them is worth your time. No pretension, just a relaxed and enjoyable experience!
google avatar

Kimquyen L.

Yelp
Appointments are required here since its a small family owned & small production winery. They're mostly known for their reds here but I found the chardonnay was very well balanced & fruity. Signature collection wine tasting ($30 per taster - waived with 1 bottle purchase) Faves (from most to least): Chardonnay 2013 Malbec 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Petite Verdot Ice wine (made in Canada) 2013 Il Mostro Great chill sit back relaxed ambiance & dog friendly place too. Loved all of the wines in the wine tasting & none of the wines were bad at all. This is a dog friendly winery too.

Eleni S.

Yelp
Rosie was amazing!! Service recovery was great! Although they ruined the rest of our day....Someone called from James Cole to our next destination, Beringer, and advised we were "tipsy," Beringer turned us away even though we had reservations. However when we called James Cole they apologized and refunded our money. Great service and ambiance! Thank you to Rosie for a fun day!

Yelp
Kyle was an amazing host. Everyone in our group loved the wine, but more importantly the experience was so memorable

Roberta D.

Yelp
I visited eight wineries in Napa on my most recent trip. Some of them charged over $200 for a bottle of fantastic Cabernet, but the tasting experiences didn't always have the same appeal. Many of the experiences were apathetic and/or felt very corporate. James Cole was the exception. We finished our tasting at Darioush, (located just a few minutes South on the trail), earlier than planned and had about an hour before our next appointment, so we called James Cole and asked if they had time to squeeze us in for a splash. We spoke to Kyle who was very welcoming and friendly. He told us to stop by. Kyle was super friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely seemed happy to serve us. He quickly established a warm rapport and became the benchmark for the rest of our trip. No other wine educator could compete with his hospitality. We left with a case and a half of wine and stopped in again on our way out of town a few days later and picked up a few more bottles to give as gifts. We met two more employees on our return trip. They were just as welcoming and friendly, so whoever does the hiring at James Cole knows how to find people that understand hospitality. Well done! They win the prize for the best all around service!
google avatar

Jina L.

Yelp
We had the best time at this winery. This winery produces a small amount of wine every year and every bottle is high quality. While the wine was amazing, our host, Jim, was even more phenomenal. He was kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly witty. We were laughing the entire one and half hours we were there for tasting. We highly recommend this place and we are looking forward to going back already.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
A hidden gem in Napa. Not only are these artisanal wines terrific, they span the spectrum of reds - zin, malbec and cab and cab blends. There is always something new on the menu - most recently "Mud's" cabernet named after the winemakers grandma. A full bodied and silky smooth effort, perfect for a steak dinner, or to impress your friends. Wines are sold only direct from the winery, and can be sampled in the cozy tasting room. Lisa will assure your visit is a memorable one!

Andrew L.

Yelp
Had a private tasting for 6 here and our server was visibly intoxicated, slurring words, pouring wine all over the table, splashed wine on two people in our party - staining a pair of designer pants. No acknowledgement that she (the server) had done anything wrong. Just an absolute sh*t show. Just go yourselves a favor and go somewhere else.

Dylan G.

Yelp
My stunning girlfriend and I visited the James Cole Winery and we had an incredible time. The setting was perfect, and our host Max was sooo kind and funny, he made a huge positive impact on our entire trip. We are missing him and the beautiful winery already.

Ginger G.

Yelp
Loved this winery! The ambiance was laid back with a beautiful landscape. The wine was delicious, we're very excited to come back soon. Kyle and Dustin were wonderful, knowledgeable hosts. Special shout out to Todd and Greg!

Yelp
First time wine tasting in Napa Valley. We stopped at the James Come Winery and it didn't disappoint. The staff was kind, knowledgeable, courteous and professional. Great wines, great atmosphere. Can't wait to stop by again.
google avatar

Keli M.

Yelp
We visited James Cole on our Honeymoon. It is a small winery, but the house is beautiful. We were the first appointment of the Day. Our tasting was with Nick, a super chill bearded guy who wears many hats at the wineries. He was super knowledgeable, and gave us a lot of good insight on James Cole, and the Napa Valley in general. He did not rush us, and was very welcoming. The tasting is $30. They mostly have reds, but Nick did pour me a taste of their Chardonnay, which was fruity and light. My husband did most of the tasting, and really enjoyed the wine. We learned a lot about the owners, and the story behind their logo and how they started the winery. They are a couple, and their story was very similar to ours. Super cool. There was also a super cute winery dog who greeted us. Definitely make an appointment here. It was a great overall experience!
google avatar

Tristan Z.

Yelp
Had a great tasting, hosted by Jonathan. Jonathan had a great personality and was very fun to talk to, as well as knowledgable about the wines. Mostly reds to drink here - malbec, cabernet sauvignon, and more - and all were quite tasty. Much smaller than many of the big name wineries as it's owned by a couple (James and Cole), which is a nice compared to the larger more corporate ones that are in the area. Grounds were very peaceful and beautiful. We sat outside, but there was a nice large table private tasting room inside that looked great as well. Will be back!

Michael A.

Yelp
The people there are not professionals. They give the wrong information. Honestly I wish I can give them zero stars. Trust me on this this is not a a place you need to visit.
google avatar

Alena D.

Yelp
Visited this winery without a reservation, thirty minutes before they closed. We popped in to ask if they would allow us to purchase a bottle or glass of wine and we were greeted with the most friendly staff that were attentive from start to finish. We tasted a few wines and left with a few bottles. The wine was delicious and the staff was amazing. Will definitely be back and would recommend this winery when visiting the area!

Maro K.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible. Not even sure what to begin with, we had our concierge set this up and saw the good reviews. So we thought why not. We walked in, the guy poured us a glass of wine each gave us a paper and pointed to the table for us to sit at. There was 3 other groups, might I add they were a little older (we are a young couple ) We saw the 2 host talk to the other groups and give them service and sat there for 15 min without any service. Extremely disappointed of the discrimination of the situation we came to Napa to taste and BUY wine. But not even being acknowledge is... amazing ..
google avatar

Remy B.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this winery: great wine, very intimate compared to many Napa wineries, beautiful decor and great service. Pro-tip: this place is reservation-only, so make sure you make one! I went with my boyfriend and friend on a Saturday morning, and we were given the option of picking where to sit since we were the first ones there. We chose to sit outside - the scenery is amazing and it's very cozy out there with comfortable seating. They also have heaters set up! The wine was spectacular. I'm a big red wine fan, so I really enjoyed it. I started off with the rose and then went into the 4 wines of the day. The rose was not too sweet, so I loved it. But, my favorite was the Cab. I actually ended up buying that one! It was bold with a hint of sweetness. I highly recommend it. I also really enjoyed talking with our server, Dustin. He had some great stories and made the experience worth it. He also had some great recommendations of wineries that I will definitely start to go through. The dog of the winery is also a great plus :) I would highly recommend this place!

Pat S.

Yelp
Dustin was the best server. Super personable, but also appreciated our space on a clam Sunday. His service was perfect - perfectly balanced not bothering us so we could relax but also gave super fast service the minute we were ready for our next pour. Ignore the two bad reviews from today (they were difficult customers), the service here was fantastic. I'd recommend coming here just for Dustin - after laughing at the bad customers together, we learned he's practically a stand up comedian! I will admit we didn't love the wine, but Dustin deserves 5 stars and the service was great.

Adam A.

Yelp
Amazing wine and amazing people. Kyle was a great host. I highly recommend this winery
google avatar

Jo M.

Yelp
Had an amazing experience here. Our tasting associate, who is also the tasting room manager, was Dustin. He's awesome, gave us an amazing experience and taught us so much! The wine here is Devine and the hospitality is quality
google avatar

Adrea P.

Yelp
This winery was recommended by a friend and he totally delivered. The wines were some of the best I've had. Tim (just kidding, JIM) was wonderful. He took his time with us and was easy to talk to. We will definitely be back and I recommend these wines to anyone visiting the area.
google avatar

Chelsey M.

Yelp
Great experience! Small place and ideal to kick off our 3 day marathon of wineries. Jim was awesome to chat with and gave us some solid education about the wine. What was also fantastic was the no judgement zone; if you didn't like something it was okay. Overall just a great time, we've already recommended to our friends in the area!
google avatar

Shiho F.

Yelp
Sexy wines, classy and stylin' little tasting room with a nice little patio (vino Vespa too!). Wines were killer but a bit too pricey for me even after an inter-winery/industry discount (I tagged along with chefs and a sommelier). What made this place fun young and hip (besides the sexy sculpture aka the brand which looks like a cow skull but really is a human bent over?) is the lady that runs the tasting room. Her vibrant fresh energy makes the tasting room worth visiting. If you can afford the wines, then more power to you. They would be great at a formal dinner or celebration. I would have loved to buy a couple to put down for "a while" and enjoy in the near future. I miss the joy of collecting wine for shits and giggles.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
If you are in Napa and love red wine, I highly recommend stopping at James Cole. The property is beautiful and the wine speaks for itself. If you have the chance, ask for Dustin - he knows his wines really well and is so entertaining! I wish I could give James Cole more than 5 stars because we really enjoyed our experience!
google avatar

Julia Y.

Yelp
This was the third stop during a wine tasting trip I did with D. and his mom and it was our favorite. The ambiance was warm (in spirits and in temperature), cozy, and welcoming. We sat outside on their patio chairs with our host, Nick, and started with some chardonnay and quickly moved to the reds. Boy, were their reds **amazing**. I adored all of them. They were all different from one another, and the progression of the tasting made a lot of sense. I ended up buying one of their reserves (a blend, but a Zinfandel-heavy one). It was pricey (hence, the $$$ here!) but I know worth sharing during a special occasion. I intend on saving that one for a good day. We also talked with Dustin, who was recommended by my friend Remy B. Needless to say, we were lucky that there was no one else here on that Monday afternoon so we could enjoy both Nick and Dustin's company and expertise. They told us about the history of Napa, such as the effects of the Earthquake of 1989 and recent November 2017 fires. I will of course be recommending James Cole to friends looking for great recommendations in the area. And, I hope to be back another time. :)

Yelp
Amazing wine! We happened to be driving around this area, and decided to give them a call to see if they had any available appointment. The service was great, and the wine was even better.
