So first I want to say after all the things we heard and knowing the cost ahead of time, we were expecting a little more “blow me away” than what we experienced. The atmosphere could have been better had the vent hood been running a little higher. Certain dishes caused a great deal of smoke in the restaurant and each time it was prepared my sinuses flared and I couldn’t breath through my nose anymore and just before we left I started coughing from the last batch of smoke. So we both ordered a drink to start out. I had a split rose champagne and he tried the Starmont. The bread was tasty and the butter that we have heard so much about was also delicious. Wish we had kept the butter on the table to add to our bread that came with the 1st course. My boyfriend said he wished he had ordered beer to start and wine with the steak too. Course 1:We both had the Duck Rillettes, it was good but was missing something. I tried adding little slices of the mini pickles that came with it but again was missing something and we also felt we could have just ordered 1 and shared. We thought adding the butter to the little slices of toast would have helped it, not that the duck wasn’t flavorful because it was, it just was missing something like a light sauce with the toast. Course 2: I had the Coquilles St. Jacques or the scallops. They were very tasty and the sauce was delicious. I couldn’t figure out if the hint of seasoning/spice was from the sauce or the scallops themselves. I was surprised by the mushrooms in the sauce as I don’t really like them and would like to have known about them from the menu’s description. I ended up picking most of them out. I also couldn’t eat the broccoli because they were overly salted. Seemed like the mini florets had been rolled in salt after being cooked. He ordered the A5 Wagyu 8 oz filet cooked med. This was a mystery to us because we started to think he may have gotten the wrong steak as the Chef did call out for someone to run food quickly and maybe as they handed out the steaks around the restaurant they may have been mixed up as one lady did have to wait some time for her steak to come out. The sides were tasty as the potato wedges were perfectly cooked and tasted delicious in my leftover sauce from my scallops. The asparagus was tender as well. The steak on the other hand for a filet had way too much fat and seemed like it may have been the ribeye but definitely wasn’t 16 oz as advertised on the menu. The flavor from the beef tallow and bone marrow was delicious and definitely added some flavor but the steak was a little over cooked. Due to the size and shape of steak and cooked temp (med well) made us feel like it definitely wasn’t the correct cut of meat ordered. A little disappointed as his hopes were high for trying an A5 Wagyu and said he has had better steak at another local restaurant in the Sunset, LA area. I wished I had taken a photo of this item but missed it. Course 3: another course we felt like we could have shared as we were very full at this point. I had the Strawberry Pavlova and he had the Dark Chocolate Crème Brûlée. The strawberry pavlova was okay, strawberries were very fresh and tasty but we both thought the meringue round was a little odd texture and flavor and we didn’t love it. For the crème brûlée we both felt it could have been better too. The sugar had not been toasted to glass before serving and the “brownie” was the soft served brownie bites from Target. (We saw the box in the dish area and the workers snacking on them during the meal) the chocolate cream was very rich and I only had a bite as it was more than enough. He said the brownie bite was fresh and very soft. Over all the meal did take quite some time to be prepared and go out and we felt like some things could have been prepared before to make things go more smoothly and quickly. We arrived at 6:38pm and departed at 10:05. We did enjoy our server, he was knowledgeable of the restaurant’s history and gave good advice. He was also very attentive to our table. Our bill came out to be $305 before the tip.

This was our second visit and first time sitting inside. The whole experience is just that - an experience! It’s not quick dining but wanted for nothing. Don’t be in a hurry - everyone is cooked to order so if it takes 45-60 minutes then that’s what it takes. The food is amazing, unlike anything else available around here. Eating out can be pricey but this felt like it was actually worth it. It’s very romantic and unique, it’s becoming our special occasion location. Being inside this time was very intimate as the tables are close together. We didn’t hear anything unpleasant from the kitchen, and I think next time we may sit where we can watch the chef. If the weather allows, sitting in the courtyard is also an excellent experience. Overall, we really enjoy Jane’s. The people who didn’t maybe didn’t know what to expect. Slow down, savor the cuisine and the company, and enjoy.

Jane’s has become our ‘go-to’ spot for special evenings. We celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and take all of our family and friends here. Every detail, from the warm, polished service to the elegant atmosphere, sets the tone for a truly elevated dining experience. On our recent visit the food was nothing short of exceptional. Each dish was plated like a piece of art and balanced with bold yet refined flavors. You could taste the chef’s creativity and commitment to quality in every bite. The pacing between courses was perfect, allowing enough time to savor without ever feeling rushed. The staff deserves special praise. They were knowledgeable, attentive without hovering, and genuinely passionate about the menu. Their wine pairing recommendations elevated the entire meal and showcased an impressive understanding of flavor and presentation. By the time dessert arrived, it was clear this restaurant doesn’t just serve food, it delivers an experience. Luxurious, memorable, and meticulously executed from start to finish. This is the type of place you find yourself thinking about long after the meal is over. Highly recommend for anyone looking to celebrate, impress, or simply indulge in an extraordinary night out.

Absolutely exquisite dinner! First place I’ve been to in Lafayette and I am so happy I drove by. The food was extremely thoughtful, while creating a modern take on traditional French cuisine. The soup I had was just incredible - the most comforting and flavorful starter. It was incredibly smooth, the texture was so admirable. The lamb shake was perfect, falling off the bone and massive in size - you could share it. The sauce was the perfect amount of salty for the pairing potatoes and ratatouille. The dessert also, so comforting and the perfect end. Not too sweet and everything on the dish paired so perfect together. The bread at the beginning of the meal is also perfect - the best butter ever. Cheers to Hannah - she is fantastic. I very much will be back! (To note - the menu is PERFECT for the winter season, it was like a hug)

Excellent dining experience. Food was fresh and delicious. Our waitress was phenomenal. Atmosphere impeccable. Definitely recommend.

Chef, We came to Jane's this evening to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The food was excellent. Everything else was not. Your loud, harsh treatment of the staff was clearly audible in the dining room the entire evening. What should have been a celebratory night felt stressful and uncomfortable. The food deserves better than an environment like that. So do your guests and your staff. Do better. To anyone interested in dining here- come for the food- I suggest sitting outside.

Ok. I don’t know how else to put it so here goes. THIS WAS THE WORST DINNING EXPERIENCE MY WIFE AND I HAVE EVER HAD!!! We have been there twice before. The first time about a year ago, everything was great. Service, food, atmosphere were all on point. About 6 months later we brought a couple with us because we told them how great it was. Well the food was a little off but we said that everyone can have an off night, giving it the benefit of the doubt. Well last night my wife and I went back, willing to give Jane’s another try. The experience was horrible. The waiter was great, but the chef, who is the owner, was terrible. He was loud and obnoxious, belittling his staff in front of everyone, it’s an open kitchen. We ordered everything at once. Our soup and salad took over an hour to come out and our entrees never came out. After 2 hours I asked for the check, paid for our bottle of wine and soup and salad, and left very hungry and very disappointed. We got there at 8 and left after 10 so it was not very crowded at all. Needless to say we will not be going back. There is definitely something going with the chef……

Google
We really had an absolutely awful time here (first and only time trying this place). We made a reservation here for our anniversary dinner, for a time that was pretty much right when they opened for the evening. When we arrived, there was only one other table seated, although it was a larger party (11 people). You order your whole meal (3 courses) up front when you get here. Long story short, it took our appetizer 1 hour and 40 mins to come out. We ended up getting the check for what we ate/drank at 2 hours and 20 minutes because we still didn’t have our entrees yet, even though the waiter kept telling us they were “coming out soon”. The waiter apologized and said they usually don’t take such large parties (referring to the party of 11), but we were literally the SECOND table to be sat that night and they just straight up didn’t start cooking our food until the other table was done with their second course, even though we were there at the time of our reservation. A party of 11, especially when it’s the only table they’re working on, shouldn’t completely shut down a restaurant. I can’t even imagine how long other parties that were sat after us were there that night. You’d think they’d offer us some free bread, or something to snack on while we waited, but no. The waiter just kept stringing us along in 20/30 minute increments saying our food would be out soon. To make matters worse, I’m pregnant (which the waiter knew) and I was starting to get nauseous because I hadn’t eaten enough. The decor and feel of the place is nice with a couple exceptions. If you sit inside, the kitchen is in full display and looked like it would be very loud and distracting during your dinner. Sitting in the courtyard was nice, except for some reason their walk-in freezer is out there, so the whole night you see the kitchen staff running in and out of it with ingredients. The appetizers were okay. My husband liked his foie gras but I didn’t care for my duck appetizer, it was like a cold, fatty tuna salad (but with duck), and sort of reminded me of cat food. Overall, will never be returning to this place. We ended up going to Ruffino’s instead where we were treated absolutely WONDERFULLY. Overall, steer clear of Jane’s. It’s incredibly expensive, the food we did get was just okay, and they have very serious kitchen coordination issues. And especially avoid if it’s a special day for you, they really will ruin your whole evening.

Yelp
Sigh. What has happened at Jane's? It was great 3 years ago when we first arrived in Lafayette. Now...read on: 1. Service. Very slow and there was only one other table seated. 30 mins for the bread course to arrive. 40 mins for the Starters. 1hour 30 mins for the main course to arrive. One Chef and two assistants from what we could see. 2.Food quality and presentation: better than service. Fois Gras was well presented and the clear winner of the service. Dover sole portion quite small, crab meat overly buttery. Crab flavor hard to detect over the butter. For the price point, a table side filet of the whole fish would have nailed it. My wife had the roasted quail. Meh. Skin not browned and crispy but undercooked and gelatinous. Lacquered would have been a winner but alas, it was just blah. 2 hours in and only two courses later we asked for the dessert (chocolate crème brûlée) to take away. My mistake. What was I thinking? It has to be served in a shallow ramekin. The better part of valor would have been for the staff to let us know that it is not possible as a "to-go" item as the presentation will be ruined. See photo. It appears that this restaurant is "on the ropes" and is not what it used to be. For a Saturday night, every table should be filled. Speaks volumes. Fly to Dallas for fine dining. This is not it. Sorry guys. Brutal I know but the restaurant business is just that.

Yelp
Jane's French Cuisine creates classic French dishes with a twist from Chef Will Baxter. The service here is excellent. The ambience inside the restaurant gave a feel as if you're in a French country side restaurant with the bustling sounds of the chef and sous chef working hard to execute every dish to perfection. The courtyard outside gave a dark, quiet and romantic feel. Do not get in a rush as the three course experience will endure for about two and one half hours. My party found it was well worth the wait as the execution of each dish was an amazing experience and I would say perfection in every bite. If one wants to try classical French cuisine with a different vision, a different twist, please check out this gem.

Yelp
It was ok. The seafood dishes were great. Kitchen noises where they sat us was a little loud so that stole the romance factor a little bit. The wagyu must have been cooked in bacon grease or a ton of butter; which is disappointing because it was a beautiful piece of meat, only two bites were taken. Couldn't stomach the rest. Salmon was great!!!! The dark chocolate dessert was beautifully made and tasted delicious. The French pastry was not a fluffy pastry we expected but it still tasted pretty great. It was just ok.

Yelp
Went to Jane's for dinner Sat 12/15/2024. I have eaten here 4 other times and the food was delicious. It has always been a place to sit and relax. This night however not so. There was one server who greeted us and sat us. She was the only server. The kitchen had 2 sous chefs along with the chef owner. We have experienced him have many rants at his staff in the past this night was no different. The one server was responsible for what looked like 10 tables. One couple clearly wanted to leave but couldn't because they were waiting on the bill. They were still there when we left. As she was providing them with the check, the chef is calling her to run food. Why didn't he run the food? Taking orders, bringing drinks, brining food, clearing tables, packing food to go and finalizing the tables bill. We sat for 25 min without any service-I do not blame the server-it is a lot for one person. I went to speak with her and she was behind a screen crying apologizing. I was not mad at her and tried to reassure her. I asked if we left was I going to be charged a no show fee on the credit card that I was required to provide when I made the reservation. She said no because I showed. I left a tip on the table and left. Today 12/16 I see 2 charges for $90=$180 on my credit card. Unbelievable I would not recommend Jane's-great food and atmosphere-but service and chef owner make the experience unpleasant. Anne V

Yelp
While the food is delicious and the presentation exceptional, I must make a request to management that there be a conversation with the Chef. The last three times I've dined here, There's been audible, yelling and beratement of staff by the chef which is completely unprofessional and ruins the ambiance of an otherwise lovely meal. I understand that restaurant businesses are stressful but publicly scolding and embarrassing staff is unacceptable. Full stop. My anniversary dinner was ruined last night

Yelp
My family had been traveling for a week through Texas and Louisiana when we saw Jane's. Through all our travel this was the best food we have experienced. My sister and I loved the snow crab and boiled shrimp! And my mom, who generally is very picky and only likes some things, raved about the chicken fettuccine. Best experience I've had in a very long time and the price was very reasonable for the amount of food!

Yelp
INCREDIBLE food, service and ambiance. I feel like this place is a bit of a secret but I can't stay silent. I've never heard of Jane's until this week and I had to give it a try. We went on a Saturday night and it was relatively slow. The vibe here is well thought out, but small family type of business. There's one server, one chef, and a sous chef. That's it! Our waiter managed all the tables with fínese and we didnt have a single complaint. Don't expect a fast dinner. It's 3 courses and you order all at once from a small menu. I don't think you could go wrong with anything but we had the parmigiana soup and salad to start, pheasant pot pie (highly recommended), and ended with chocolate créeme brûlée and Mille something. Idk whatnot was called, but it was really good. *Please visit so this restaurant survives!!!* If you're a Ruffinos, Charley Gs, or Vestal kind of gal, you're going to LOVE this one.

Yelp
Although we are blessed with a plethora of quality Cajun and French influenced restaurants in the Acadiana region, there hasn't been a true French option until now. Fortunately, Jane's does not disappoint. The restaurant is located in a former home and retains the quirkiness and charm of the former owner while incorporating a modern open kitchen design. Antiques and knick knacks contribute to the homey vibe while white table clothes and cut crystal champagne flutes lend an air of worldly opulence. Our party of four was seated in a room off of the main dining room that was semi-private, and it felt like a very special space. The courtyard is lovely and I look forward to dining outdoors on a future visit. Our group sampled three of the four appetizers, two of the three entrees, and two of the three desserts. I understand that the small menu is expected to change periodically, and while the choices were limited, we found that there was something available to please everyone in our party. Appetizers included Osetra caviar with traditional accoutrements, which is available nowhere else in town! The setup was beautiful, the portion size was generous, and the quality was excellent. Likewise, the foie gras torchon was a very large portion and perfectly executed. This is another preparation I haven't see elsewhere locally but it's one of my favorites so I'm thrilled to see it on any menu. Finally, our friends said the white asparagus with pasta was outstanding, and this is yet another ingredient we usually don't have access to in our area. For entrees, two of us chose the trotter and two the bouillabaisse. The trotter was a shredded pork cake which was pan fried and plated with an herb sauce. The portion included three cakes, and I should have stopped at two but it was so good that I finished the third. The bouillabaisse included a huge piece of perfectly seared cod as well as clams, mussels, and shrimp in an incredibly flavorful lobster broth. The slice of toasted bread that came with it was slathered with rouille, which was intensely flavorful and delicious when soaked in the broth. Even though everyone was pretty stuffed, we managed to share two deserts. We had the salted caramel chocolate tart, which was dense and intense, as well as the almond honey crisp tart, which was lighter and delicious. Throughout the meal, we sampled several wines by the glass. The waiter was knowledgeable of the wine list and was helpful with pairing suggestions. The service was the perfect balance of attentive but not overbearing. Our drinks were never empty and I never found myself looking for our server. The food timing was perhaps a little slow between courses, but we didn't mind as we had great company. I think this will become one of our regular haunts. We loved it!

Yelp
October 2020; Mask worn by all restaurant employees. Quiet, romantic environment. Decorated simply with low lighting and French music playing softly in the background. Both indoor and outdoor seating offered. White table cloths. Business casual attire. Small, open kitchen inside, where you can watch the chefs cook. Food was good but small portions. Food took a while to cook, as a typical European dining experience would be. Mother got a white wine and I got a red. Fresh bread, made by the chef this AM. Butter imported from Normandy. Fantastic. We love carbs! Chicken and fish entrees were ordered. Waiter brought the whole rotisserie chicken out for me to look at and asked if I wanted it cut up. I said yes, however the portion they brought me was not the whole chicken. Next time, I will tell them not to cut up chicken. Potato soufflé was soft and fluffy. Mothers seared black Cod fish was good but the potatoes and veggies in the broth were full of flavor and outstanding. We were both not completely full after our meals, so we ordered the apple crisp, which was good. Not warm but the caramel was delicious. Ambiance: 10/10 Food: 7-8/10 Food presentation: 10/10 Service: 9/10 Be prepared to CHILL people. Farm to table/Fresh food takes time to grow, cook and care for. You get what you pay for! Get yourself a few glasses of wine and enjoy the slower things in life...Like my boomer mother! We were both practicing our patience tonight ;)

Yelp
Intimate setting, you can see the chef and staff work, so yes, you can hear the fussing and stuff too. It can get pretty hectic in there, we witnessed it, but we thought it was funny, and felt like Hell's Kitchen. Overall, service was very good and food was also good. We had the following: -Caviar -Escargot -Foie Gras Terrine -Filet w/ Black Truffles -Duck Food was good, our favorite was definitely the caviar since it had all the accompaniments. The toast points were on point. Check @eatinglafayette on Instagram and Facebook for more Lafayette food things!

Yelp
The service is incredible. The meal was perfectly spaced out. You can tell the chef puts a lot of care to selecting each menu item. Every bite is perfect. The cheese plate is amazing, the escargot is delicious and the off menu steak blew me away. It was topped with seared fois gras, black truffle shavings and a red wine reduction sauce. It was perfectly cooked and crafted. Dare I say it was probably the best meal I've had in Lafayette. This was our fourth time at Jane's. The menu is different each time we go and it never disappoints. I will absolutely be back.

Yelp
Super charming atmosphere and service. The food was fantastic. Stand outs for dinner: butternut squash soup, a5 steak(add the truffles, it's worth it), and the chocolate hazelnut dessert. Can't wait to go back!

Jeffrey G.

Yelp
If you are ready to spend two to three hours with your favorite friends, you'll enjoy the food. To their credit, the hostess announced it as "Slow French dining" when they seated us so we were warned. Food was solid to good, but 45 minutes to the appetizers consisting of an endive salad, two butternut squash soups and rabbit pate. (Should be 15 minutes max because nothing could not be prepped in advance.) Another hour until we got nicely executed Colorado lamb, Scallops In a cream sauce and delightful Quail pie. We skipped dessert because they warned us "It takes a few minutes." I decided the Chef was either pretentious or more likely short-staffed. Fortunately we were with old friends and had much to catch up and reminisce, but my real sympathies were with the guy who came in from the patio and announced: "Forget the food. I just want to leave."
google avatar

Halezyeah ..

Yelp
The food was ok. Tried the veal and the salmon. Neither blew me away. The place is small but quaint. I would like to try it again when they have a different menu selection and sit outdoors next time. Staff was very friendly.

Yelp
Apparently you must be importing ingredients from France. But that's totally ok, with that pricing you won't be around long. I lived in France for over 10 yrs and never saw a menu priced like that. The public not as dumb as you take them to be.
google avatar

Jim V.

Yelp
Was not impressed. Service was slow, had to ask for bread. The main course (Veal) was okay, not by any means impressive enough to say I need to come back...

Sudipta R.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Was a little Disappointed that one of the appetizers wasn't available as the chef is very particular and the international shipment of endive was messed up. You probably shouldn't leave it on the menu or change the limited menu if that happens and you only have two for sale. Otherwise staff was very accommodating. And as mentioned food was excellent.

Karl S.

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere for a romantic dinner. The food is tremendous. If I could give it six stars, I would.

Frances B.

Yelp
After reading a review of Jane's in the Baton Rouge newspaper, I was intrigued and made a dinner there to celebrate my birthday with my husband. It was a bit too chilly for us to dine in the outdoor patio area, so we chose to eat in the charming dining room and had a ringside view of the activity in the kitchen. Watching the chefs work gave me an appreciation of the attention to detail that went into the preparation of our meal. While waiting for our first course, we were treated to a hot baguette that is baked by the chef each day. It was served with butter from Normandy. Wonderful start! We both had the Salade Niciose for our first course. The greens were very fresh and the tuna was tender and delicious. For our second courses, my husband chose the lamb chops and I had the Bouillabaisse and we were both happy with our selections. The seasoning was well balanced and the portions were just right. We could not make up our minds about dessert so we ordered one of each. My husband chose the strawberry tart and I chose the chocolate mousse cake. They were both little works of art and tasted as good as they looked. The wine recommended by our server, Angelle, paired perfectly with my Bouillabaisse. She was helpful, attentive, and made our evening go smoothly. The menu featured four choices for the first and second courses and two desserts. The selection is limited but the menu changes frequently. We enjoyed the lovely ambiance and unrushed service that allowed us to enjoy each other's company and conversation during our two hour meal. I look forward to returning when the evenings are a little warmer and we can enjoy dining in the beautiful patio area.

Eric M.

Yelp
I was a huge fan of this place when they opened. I took my wife here and had an extremely memorable experience. The food, service, and ambience were fantastic. I told everyone to try this place out. Well, two years later and Jane's has really taken a turn for the worse. We waited an hour... for bread. We were one of 3 couples in the restaurant on a Friday night. The service was ok I guess. I couldn't tell if we were being ignored or if it took 1.5 hours to slice pate out of a can. But the biggest disappointment was the main dish. I remembered the last meal I had here because I couldn't wait to come back. It was delicious and unique for the area. This time I will remember the meal, from start to finish, as something I could have whipped up in an hour in my own kitchen. It was so disappointing. The appetizers were cans and jars of stuff turned onto a plate. The main course was a bland, uninspired rabbit dish that had 3, 1x1 cm pieces of rabbit in total. The sauce was anemic and the pasta felt store bought. Deserts were good, but looked prepared out of Josie. So 3 hours with subpar food, service, and wine? 300+ dollars for 2 people. I'm so disappointed.

Erin G.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Atmosphere was amazing. Ambiance was perfect for date night. Would definitely recommend for a quiet romantic "getaway" in Lafayette

Lisa M.

Yelp
The service was unmatched and the food was exquisite. If the weather is nice, you must sit outside on the patio. So quaint and romantic.
