Jang Soo Jang offers, in my opinion, some of the best Korean food in Salt Lake City. The restaurant is simple, elegant, very clean with a nice atmosphere. The lunch combos offered are generous portions and very reasonable priced. The menu offers a great variety of typical Korean dishes. The metal cups and metal chop sticks are typical of Koran restaurants! Cool! The service was fast and the waiters/owners were very attentive and very nice. We had the lunch special, the Dolsot Bibimbap and the Soondubu Chigae. All fantastic! Definitely a place to recommend.

Google
Authentic Korean decor, a clean and elegant setting, professional service, and delicious food! The generous hospitality of the owner is an added bonus! Highly recommended for those who want to experience both the taste and atmosphere of Korean cuisine!

Google
One of the few “not too Americanised Korean restaurants” I could find in SLC. Each dish comes with a generous portion, the bulgogi and tteokbokki are my go-to orders. They are full of flavors and the side dishes are also delicious!

Google
really delicious and close to authentic 💯 Bibimbap was AMAZING and perfectly seasoned! my friend enjoyed her Yook Gae Jang (spicy beef stew with glass noodles) a lot too!! our favorite thing about this restaurant is that they served purple rice instead of white rice, which makes it so much better and authentic!! and also they gave out so many side dishes!!! that made the main dishes even more flavorful and fun to eat ❤️

Overall I thought the food was pretty average. Nothing really blew me away other than the really fast and efficient service. The waiter provided great recommendations and was over refilling water frequently and checking in on the table. But the food wasn't anything special and the cost didn't necessarily feel worth it.

Google
This is one of the restaurant we really want come back to when we revisit SLC. We were here last Christmas week, we enjoyed the authentic Korean food here. We stop in here after a day of ski for some comfort food. The taste on all the food was great. Most of the dishes are good portion except the Denjang chigae. The ingredients on the yook gae jang and soondobu chigae were kind of skimpy, not even shrimp on the soondobu and very little shredded beed on the yook gave jang. Beside that everything was great. The renovated restaurant is very clean and modern design, it is definitely an upgrade to the dining experience comparing to the original restaurant.

Google
It's consistently always good. The Korean lady taking orders didn't know English, but she is always really nice and polite and friendly. We always go eat here whenever we visit Salt Lake City. Basically everything on the menu tastes great, and it's a lot of food. I usually can barely finish it, or I sometimes need a to go box. Great quality/price ratio. Never had problems with parking or having to wait to get a table.

Google
Lovely restaurant with very friendly staff. Came here with friends who recommended it after saying it was the best Korean food they had found in Salt Lake. I tried their recommendations for the lunch combo, the Beef Buligogi and the Soondubu Chigae. A great deal for the the variety of food you get. I’m probably a bad judge for this style of food but it was good and everyone enjoyed their meal. The metal cups and chop sticks were cool though!

Yelp
The food was delicious! The service was great as well. The ambiance was nice, but a little plain

Yelp
Decent, good Korean food. Ambiance: Pretty unassuming on the outside, but the inside is clean and spacious with plenty of tables. They can definitely accommodate bigger parties as well. Service: Friendly and quick. Food: Got the daeji bulgogi and seafood soondubu chigae. Bulgolgi was flavorful and came out on a stove top that was still hot with lettuce and a dipping sauce. Soondubu came with an egg and lots of seafood. It was flavorful but I did wish there was more tofu. The sides were also plentiful and refreshing especially with the entrees. Overall, great korean place that has large portions!

Yelp
I've had this spot bookmarked for a little while. I also got so excited when I saw that they had a lunch combo, for $18.99 (before taxes & tip) you can choose a protein and a soup, LA kalbi was an extra $2 but so worth it. The kalbi was so juicy and tender. The soup was also loaded with seafood, also not spicy so it was perfect. The side dishes were also amazing. I can't wait to come back. If you are in SLC, run and go check out this spot. Plenty of parking in the plaza. The staff was super friendly. The interior was super classy.

David P.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant! So hard to find a lot of their soups and dishes anywhere in Utah. Particularly enjoyed the Jjamppong and the soft Tofu soup with seafood.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner and was pleasantly surprised at how clean and modern the restaurant was. Food was great and came out really fast. The kalbi ribs, soondubu were so good. Definitely will be back again.

Yelp
Love the food, especially the LA Galbi. The side dishes are great too. The menu with pictures makes it much easier to order. The service is good and not busy for a Saturday lunch. Clean and well maintained.

Yelp
We went there during Thanksgiving because I just had surgery and wasn't able to throw on a feast at home. We were seated very promptly and the service was great!

Ying L.

Yelp
I think they changed ownership. Prices went up and portions went down. Barely any service. Really upset cuz we loved Jang soo Jang....

Yelp
Enjoyed their lunch special it was just enough food to get my craving satisfied. The decor very pretty restaurant clean. Restroom was clean and accessible. They have plenty of parking and prices were great! Staff very friendly.

Yelp
Very traditional and authentic korean food. I love the tteokbokki and would recommend adding ramen to it. The portions are meant for family style eating and they provide sides galore! I am not the biggest fan of the rice but otherwise a very enjoyable and yummy place to get authentic korean cuisine from!

Yelp
I've been coming to this restaurant every month since 2017, but this is the first time I have been so disappointed. The service was so BAD. After my friend and I ordered, we waited for an hour while other tables that arrived after us had already finished their meals. No one came to check on us or see if we needed anything. We had to call the front desk, and found out that our server never placed our order. Additionally, the quality of the dishes has become inconsistent. The sauce for the spicy squid has changed, while the other dishes were okay, they were not as impressive as they used to be. Overall, I give 0 stars for the service and 2 stars for the food. I won't be coming back.
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
Arrived shortly before they opened their door and the open sign was turned on. They have no sign of chicken at all. So no spicy chicken for us at this Korean restaurant then. They have a limited menu here. Ordered the spicy squid, tteok bokki and japchae less beef meat. $59.60. They wouldn't let me add the soft tofu to the kimchi jjigae or add the kimchi to the soft tofu soup. I find it quite bothersome when restaurants won't allow for some customization, even though they have all of the ingredients. The tteok bokki is okay, however the rice cakes are over cooked and too soft, bit chewy enough for us. The tteok bokki sauce was okay, not very flavorful and not spicy at all, a bit soupy. The spicy squid is good, super flavorful and nice heat to it too. The sauce has a Smokey flavor to it, it's nice. The japchae had really good flavor, just lacking in other veggies that I like in it, spinach, carrots and mushrooms. Not a huge fan of the kelp in it. Banchans are okay, kimchi is so-so. I do like the potatoes at least. The fish cake is a bit too soft as well. The better dish was the spicy squid out of the 3 dishes we ordered.

Yelp
This is my favorite Korean Restaurant in Utah. I have been going to this place almost every week. If you are looking for a good Korean restaurant, please try! Their spice pork stir fry (Daeji Bokkeum) is amazing. This is a hidden menu which you should definitely try. There Kimchi Soup, Yukgejang, amd other menus are great as well. Plenty of free parking and centrally located in SLC MSA!

Yelp
Good food and fast service. The establishment was clean and modern. Overall a solid place. A bit on the pricey side.
google avatar

Jocelyn H.

Yelp
Ample seating - it's much larger than it looks from the outside. I walked in for lunch and ordered japchae to go. It was prepared very quickly. It was a huge amount. I planned to only eat half and save the rest for later but I enjoyed it so much, I ate it all in one sitting.
google avatar

Yelp
Went in on a Saturday night. Our server was very friendly and sweet, but the service was a little slow, considering there were only 4 tables that night. We ordered the kimchi pancake and beef intestine pot. Personally I think they were overpriced. The pot was $40 and the pancake was $20. Beef intestines were too hard to chew. Very few intestines, but a lot of tofu. The taste was okay.

Richard A.

Yelp
The soon tofu was too dilute. The stir fried spicy squids were equally tasteless. Definitely not cooked by a Korean. Not authentic at all. Disappointed. The waitress was nice. The restaurant was clean.

Yelp
Bene here a couple times. The place always give me a homey feel. The Korean food is pretty authentic, it has the homemade mom's taste. The service doesn't bother me at all, just tell them what you need. It's a family restaurant, not a big chain restaurant where all the employees got corporate training to treat customers the standard way or whatever.

Jamal B.

Yelp
Jang Soo Jang has an intimate and homey ambience. Contrary to the typical steel-cold kindness of chain establishments, you will feel as if you were welcomed into a close friend's home. I ordered the denjeng chigae. It arrived alongside a compact bowl of rice and some side dishes. Mediocrity splayed about the table. The amount of onions filled within my bowl was almost magical. With every stir, more and more would materialize in place. The stew itself was not for meager hearts. The saltiness was nigh inedible without rice. But they were not gracious with the quantity of rice served. This culminated in a greedy consumption of water and rice to tame the sodium. But with no refills, it was a short-lived union, leaving much of the stew to waste. Although the seating was comforting, the service was strikingly meager. After our food was initially delivered, the waitress was never to be seen again. My glass, made of plastic, of water was abysmally dry for the entirety of the visit. The lack of service was visibly imprinted on every table and became expected. As tables finished their meals, they sat in agonizing patience for roughly 30 minutes for checks that would never come. Only after witnessing a supposed regular stride up to the barren counter did many tables realize to do the same. Customers formed a line to pay that stretched down the aisles to the front. The event evoked memories of my license renewals at the DMV. Overall, the restaurant was quite authentic but lacked vitality in the food and service.

Jeffrey K.

Yelp
I've been here several times with my sons for lunch. The food has always been hot (temperature wise, which is rare nowadays) and delicious. The staff is courteous, friendly, and attentive. And, the restaurant itself is simple but attractive, and spotless. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Recently move from LA to SLC, was searching for a good Korean place that serves authentic Korean food. I ordered the beef soondubu and it was better than most of the soondubu I had in LA (in k town as well as Alhambra area). My wife ordered the Sundae gook and that was the highlight dish of the night. The food tasted so good and felt very homemade. Perfect for a fall night. Would definitely come back and so happy & thankful we have found the Korean restaurant for us in SLC. The only cons I have is that adding an additional rice can be pricey ($3). So if you are a big rice eater like me, I would suggest getting the food to go!
google avatar

S W.

Yelp
After trying a couple other Korean places in SLC, almost gave up on good Korean food...until we came here! Homey feels with delicious food served with generous portion sizes. The Sundae Gook was the highlight of the meal. Relative to other Korean restaurants in the area, entrees are reasonably priced! However, we were shocked at the $3 for each extra small bowl of rice. However, the incredibly scrumptious food and home-cooked vibes will have us come back again and again!
google avatar

Yelp
Food: - 4 Star Service: - Slow only one or at most two people working - But no extra Banchan, no matter if your have 1 person or party of 6 - I had food to go - they charged me 10% Tip for to go food. I will stop going here because of the slow service, bad attitude, no extra Banchan and the added 10% tip charge for togo orders. 3 stars because of the Food and I used to like this place.
google avatar

Chelsey C.

Yelp
Jang Soo Jang offers decent food, but the overall experience is not worth mentioning. The service here is poor, and they are very skimpy on their banchan. This place is also overpriced for the portions you get. After ordering $19 of japchae and $23 of BBQ the owner came to our table to inform us we would only get a small portion of banchan since the BBQ didn't come with banchan. This was quite off putting, I was very surprised with how skimpy they were- especially with the price they were charging for their food. I have never gone to a Korean restaurant where they didn't serve full banchan when you order entrees. They brought out a plate with tiny sized portions of their banchan, and their entree sizes weren't very large either. Overall, the food was average, but the service left something to be desired. Food: 3.5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 2/5 Overall: 3/5

Yelp
I have been coming to JSJ over a couple of years and had been satisfied with my experience. I loved the home cook style menu and vibe. However, I went recently and things are different. First, they no longer offer side dishes refill. I went in a group of 6 and we only got side dishes for 1 person. The owner explained that it is due to inflation that they are no longer offering. That is understandable but I feel like we should get a larger portion to begin with since we are a bigger group. Then, the food was average at best , pretty mediocre, and even dissapointing to be fair. There was no service offered, our water was not refilled at all. Sad that this once hidden secret is no longer what it is. There is no reason to revisit now that there are many other Korean restaurants in the area.

Yelp
I love this place! food amazing and the service is always good!! if you need any recommendations about the menu ask Gloria! she gave the best recommendation! it's been updated since I last came in and it looks amazing!!

Yelp
Stopped by during a winter road trip. Dude, this place is absolute bomb! Food is authentic Korean. Hands down one of the best Korean restaurants I've eaten at. It actually reminded me of eating at a friends house where the mom knows how to cook well! This is home cooked Korean food at its best.
google avatar

Raena L.

Yelp
I love how homey the place felt and it wasn't too busy, like a family owned restaurant. The service was quite good, didn't take too long and the food was good! The cabbage and short rib soup was good with a good amount of meat. Loved the sticky purple rice and the ban Chan!! They had good and fresh kimchi!! The bulgogi stew was good too and the sundae gook (soup was surprisingly delicious), would recommend to anyone who likes blood sausages and intestines! Overall great experience and would come back! It's slightly cheaper than the other places too!
google avatar

Graydon T.

Yelp
The owner lady (older short hair) just grabbed and shook our daughter because they were playing too loud with their cousins. Don't come here with your kids, these people are the worst. They have the worst service , kept us waiting forever. Then, after learning about this incident, I go back inside and they claim that the lady working there is the only one who's the manager / owner. Doesn't speak English. No one here can speak with me about it. Nothing. Seriously avoid this place like the plague unless you want some creepy old lady grabbing and shaking your kids.
google avatar

Lina L.

Yelp
This is mom and pop shop Korean place. Even though it's small but their food is super good!! There's only the old couple working here so plan your trip and avoid peak hours or else you have to wait. For those complaining about the service, I don't know what you are expecting if you live here in Salt Lake. You want to be treated like the king or queen that you are, you'll have to pay up the money or fly down to Las Vegas and find upscale restaurants on the strip for your high standards. It's just a middle-aged couple who's running this restaurant and y'all came because you liked their food. Their price is also not out of this world. So idk why young people these days expect to be treated right 24/7. They didn't hire any servers. And you decided to come through, so just sit and wait Jesus.
google avatar

Vic P.

Yelp
I took my favorite school Dean to expose her to Korean food and as a farewell dinner and it was the most horrendous experience ever. I was so embarrassed of how the owner of the restaurant treated us. Even though we were at the restaurant for over 2 hours enjoying each other's company the owner lady came by and started taking our dishes away saying "wash dish". Mind you, the restaurant was half empty! I mean seriously?!?!?!?!?!? It's a restaurant and it was dinner time!!! It was barely 7:30 and the place closes at 9pm!!! WTH!!!!!

Chloe L.

Yelp
As a native Korean, born and raised in Korea, it was pretty disappointing. foods were over priced- kimchi jeon, bulgogi in the pot, yookgaejang- total $59, and over $70 with tips. The foods are authentic korean style but the meat quality was disappointing and soup base didn't taste that great. Service isn't that great as there is not enough staffing. It's a family owned, and I'd like to support small businesses like this but I can't with this quality of food, service and price.
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
The best Korean restaurant I've been to thus far! The service is fantastic and the food is even better. Very authentic flavors, and the four items we tried were so flavorful (Dolsat Bibimbap, Yook Gae Jang, Kimchi Jjigae, and mandoo.) Banchan is also delicious, especially the kimchi I love that this place is family owned, and I can't wait to try their barbecue next! Highly recommend. Favorite dish so far has been the Kimchi Jjigae! Do yourself a favor and give it a try
google avatar

Brett C.

Yelp
Was in the mood for Korean bbq. Ordered takeout at this place. Ordered the bulgogi and soondubu chigae. Initially when I entered the restaurant, I was worried if I made the right choice. There was only 3 groups in the spacious dining area. Usually I would see a crowd during this dinner hour. But I was wrong. The flavor was good for both dishes. They also included all the side dishes which was also delicious. Would definitely come again and try their other dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
First impression of this place as you walk in is that it's a lot bigger than it looks like from the outside. Coming from SF, my friends and I were worried having to wait for Korean food, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. We came for dinner at 7:30 on Sunday (last meal in SLC) and it wasn't crowded at all. There were some big groups, mostly families, there grilling, but since we weren't super hungry, most of us went with one of their soups. They also offer bibimbap, jap chae, tofu soup as well some hot pot and specialty items. Not a bad selection. Banchan is pretty standard; you've got kimchi, bean sprouts, cucumbers, fish cake slices, potatoes, and broccoli. For my order, I went with a bowl of their galbi tang, which is short rib soup with glass noodles and eggs, for $11.99. It comes with a bowl of rice, but the soup is on the blander side so I mostly ate my rice with the banchan. This was only my second time ordering galbi tang, but it tasted pretty similar to the other one I've had in the bay area. After 4 days of mediocre American food in the Yellowstone/Grand Teton areas, my friends and I were really excited to get back to civilization for Asian food again, and this definitely hit the spot!

Yelp
We have been to this joint more than 3 times. The food was good, and the service was appropriate. They have the hotpot that can serve 2 people, and it is pretty authentic. However, much to our disappointment today, we ran into a scenario where they only allow 3 out of 6 sidedish refill. We have been to lots of Korean restaurants, and they usually serve 6 different side dishes before the entree is served. Usually, the server would prompt replace any side dish when the plate is empty. This "3 out of 6 pick" is rather new and confusing to us. Not to mention it is rather awkward when my wife asked "can we have more of this fish cake?" and the response was "sorry, you can only have 3 and you already picked 3 side dish". I am not sure what caused the change in the side dish policy. But one thing I am sure of is it will not lead to more profits. It would be rather sad if the overall profit of a Korean restaurant depends on how you serve side dish. We would probably go back, but this restaurant would not make the top of our list in the future.

Ixlandy J.

Yelp
DONT GO IF YOU HAVE A PARTY OF 5 OR BIGGER I'm giving it a two stars because to me the food was great, but I will not be going back. First off I went in and they didn't bring water and the menu to us but everyone that entered after us got theirs as they sat down. Then my mom ordered more rice for my brother and they said no because he didn't get food. I went with a party 5 but only 3 people ate since two weren't hungry. WE WERE MADE TO PAY 20 OF TIPS because we were a party of 5. I'm really disappointed because I loved the food here but no. They are taking advantage of people
google avatar

Yelp
My friend and I came here on a Sunday night and it was not crowded at all. My first impression was that the restaurant was a lot larger on the inside than what you would imagine. We were seated fast and our food came out quickly. We tried their short ribs and bbq pork. Our meal came with a bowl of rice. Banchan was pretty standard, but pretty good (broccoli, potatoes, fish cake, cucumber, bean sprout, and kimchi). I'm assuming it's unlimited, but we were too full for seconds. The short ribs and bbq pork were the best part of our meal. They cook it for you in the back and bring it out on the grill. Takes the hard, but also fun part out of kbbq. Would recommend this if it's your first time here. They have other soups, hot pot, bibimbap, jap chae, and specialty items. Price seemed very fair for the amount of food that you're getting. Overall, I would come back. Definitely one of the better Asian restaurants in SLC.

Yelp
Went for my first time today 10/8/22. I must say the most amazing food and service. The service was incredible. I will be going back. The food was incredible. Can't wait to try other things.

Yelp
I am Korean. I thought the food was very good including the panchan. They don't serve alcohol. You can bring your own.

Yelp
The most legit Korean food I have had in Salt Lake since I moved from Hong Kong. I wouldn't say it's the best I have ever had as apparently I have had superb Korean food in Hong Kong and Korea, but to be fair, it is quite decent here! At least this place is running by Koreans and they have great Kimchi which I loved the most!

雅妮

Yelp
Best Korean food that I have ever eat in US. We are from Philadelphia and come to visit salt lake City.
google avatar

Leslie O.

Yelp
The food was as good as it gets for Korean food! I had the black cod fish, and my wife had the jopche, and we had pot stickers for an appetizer. OMG! It was all delicious. They did an amazing job considering they were short handed. It was just a husband and wife team, and they posted a sign requesting patience, and that they were short on staff. This was our first time at this restaurant, but we were very impressed by their hospitality, service, and food quality considering there were only two of them. Great food, and if I lived closer I'd go back often!

Yuntong Z.

Yelp
Really tasty food. Tofu stew full of flavor. Food is served very quick. Only problem is that I love beef and there wasn't enough beef in the pot we ordered.
google avatar

Yelp
In my humble opinion, this is the OG Korean restaurant in Salt Lake, at least for my family who has been coming here for more than ten years. When people hear Korean food, they tend to think Korean BBQ, which is not everyday food in Korea and is more expensive, though is becoming more common both in Korea and the states recently. While they do offer some bbq options, that is not the reason to come here in my opinion (though I'm sure it's great). There aren't enough Korean restaurants that serve the classic soups, stews, and rice dishes such as Cham Pong (only on Thursday), Bibimbap, and Galbi Tang, but Jang Soo Jang is not one of them. On my last visit, I ordered the Soondaeguk and my friend had the Soondubu Chigae which were delicious and came out still bubbling :) If I had one criticism, it would be that many of the traditional vegetable dishes and soups have now beef or seafood added in, which is definitely mainly a response to the American expectation of meat in every meal and what I mentioned earlier about KBBQ, but maybe you could do a classic just veggie option for some of the entrees for cheaper.
google avatar

Satish S.

Yelp
Love food here, it's authentic and fresh. The hot pots and stew broth is best in Utah and I've never had bad service.

Yelp
So delicious! The picky eaters were eating everything. My niece declared her favorite restaurant and has already planned for next visit
google avatar

Skylar C.

Yelp
This is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to and the service is amazing. All the one star reviews are by racist people and it's easy to tell since they only comment on the shop owners (most of them mock their "broken English" as well which I have never heard, they speak very well) and not the actual food. If you're not rude to the servers they won't be rude to you, and if you have ornery kids you can't expect them to be okay with that. The servers are so kind and the food is so amazing and fairly priced. The atmosphere is lovely and it's definitely my safe place. They're short staffed as of now though so be patient, the food is worth the wait!
google avatar

Yelp
I love the food at this place. If you're overwhelmed by the crowd at Myung Ga's, you can come here and chill. The food is comparatively as good as, if not better than the other place. My kimchi chigae (shouldn't it be jjigae? I don't know Korean so I can't tell) comes in hot and spicy just as I expect it. Kinda expectedly salty as well because I have never tasted any kimchi soup that is not salty. The soup is very flavorful, thanks to the kimchi. Just want to point out that the small dishes are not re-filled unlimitedly; we were refused on our third time asking for kimchi. There were only 2 tables eating at that time including ours so I wonder maybe they could try a little bit more to help attract more customers? Overall good experience, definitely a better location and decor than the one I've been to 3 years ago.
