Janzs in Amsterdam offers a delightful blend of flavors, from the fresh Dutch Yellowtail ceviche to the rich, comforting Pulitzer Burger and the delicious roasted chicken. The atmosphere is stylish yet inviting, creating a perfect setting for both casual and special occasions. The service is attentive and professional, ensuring a seamless dining experience with every dish served with care.

Google
We went to Jansz for a birthday dinner, and it was a lovely experience. The staff was super polite and accommodating, even when we brought our own cake from Waldo—they served it with the same smile as if it were their own. The food was fantastic, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. There was one staff member who seemed pretty new and a bit unsure of what to do, but it didn’t take away from the overall experience. A great spot for a special occasion!

Google
Absolute gem of a restaurant. Nice quaint restaurant located in the historic Pulitzer Hotel, Jansz blew us away in every way possible. Beautiful decor, a bit pricey but very well curated (locally sourced and seasonally prepared) menu, amazingly friendly staff, we really enjoyed our time here. Recommended!!

Google
Lovely restaurant, great starter and main options. Food is meticulously prepared but portions are small even for the fine dining atmosphere. We had crudo, sweet corn with black garlic, celeriac and pate followed by Bavette. All perfectly cooked apart from meat being a bit underseasoned, but delicious all the way. The staff is super kind and their gesture for our anniversary with their handwritten card and complimentary champagne left us impressed and joyful. All and all, great experience for a date night.

Google
Food was delicious and cooked to perfection. The portions were quite small - even for European standards. Unfortunately, I felt like I was given the cold shoulder by the staff - our server was snickering to a colleague while attending our table. They forgot a few items that my table ordered. I even had to remind staff to bring a bottle a wine to the table. It was worth the 30% off…

Google
Food was fine, overpriced for what you get. Looks better then it tastes. Portions were alright, bit on the small side. Atmosphere was great.

Google
Thank you for the incredible lunch! I was absolutely blown away by the experience that asparagus with anchovies delivered - crunchy, umami, creamy - this dish was everything! Tartare was an absolute delight as well - fresh, amazing texture and balance. The main course was also great, but I think that the starters truly shined and stood out! Highly recommend this place for the nice atmosphere and wonderful tasting experience.

Jansz is a wonderful resturant in a super location. Food was terrific. Service was great

Yelp
Such a wonderful European ambiance for nice romantic dinner. Was in Amsterdam for the weekend and was able to secure a reservation at this quaint little place. Its on a side street so was easy to get a ride to drop us off near one of the major streets. Small selection of wines that ranged from moderate to very expensive. We ordered a bottle of red wine for the meal. We ordered the 1/2 dozen oysters which was nice size and easily consumed. Highly recommend. We ordered the Dry Aged Filet Mignon and the Halibut for our meals. Both were amazing. The steak comes with fries so we should not have ordered the smashed potatoes. The potatoes weren't very good and didn't add anything to a perfect meal. We really enjoyed the entire experience.

Yelp
Amazing dinner with nice views next to canal. Front staff/ host very accommodating. Our waiter was very efficient but not friendly. Never smiled or even made conversation. We had an excellent meal, all our food was delicious.

Yelp
See went here for breakfast last week. Had the eggs and bacon others had the omelet with ham and cheese. Everything was very good

Yelp
Really, can you beat the "ambience" of sitting by the window of a classy Amsterdam restaurant? I suppose so, if the food sucks. This was NOT the case at Jansz. Without a reservation, I stopped in early, and admired the pharmacy-based décor by the back door, including a gorgeous illuminated nook filled with flasks and bottles. It's in the same general space as the Pulitzer hotel bar, which I previously reviewed. There was almost no one else in the place, so I had the full attention of my waitress, and she had my attention *ahem*. Three courses - first, tuna tartare, followed by a cauliflower, mushroom and pine nuts sauté resting on a bed of cauliflower puree, and finally salmon with black rice and bimi. Obviously, plenty of good wine choices.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
An excellent experience. A beautiful restaurant that is part of the Pulitzer. To start they had my whiskey! The service was attentive and responsive. The food was well presented and delicious. We worked our way through several small dishes for tastings and then really enjoyed the mains. I had the lobster that was thoughtfully prepared. The wine choices were excellent. Sadly, we could not get a second rez when we returned to Amsterdam at the end of our trip, but the front desk person walked us over to the sister restaurant and got us seated. Wonderful service.

Yelp
This place is solid. Nothing mind blowing, but nothing bad. Great service; good eats; a little pricey for the portions, but solid lunch spot. Instagram PUMP(kin) ... PA-PUMP IT UP!!! Yelp
This was a great restaurant that is part of a hotel. The decor was lovely. The service was great and our server was very polite. We definitely liked the appetizers and small plates a lot more than the main entrées. We ordered a plate of sourdough bread, the beef carpaccio, and the burrata. All tasted fantastic. The main meal was OK. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't amazing. My fish seem to someone cold. The risotto which I really wanted to like, tasted pretty bad. I'm glad I ordered a side of this mashed potatoes. I think this place is worth visiting and perhaps it depends on what you order. It is highly ranked among the restaurants in Amsterdam. I am willing to return.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was 5 stars. Outdoor seating next to the canals with decent weather was also very good. Service was really slow. Maybe it was due to inside dining being full, not sure. Our server was certainly polite and got our orders correct. Overall very pleasant experience and I'd do it again.

Yelp
Jansz is a restaurant located inside the Pulitzer Hotel (enter from inside the hotel). The ambiance was quiet but fine dining vibes. The menu was simple with variety, but not overly complicated. I opted for the venison with a glass of the orange wine. The waiter offered me a sample of the wine to make sure I liked it before pouring me a glass. The venison was great and plated beautifully, with tasty croutons and creamy mashed potatoes. The orange wine was tasty as well -- unique as I've never had it before -- though I'm not sure it would be my go-to wine. It did pair very nicely with the red meat. Overall, a very nice restaurant conveniently located inside a hotel (especially if you're staying at the hotel). Staff members were friendly and attentive, and I enjoyed the food. Not the cheapest meal, but not overly expensive either. Solid choice for dinner.

Yelp
We came here for dinner on our trip to Amsterdam and were interested in trying a more fine dining restaurant. Jansz is connected to the Pulitzer Hotel which also has a great courtyard/garden to check out if you come during the daytime. We made a reservation ahead of time and were quickly seated when we arrived. Our server was nice and gave some great recommendations off the menu. We started off sharing the crab toast which was fantastic and a good portion to share between 2 people. I got the fish of the day which was a grilled bass on top of grains with a cream sauce while my partner got the venison. We definitely preferred the fish which was tender and flaky and full of flavor. The venison was good as well but just not as good of a protein. Overall, a good meal - I wouldn't say it's amazing but everything tasted fresh and was a good experience for something a bit more modern than traditional Dutch food.

Yelp
Inside the Pulitzer Hotel. No reservations but friends were staying at the hotel so we got in for dinner on a Saturday night at 7:00pm seated at the bar counter. Food is very good, a bit on the smaller "gourmet size" & a bit pricey for portions otherwise it would have been a 5 star review. Service is excellent. Our party of 4 had no complaints however.

Yelp
I did my research and came across this restaurant with great reviews. I made reservations almost a month before my visit. You don't need to dress up for this place, but you don't want to look too casual either. It's a nice restaurant. Overall, the food was okay. The best thing was the tomato salad and the ravioli from the 4 dishes that we ordered. The burrata was something that we couldn't understand - it had peaches, popcorn, raw mini corn, regular corn, and tortilla chips. We thought it was missing some kind of sauce/dressing, and we did ask about it, but our server also agreed that other customers felt the same way about the dish. The eggplant dish was pretty good. I think we were expecting more from this experience, and it could just be that it didn't fit our taste. The service was amazing and the ambiance was really nice, with the dim lights and décor, it really fit the bill.

Yelp
Phenomenal ambiance, delicious food. I got the lobster roll and a rose. We sat outside in the garden and light music was playing inside. Service was super fast and friendly. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Just wish the menu was a little larger. But everything was delicious and the service was excellent.

Yelp
I had a wonderful time here. They really took care of us granted we came in at the last minute without reservations. The food was delicious and we got a little more than expected. It was a very chill environment that made the whole experience worth while. My favorite part was of course the dessert but no other dishes lacked in any way.
google avatar

Yelp
I was very excited to eat here but was not blown away by anything other than the pleasant service, nice interior and pretty presentation. The octopus was served in a thin layer and was overly salty with an unpleasant amount of gelatinized fat around it and borderline chewy. The lamb was on the small side and honestly could have used another minute less being cooked. Again, quite a bit of salt noted. To end the meal, I got the peanut butter sundae, which I had very much been looking forward to since I saw pictures online. The best part was the ice cream but it was drowned out by too many other things, including a very very hard biscuit cookie (just a regular Maria cookie, as we call them in the states), which I didn't end up eating, nuts and mousse. The sundae would have been perfect if the star had been the ice cream, then garnished with the brown bits, and the meringue with caramel on top.

Yelp
We dined at Jansz this past Thursday evening, when we arrived in Amsterdam. We were a bit early for our reservation but they had no issues seating us early and were so welcoming in the process. Our server was wonderful throughout! Unfortunately, I didn't get her name but she was very helpful with recommendations and answering all our questions. The food was amazing my husband got the ravioli and I got the daily Fish, both were incredible. we had a few small plates as well which were also great. We didn't have any room for dessert so we will have to come back next time we are in Amsterdam to give their sweets a try.

Yelp
Great service, delicious food and beautiful decor. We stayed at the Pulitzer Hotel which is part of the restaurant. All around a 5 star experience.

Yelp
Jansz restaurant is connected to the beautiful Pulitzer Hotel. It is a beautiful modern restaurant with a very nice menu. Three of us had the burger, chicken (cooked sous vide) and the cod filet. All were delicious and prepared to perfection. The burger was nice and medium and tasty. The chicken melted in your mouth and the cod was flaky and delicious. For dessert we share the peanut butter Sunday, the cake with real berries and yogurt and the carrot cake. All were excellent. The Jansz also has a wonderful Breakfast brunch buffet!. Service was impeccable and we were provided a short oral history of the restaurant. Very cool!

Frank G.

Yelp
The food was delicious, service was great and the atmosphere was great with the large windows just off the canal!!

Yelp
My neice and I had lunch before our day in between museums. Therefore, I made a reservation. Upon arrival the hostesses were very friendly. They sat us quickly. The restaurant ambiance is quite lovely. Our food server was very nice and helpful when asked about the menu. The two of us ended up splitting crab toast, a lobster roll and fries. The crab toast was fantastic! It felt very hearty and satisfying. The lobster roll was good, but it felt like it was missing some lobster. Fries- now the fries. Order them, you won't regret it. I love fries and these were GREAT! I couldn't stop eating them. Peanut Butter Sundae- i didn't have any space left for dessert so I didn't get to try the sundae. However, by the looks of it I would say.... save room In all we had a lovely experience. It was a slow and relaxing meal.

Yelp
Well kind of a bummer. We decided to actually walk a bit and have breakfast here. Love the place, beautiful, bright sunny room, great service and food. Stinky Covid has kept us out of town for several years and we have had great parties at the restaurant so, yes looking forward to eating a late breakfast / early lunch here. So, nope damn it. Lots of empty tables but, we were told no breakfast unless we were staying at the hotel. Not sure if that is always the case but certainly was yesterday- Very sad face! Leaving town without a chance to enjoy their lovely restaurant.

Bob V.

Yelp
We made a reservation for Family Sunday and were very disappointed with the service, our server kept forgetting parts of our order and had to be reminded. She never checked in with us. The food and drinks were ok, but took forever to arrive. We ordered two slices of apple pie which never came. The kids play area they set up was sad, a few stations of activities in a dark room with a person who was supposed to supervise the kids but was just sitting in the corner not engaging the kids at all.

Yelp
I've been to Restaurant Jansz before and the service is great and it's a pretty restaurant but the food didn't do much for me. I read they have a new chef so wanted to try it again. Glad I did. The cocktails are creative and delicious. The service was good, friendly and timely. I really loved the burrata with zucchini and chili. Creamy and slightly spicy and makes me want to go back for it. I forgot to take a pic of the spring pea toast. It was fresh and springy (clearly peas are popular as I think they are in three dishes). Good starter. Husbands fish tasted better than it looked. I forget grilled typically means flat grilled and not open fire grilled. But good. Tomato salad was light and the tomatoes all had flavor (not the sometimes flavorless tomatoes I find). I enjoyed Jansz and would go back and get the burrata and try some more items.

Joe L.

Yelp
Food was very good, service was excellent and it's a nice, modern restaurant in a great part of Amsterdam.

Yelp
Hands down the best Fine dinning restaurant during my Amsterdam trip! Their food, service and ambience were all 5 stars! Definitely will come back during my next visit!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great service. Beautiful location and setting overlooking the canal. Knowledgeable staff who gave us wonderful recommendations on wine and food selections.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic breakfast spot! The hotel is also lovely! The brunch at Jansz is included in your stay. Totally worth it! Keto breakfast of Eggs Benedict without the bread! If you get the scrambled eggs, ask for real eggs or they use a container of processed egg product. Very kind wait staff. But stick to the breakfast. We went back for dinner and were quite disappointed. Sauces were not good at all. The bearnaise was a green bean bearnaise. The hanger steak was tiny, with only 3 small pieces. The poultry was tiny and the sole was underwhelming without a butter sauce (it was a chopped olive sauce).
google avatar

Aaron N.

Yelp
This was fine dining at is best but not at all pretentious. The staff were all incredibly nice, and helpful. The ambiance is very cool and trendy with low light, candles and light music. I started off with an amazing burrata starter followed by the venison. The portions were a little on the small side but not terrible and I left very satisfied. I plan on coming back every time I come to Amsterdam.
google avatar

Yelp
Jansz is one of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had! Not only is there a buffet spread, but there's also a menu you can order from made up of brunch classics like eggs Benedict, oatmeal, and french toast. The buttermilk pancakes are delicious! They're thin and light topped with a banana compote, candied walnuts, whipped cream, fresh fruit, and Dutch syrup. It's not overly sweet, making it easy to eat the whole thing. Their buffet is made up of two areas - sweet and savory. The sweet area has yogurt, fresh fruit, etc., while the savory area has fresh meats and cheeses. Service is very friendly and attentive. The decor is also adorable and it gets plenty of natural light, making it great for ins

Abigail K.

Yelp
Ambiance of Jansz was very nice, spacious seating area nice bar and not too loud. The service was very good as well servers were attentive and prompt. The food itself was tasty however two of my group were served cold ravioli and the duck was a bit over cooked. Steak with oxtail was very good and cooked exactly as ordered
google avatar

Harley S.

Yelp
Jansz is the restaurant of the Hotel Pulitzer, but it is an excellent restaurant in it's own right. Jansz is a highly ambitious restaurant, even among its neighbors in the Jardaan, with marble tables, an army of servers, and many upscale touches, not to mention several entrees that exceed 35 euros. For the most part, it lives up to its ambitions. Everything is prepared with care, special requests are happily obliged, and both the flavors and preparations are a notch above the area's tourist restaurants. Our sole complaint is that an otherwise wonderful duck terrine was too salty. A crime really, because it's a really nice appetizer.

Catherine C.

Yelp
Ate here during my hotel stay and the food & wine was top notch. Had the ravioli- maybe the best I've had- and a super fresh salad. About licked the plate.
google avatar

Alexandra T.

Yelp
Came to Jansz on a Wed evening while traveling for business. I walked in around 830pm and sat immediately, but I was alone and didn't see many open tables for groups or even other parties of 2 so I must have gotten lucky. They did have a bar area as well. The atmosphere was super romantic and slightly dim with tall candles on each table. The service was absolutely fantastic as well. I went with the diver scallops to start. They were served in a huge shell with a piece of cured meat sticking out. Scallops were on top of a foamy pea purée. Truly beautiful dish and even more delicious to eat. I went with the veal as my entree. It was served on top of a red wine a jus and scallions. I wish I ordered a side dish of veggies or potatoes, but the veal was sizable. Super tender and cooked absolutely perfectly. Had a glass of a French red to go along with the veal. Would absolutely come back here or recommend to others for a brilliant fine dining experience at a decent price.

Yelp
Located in the Pulitzer hotel, we had a scrumptious meal starting w tuna tartare that was sooo fresh. Then a salad appeared complimentary, and then most of us ordered the truffle pasta, some had the cod and the hangar steak. Everything was understated yet very flavorful and balanced. skillz!!' Lastly we had the cheese plate and even homemade sorbet. The service was great and getting a private room upstairs was special. Definitely would come back.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I shared the following: 1/2 dz oysters, top sirloin, and the fish of the day- which was a bream. Everything was excellent. The service was great. Its a nice restaurant. Very tastefully decorated and comfortable. We are really happy we chose this for dinner in Amsterdam.

Rob H.

Yelp
Hands-down, our best dinner in Amsterdam. The staff was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. They made excellent recommendations and the dinner was amazing. The fish of the day was a cod that was prepared incredibly well. We also tried the turbot fish main dinner entree. Overall, the restaurant staff, the surroundings, the menu, and the meal itself were extraordinary. I would highly recommend that you try this restaurant located in the Jordaan neighborhood of Amsterdam the next time you're in town.

Yelp
Delicious! Super great spot for solo diners and the food is lovely. Great selection and service. Also off the beaten path from some of the more touristy places, which is nice. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
We stayed at the Pulitzer Amsterdam hotel and had lunch at Jansz the first day we arrived. Everything was made on order and was quite tasty! The restaurant is nicely designed and the service was great! We also had breakfast that was included in our room rate and it was exceptional!

Yelp
Horrible!!!! Made a reservation IN PERSON at the hostess stand. Came back following day for reservation only to find that they "didn't have" our reservation and the only "table" they could provide was at a kitchen counter in the corner. Absolutely horrible service, rude hostess!!!! Will never go back there again and will forever tell people what a horrible place it is.

Yelp
Great food, great ambiance and great service! This is a place where you go when you want to enjoy your food and relax in the atmosphere that is Amsterdam. If you are on a tight schedule and are only thinking of the next event that you need to attend after you eat? Then, this is not your place. If you want a restaurant that treats you like a friend and enjoys and welcomes your stay while you are with them? Then, this IS your place! Do yourself a favor and make a reservation! #Awesomerestaurant

Yelp
a perfect first dinner in amsterdam! the ambiance was everything and the food was fabulous. i got the mushroom dish (the eringi) and it tasted like pasta in the best way. i also stole some fries from my mom and they were excellent.
google avatar

CJ H.

Yelp
Nice upscale restaurant with attentive service and good food. The oysters Amsterdam was an explosion of flavors. One to start is perfect. Followed by crab toast for sharing. My husband enjoyed the beef carpaccio while I had the Jansz bowl which was large and a great mix of greens, tomatoes and other veggies.

Yelp
So good!! Took a last minute trip to Amsterdam for a 3-day weekend. On my last night, I was on Google looking for a worthwhile place to have dinner, and came across Jansz. Called to book dinner for that night, for 1.. didn't expect them to accommodate, but surely they did, at the kitchen counter looking at the open kitchen. I got the Lobster Risotto and am so please. Creamy, great portion of risotto, could have been a tad more lobster.. but it's understandable :) I also ordered a side of sautéed spinach, which was steamed in garlic and was so so good! Definitely recommend adding a veggie to the order. I ordered the Chocolate Fondant, which was recommended by 3 different people that work here. Quote, "not like I don't like our Creme Brûlée, but you can get that anywhere". And oh my, he was right. So, so good!!! Get it!! (Don't care as much about ambiance, the food was so good) - But for the sake of this review.. yes. Very vibey, dim and candle lit. Right on the canal, in case you get a table by the window. I sat at the counter, looking into l the open kitchen, which I enjoyed (gave me something to do while solo dining). Staff is super nice, and they work together, which I prefer versus when you get 1 waiter.. and if you want something, you have to wait for that single person.. Best restaurant I've been to in Amsterdam (not like I've been to many..). Definitely try to make it here for an amazing dinner, right on the canal. I'll be recommending to all of my friends, and will definitely come back again.

Yelp
We stayed at the Pulitzer and were too tired to go elsewhere for dinner one night. We had walked by the restaurant on the way back to the hotel/our room and it looked 85% full. Before we went to the restaurant, I called the hotel to ask if the [hotel] restaurant had any availability. They said it was fully committed. So, we walked down to the restaurant and asked the same question, and they seated us immediately. This was close to closing time. Pricing is ok, service was polite. Everything around us was definitely a tourist and most people sounded American. I was sick of eating meat so had a caprese salad appetizer, which was well sized. It was under seasoned. Dessert - we got ice cream and I think their kitchen is on the 2nd floor. By the time we got it it was very melty. Overall, good for a convenient bite. I would've tried breakfast but never got around to it.
google avatar

Alan F.

Yelp
Awesome European type restaurant. I opted for the street seats so I could people watch while having this great meal. The fish dish was great and wine selection also offered a lot of variety. Smaller portions but hey it tasted great! The ambience inside seemed very nice as well but when you're in such a nice city, I wanted to absorb as much outside-ness as I could. :-)
google avatar

Gary B.

Yelp
I've had the hanger steak with bearnise sauce twice. The meat was so tender and flavorful that I was left wanting more! The hanger steak was presented on a bed of sautéed onions and fresh Enokitake mushrooms. Overall the service is fantastic due in part to the friendliness of the wait staff. If possible I recommend making reservations because they can fill up but even arriving without a reservation, we were seated within minutes!

Yelp
The fella and I had dinner at Jansz our last night in Amsterdam. It's located near the fantastic Jordaan neighborhood, attached to the Pulitzer hotel. The ambiance was upscale-ish yet casual, the service was impeccable, and the food was plated beautifully and tasted SO good. I ordered the vegetables with goat cheese and the orecchiette with truffles, and my husband had the salmon with a side of fries. We shared the chocolate fondant (do not pass it up!) and the Dutch custard. Both were delicious but we could have gotten away with sharing one dessert as they were larger than expected and very rich. We each had a glass of good wine and we were brought mini baguettes before our entrees were served. While it wasn't the cheapest dinner we had, it was reasonably priced and we're so glad we gave Jansz a try.

Yelp
A peaceful lunch oasis on kings day 2022. Totally enjoyed the crab toast appetizer, and the starter champagne.
