Japan Premium Beef is the best place for high quality beef, especially Wagyu beef. Their service was amazingly friendly, supportive and helpful. I visited here without clear idea what I should get and explain with vague description but the staff was patient to introduce pros and cons of most of meat and what they served. The beef was extremely delicious with reasonable price and I will definitely come back to try their beef tongue (reservation needed).

Google
This small butcher shop is known for its exceptional Japanese Wagyu. Though it's on the pricier side, it's absolutely worth it! The marbling on the steak is striking, and it melts in your mouth.

The staff here sucks. I went out of my way to visit the store 40 minute before closing to get shabu shabu beef and the person working told us no more shabu shabu cut for the day just because they are too lazy to clean the machine again. Since we already had plans to cook shabu shabu for dinner that day, we ended up settling for the beef kiriotoshi which was very unappetizing, see photo. Thanks for ruining our dinner plans because of pure laziness.

Google
This place is great. I was at first intimidated by the fancy cuts so my first purchase was the hanger steak which was nice but not revelatory like what I got on my second visit. On this second visit for an anniversary dinner, I bought 0.44lb of the wagyu A5 NY strip and 0.71lb of the 45 day aged "Washyugu" (hybrid Wagyu and American cow from Oregon). These are totally worth it for a completely different steak experience than your everyday USDA Choice ribeye from Whole Foods. Even though the above weights add up to about 8oz per person for a two person dinner, the steaks are so rich and filling that we couldn't eat any of the other courses I had planned (I happened to start the dinner with just the steaks, no sides or apps). This is not a complaint but more to point out that for two people, about 0.25lb of A5 Wagyu each plus sides, an app, and a dessert will fill you up plenty, which makes Wagyu even at $130/lb much more affordable than you might have thought. So the steaks were great, and also the staff at the store are also super helpful. Also key were the YouTube videos the store has made that guide you through how to cook each type of steak. I followed them and the steaks came out perfectly.

It's really great to have an amazing Japanese butcher here in NYC. Takes me back to Japan every time I go in. You can grab a taste of the real thing here.

Google
Definitely great place for Japanese wagyu. But the piece I got was overwhelmingly rich and it tasted like a mouthful of fat. I would prefer a new slice of meat rather than the pre-cut next time.

Google
Best in the city for wagyu Steak. Hands down.

Google
As a steak fiend, I come here every week! Amazing steak, great prices, and the nicest staff! Not sure why anyone shops elsewhere.

Yelp
The wagyu beef we bought here was excellent and it cooked nicely. It's on the expensive side, but worth it. Melted like butter. The service was quick and the cuts were nice, no further processing required. The place is very minimalistic, a strightforward butcher shop.

Yelp
Super friendly staff. Got the a5 wagyu here ! The cut is very well marbeled. The problem with eating wagyu is that once you eat it every other steak you eat will pale in comparison. The price is very fair for the quality of meat. The steak melts in your mouth and you don't even have to use oil as you can cook the steak in its own fat. I will come back here when I want to reward myself.

Yelp
This is the place to buy Japanese premium beef, hence the name of the shop. They sell authentic wagyu beef here and sometimes they have a section where they have discounted meat since they're end parts. I've gotten washugyu beef here and picanha and it was amazing. The people working here are also very nice and recommend meats to you depending on how you want to cook it. They also sell real wasabi and other sauces here too!

Yelp
Love this place! The cuts of beef are expertly brought out for customers and the staff is super friendly and extremely accommodating. We arrived mid-afternoon in the hopes of picking up some marinated wagyu. Upon arrival we learned that they were all sold out. Instead of leaving empty handed, they nicely offered to cut and place our order in a marinated package for us to enjoy whenever we wanted! We also picked up a bottle of their yaikiniku sauce and can confirm it's extremely tasty (albeit a bit salty). Prices are equitable considering this is a premium spot. Their meats are premium and melt in your mouth! Can't wait to come back for my next order!

Yelp
Worst customer service with the manager. The store attendants are great. Do not give them your business, you are better off ordering online. I went into the store and paid for their 130/lb A5 and when I get home the meat looks like this on the inside, with the outside red. Who expects meat that expensive to be in this condition the same day you buy it and cut it to eat it. Full bait and switch. I then ask the manager to help resolve this and they tell me that they don't offer anything and he refuses to call me when I politely asked him to call me in the first email to talk about this. NO WAY TO TREAT ANY CUSTOMER.

Yelp
Legitimate Japanese Wagyu at reasonable prices. While the shop is small, they have all the wagyu options you can possibly ask for, and also Miyazaki A5 wagyu! There are also other non-Japanese wagyu options, as well as condiments if you want those. The butcher shop owners are friendly, and will give you instructions on how to cook the meat you are buying. They even have a video that you can reference to cook your steak to perfection at home.
google avatar

Yelp
That's really best steak (and the most expensive one) ever. A5 marble mmmmmmm! It was super good. Another cut with a regular meat I didn't like (it was like $40 for a pound).

Yelp
I was lucky enough that my girlfriend brought me here for my birthday to pick out some amazing steaks for that night's dinner. First, I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were pieces of Wagyu that had been marked down, making it a little easier for us to indulge. Their overall selection was pretty amazing, plenty of dry aged options and both Wagyu and Washugyu of all different varieties. Our cut of wagyu was delicious, and we are saving our cut of washugyu ribeye for future dining. But I dare say that the winner of the whole bunch was the beef Kirotoshi, which was so versatile that we were able to use it in both homemade pho and homemade gyudon with great success! It is a luxury store with a luxury product for sure, but if you're in the mood for an exceptional piece of steak that you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else in the area, then this is the place for you.

Yelp
TL;DR Bait and switch for 30% more money. Find a more honest business to patronize. I ordered two 10lb Washugyu briskets for pickup and was quoted $270 - which is a lot but not bad for fresh Washugyu. When I showed up they had my briskets - which they had trimmed to larger than I had asked and insisted on $345. This is a bait and switch. Next time I will order from Heritage Foods like I should have this time. They lost a customer over $75.

Yelp
Well this wagyu has been on my radar for sometime. I would sit at home in front of laptop. Drooling as I watched Japanese chefs prepare and cook the prized wagyu. Or would visit online wagyu sellers online. But would never really pulling the trigger. Today was the day!! Got home and brushed up on some YouTube videos . Come on If you are spending $130 lb you don't wanna mess it up, if you know what I mean. Hot cast iron pan sliced some fat off steaks to grease pan hmmm. Think next time would use my stainless pan. Ohh wish I had a stainless flat top. To say the least cooking wagyu with the right temperature to get at that melting point. Hmmm melt in your mouth. Seasoning just salt and pepper. They have other products too. Picked up a 3 lb slice of pork belly. Gonna do a D Chang recipe with that cut. Service was fast and friendly. Well store front not very large. But the flavor makes up the difference for any small detail like this.

Yelp
I got the Washugyu NY strip - which is Wagyu beef crossbred with Black Angus. Hot tip - instead of asking for two smaller 8 oz steaks like I did to make dinner for two, I recommend asking for a single 1 lb steak. This way, you can more easily get a sear on the outside without overcooking the inside. Even though I overcooked the beef to a medium-well, it was so fatty and flavorful and juicy that it didn't matter at all. Even the fatty endpieces were delectable and soft and tender after being crisped up in a castiron pan. I'm definitely interested in coming back here and trying some of their less mainstream and less pricey cuts.

Yelp
Yeah - I agree on 5 star to quality of meat. Meat that I bought from this place has an extraordinary quality. I purchased 1 Wagyu NY strip & 1 Washugyu NY strip. Just removing 3 letter from its name makes everything different, quality, taste, and of course the price. They were both good. One who were rating dinner with me didn't like Wagyu, as it was too fatty for them. I meant that is reason why we eat Wagyu meat but I learned its not for everyone(just like otoro tuna), she liked Washugyu better. Washugyu also had some buttery fatty flavor and more texture of meat. Some one who doesn't like fatty - greasy foods then it might be better option to get Washugyu. They are much cheaper too. Price does seem very high thou. Getting one pound of Wagyu costed me $130, and I am not sure if this is reasonable price thinking about price of Wagyu(A5) you get from other restaurants. It is not much saving from having Wagyu from restaurant even thou you will need to do all cooking & cleaning. So I didn't really find it as an attractive option but will be going there whenever I find myself craving for Wagyu beef. It's actually great to have this kind of shop in the neighborhood.

Casey H.

Yelp
Great place for Wagyu. Staff was very nice and helpful, helped me pick the perfect steaks, and weighed everything a couple of times to make sure I got the best deal. Haven't tried the meat yet but they sure look amazing.

Yelp
The meat from this place reminds you that the Japanese are the most superior beings on this planet. Sounds excessive? Try the beef first, and talk to me later.

Yelp
Passed by this modern and clean looking meatshop. Ordered the marinated beef for $6.99 lb, ordered 1 lbs to try. Butcher was very polite. Went home and seared it for 1 minute each side since it was thin. Best beef I've had. Will save $1 a day to order the $65 lb aged beef.

Steven G.

Yelp
Picked up an A5 Miyazaki ribeye for a special occasion tonight. It was amazing - the most delicious thing I've cooked in years. And it wasn't outrageously expensive. Gem of a place. Will come back soon!

Yelp
What a great little shop in the east village. You get what you pay for. It's quality beef, top shop marbled steak and cuts, and it's at a price that reflects the quality. Don't come here if you have a tight budget, but know you won't be disappointed in your meal. I know very little about meat - I don't eat it frequently, but once in a while I'll crave it. Coming to a high end butcher shop like this can be intimidating but the workers were helpful. There was a language barrier, but they were able to figure out what cut and size I would be interested in getting. I purchased a NY wagyu NY strip. Aside from eating wagyu at restaurants, it was the best meat I've had at home. Anytime I'm looking to make steak at home, I think it's worth coming here to pick up the meat. I'll be back to try more cuts.

Yelp
If there wasn't any evidence prior to how spoiled I am, let this serve as the first piece in whatever demise to come, because this is the only butcher I'll agree to go to... save for when I cook for my Muslim friends (I go to a halal butcher for them). Yes, I'm a snob-- and after you try their marinated beef, you too, can be a snob, just. like. me. Now that it's BBQ season, it's time to show off them grill skills from those buzzfeed listicles everyone's guilty of reading. And we all know the best way to grill a burger-- is to make a steak. What Japan Premuim really delivers that other butchers can't are the uncommon cuts of meat and a marbling to make the Statue of David jealous. They have washugyu, berkshire pork belly, pork jowl... fuggin' pork jowl. If you haven't tried that yet, you're doing yourself a disfavor (It especially makes for great drunk food); it's an unpopular cut in America but that's only because we're slow on discovering true happiness. I mean... look who might become president. Anywhooooooo, what I'm particular fond of of this place are the pre-marinated sets. Those are usually on sale and ready to grill for a quick BBQ emergency. And because they're Japanese, they come in yakiniku flavors I'm so fond of. Little umami here, a little citrus there, it's fuggin' delicious. And the best part is, when I go to a friend's bbq, I look like a hero.

Yelp
I'm a wagyu fanatic and this place is heaven. Amazing staff, hip location, a myriad of meat from basic good quality to more indulgent and expensive. Something for everyone!

Yelp
First time buying from this shop and I was not disappointed! Got the ribeye around $55/lb, and pork belly around $12/lb. Had to buy an icepack for 50 cents since I had to take the train back to Penn and LIRR afterwards, did not want to risk the meat turning on a hot summer day! Saw some other steak at $130/lb, but it was oh so beautiful! Maybe for a special occasion! Put the steak on a pan and sprinkled some salt&pepper on medium high fire for about 3min each side (really depends on the thickness). The steak turned out nice and pink! Pork belly was great as week although it was a bit overcooked. Overall a great experience, will definitely go back eventhough the travel is a bit much.

Yelp
Oh, how I miss you. First time I walked by you, I wondered how long you could stay open. Little beef shop, selling ridiculous beef at ridiculous prices. Would not have known about you had you not been between my pad on the L.E.S. and NYU. But what a lovely affair it was when I was in NYC. Those crazy nights of shabu shabu orgasmic bliss. And you have done well for yourself, and in fact have a crazy neighbor. And now I yearn for you from so many miles away. Oh, how I tried to forget you and move on. I went out with that "kobe" or "wagyu" at the local markets. Some of those places demanded just almost the same amount of attention (read: wallet) as you did. Oh but what poor experiences they were. I'm in town again this week. Let's get together. In fact, let me figure out a way to package you and smuggle you on the plane ride back so I can introduce you to my mother.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here ever since it opened up. I believe it opened in the summer? This is the first Japanese retail butcher shop that has opened in NYC, so I was very excited when I stepped in here to find such variety of Washugyu cuts. Washugyu tenderloin, NY strip loin, rib eye, short rib, sirloin butt, flap meat, gyutan (cow's tongue), liver... ETC!~~!!! They even had dry-aged which was still hanging and will be ready in 2 weeks (11/21/09). I am very excited to try that... The guy there was also super friendly and super helpful, patiently answering every question I had while giving me insight about the place. They've been in the Kobe business for quite some time now (6 years), acting as distributors to all the restaurants in New York that serve Washugyu. This is their first retail store, as they wanted to provide Washugyu to all New Yorkers. How thoughtful of them eh? I wasn't really prepared to buy a very expensive cut of meat, so I decided to go with the flap meat (14.99/lb), according to the guy it's the belly portion similar to the flank steak. Yeah, it was one of the cheapest cuts there but hey.. when I cooked it at home (simple salt and pepper) it was UBER delicious with melt in your mouth tenderness. He sliced it up for me and also gave me a huge chunk of fat (looked like an eraser) and told me to oil the grill with this. He was pretty firm on not using any other type of oil (so serious..). I kept the leftover chunk of fat.. I used it to stir-fry veggies and make fried rice. YUMMILICIOUS :) My new favorite store.................

Yelp
Warning: This review is going to be awkward. I have never bought anything from here. I've never tasted anything from here. I've never even gone inside. Im the one standing outside, wistfully looking in, lustfully admiring the meat that I know I cannot afford, too intimidated to step through the doorway. Everything is so clean, so nice. The meats displayed like jewelry. Bloody, delicious, jewelry (okay, that sounded creepy. omit that last sentence). It is uber-reminiscent of the time I have spent in Japan (a time that I cherish). I hope that one day I can work up the courage to enter this store, throw down a wad of bills, order my meat, and consume it - instantly becoming a better person having consumed said meat. Some day...
google avatar

Yelp
OMG. Washugyu Tenderloin = Orgasm. Yes, its very pricey (usually around $50-60 per lb) But its like a really amazing woman (haha), she might be expensive. But its worth it. Buy it. Take it Home. Use the fat provided... oil up your iron cast grill (if you are like me, and Manhattanite without an outside grill). Fry it on the grill for about 30-40 seconds each side. Put it in the broiler at about 350 degrees for 2-3 minutes. Medium Rare. Or pretty rare. Do long if you want it more cooked, but watch it carefully. Then sit down, and taste the melt in your mouth goodness. Your life will never be the same.

Alan N.

Yelp
This place is the bomb. Please don't ever leave. Prices are really reasonable for wagyu a5 and wagyushu. This is even before factoring their service and their location. Wagyu a5 isnt for everyday steak eating. Its so fatty you need to cook it and eat it in certain ways. Their wagyushu, on the other hand, will make you never want to eat regular steaks ever again. The punchiness and juiciness of their cuts are totally worth the price of admission. Worth treating yourself at least once in a while.
google avatar

Jan Y.

Yelp
The beef here is wonderful! You get what you pay for and yes Wagyu is on the pricey side, but it's oh so GOOD! The quality is phenomenal and the marbling fat makes the steaks perfectly juicy. I love this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Best beef purveyor in the city. Very tasty! They also have specials / just ask if you don't see it.

Yelp
This is not your average butcher. Be ready to be amazed by the quality of the cuts of meat found here. I'm a true carnivore and I'm pretty sure this place is what heaven or at least what I think it would feel like. Probably your best bet of Japanese style raised beef or wagyu from Japan in New York City. I wouldn't recommend this place for amateur chefs, because the quality of meat here must be prepared correctly or it's a waste of your effort and money. There are many different styles of Japanese cuisine you can buy meat for such as: yakuniku, shabu shabu, bbq, steak, soup base, etc. Pieces of rib eye are pretty steep but the texture and marblization won me over instantly as I couldn't stop salivating. Too bad we went on New Year's Eve and they were sold out of the wagyu because that was why we went. I will definitely be back when they have it in store. I really liked that they sold cube foie gras here as well, take notes my Cali friends! Tip: Call ahead of time to make sure they have the type of meat you want.
google avatar

Alferd P.

Yelp
Everything that I have had from here has been outstanding. They run some great specials and the staff is extremely helpful. It is expensive but look at what they're selling. You can spend a lot more for the same meat elsewhere.
google avatar

Danny C.

Yelp
Clean butcher shop, pushing out straight fire. Highest quality in NYC. If you want wagyu this is the place. Other steaks are lovely as well. I still remember my skirt steak, beautiful marbling. Marvelous. Very knowledgeable staff. Quite pricey but we in NYC, if you cant ride then you're in the wrong place.
google avatar

Andrew R.

Yelp
Indescribable quality. Showed up at 3:30pm.. on 4th of July Monday. They had been closed since 2pm. The guys were inside and saw us looking through the window and we motioned to them "are you open?" One of them came outside and we pleaded with him to make us a quick cut. He was very nice and agreed. How's that for service!!? 2lb hunk of outside skirt in hand for a bit over $60 and we were off to the rooftop grill. ranks with the top beef I've ever eaten, anywhere. go here now.
google avatar

Yelp
Bought wagyu steak for my boyfriends birthday from here. Love this shop! They answer any questions you have even if you're an absolute amateur in the kitchen. Great great customer service and QUALITY MEAT!!! If I could afford it more often I WOULD. The star of the show is obviously in the center photo. Worth every penny.
google avatar

Yelp
Sorry to sound redundant, but this is the best steak I've ever had. Meat is super buttery and rich, tastes like beef and nothing short of what it should be. I came by to sample one steak, bought a 1/4 lb for under $15, went home and seasoned it and cooked it 2 minutes on each side on a cast iron skillet because it was a thin cut. I imagine the thicker slices are heavenly, but the thin slice was more than enough to get me hooked. I will never go to a steakhouse again. This is my go to place for steaks even if I have to cook them myself. Just want to note that the shop is very small, but I came on a late Sunday afternoon and a few folks were inside.
google avatar

Adelia L.

Yelp
I stopped by this shop on my way home from Mahattan. The statue of a cow grabbed my attention and brought me into this butcher shop. I'm so happy that I found this place where I Can get the premium, high quality cuts. Meat is buttery and rich, beef tastes like beef(you know what I mean if you always buy beef from your everyday supermarket) no hormone, no harmful chemicals that should never be found in our food. I bought a thin slice of ribeye(expensive indeed)seasoned it with papper and garlic salt. cooked both side for 2 mins. OMG!I'm in heaven!! So Yummy! Next time I'll buy more to share with my bf. This time, I just wanna be selfish. haha

Yelp
I've hopped in here a few times. I have to say, it's a bit intimidating if you're a total noob and haven't cooked high-grade Wagyu before. Don't be afraid to ask questions, I'm almost positive the butchers would rather you do all this amazing beef some justice in your kitchen than let it go to waste. This is the best butcher I've ever been to, hands down. I've bought sirloin, NY strip, ribeye and the wagyu here. It is unbelievable. I've never been more proud of my cooking skills after being able to (somewhat) perfectly prepare these cuts of meat. I was so scared to overcook these pieces of meat heaven but after doing thorough research and a bit of eyeballing, I probably cooked the best meal ever in my life (thanks to this butcher shop). I recommend getting 1/2 lb of Wagyu. It's probably enough for 3 people and the filet is thick enough for a better slices. The 1/4lb gets too thin, if you want to eat it sashimi style then that would be better. I also wouldn't consume JUST the Wagyu. It is very, very rich. I would get a ribeye or NY strip to go along with the Wagyu for variety. I really don't mind these prices at all because for the Wagyu addition to the Chef's tasting at Bouley, it's an additional $90 for 4 small slivers. Every time I am looking for my special occasion steak fix, I am coming here!

Yelp
I usually think it's pretty lame when people go to a fancy store and buy the absolute cheapest thing, just to show off that they "shop" there. Like a Gucci keychain, or those Marc Jacobs canvas tote bags that everyone has. Do you actually have any Marc Jacobs clothes? But times are tough, man, and I'm not paying $50/lb for fancy steak that I'll probably botch cooking. I will, however, pay $5/lb for fancy ground beef ("Washugyu, American Natural Kobe Style Beef"), that I turned into the best freaking cheeseburger I've ever made. The store itself is super-sleek and simple, which focuses your attention on each beautiful piece of perfectly cut and individually wrapped meat that you probably can't afford. The butcher (is this the right word, or is there a fancier word I should be using?) was very friendly and nice even though I was being an annoying cheapskate, and packed up my $5 purchase with ice in a cute black shopping bag, which I'll be sure to use to carry my lunch to work everyday so everyone knows I shop at Japan Premium Beef.

Yelp
I have a cold, and it's raining outside -- perhaps it wasn't the best idea to walk 77 streets and 7 avenues, but I was bored, had nothing better to do, and was desperately in search of comforting -- next week my life is being flipped entirely upside-down and until then I'm in need of constant distraction... I've walked by Japan Premium Beef a couple times in the past couple weeks, during my walking explorations of Little Italy and SoHo and Chinatown, but hadn't yet built up the nerve to puruse, that is until today -- with a hell-for-leather attitude, I finally got up the gumption. First thing's first, it's like stepping into a set from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey -- the scene in the glowing-room toward the end of the film (where Dave approaches the Monolith and becomes a free-floating fetus and, metaphorically, returns to and equals Mother Earth)... Perhaps I've said too much?... Anyway, needless to say, the storefront is is stark and austere, a thing of beauty of art -- and the service is phenomenally informative and patient. I bought some flank steak (to make a tartare with lots of shallots, topped with a quail egg, and capers and cornichon on the side), some tongue (to grill, and serve with lemon and wasabi, accompanied by steamed asparagus), and some ground meat (to make a hamburger patty, covered in Cabralles, with a side of roasted brussel sprouts) -- and, boy oh boy, let me tell you, I cooked this stuff as soon as I got home -- by the by, they packed it immaculately, perfect for my long walk back... Just moments ago I finished eating everything...A little fat, a little salt, a little pepper, and a hot frying pan -- that's all I needed to prepare three different dishes... Hot damn this stuff is really really good -- a very comforting meal for myself (I have a cold), extremely high quality meat, very little effort required, for $15... Pure bliss! I'll definitely be coming back. How soon, I cannot say. But whenever there's a special occasion, or next time I'm feeling under the weather (which, thankfully, is infrequently), you'll definitely be sure to find me here.

Yelp
BOOM! This place is off the chizzain. In my neverending quest for more absurdly decadent cuts of steak, I seem to have hit a roadblock here at Japan Premium Beef. Although the prices are equally absurd to match (around $50+ for a lb of ribeye/NY strip), the marbling and fat content on these bad boys is second to none that I've seen so far. I haven't been able to afford the steaks there yet, but we did stop in and buy 7 pounds of ground wagyu beef for football Sunday burgers a few weeks back and god DAMN if those weren't the juiciest burgers I've ever eaten. I also felt like I wanted to die after I ate mine, but that's directly correlated to the fact that I ate about a pound of ground beef which couldn't have been more than 60/40 ratio. Once I get a commission check, I WILL be back to you, oh Japan Premium Beef, and buy some ribeyes that will jock my cholesterol up to prehistoric levels.

Yelp
If you love cow and you cook, you must visit this butcher regardless of where you reside in Manhattan. Japan Premium Beef, arguably one of the best butchers in NYC, specializes in wagyu beef. Wagyu beef is comes from a specific breed of cattle whose meat is known for intense marbling causing the meat to be tender and juicy. Now, this world class meat comes at a steep price. A slab of Wagyu goes for $53 / lb. If you're on a budget like me, you can get the ground chuck for $5.50 / lb and make some of the luxurious meatballs or burgers ever. In addition to wagyu, JPB also sells other high end items like kurobuta pork and long island duck breast. So if you want to impress a date or eat like a King then visit JPB and purchase some of the best meats available to the public.

Yelp
You guys are the fucking best! My duty on new years eve was to make something from scratch and I didn't know what to make. I had some people to serve on New Years eve for dinner and virtually all of them liked my last minute idea of Washugyu beef meatballs on roasted potatoes. This place is the real deal. Tiny, elusive, and a small little shop that just specializies in prime cuts of beef. Furthermore, you don't need to an arm and a leg to purchase prime meats because the ground beef was only 4.99 a pound. NOT 45.99 A POUND. Yes I know you are hidden and whatnot BUT I WILL BE BACK. like what MacArthur said in WW2. p.s- Real men should shop here for beef. Ladies: please take note.

Yelp
I've just had the chop meat but I feel like Jules in Pulp Fiction, "This is a tasty burger". I do expect to try some of the other cuts soon but this is my go to chop meat for burgers going forward.

Yelp
After finding out about this place, I never ever bothered ordering wagyu at the restaurants anymore; It's just not worth it. I don't normally cook but cooking this is a piece of cake. The butcher even teaches you how to cook them to perfection. Did I mention that the butcher wears a tie?

Yelp
Great Jones has to be the coolest street in town. I first noticed this place last summer after getting a haircut just up the street. I was struck by the way this shop looked: minimalism, squeaky clean, bloody red meat and white everywhere else. I thought it was a gallery exhibition. A few days later I came by to buy some steaks. The butcher, who was in a white shirt with a black tie was very helpful, he got the cuts I wanted within my budget, gave me a piece of beef fat and cooking instructions, which I religiously followed. The result was an amazing steak dinner. The meats are pricey here but there are deals to be had. Plus, if you tell the butcher your budget he'll help you to get exactly what you want. Buying beef has never been cooler.

Yelp
This is a tiny little shop that's easy to miss (I hadn't even heard of Great Jones Street before coming here, and I've done a lot of wandering throughout Manhattan the last 3.5 years), but what a delightful little spot this is. If you're looking for amazing cuts of tender, succulent beef, there is no need to look further than this shop. It brands itself as selling 'Washugyu', which is basically Kobe-style beef that is raised in Oregon. My girlfriend and I picked up one pound of ribeye. Granted, at $50/lb, it's quite a bit more than the steak at your local grocery store, but it is more than worth the extra price. We seared the steak on a cast-iron grill for 5 minutes on each side, then stuck it in the oven to broil at the end with a crusting of ground-up porcini mushrooms. End result: a savory, aromatic steak that required no additional sauces and looked/tasted/smelled amazing. You want a perfectly marbled steak that will taste like perfection at medium-rare? This is where you want to go. We'll definitely be back to check out some of the other cuts, but what a gem. The shop owner is pretty nice and gave us his recommendation of the cuts - we'll probably try the tenderloin next time!

Yelp
Because sometimes I don't want to order from Snake River Farms or Japan. My go-to spot for meat when I make shabu-shabu or suki-yaki. The steaks are all pretty tasty (similar to SRF), but don't really compare to beef from Japan (see http://item.rakuten.co.jp/mouriya/c/0000000107/ for an example), though they are much cheaper! Haven't tried the dry-aged yet but will soon to see how it compares with jeffrey's, ottomanelli's, florence, etc. Their ground beef is delightfully beefy. As far as I know it is the only spot in the city to get the "pate" for making Japanese hamburger steak. The marinated beef is a deal and a half when on sale. The in-house items (meatloaf, miso-cured beef, whatever else the butcher feels like making), are all delicious and worth trying. Next time, pork. Tip: Because meat is sliced to order and there's usually just one guy working it can be super slow when there are more than one or two customers. Call in your order or come during the afternoon to avoid waiting.

Yelp
Super clean working space, super clean store. Price is fair. Probably the best meet shop you can find in NYC that is selling Wagyu beef.
