Our experience at Hotel Jardim da Batalha was extremely disappointing from the moment we arrived. The official check-in time of 15:00 is already unusually late, yet when my wife and I arrived at 15:20, soaked after heavy rain, our room was still not ready.|The receptionist attempted to compensate by sending us to a nearby rooftop restaurant with a “discount card.” This only worsened the situation. The restaurant staff were rude and relocated us twice after we were already seated. We left and found another restaurant. Given how strongly the hotel promotes this restaurant, it is hard not to assume some kind of business relationship. If so, the hotel should seriously reconsider recommending a place that treats guests so poorly.|When we returned and tried to give the discount card back, the receptionist became defensive and unpleasant. Instead of addressing the issue, she insisted we keep the card and repeatedly emphasized that she had offered us a glass of wine, as if that somehow compensated for the experience. We do not drink alcohol, making her reaction irrelevant and dismissive.|The room itself was unacceptable. Initially, there were no curtains at all on the old windows, only blinds that offered little privacy or light control. Ironically, curtains were installed only on the last day of our stay, which says enough on its own. The bathroom design was equally problematic: glass doors for both the shower and the toilet, with the toilet door not even closing fully, leaving virtually no privacy.|Even worse, the WC was covered with ants, clearly visible in the photos attached. The receptionist addressed this by spraying insecticide inside the bathroom. While the ants disappeared, we were then forced to breathe the strong smell of chemicals instead. This is not a solution, it is another problem.|I am 62 years old, and due to the nature of my work I have visited 67 countries and stayed in more hotels than I can count. I genuinely cannot remember a worse overall experience, particularly when it comes to cleanliness, privacy, and basic guest care.|The only positive aspects of this hotel were the fairly good breakfast and the very kind lady serving it. She was the sole bright point during our stay.|Late check-in, poor room conditions, hygiene issues, an inappropriate restaurant recommendation, and unprofessional handling of complaints made this stay deeply unpleasant. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this hotel.
