On the Grid : Jardim da Estrela

"The real name of the garden is Guerra Junqueiro Garden, but everyone calls it Jardim da Estrela. It is the relaxing spot of Campo de Ourique and other neighborhoods (like Lapa and Estrela). Sunny in winter and fresh in the summer, you can just relax or visit the markets that take place on weekends." - Fluor

11 Great Things to Do in Lisbon with Kids

"Across the street from the Basilica da Estrela is this charmer of a park—one of the most popular in Lisbon—where people stroll past the duck pond (or linger over lunch at the cafe alongside) and watch live music at the bandstand in the summer. We beelined for the kids’ playground, a marvel in itself with larger-than-life giraffes and lions serving as the framework for the slides and jungle gym. It felt like a local hangout, where (very well-dressed) Lisbon parents would gather on weekends." - Laura Dannen Redman

This place is heaven! One of the most beautiful parks I've seen by far. It's full of nature and also some animals, mostly birds. The place is perfect for a weekend picnic, a chilly eventing, yoga, hangouts and more. Thank you Lisbon for this amazing green gem!

Stunning park in the heart of Lisbon. Absolutely stunning. Full of beautiful plants and flowers, ponds and statues. Benches everywhere and the wonderful Banana Cafe inside which sells burgers and sandwiches, drinks and other refreshments where you can dine alfresco

Definitely one of the most loveliest gardens in Lisbon, if you come here for a few days, I would strongly recommend to see this place. Very cool for pet owners and children hence the park has playgrounds and a huge space for dogs to enjoy. Also, it’s a very good place just to meet and chill or enjoy your day in serenity.

I recently spent a peaceful afternoon at Jardim da Estrela in Lisbon, and it quickly became one of my favorite spots in the city. Located directly across from the grand Basílica da Estrela, this romantic-style park was inaugurated in 1852 and offers a refreshing blend of history, nature, and community life. The park spans 4.6 hectares and features winding paths shaded by exotic trees like jacarandas and ginkgoes, as well as beautifully maintained flower beds and small lakes with ducks and turtles. One of the standout features is the wrought-iron bandstand, originally built in 1884 and relocated here in 1936, which adds a touch of old-world charm. Families and locals gather here, especially on weekends, to enjoy the playgrounds, picnic areas, and the café with outdoor seating that serves light meals and drinks. The park is free to enter and open daily from 7 am to midnight, making it an accessible and welcoming space for everyone. Whether you're looking to relax, take a leisurely stroll, or immerse yourself in a bit of Lisbon's history, Jardim da Estrela offers a serene and delightful escape from the city's hustle and bustle.

The garden is truly magnificent. For the past several months, we have spent an hour here every afternoon, strolling and unwinding. The vibrant colors of the flowers, the soothing rustle of the leaves, and the gentle warmth of the sun create an atmosphere of pure serenity.

🌿 A Peaceful Oasis in the Middle of Lisbon ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) We stumbled upon Jardim da Estrela on a warm afternoon, and it turned out to be one of the most peaceful and refreshing places we visited in Lisbon. It’s more than just a public park — it feels like a little urban sanctuary. The garden is beautifully maintained, filled with exotic plants, huge trees offering generous shade, and winding paths that invite you to slow down. What really stood out for me was the birdsong — there were so many birds, and their constant, melodic chirping made the whole place feel like a live sound bath. It’s incredibly soothing. If you have the time, don’t just walk through. Find a quiet corner, sit down, breathe, and maybe even meditate. This place is perfect for that. It’s not just visually calming, it actually sounds calming too. There are also benches, fountains, a lovely gazebo, and a charming little café nearby if you want to sit and sip something while watching the world go by. Families, joggers, solo readers, and locals chatting on benches all seem to coexist naturally here. It has a very authentic Lisbon energy — not overly touristy, just real life unfolding in a gorgeous setting. Quick Ratings: Atmosphere: 10/10 Birdsong & Nature Vibe: 10/10 Relaxation Potential: 11/10 Accessibility: 10/10 Instagram View: 8.5/10 Highly recommend making time for it — especially if you’re feeling overstimulated by the city. It’s the kind of place that quietly resets your mood. If this helped, I’d love a 👍 — and don’t forget to breathe deeply when you visit. 🌿✨

Yelp
Sightseeing in Lisbon isn't easy. Lisbon is one of the hilliest cities I've ever been to. It's not quite San Francisco but it's in the running. After a long day of walking around, my legs and feet felt like spaghetti. That's why it's nice to take a break throughout the day and relax a little bit. That's exactly what I did at Jardim de Estrela. This is a large park with plenty of trails, vegetation, and benches. I took advantage of the beauty and meditated here. Beyond the sights, there are several statues throughout the park to check out and learn some history. There are also a bunch of ducks and geese that hang out by the lake. The geese are huge! I'm not sure what they feed them in Portugal but we're talking mutant geese. If you're willing to hang out with mutant geese, this is a relaxing spot to spend some time at.

Yelp
We loved this place! We were going to the Estrela church but mass was just beginning so we walked across the street and found this charming park. It was raining, so it was just us, the ducks and geese and a few dog walkers. It was so peaceful and beautiful. The trees here are enormous and beautiful. It's a lovely place to sit and relax. Plenty of places to stop for coffee and plenty of sculptures to admire.

Yelp
Beautiful gardens to stroll after a meal or to get a little shade. There are plenty of places to sit and relax as well as a couple of little cafes for food and drinks. There are also places for kids to climb and play and water fountains for drinking. The grounds are kept up well and you can smell wonderful wafts of honeysuckle blowing in the air.

Yelp
Beautiful place! I habe been here several times to just sit on a bench and read a book. There are a few little Cafes to sit outside as well. If you are lucky you will see the guy on his bike, listening to loud music while driving around in the park:))
