Best Things to Do in Buenos Aires

"Carlos Thays Botanical Garden The red-gravel paths that wind among 6,000 plant species, past a babbling stream, and into deeply shaded areas may make you forget you’re in the center of a loud, bustling city. That said, many visitors don’t know that the Botanical Garden includes a small butterfly garden. It’s closed during the week, but you can still peek over a low wall to watch some 50 butterfly species flit about their business. And for one glorious hour, from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, the gate is thrown open and the public is free to walk sunny paths among shoulder-high flowering hedges as colorful, flirtatious butterflies alight on amused visitors’ heads, shoulders, and arms. Beautiful garden with places to sit and enjoy the plantings, water features, and sunlight. The sculpture throughout is stunning and thoughtfully placed in surroundings that echo the shape and mood of the art. This garden is a true gem and it is free so there's no reason not to go!

A must visit location. It’s a compact botanical garden that is just perfect if you want to see grand examples of mature trees clustered according to continent. The Oceania section was amazing with the lemon scented gum giving if its eponymous fragrance to the locality. There is compact and ornate period conservatory, unfortunately closed for maintenance at the time of our visit.

A very nice park in Buenos Aires — it’s incredibly spacious and almost feels like a maze with all its winding paths and hidden corners. It’s the perfect place to escape the busy city for a while. There are plenty of pretty views, lots of greenery, and a really peaceful atmosphere considering you’re right in the middle of an urban area. Whether you’re going for a walk, relaxing with a book, or just enjoying nature, it’s a lovely spot to spend some time.

A very nice botanic garden with wide variety of plants from all over the world, also quite a few sculptures.

A guitarist playing harmoniously under the trees. A quiet fountain that held my son’s full attention. That’s the kind of beauty we found at the Jardín Botánico Carlos Thays. We arrived late morning, just as the city started to slow down. It was easy to get there by bus, and once inside, it felt like the pace of the day shifted. No crowds, no noise. The gardens aren’t overly sculpted or dramatic. They’re subtle, almost restrained. We learned a bit about native Argentine plants like Yerba Mate. It’s a short walk from there to the Japanese Gardens, which made for a lovely, quiet rhythm to the afternoon. This isn’t a destination built to impress in loud ways. But it left a memorable impression.

Incredibly beautiful park. Free. Stunning birds. It is next to (part of?) a zoo however, so once I accidentally lapsed into the side of the gardens, it completely took away from the experience and felt pretty bleak. 4 stars with the hope the two are owned somewhat separately

When it's time for some quiet calm in the middle of the city, head to the Botanical Gardens. Very well maintained and full of a diverse selection of trees and plants from around the world laid out geographically. Plenty of shaded benches for relaxing contemplation.

It’s a pretty small park. There are some trails to walk around and many bench to see and enjoy the surrounding. The main building with tropical plants is closed for renovation. The entrance to the park is free.
