"In Oaxaca, I have to be a bit of a tourist. Visiting the botanical gardens, El Jardin Botanico de Santo Domingo, is a must; the plants, flowers, and varieties never cease to inspire my designs."

The Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca is a beautiful and tranquil garden that offers a unique glimpse into the region's rich botanical and cultural heritage. Established to showcase the diverse native plants and their traditional uses by indigenous communities, the garden serves as both a botanical and ethnobotanical educational space. There was no entrance fee, which makes it an excellent value, though please note that there are no guided tours available at the moment—I'm not sure if this is a recent change. We spent about 30 minutes exploring the gardens, and it was a very enjoyable experience. The scenery is stunning, and considering it’s free, it’s definitely worth the time. Parking nearby was convenient as well. Overall, a lovely spot to relax, learn about Oaxaca’s indigenous flora, and appreciate nature.

Very pretty gardens in the middle of the city. They don’t allow self-guided tours, so make sure to arrive 30 mintues before the tour time as capacity is limited. My tour did not have a ticket price, nor did the guide explain any of the plants. We had plenty of time (almost too much time) to wander and take pictures.

Must show up at least 30-45 minutes early to line up. We were turned away. The space is limited and fills up fast. Very beautiful. But, when we went, the group was only allowed to see certain parts of this large enclosure. Not sure it it was do to a limited staff at this time.

Great scenic mini adventure in the heart of Oaxaca. We arrived a few minutes before they opened and had the chance to go on a short but beautiful walk through the botanical garden. Our tour group was small and the guide was attentive. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a quick activity in Oaxaca!

The place itself - beautiful! A dream!! If you’re in artist this is tour place to be! The problem is when I was there I had to wait for 30 minutes to then go in and have to walk around in a group, look around in one spot for 10 minutes and leave. Maybe it was just that day! But I feel like they could do so much more with the space and let people explore and enjoy it!

If you want to experience this slice of Mexican paradise, be sure to arrive early—around 4:20 PM—to join the 5:00 PM tour group. Trust me, there’s much more to see than just the popular Espejo de Agua (reflecting pool). Fifteen minutes won’t do it justice—you’ll want time to soak in the full beauty and cultural richness of the garden. This place is steeped in history, and it’s up to you whether you take the time to truly explore or simply snap the perfect selfie. Either way, it’s absolutely worth a visit if you’re in Oaxaca.

One of my favorite experiences in Oaxaca! I arrived 4:45pm and they sat us in chairs to give us our tickets (50 pesos). I think there were 2 groups of 30. My group start at 4:58pm and the other group maybe a bit after 5pm. Arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of the tour times to get a spot. The tour is usually 40-45 minutes, but mine was a bit over an hour because my group asked lots of questions. Our guide (I forget her name) was very knowledgeable and answered everyone's questions in detail. Tours are only in Spanish according to the sign at the entrance. The guide spoke very clear and at a good speed that I understood maybe 90% as someone who's not entirely fluent yet. We were never rushed and were allowed to spend time taking photos along all the paths and then catch up with the group. At the end, we had 15 minutes to take photos at the cactus walls and with the reflective pond. Everyone was nice taking photos for each other. There's multiple walkways with the cacti, so you don't have to wait long for your turn at one of them. I also liked seeing the sky change colors at the end of the tour because sunset was starting.

We went there during the dry season so the garden wasn't as nice as expected and seen from photos. But it was still nice to visit and you need to do a guided tour which takes approximately 1 hour. You need to be there in advance to get the chance for a spot in the tour, I think it's a maximum of 30 people. You can't book tickets in advance.
