Jardins Secrets, Nimes, France - Explore & Book

"Stepping through an unassuming green door on an unimpressive city street, you find yourself breathless in an enchanted garden. There’s a banana tree in the corner, oranges and lemons grow in another. Bougainvillea streaks across the walls, a shield of bamboo shuts out the world beyond. Flanked by crisply dressed loungers and stone urns, the salt-water pool is shaded at one end by olive branches, fat with fruit; you can pick and swim and eat at the same time. Breakfast is taken on the shaded wooden tables on a brick terrace; at night lanterns illuminate the garden and pool. As for the interior, it's luxury to the power ten: cavernous claw-foot baths, enormous beds wrapped in the crispest linen, gilt-framed mirrors and chandeliers in the bathrooms. Murals, numerous salons, a sweeping staircase, oils on the walls, smouldering logs, three grand pianos, Toile de Jouy fabrics, Farrow and Ball paints, and marble fireplaces. The sounds of songbirds fill the halls, and the air is heavy with scents from the spa. This is what we imagine a desert oasis founded by 19th-century royal explorers to be like. Highs Nîmes is packed with history, and it’s only 5 minutes’ walk to the perfectly preserved Roman temple and amphitheatreWe could have spent hours lazing in the lush, peaceful garden with its cool pool Wildly opulent interiors and bedrooms designed with incredible attention to detailIt radiates history and grandeur, and makes a wonderfully romantic bolthole The spa, which can only be booked in its entirety, is simply magical Lows It's often full, so it’s worth booking ahead in the summer months Breakfast and light meals are pricey, but there are plenty of cafés and restaurants nearby The train station is 500m away; occasionally you hear a train passSome find the rooms to be a little dark and stuffy, and the decor is not to everyone’s taste" - Tom Bell

"Dating back a few years before Christ, Nîmes is a city of antiquity — Roman ruins, aqueducts, an amphitheater, dripping grottoes, temples, terraced gardens, crumbling towers, fountains, etc. — with a storybook feel quite unlike the countrified gentility of the rest of small-village Provence. It’s more mysterious and cerebral; think Édouard Manet instead of Claude Monet and you’ll get the idea. So while a softly lit, lilting panache defines its peers, the tiny Jardins Secrets rises gamely to the challenge of embodying that complex atmosphere." - Tablet Hotels

Well worth a visit. The whole place is just wonderful and not too big with relaxing shaded intimate areas, and lovely to get lost in. The architecture is impressive, at times quirky, and provides a great backdrop to the flourishing, healthy plants and colourful flowers. Very well maintained and a warm welcome. A must see is the short film about the family and how the gardens were created. I will be back!

Magnificent. A piece of fairytale. A jewel in the middle of nowhere. The owners, founders were there, still taking care of in the age of 80 years old. Great place that everyone should experience. Be there min for 2h to enjoy and relax.

Fascinating little place. Amazing use of space. A little busy at lunch time. You may have to queue for lunch (or maybe we were just unlucky). Staff very friendly and spoke English.

So, so worth it. Swiss woodworking meets a Moroccan riad, through a Persian garden and a decent slice of the Lord of the Rings. Stay for lunch. Listen to the fountains. Get lost in the open covered galleries. This outstrips most palace gardens I've seen. Seriously magnifique.

This is a story is a family in love with wooden furniture. The place is cozy and excellent for lunch on sunny days. I have mixed feelings about this place. In one hand it is amazing how come a family was able to build all this with their own hands. On the other side we have a mix of so many styles that I really don't know if Inlike or not. Would suggest you visit and let me know your opinion.

Mix of kitchen garden greens and flowers with Moroccan riad type of concept. While nice on flora, not for everyone. A bit too much, stuffed with old or quasi old items all over.

Very lovely but don’t expect the place to be peaceful and quiet. Very very busy when we went and it was far from relaxing

Lovely as usual, beautiful flowers and spaces even mid September. If you don't linger, the visit lasts about an hour, with a ten min english subtitled explanation movie, but take your time and take a nice break 💜
