At 11.45am and no booking on a Saturday morning, well they managed to seat me down but my table is booked for 12.30pm. No time to linger and no all day breakfast?!
The closest dish I can select as 'breakfast' would be the the potato langos, a Hungarian fried flat bread with smoked salmon, dill and sour cream, and more importantly the coffee came promptly soon after the order. Well done, I needed the coffee then more than food.
The U shaped bench at one end of the dining room all painted white and the white tiled walls up to the ceiling gave the dining room the 'clean' look at that end of elongated dining room.
There are the usual dining tables near the entrance and to the other side of the dining room near the cakes cabinet.
Jars of preserved lemons and pickles on the shelf just above the big servery of the open kitchen gave that homely look to the restaurant.
I was told the langos are light even though they are fried and worth the try. Unfortunately I find they are a tad greasy and some of the batter did not quite cooked through. Disappointing really but there were plenty of sour cream and dill to drown the grease. They were 'light' as told.
Couldn't resist the temptation of a burger and asked if I could have that to take away. The attentive cheerful waitress promptly advised that everything on the menu can be packaged to take away, nice to know!
The burger was sumptuous with thick lean juicy beef patty with just slices of pickles, relish, a leaf of lettuce and few strands of fried onions in a nice soft bun. Perfect to my liking. Not much carb but plenty of protein! The relish had a hint of spice, went well but would have liked another lettuce leaf.
Chris Jarmer seems to do better here in Bowden than in DJ? The clientele is definitely different and with the up and coming development in the precinct, this is all about location location! Being right on a busy thoroughfare, and plenty of parking on Park Terrace, I would say there may be few drop ins for some quick take aways during the course of the day?
The outer Bowden residents are now flocking to this popular restaurant, what will happen once the development is complete? It must be a big draw card for the sales of the development having this casual dining place right in the thick of it.
