First, I would like to clarify that I am only writing about the Restaurant that belongs to the hotel; I went there for lunch. I also express my full understanding regarding the difficulty of running a restaurant in these unpredictable times. More on that later.
To start off on a positive note, the food was excellent, although pricey. The garden is very picturesque and the general atmosphere calming.
However, there was also a major issue: I waited more than 90 minutes for my food. This would not have been a problem if the staff had thought to advise me beforehand. Or if they had brought something other than the standard appetizer (20 minutes into the wait) and a few pieces of bread. Or if they had actually expressed understanding and apologised properly. But all I got was a half-hearted excuse.
Here, I want to make clear that I would not currently expect a restaurant to operate at normal speed, and that this would have been much less of a problem if the waiters or management had dealt with it properly. But if I am going to pay well over 30€ for a single-course meal, it is unacceptable for me to have to wait for 15 minutes in 30° heat until the waiter thinks to even bring the menu and ask if I would like some water. Unfortunately, that's what happened. And it was not due to understaffing; each waiter was handling maybe 3 or 4 tables at most, a perfectly reasonable workload.
Posting this review almost feels unfair to the cooks and other kitchen staff, because the food was genuinely great. So if you are reading this in 2023 or so, go ahead and eat at this restaurant! But if COVID is still around, prepare to deal with unapologetically incompetent and slow service and management that is going to need 10 minutes minimum to bring you a bottle of water. And it is not unfair to expect significantly more than that from such an expensive place.
