Amazing place, was in town on business, the outside was so inviting I had to stop in, best pastries I’ve had in a while. I took a bunch with me loved every one of them, the coffee bar system is amazing, coffee bar is self serve so I don’t have to feel like I need to know a different language to order coffee, large number of choices, can’t wait to come back. A+

Google
Loved the food and service. The atmosphere was eclectic and cozy. However, one of the employees must have had their kids sitting there while they were on the clock. One of the kids was on the phone and had it on speaker. They were talking with someone using crude and gross language. I asked them to turn it down or hang up. They kept talking and I walked up and asked again. When the kid started cursing at me, I went to an employee. They couldn't control their kids who kept cursing, throwing things and yelling even when they went outside. Shameful representative of this business for a first time customer. For someone who plans on being in the area for a long time, there are many other options in the area

It's a great spot to grab and coffee and catch up with friends in a unique casual environment. Check out the shopping area while waiting for your food!

Google
Great place highly recommend! Drink option are wide and quality is good. I’m partial to their chia tea. I had them mix in a bit of cherry this last time and I can’t wait for another one. The location is great downtown on main super cute area with a lot of shops near by. Parking can be limited but there is a little lot near by. Inside is super cute and changes often enough. There is plenty to look at while you wait for you order. I recommend their sandwiches and salads too!

Google
Lots of options for both food and beverages. Lots of neat merchandise for purchase from baby stuff to children to adults...even something for the more edgy minded adults. Cool atmosphere! I chose a featured fall flavor, the pumpkin french toast latte and tried my spouse's which was the bourbon carmel latte. Both are very good. My only regret is that I didn't get a larger size when I ordered. I went back later for dessert and we had the chocolate lasagna, coconut cream pie and a cake pop. So many options it was hard to choose just a couple but what we got was fantastic!

Google
As someone who drinks decaf, I really appreciate how good their decaf coffee is. The line can be a little long, but since it's basically the only shop in town, it's understandable. The food is good but basically, but the prices are very reasonable. Avocado toast was half the price and twice as much as my old local coffee place a few years ago in Illinois.

Google
Was walking by this establishment after visiting the Mark Twain Museum & had to go in. The layout is beautifully designed & the atmosphere is wonderful. I had a turkey avocado sandwich & chai tea. Both were delicious. I’m a big fan of sandwiches & the one I had was very satisfying. I truly enjoyed being here. I was just passing through town, but would Love A reason to turn around and come back. On TT @j2hobo

Wonderful freshly made to order sandwiches, salads, wonderful soups, and amazing baked goods (pies, cookies, pastries). Friendly staff and fun dininging room with funky vibe. Free wifi. The freshly brewed ice tea hits the spot. I give 5 stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Yelp
First time visiting Hannibal and I stumbled upon Java Jive and instantly obsessed. The inside was so cozy and filled with trinkets. The menu was awesome for a lunch spot. We tried the soup, sand which and a wrap. They all were so good. On the way out, we got a coffee and pasty which was a homemade pop tart and almond joy iced latte. The service was great and the atmosphere was even better. Now if I return to Hannibal, I know what will be on the list to stop at.

Yelp
My first "office" of the day, I spent five hours at a table towards the back of the store with a coffee and a laptop and their Internet. Comfortable, mostly quiet and a good space. I bought a coffee and included a refill. The coffee was excellent. Tempted by a croissant, I managed to stick to my program and just drink the coffee. Great space, friendly folks and as the main coffee shop along the center of Hannibal, quite busy. [Review 19724 overall - 201 in Missouri - 696 of 2023.]

Yelp
I had their vegan Thai peanut wrap (added chicken), and it was amazing. Came with hummus and pita chips... delish! Perfect lunch! Service was great, friendly, helpful. Food fresh and healthy.

Yelp
Adorable coffee shop painted with all the fun colors, inside and out. This was our first stop as we drove into town (imagine that), you could tell this store was loved by locals as much as travelers. We picked out a few trinkets while we waited for our coffee order. Great little gift store inside. The cold rainy day could've had us hunkered down inside, but with only a day to explore we sat for a moment in one of the hodgepodge chairs and made a plan. I ordered the Snickers and the Husband ordered the Almond Joy. Warm and delicious. A bit on the sweet side for me as a normal drink, but could always alter it with the nice baristas. The perfect small town coffee shop!

Yelp
LOVED the bacon cream cheese toast! The sausage quiche was very eggy, light on sausage, cheese, and flavor. My husband got the potato wrap. He thought he ordered the potato bowl, but something was miscommunicated. Oh well. He liked the wrap. You order at the counter, grab a table, and wait for a buzzer to let you know your food is ready. Then you go to the back of the store area to get your food. No one comes around to offer drink refills or check on you. Fun and quirky place! We'd definitely go again!

Yelp
Awesome vibes! Great selection of drinks and snacks. The gift shop has a lot to offer and is unique. Wide open space to sit and enjoy.

Yelp
This is such a great find! Our second time here (a couple years between visits), and food/service still top notch. Check out their menu for the full array, but salads, bowls, wraps, etc--plus a variety of coffee/tea options, desserts & boba too. Plus--fun things to shop as well! A variety of searing options--great for families, groups, or singles looking to sit & read!

Yelp
We stopped in for an iced coffee in the morning, went back for a great selection of tasty sandwiches for lunch, then back again for the cheesecake that was calling our name all day. Everything was great including the cute mismatched tables, chairs on the sidewalk to enjoy Main St. and friendly staff at the counter.

Yelp
Stopped in Hannibal as we were headed back to KC. Fun little downtown area with color and character charm. The service was good and the flow of traffic pretty steady causing us a bit of a wait on our drinks but the old time soda shop pharmacy feels had plenty of memorabilia to look through as we waited. Our Coffee choices were pretty simple ones but they were good.

Gayle J.

Yelp
Food was cold and has no flavor at all. It's self service- so there's that. Trying to be a quirky Coffeen shop / bookstore place. Not sure how they stay in business. Staff has attitude- like as a visitor you should know how it works. Your northern Missouri, not east coast urban

Yelp
A hidden jewel in Historical Hannibal.. awesome food and the atmosphere was great. Price was right.

Yelp
Such a fun place! We stopped in for coffee and boba. Great value, fun vibes. Worth the stop!

Yelp
Hell of a place, got the broccoli cheddar soup and it was incredible!!! Would definitely recommend this place to start of your day

Emily N.

Yelp
We stayed in an air bnb downtown and walked here every morning for breakfast and i even grabbed lunch there one day. Lots to look at while you wait for your food. The menu has some great options - healthy or indulgent, they have something for you! They sell my favorite teas (republic of tea) and my daughter loved the frappe ones....

Yelp
My mother, my wife, and I saw this place last Saturday in between the Mark Twain Museum Gallery and the Mark Twain Boyhood Home so we stepped inside and ordered lunch and drinks. This place claims to be the first coffee house west of the Mississippi which we believed given how well kept their historic building is but the website says it was established in 2000. Anyways, there are plenty of amazing food and drink options and a great deal of comfortable seating as well. My wife and I shared a Red Velvet Latte and a a Cotton Candy Lotus to drink with a Turkey Chipotle Panini with an Orzo Pasta Salad on the side and a half and half of the Pollock Salad and Frida Sandwich. They also have great vegetarian options which my mother enjoyed. The service was fast and friendly. This is definitely a great surprise for such a small town and we highly recommend it for anyone coming to Hannibal or stopping by.

Yelp
Delicious food, quick and friendly. Great comfortable place! Java Jive wonderful assortment.

Yelp
A quaint little coffee joint filled with color and surprises. Many trinkets and treasures, great for a birthday gift! The funfetti blonde was divine and the coffee was smooth as cocoa. Made our day. service was friendly as well.

Yelp
I stopped by here earlier today. It is a super cute location and such a wonderful aesthetic. It really gave me such a good vibe. The outside is super colorful and inside has so many knickknacks and books to buy. They have indoor seating at little cute tables also outdoor seating. And they only have street parking. There is so much stuff to look at inside. They have coffee, ice cream, pastries, soups and sandwiches. I ordered a vanilla iced coffee which was super good. I also ordered a soup of the day which was a cabbage roll soup. I absolutely loved it. They also gave me a little roll and some crackers. I had also ordered one of their apple crumb cream cheese slices. I am not a big fan of apple slices in my desserts but this was so good. The apple crumb on top and the crust of it was so bomb. I will totally be going back to this place. It is going to turn to my go to place while I am here.

Yelp
Vulcan dark roast is great. They give you a cup you fill yourself, and the line to get a cup to fill myself was short so service was good. The ambiance looked like an interesting place but I didn't sit down.

Lisa L.

Yelp
Thus was such a great place to go. Something for everyone one. We got a coffee, and a lotus. Sat for awhile and relaxed. Will go back when in town. GreT list of food also.

David B.

Yelp
Good food n a caffeine fix and a variety of non caffeine drinks also. Seasonal items make it a treat to visit throughout the year. I remember open mike nights when they first started with a local eclectic setting.
google avatar

Carlie A.

Yelp
Excellent coffee in a very cool atmosphere. Lots of places inside and outside to sit, and lots of items to browse while you wait. Did not get any food but saw that all their sandwiches can be made gluten free!
google avatar

Julie A.

Yelp
Delicious desserts served here! We had chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting, German chocolate pecan pie, and shipwreck ice cream. All three were fantastic, and very large servings- perfect to share! The employees were very sweet and helpful- and patient- it took us awhile to decide on our order because there is A LOT to choose from! The restaurant also serves wraps and other foods which looked fabulous, too. The entire restaurant was super peaceful and a pleasant, quiet space to visit and dine. There is real art on the walls and an eclectic assortment of furniture available. You can sit in an area with leather furniture that feels like a living room, a dining table, a high top old fashioned ice cream table, or any number of other spaces.

Yelp
I love this place. My favorite coffee shop in Hannibal. They have the best coffee in town. I love going here because their baristas are super nice and the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. Not only do I recommend the coffee but, I also recommend their food as well. This place is a must if you are a local or a tourist

Yelp
This was our first visit to Hannibal, and while we enjoyed walking through downtown, we actually came over to walk through Sodalis Nature Reserve. After our walk we stopped by Java Jive for lunch. I ordered the Harper Lee Wrap and was asked if I would like to upgrade the chips to a side salad. Ummmm, yes please. On a side note, I am always a little leery about side salads in restaurants only because there may not be anything worse than getting a small plate of iceberg bag salad and a plastic packet of Kraft dressing. But I figured, I was gambling with a chips substitution so I went for it. My gambling returns were pretty big this time as I received a healthy portion of leafy greens with some vegetables and homemade croutons in a take out box. Not to mention the delicious chipotle ranch dressing on the side that may have been house made. If it wasn't, I was fooled. The wrap was fresh and filling. I had no problem eating all of it, but I sure could've saved some for later. My husband got the Rockwell sandwich and thought it was delicious. The meats and cheeses were most definitely piled high and served in between two thick, fresh slices of bread. I also enjoyed browsing the items on display in the store area. Local artisans show off their wares and you can tell they are crafted with love. All in all, this was a great place to stop for lunch. I'm glad we did. The girls working the front counter were very personable which contributed to this 5 star review. Whoops. My husband reminded me to mention the chocolate chip cookie that he got for dessert. He said it was just soft enough to be perfectly delicious.

Yelp
I drink coffee here most every day. Baristas are friendly and drinks are excellent. Cozy atmosphere and a wide selection of gift type merchandise is available.

Anabelle L.

Yelp
Good food, the place has a really good vibes. Option for vegetarian as well. The decoration is very well done

Yelp
Had cold brew with a sugar free flavoring. Just wish they had more sugar free flavorings. The cold brew itself is pretty good. But that Cannoli Cream Pie? Unbelievably GOOD!!! And a really cute place.

Yelp
I love coffee. I love tea. Ok, i don't love coffee, but I do love the Ink Spots. And I liked Java Jive. They are serious about Covid and take all precautions. Beyond that, good republic of tea, coffee (I'm told) and other drinks. Plenty of shopping to be done. Gifts and games and things. A large second room is where the socially distant seating is.
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
We were in desperate need of coffee on the final day of our three day road trip so I found Java Jive on Yelp. It was the pick me up we needed! The pumpkin flavoring in the cappuccino was insanely good. Everyone was practicing social distancing and wearing masks. Java Jive seems like it would be a great place to settle in for the day and get some work done. Lots of comfy seats and tables.

Yelp
Been to this place many times. Coffee is always excellent. Like the atmosphere. Will be back.

Heather A.

Yelp
Fun & Funky atmosphere. Great service. Delicious drinks. Breakfast sandwiches were great!

Laykn M.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop and cafe! The place is decorated beautifully and it is so cozy! The food is perfect for a quick bite! The lattes and drip coffees are all wonderful! Each staff member I have encountered has been so beyond sweet! The shop even has a section with little miscellaneous gifts and it is the perfect place to look for little gag gifts or just interesting finds.

Jean M.

Yelp
On a bus trip, we had a box lunch from Java Jive. It was excellent. Highly recommend Java Jive for food and drinks.

Daniel D.

Yelp
Great coffee, great snacks, great people, great atmosphere! This is a great place to grab a coffee and it's conveniently located in the middle of historic Hannibal.

Yelp
Came across this little place while traveling for work, and I will be back! The staff are so kind, and the gooey butter cake ice cream is a MUST try. The chicken salad had a bit of a sweet flavor to it, that I wasn't a huge fan of, but overall it was a great experience.

Yelp
Honestly this is one of the best places in town. Free wifi, good aura, good food, and the only place to get a decent coffee around here. Whether you want to study or go on a little date, Java Jive is perfect for anything

Avery L.

Yelp
Rather pricy. The coffee is soooo bad. One of our sandwiches was wonderful, the other 2 were pretty sad. The soup was particularly salty. The salad was delicious and fresh. This was the first time here. The staff was nice, but a little too hipster. I expected better coffee from hipsters, for sure. I don't know that we'd return. I'd just get stuff to make my own sandwich and get gas station coffee.

Danny A.

Yelp
Was fast friendly and delicious and fresh. The employees smiled and seemed to like there jobs.

Yelp
Good food, cute place in downtown Hannibal. It is a little expensive for what you get to be honest. $50 for 3 people to have 1/2 sandwhiches & 1/2 soup meals is kinda ridiculous if you ask me. Coffee was eh. It was strong but I added 3 shots of vanilla and Carmel and didn't even taste them. They have a few tables outside l. Lots of cute stuff to take home and the inside seating area is big with lots of plug ins and different seating. I will say I LoVe the wrapping paper on the bathroom walls. Very good choice!

Cynthia W.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Really good food. Even better coffee. Great place to stop for lunch.
google avatar

Justin B.

Yelp
Don't have a lot to review yet but I'll say this. The coffee is solid and will not disappoint

John D.

Yelp
Great sandwiches, salads, and scrumptious desserts! One trivial improvement they could make is to use a thicker creamier ranch dressing. Theirs was thin and watery.

Jeorg H.

Yelp
Fantastic coffee shop in downtown Hannibal with great breakfast sandwiches. The dark blend, Vulcan, is delicious. The monster breakfast sandwich is big and filling.

Steven C.

Yelp
Great spot. Excellent cappuccino and quiche. Quick service. Much better than stopping at McDonald's for breakfast.
google avatar

Julie M.

Yelp
I loved this place! They use local ingredients when possible, have a great and diverse menu, plenty of comfortable seating space--lots of couches and chairs, not just tables, and good coffee. They also have lots of little gift items you can purchase. When I arrived, the line was quite long, but they are very efficient and moved right through. Although you order in the front, the kitchen is in the back, so you are not waiting for those who need food while you order your coffee or ice cream. Service was extremely friendly. I enjoyed a coffee and the vegetarian sandwich. It was loaded and very filling! Watching everyone around me eat their meals I would say portions are hefty, so plan ahead so you can save time for the ice cream! Now if they could figure out a way for some great outside seating--a parklet maybe?
google avatar

Tahira Z.

Yelp
Such a cute place. We stopped by on our way from KC to Chicago. I had the cappuccino with salted caramel and my son had the espresso shake w/coffee ice cream. Both were good. Also had their chocolate croissant ... fresh, crispy and tasty. Very friendly. We liked it so much that we stopped there again in on our way back to KC.
google avatar

Jeremy S.

Yelp
They certainly don't sell a 'Great' cup of coffee, but it's definitely decent and does the trick for a caffeine fix. It was a neat little coffee joint, had all the charm and typical ripoff merchandise available. The price of drinks were reasonable though. This was the only coffee shop we tried in Hannibal, so nothing to compare it to. I'm from coffee snob central of the Pacific Northwest. Still trying to find great beer or coffee around Monroe City or Hannibal.
google avatar

Curt B.

Yelp
Beautiful decor with lots of seating. Seating is a mixture of couches, living room chairs with coffee tables as well as dining tables and chairs of various sizes. It appears to be a gathering spot for locals as well as a place for those visiting the area. Local art and pottery displayed and on sale. Staff was fast and friendly and the food was delicious. I had the quiche of the day (very good) and my friend had the Pancake Breakfast Sandwich that she described as "unique and delicious." Coffee was decent, We had the drip brew. They do have vegan and vegetarian options. WiFi is available with no password needed. I would definitely return.
