Google
Coffee paradise and so much more. Don't miss their hilarious sock collection plus tea towels.

Carl S.

Google
The taste of the breakfast sandwich is worth travelling for. Real egg, not frozen patty. Plenty of bacon. Outstanding.

Jane C.

Google
Great coffee, have only tried breakfast food. It is solid, but team is disorganized and waits can be long.

Tess D.

Google
Decent food for a small cafe and overall good experience and friendly service, we just can’t get over this frowny face on the tropical smoothie we got this morning? Just wondering why! 😂

John K.

Google
Nice place but waiting over 30 minutes for two simple breakfast sandwiches is ridiculous. A lot of people working but very unorganized. Be prepared to wait.

Google
Tasty, but alas they don’t care enough about the environment to offer non-disposable drinking cups and glasses.

Google
No pets allowed? In a Veteran dominated community? In a Veteran state? We'll you can keep your substandard, overpriced coffee. The employees are nice, but don't bring your support dog. This is only the second time I've been here, and it will definitely be my last. Oh, I'm also a local by the way.

Joseph P.

Google
Place was not ready for the crowd. Food took almost 45 minutes to receive. Tea sat on the counter for 15 minutes before receiving it. Wouldn't recommend if you're hungry. Received a response from the cafe on the above. While i appreciate the comment and their position, the thinly-veiled sarcasm wasn't helpful. I did ask for help while waiting, and struggled to get anyone's attention (i asked 3 different people). This happened "not behind my phone", but while i was at the counter, waiting with several others for their order. My review stands. Perhaps the cafe's owner should take comments seriously and not jump to deflect criticism over her/his inability (unwillingness?) to deliver a cup of tea and a breakfast sandwich in under 45 minutes.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop and sandwich shop. They have gluten free bread and follow great allergen protocols including using disposable barriers on their panini presses and grills. Employees were knowledgeable about the food and ingredients. Food was delicious and quick. We took our lunch to rock hall beach for a picnic!

Dan C.

Yelp
Nice portions that coincide with the price. Customer service is outstanding. Does need a little bit of focus on cleaning behind the counter where people can see

Johnathan W.

Yelp
Good coffee. Good food. Friendly service. Great small town coffee shop. They even have unique gift shop.

Yelp
Food is ok. Drinks are fine. The service though... not great. The woman working today was very rude. I walked in at 2:40pm after checking the hours on their Facebook & printed menu. I am someone that always checks the hours before going somewhere to be considerate of their time. The hours indicated they close at 4:00pm leaving me with plenty of time. While I am there, 2 people walk in after me and she is loudly complaining about how people come in right before close and that she already cleaned everything up. (she is the only one working so she is saying this to herself or to the customers) Maybe don't clean up before you close? Or maybe update the hours so this is less of an issue? Once I get my order, I ask her if the correct hours are posted anywhere because everywhere I checked says 4pm. She says, "they are on the door." I asked if they were anywhere else because I check BEFORE I go and she repeated that they are on the door. Not sure about everyone else but I am not going to walk / drive (I walked today) all the way there to figure out the hours. And no didn't think to call because their page had the hours with no indication that it would be different. Regardless of all of that, I was there 20 minutes before close and ordered one drink... it shouldn't have been a problem. I hadn't been here a while because of previous experiences and decided to give it another chance today which I regret. After reading other reviews, it seems I am not alone in experiencing bad customer service here. Big bummer for a local small business.

Yelp
I did an advanced order to be picked up at 7 am. The wraps were ready to go and the server had everything ready packed. This is one of my favorites places in Rock Hall . It's a cute small cafe with outside tables. Most of the food is prepared there and I have never been disappointed for serving size, taste and the friendliness.

Yelp
Java Rock is a gourmet coffee house that offers some light fare, snacks, wine, and even gifts. I tried their Rockalatte, a frozen latte that was made with espresso, bliss flavor, whole milk, and ice, and a Rockiato, which was a vanilla caramel latte with caramel drizzle. Unfortunately, both of these drinks were not strong; the Rockalatte seemed to have more ice rather than the espresso, so it was literally just drinking crushed ice; the Rockiato was served lukewarm, and I couldn't taste the vanilla nor the caramel. Staff weren't really welcoming and standoff-ish, so not sure if I just came in on a bad day? I wished I had the same tasty experience as others have had, but it wasn't the case. I'm glad I was able to check this place out, but wouldn't return. Plenty of street parking. +weak coffee beverages +not-so-friendly service +plenty of street parking available

Yelp
I love the Iced Mocha here. Good food options and a gift shop of unusual items. Nice sitting outside. Inside seating as well. On the slow side, so don't go in a rush, but everything I have had was worth waiting for.

Rochelle T.

Yelp
I had a chicken salad sandwich which had almost no chicken salad in it and a little wilted lettuce. The rye bread was delicious but with a tablespoon of chicken salad the sandwich was mostly bread. The sandwich and an ice tea were $18.

Yelp
Spent a few days in Rock Hall on a family getaway. Stopped here twice. Tried a number of different drinks. Regular coffee, chai and vanilla latte. Nice store. Drinks were okay but staff is not friendly. Maybe that is how they treat tourists. Usually this kind of customer service has to come from the top down. This cafe could use a course in customer service to learn how to smile and treat customers the way they should be treated.

Yelp
Adequate breakfast sandwiches and pastries, although the wait was quite long. For a coffee size of this volume, they should have more than one person working the espresso bar.

Roseann G.

Yelp
Our group of 10 surprised Java Rock a few sundays ago and pretty much usurped the "regulars". Everyone was friendly and made room and the food and service was great! We'll be back but promise not to bombard you 10 at a time

Yelp
Quirky small cafe with gift shop & wine selection. We're vegetarian so ordered The only two options available. gratitude vegetarian sandwich( artichoke, red pepper, cheese and pesto ) was yum . The veggies garden salad was basic . coffee and mango smoothie not overly sweet ( I love that) . We also ordered orange fig slice. I would've done with little more flavor. Overall great place to try . It has outdoor seating too. And gift shop is cute.

Yelp
Went there for breakfast. Ordered the "Loaded Lox Bagel" for $16.95. At that price expected a massive sandwich with all the fixings. Instead got a mediocre bagel, a couple of slices of lox, a smear of cream cheese and a scattering of the "fixings". There was nothing wrong with the flavor, but at that greater than NYC pricing would expect a lot more. On top of that, the coffee was not that good either - sort of like mud. Firmly believe in supporting small local businesses and expect slightly higher prices - but will not return.

Richard H.

Yelp
Local coffee house serving freshly brewed custom made coffee and a variety of great sandwiches Our weekend fav is a Lox bagel made to your liking. Salmon is piled high. Nice patio outside facing the center of Rock Hall to sit and enjoy your meal and drink.

Yelp
Nice corner outdoor seating and a cute little gift shop. Downsides: Two simple breakfast sandwiches took over 30 minutes. Customer service could have been improved by at least giving us a heads up on the wait. Food was fine but nothing special. Whole waiting in line, I saw a plastic hair clip That would have served well this 90* day. You know the kind - simple wide made-in-China-type plastic hair grabbing clip. $19.95

Yelp
My friend and I were staying at The Inn at Huntingfield Creek and received breakfast vouchers for Java Rock (the Innkeepers also own the coffee shop). It was a rainy morning but it was steady. There were a few tables inside, and had the weather not been inclement we would've sat on the patio. We got lattes, a breakfast sandwich, and a delicious BLT wrap. A sort of odd coleslaw accompanied mine on the side. The shop has plenty of items for sale including quirky dish towels, small children's toys, as well as a selection of wine. Would definitely go back for a coffee and a light snack next time I am in town.

Yelp
Cheery, cozy cafe with plenty of sheltered outdoor tables. A selection of wines by the bottle and cute gifts. Made-to-order sandwiches were quite good; I enjoyed the Old Bay shrimp salad, and my friend liked the New Yorker (pastrami & sauerkraut on rye). I recommend the double chocolate pound cake and the pistachio walnut cake!

William Bill H.

Yelp
Had cauliflower soup which was okay, but the quesadillas for another table looked awesome and will be my order next visit. A very nice gift shop too in an already touristy town of Rock Hall.

Ryan H.

Yelp
Customer service was horrible. Staff that served me/took my order had horrible attitudes about everything, even after messing up the order. After about 20 minutes, still didn't get a fully correct order, but I decided to live with it. Also, they said they were "busy" when there were only about 6 other people in the store, so I'm afraid to see what it's like when it's actually busy....

Yelp
We went there three days ago, en route to the Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge. It's a cute place, all three women working there were very friendly, the restroom was very clean, and they had many funny cards & cute little items for sale (it's a combination coffeehouse and gift shop). The only negative: my husband got a double espresso and he said it was quite bitter.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Large menu of options and one of the best fancy coffees my wife and I have had in awhile. Thank you!
google avatar

Joan Y.

Yelp
Local coffee shop with seating outside under the trees! Breakfast burritos and paninis were fun! And of course accompanied by great coffee. The regulars next to us said the haven't found anything they don't like here!

Yelp
Warning: location on the map is not accurate. Follow the address, not the pinpoint on the map. Cute place for coffee and a snack. There's shaded outdoor seating, A/C cooled indoor seating There's a small giftshop inside. Wifi - a bit slow and unreliable but works Had this week's special which was the Oriental Salad which was decent. Also got a black and white cookie.

Jay R.

Yelp
Best coffee in the area. Hard working staff aims to please. A must stop when in Rock Hall.

Yelp
The coffee and blueberry scone I bought were very good! Service was outstanding! I will definitely be going back often and soon

Yelp
Java Rock is a top-notch spot for coffee, tea, and a quick snack. With internet access, a book nook, and plentiful tables both in and out it provides a great location to spend the day. Along with the usual coffee shop provisions, the shop sells a small but good selection of wine, packaged treats, gifts, and dog treats. If you're staying at a friend's house, they'll have the perfect last minute hostess gift. So go, sit, chat with the people sitting on the patio or curl up with a book and enjoy your day.

Johnny B.

Yelp
Another price gouger. Stay away. Not a way to get business going during the recovery period.

Yelp
Great way to start your day in Rock Hall! My chicken sausage and egg Panini was fantastic, and the tangerine/ginger tea was the perfect complement. The place had a really cool vibe too.

Yelp
Good place. Great atmosphere. If the Walkers and Talkers are happy to call this place home... it's good enough for me! Meanwhile... they have a great wine selection and lots of fun chachkis and shitnicks for great little gifts!

Ken J.

Yelp
Great sandwiches, breakfast items, coffee drinks and smoothies. Lots of great gift items and a wine shop. We love Java Rock for breakfast and lunch when we stay in Rock Hall. We were just there and they are handling the Pandemic well. Java Rock is a gem in the small town of Rock Hall.

Jacob S.

Yelp
Worst coffee I ever had... I order a hot caramel latte with whip cream and sugar, I got a regular coffee with no sugar and cream. Not only was the coffee awful, the way you're treated here is even worse. This place needs a serious attitude change.

Jessica M.

Yelp
I've been there several times and was waited on at the counter by two different women. I was with friends each time. We each would ask politely about the goodies on display (they have wonderful muffins and cookies) . But each experience at this cute shop was ruined by the rudeness of both of the women we have encountered. Not a smile, reluctance to answer any questions, you felt they just wanted to get rid of you. Everything about the shop says, "Welcome!", except for the attitude of this staff. It wasn't just a little rude, but a lot rude. That's why I wanted to post the review. They need to know this and change it. The place was empty except for one or two people who were already seated and having their coffee. So it wasn't that they were too busy. The rudeness is not something only we encountered, but it's become a well known feature of the shop. I am a local and I know others who've received the same treatment. It's such a shame because Rock Hall is reaching out to visitors to come and enjoy the town.

Yelp
Sad, but true, the only cafe left in town. I really like JR because it has free internet and a nice atmosphere. Rock Hall is a town fill of artists and other lovely folk and, well, is suffering just like all small towns from current economic downturns. Only the most robust survive, and JR looks pretty solid. Thumbs up: cafe style food, selection of coffee drinks, atmosphere, friendly barristas, free blazingly fast wifi (BYOC), open on Sunday, additional outdoor seating. Nice selection of gifts. And nobody will steal your computer. Thumbs down: uncomfortable chairs, though there are sofas and a couple overstuffed chairs. While you are there, check out Oyster Court, another RH must-see. And please visit the galleries.

Mellie Z.

Yelp
in town for an event, and I loved this place! Awesome gifts for sale, really good coffee, good sandwiches, and both clerks were really friendly.

Ronald S.

Yelp
Great coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Dog friendly patio a great way to start your day in Rock Hall.

Yelp
Nice shop, light food for breakfast or lunch. Wine selection, gifts and place to site and read local points of intesrest

Lauren H.

Yelp
Great little place to grasp a quick bite to eat. We had the paninis which were really good. The staff is so friendly. They actually have quite a nice selection of wines, and a great little selection of gifts. Worth stopping by while in Rock Hall.

Kam M.

Yelp
Nice place - rude employee... Friendliest city in America? I guess that doesn't apply to this shop.

Anne B.

Yelp
I would never go here again. Two reasons: 1) My drink was so hot that it burned my entire mouth. I've never had that happen like that before and it took so long for it to cool to a drinkable temperature. 2) the mixture of gifts makes it a place I wouldn't feel comfortable taking my kids in to. There's a rack of cards right as you walk in that are basically cartoon naked old people. I watched as two eight year old boys couldn't tear themselves away from them... Pass on this one and head to Sam's Deli in Chestertown instead. Cheaper and a better atmosphere!

Betsy H.

Yelp
Terrific stop for food, coffee and gifts. The day's special - braised short ribs, carmelized onion, provolone cheese panini - was delish! The coffee was excellent. And we found ourselves buying some very nicely priced wine and some cute clothes.

Yelp
Java Rock has delicious coffee, strangely that its gimme coffee from Ithaca, NY, but what the hey. This place has everything you need; soup in a box, bag or at the counter, (they should think about making their own soups), clothing, sunglasses, cigars, wine, cups and tea pots and everything coffee. paintings, candies, baked goods, sandwiches and the list goes on. It reminds me of the daily grind in Albany, but not as brightly lit. My only issue is the afmosphere of the place. Plenty of seating and internet access. I had a delicious lunch, hot veggie sandwich with chips and homemade butter pickles on the side, perfect amount of food. I was there last in May of 2008 unfortunately only had the espresso, which I thought to be on the harsh side because the person who made it put about two times her weight of pressure on the tamp and that is what makes the difference between a good espresso and a bad one. Definitely a place to go while in Rock Hall, MD, because unfortunately, there isn't much else around, since most of main st, is out of business.

Anita H.

Yelp
Good strong coffee. ..the way I like em'! Lay back with outdoor seating on a beautiful Sunday morning., what more do you want with their yummy breakfast. Cute shopping unexpectedly as well....
