The Dominican Republic's Samaná Peninsula Offers a Quieter Alternative to Punta Cana

"I learned about the new Seven Hidden Beaches trail in Las Galeras, a community-led ecotourism route that winds past sea caves along a less-developed stretch of coastline and showcases the area’s natural wealth beyond its former party-bar scene." - Lebawit Lily Girma Lebawit Lily Girma Lebawit Lily Girma is an award-winning Ethiopian-American travel journalist and the editor-at-large at Skift. Extremely beautiful turquoise water and fine, powdery sand but only on about 300 meters which obviously, was taken by the hotel. Everywhere else it's packed with seaweed and there is grass in the water so impossible to swim!

Very nice and quiet beach. A couple of restaurants right on the beach. Also, there is a beach bar if you want to sip on a piña colada while enjoying the view. Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a place to relax.

Beautiful, relaxed beach with good parking and services if you want them. We tried snorkeling but didn't see a lot. Still a great view and a great place to swim.

One of the most beautiful beach in Las Galeras. Lots of people, somehow crowded, but It did not compromise. With restaurant, tents with massage, beach chairs to rent. Lots of amenities to enjoy. The food at Isabel Restaurant was amazing. Fresh fish with lots of side dishes. Ask the locals to indicate the place.

I had a great time at Javo Beach La Playita, the locals called it La Playita. There is a nice restaurant with food and drinks. There is another area where they sell local food or comida criolla and drinks as well. The food in both areas tastes good. They both have outdoor seating on the beach and under the shades of trees so you can enjoy your food and drinks in a beautiful, clean, relaxing environment overlooking the crystal clear ocean water among many other people. This is a place to be enjoyed by everyone, individuals, and families including children. You won't want to leave this place.

This beach is about a mile away from town, so it's nice and quiet. It has beautiful clear water with an epic view of the mountains!! I loved it here. The sunset was also very beautiful! The water seemed just a little bit cooler than it was on the opposite side of the Samana peninsula, but for those who don't like the very warm Caribbean water in the summer time, you'll probably like this!

We visited this beautiful tranquil beach on a Tuesday. There were not many people around except a few visitors, restaurant workers, and fishermen. There were a few officials from Santo Domingo examining the red mangroves. It wasn't quite clear if the redish pink color was natural or from a dye added to the water. It was the first time seeing red mangroves. It was a beautiful sight, including seeing turtles swimming. You can see across to Playa Rincon and the rest of the beautiful bay and beaches.
