I went to John Phillips Hair Salon in Dallas because I was looking for professional care and wanted to protect my hair. Unfortunately, my experience resulted in severe chemical damage. I initially had a Brazilian blowout that did not smooth or straighten my hair. When I called to ask about next steps, I was advised to do a stronger treatment (referred to as K10). I clearly expressed my concern about damaging my hair, especially since the Brazilian had just been done the week before. I was repeatedly reassured that it would not ruin my hair. After the treatment, my scalp felt irritated, and within days my hair became extremely dry, brittle, and began breaking everywhere. The texture changed completely — it now feels fried and straw-like. I returned to the salon because my hair was in such bad condition and asked for help. I was given a haircut, but the damage was not addressed, and I was discouraged from cutting it shorter despite the obvious breakage. At this point, my hair is visibly damaged and continuing to break. Going from healthy curly hair with some frizz to severely fried, breaking hair has been shocking and upsetting. I trusted professional advice and was reassured multiple times that this would be safe. I expected a higher standard of care from a salon at this price point. Unfortunately, I left feeling that my concerns were dismissed and that the long-term health of my hair was not prioritized. I hope this feedback helps other clients ask more questions before agreeing to back-to-back chemical treatments.

I wish I could give 100 starts (it still wouldn't be enough)!! Perle is an extension QUEEN. She loves what she does and it truly shows with her clients. I had a traumatic haircut at another salon, lets just say it looked like my toddler took scissors to my hair in my sleep, and Perle fit me in NEXT DAY once she saw the photos and truly worked magic on my hair. She is so knowledgeable about different extension types and will help you find the best extension type to keep your hair healthy. Front desk staff is also so sweet and helpful. I can not recommend this salon enough!!

I went to Jean Philippe on a recommendation from a friend. I just moved to Dallas from Prosper and wanted a salon closer to home. Carley did a wonderful job cutting my hair. I love the way it looks and it lays perfectly when I dry it which can be a challenge with all the humidity lately since my hair is quite wavy. Not only is Carley a talented stylist but she is super cute and friendly. We had a great time chatting and getting to know each other. I will be going back for a follow up cut in August and highlights with Margo and am looking forward to another great experience.

I have been with the Jean Philippe salon for 15 years and always have a beautiful experience when I'm there. The training is clearly exceptional and I always look forward to my visits because I know my hair will look beautiful and smooth for many days. Christi Farris has done my hair 14 of those 15 years and I'm so grateful for her loyalty and dedication to her clients. She is truly the best. I've had other stylists help me when schedules didn't align (Natalie is also amazing) and I've always been pleased with the results. Consistency, keen attention to detail and the highest of quality work are what I can count on each time I'm there. I have very difficult hair - it's very thick and very curly. Most people have done a half a$$ job in the past and blamed it on my hair. Christi takes the time for me and every time I leave I have sleek, smooth, beautiful hair and I feel so pretty. Grab your coffee, hot chocolate or soda upfront and settle in. Call in advance as they tend to fill up- especially around the holidays. Note, there's a no-show /cancellation fee when cancellation is made closer to your appointment date. Host will guide you to their recommended stylist. This is located in the plaza on the same side as 'To Be Continued' and eatzis. Based on your needs, they've can recommend a curated treatment. Modern art, mirrors and plants adorn the interior. My colorist came with a great referral and has been my go-to for base and gloss for a minute. Elle and local magazine fan fare await in the lobby alongside their store displaying elevated brands such as davines, Milbon, Nutrafol, oribe and wella. My one thing would be is to let the associate know the pressure for rinses. If you want them to go lighter/ be firm, say so. Color tends to leave a mark. Advocate if you see a bit of color left where not need be! Stylists are continually elevating their craft via beauty brand conferences. So, you're getting the best in the game. Products have never been pushed on me of which I value. Also, I'm currently growing out the tresses and they haven't forced me to get a trim. That is appreciated. Happy beauty adventures!

I had made certain requests such as specifics in length, styling requirements the stylist proceeded to do the exact opposite of my requests. If you have a new customer who is bringing up certain topics such as length you are cutting why wouldn't you be conservative in your cut? Maybe build your trust with that client? Well I got what I feel is a hack job. I was told I wasn't going to have any "style" with longer hair. My hair feels so thinned out now. And I'm back to square one trying to find someone here who actually listens to what I'm saying. The stylist didn't even try to be even somewhat personable. I paid $100+tip and got no offer for a beverage. No water no coffee nothing. And I think there's a cleanliness issue here.

I had the most horrible, traumatizing haircut experience with Jean Philippe last week. Jean barely glanced at the example pictures I showed him and proceeded to botch my hair so badly that I genuinely felt afraid to leave my house. When I came back to have him fix my hair, I showed him a picture of an old haircut I'd had and asked him to cut my hair similarly. He was visibly annoyed, pulling my hair so roughly it hurt and letting his hands smack my face. When I asked him to please not make the top layer any shorter, he retorted, "I heard you the first time. You don't have to repeat yourself." When he finished, he told me he would not cut my hair again because we had "no connection." After questioning him further, he replied, "if you like the haircut the other lady gave you so much, maybe you should go back to her" and scurried off to the back room so he wouldn't have to defend himself against a 21-year-old girl any longer. Not only did he give me the worst haircut of my life, but he also upcharged me $30 with no explanation, making the haircut $200. The front desk refunded me the $30 but said Jean was very upset about the refund, so that's why he threw a tantrum. I'm embarrassed for him and hope that he will seek therapy soon to evaluate why he has such a fragile ego.

Chi is awesome!! She is the first person I've found in Dallas that I've actually wanted to go to again for a haircut. She is easy to talk to and does a great job with styling. She listens to what I want and without me even saying about my hair having weight or being a lot she goes do you want me to take some weigh out and texturize it? and I was like yes!!! I always forget to ask but you knew it. Very happy client :)

Absolutely & beyond very disappointed in the customer service by management. I had been a client for almost 5 years. My colorist was excellent! However, I had lost my earrings there the day of my appointment. I called & they were found & even provided photos to me that they were found & were going to hold them for me. My work schedule made me unavailable to pick them & I thought they would be ok to pick at my next appointment since I was a regular client. Well, to my disappointment I was told they could not be found & put the blame on me. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! As a recurring client, you would think they would not allow that & place them away & not put guilt or blame on me. Will not be returning or refer ever again!

Got to write this since I'm early for my haircut with Veronica!!! I've been looking forward to my appointment since my last cut. Veronica is clean, cool, and very technically skilled. I have coarse, ethnic hair beset with several cowlicks - in other words, difficult to cut. It grew out beautifully and naturally fell into place. Post-haircut: We went much shorter since TX summers are hot. Veronica politely vetoed my bad ideas and gave me a pretty cut much better suited to my lifestyle. I love my new 'do!

Happy with the color and the hair cut. However a bit shocked when it came to bill. I was quoted 75 + 30 for top color and was charged 65 for the treatment vs 30. Website says 60+ for woman's cut and I was charged 130. When I asked afterwards I was told 100 minimum and up depending on hair dresser. Still find it a bit stip yet you get really professionally trained people and you won't be disappointed.

I went to a more expensive salon on Lovers thinking I would get someone who knew what they were doing. Instead I got Scottie. My hair was a dark blonde with an inch of gray roots and I wanted to go to platinum. He made me sign a contract that I would accept a lightening of 2 shades because more than that would damage my hair. My hair is thick but short. It took him 2.5 hrs to get color in and then another 27 minutes after that. My hair was yellow!! Not blonde or platinum - YELLOW! He was surprised by how much of my color was gone! Then he asked someone else to blow dry me and that was another $70. I asked her if it was yellow and she ducked the question! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SALON TO ANYONE! Not only did the colorist no know what he was doing, the girl covered for him instead of being honest with me. Try the top ten on Yelp but not this place!!

Jean Philippe is an artist when it comes to hair. My friend has been seeing him for years and I always admired her hair. She highly recommended I go and I am so glad I did. Jean Philippe not only do an amazing job with my hair but also taught me how to do it myself which is critical because I live far away. Seriously considering flying to Dallas again in a few months to have him do my hair. Also everyone at the salon was so nice and helpful. Thank you so much! Highly Recommend.

I recently moved to Dallas from San Francisco, where I had an amazing French hairstylist and was quite nervous about my hair done by someone else. My first experience here was at an Uptown salon, where I was satisfied with color, but had a disappointing haircut. After extensive research, I decided to see Maggie for color and Nathalie for the haircut at Jean Phillippe. While color is not exactly what I was envisioning, the haircut turned out to be one of the best I have ever had and I was fortunate to have my hair cut by many talented European hairstylists over the past 25 years. Nathalie is a true master of her craft: she has attention to detail plus a great cutting technique. After washing my hair falls into place without too much styling effort, is full of volume and looks healthy. I consider myself very lucky to have found a great hairstylist in my new city so quickly.

I have been coming to this salon for years I have to the best salons from Miami to nyc to California. My grandson Thrown a temper tantrum he is 3 an does not like to get his hair cut A large lady named pearl came over with a Scissors in her hand saying stop I am going to cut someone my daughter was so upset she could not even drive extremely scary a large lady threatening to cut someone.

Jean Philippe is the best hairstylist in Dallas, if not one of the best in the country. A cut from him ran $140 the last time I was in there, but everyone is his salon is talented. A basic cut starts at $50, depending on the stylist. The salon has a great ambiance - not pretentious like one might expect - and the staff will undoubtedly give you the best haircut of your life.

I visited Jean Phillipe Salon a few weekends ago for a cut and color. I went in as a brunette and wanted to get back to my blonde roots. I had a consultation and everything seemed to be on track until I was taken in the area where they color your hair. There were at least 7 or 8 other women back there getting their hair colored by two stylists (one being mine). I sat there for about 2 hours with the stylist coming and going every 30 minutes to highlight a few more strands here and there. Given it was a Saturday morning but still - if you're paying that much money, you want to have a pleasant experience too! About halfway through, a girl came in and sitting across from me -- bauling crying. She had been in the day before and gotten her hair done by the same guy doing mine and said that night it turned maroon and was (clearly) not what she wanted. He started doing her hair, which in turn elongated my time there by another 30 minutes. The girl who cut my hair was awesome and I love the finished product there, but as soon as she dried my hair I was appalled by the color. It was basically the same exact thing I went in with but with a few blonde streaks. I left and immediately called another salon and got an appointment the next day. The girl at the new salon said it was the worst highlight she had ever seen in her 10+ years of doing hair. So much so that she called a couple of other stylists over to take a look at it - word for word, "what the f*ck did they do to your hair?" I promptly called Jean Philippe Salon and requested my money back. It took 2 weeks for them to do so, but I finally got refunded this morning. I am so disappointed in this salon. Not only did they cost me WAYYYY more than I intended on spending, but their customer service was not up to par either. I had higher hopes for this place.

Amazing service! I got a Keratin straightening treatment from here and the results were amazing. Pearl listened to what my concerns with my hair were and helped me decide on doing this treatment. I had super dry and frizzy hair before and after my hair was so soft and healthy. The ambience is great, service is so friendly, definitely recommend coming here for a keratin treatment and even hair cuts!

I was introduced to Veronica by a friend of mine after a botched hair cut .. she is amazing ! When I went in I was so upset, i had tried a new stylist at a different salon and she completely messed up my hair . I had a shoulder length lob hair cut that she chopped up like Edward Scissor hands ! The worst part was my engagement photos like 4 days away .. so fast forward two days I went to see Veronica and showed her my mangled hair .. we talked about some different options she could do to fix it. Not only did she fix my hair she gave me a wonderful cut . I've been going to her ever since . She is very talented at what she does . I can't say enough great things about her . She definitely was a life saver!

Pearl dyed and waxed my eyebrows and did an amazing job. She is super friendly and professional and my brows look awesome. Not to mention they carry Davines products which are pricey but amazing.

I see Chad for my color and Sarah for my cut. Despite being in a very nice part of town the salon makes me feel right at home and is not stuck up at all. The prices are also very reasonable. The stylists are so great. I just tell them both to make me look great and they deliver. I will tell you that my review comes after about 2 years of having services done here and I am still happy. I am just now writing this review because I recently (albeit unsuccessfully) tried to find a place closer to my house and during that process I realized how great my current salon is.

This salon was recommended to me when I was in a bind to get an appointment quickly! Ian was incredible and was able to fit me in for a cut and color that day! I'm back today for my second appointment - clearly I was pleased. And Maggie is fantastic! She is a creative colorist with an eye for how color can add depth and texture to hair.

I was a client there once a month for about 7-8 months about a year ago. I went to a colorist and one of the young stylists (her chair was right next to Jean Philippe - Natalie? I believe? ). My colorist was awesome. She was consistent. The color was excellent. The product was top notch. My cuts? Not so much. The first one was excellent and the last one was horrible. The last cut: The layers were uneven by a full 1.5 inches on the right back and left back of my head. I have short hair. I had to go to another salon to get it fixed and I have never been back. It was so disappointing because I loved my colorist and good ones are hard to find. When I called to tell them about it, I was put on hold then disconnected so I just blew the whole place off.

I have been getting my hair cut and styled by Mai here for the past 6 years. I always leave happy after she is done with my hair...it's hard to find people like this! I have had so many bad experiences with other stylists, especially when I ask them for a trim and I get 2-3 inches cut off! She does exactly what I tell her to do, but is also able to give me great input when I am not sure what I want done...and she always makes my hair look amazing. Mai is also an awesome stylist and she has styled me for many important occasions and I always love what she does. I highly recommend her to anyone!

Just so you know, the prices here are SO expensive. You're gonna have to shell out a good $250 plus for color. Also, people there while aren't really rude, aren't really personable either. It's just one of those salons where you can tell the staff there have attitudes. I've gotten pretty good color here but it's not worth coming back to. I don't ever really feel welcomed here so I thought it wasn't a good fit for me. Also, my sister came to get an ombre here and they completely messed up her hair. She had to get it corrected a few hundred dollars later.

I recently had the best haircut I've ever had from Jean Philippe! He has definitely earned his reputation for being the best in town. Even when I don't take the time to "style" my hair after a wash, it still looks good. The colorists are fantastic too, and the staff is very helpful and accommodating. As a bonus, the salon has the feel of a five star spa! AWESOMENESS!

Lupe did my hair! I have natural curly hair and he straightened it out to shinny profection. first of all the wash and head massage was awesome. This man was so knowledgeable about hair and what product I needed on my hair and he was so kind to me, I just cant wait until my next visit. And no, I didn't have to break the bank. I have gone to others who charged me up to a hundred or more dollars and the "do" only lasted until I exited the shop. I am grateful for Lupe and hope to see him every week. I don't think I have ever had my hair done so well. I am completely pleased with his talent and expertise. I feel like my best friend did my hair. Thanks again Lupe!!!

The staff was very friendly and I didn't have to wait very long for a stylist. I got a blowout and it turned out fabulous. I was hoping she would have spent a little more time on my shampoo and washed it twice along with a scalp massage... But I told her I liked big Texas hair and she did what she could to oblige my request. :) I will be returning for a haircut for sure. Also, the price of $35 was very good for an upscale salon.

I love this salon. I have toyed with other salons in Dallas (I liked Lure in West Village), but I'm committed to Jean Philippe now. I am a lazy hair care person, I basically brush it and let it do it's own thing, so I don't get it cut that often. I almost NEVER like my haircuts, but I've been very pleased with the two cuts I've had from Jean Philippe. They don't require 2 weeks of living with it to be able to like it. They gave me a great cut with low maintenance hair styling (no serum, moose, etc.). I also have been getting my hair colored every once in a while here. I LOVED my results. First I did a strawberry blonde (I'm a natural honey blonde) which came out fantastic. Next I lightened my honey blonde up to a golden blonde and it looked so natural. I'm going back in this week to go back to strawberry blonde/red. They take their time, don't rush your appointment, and I will keep coming here as long as they're open! Parking is never a problem at this location, and though I've been the last appointment of the day most of the time (after I get off work), I never feel like they think I'm a pain in the ass! (if I am, they hide it well, so thanks guys!).

Margot is a color genius. Like seriously. From the first time I went over a year ago, she and Heber (awesome cut/stylist!) have listened, worked together, and taken time to make sure the end result on my hair is what I wanted. Margot never rushes; she walks me through different options to achieve what I'm going for, and she'll include a realistic timeline to get there, makes sure I really understand what I'm getting. If I show her a picture of what I want for color, she actually looks at it, talks to me, she doesn't just hurry to say "I can do that" or "that won't work"....She'll make it happen, too. She makes me comfortable and she's got a great sense of humor. The salon is always timely, easy scheduling, doesn't push products on me but educates and helps if I ask....Great place!

My experience at Jean Philippe was very pleasant. The receptionist greeted me at the door, checked me in, and I waited about 3 minutes for my colorist Stephanie to approach me and walk me to a station. She was very professional and was very charismatic in her conversation with me. Super friendly. My hairstylist was Veronica today and she gave me the exact cut I was looking for as well as being professional and friendly throughout the entire service. I will be coming back! :)

I had a friend surprise me with a cut from Jean Philippe. I was nervous given I have had very long hair for a very long time and that I hadn't had anyone other than my hairdresser touch my hair in over a decade; it is now just below my shoulders and I absolutely love it! The way he cuts is so unique to the individual; taking his time to both cut style then cut more to make sure it flows just the way it should. I would highly recommend Jean Philippe!! You will be lucky to have him!

Jean Philippe did such an AMAZING job on my hair! He understood what I wanted and is knowledgable enough to know what cut and style looks best with my face shape and personality. His assistant was also amazing and they provided the best salon experience I've EVER had!

DO NOT GO HERE FOR A BLOW OUT!!!! My normal salon was completely booked - so seeing as this place was written up by D Magazine, I thought I'd give it a try. Big mistake. Huge. After waiting for 30 minutes after my appointed time, I then was showed to my sink where my head was tossed around like salad and I felt like I was at the dentist being punished for not having my annual cleaning. Like your gums are bleeding from everywhere but you can't see it? You know what I mean. I thought - well.... maybe this is just their style - so I was optimistic when I got to the chair. Nope. 10 minutes in, her next client showed up (as she would, given that my girl started 30 minutes late) - and she continued to toss my head around in a very aggressive way (maybe it dries faster that way?) - and dry it as quickly as she could. She asked her colleague to "check her book" to see who was next. Her next client was clearly the wife of someone "important" - there was talk about this night being "their first game"... same night as a Cowboy game? Anyway, I was quickly thrown out like a piece of bad fish so that the regular could have her place. But I don't blame the regular at all... It was a disaster. From beginning to end. For me, blow outs are a luxury - so leaving there knowing that I could have done better was disappointing to say the least. This was punctuated by what my husband said when I walked in the door - "you were gone for 2 hours FOR THAT? You could have done better yourself." It wasn't even about the money. It wasn't that much. It was a complete waste of my time. I had to completely re-do my hair for my event that evening. And it looked way better than it did when I left the salon. By the way, this is the first time ever I have posted a review on yelp. That's how bad it was.
