My stay at Jeevan Beach Resort in Kovalam was, unfortunately, quite disappointing. Despite its rating, the resort’s service and amenities were well below par, making it the least satisfactory hotel I stayed at during my Kerala trip.
Room Service and Amenities
Extra Cot and Pillow Issue: I had booked a room for three people, including an extra cot, for which I paid an additional charge. However, upon arrival, the extra cot was not prepared in the room. I had to personally go down and request it, which should not have been necessary given that it was already booked and paid for. The staff then checked my booking details to confirm whether I had actually paid for the cot, delaying the process further.
Once the cot was finally set up, I requested extra pillows to accommodate the third guest. Despite this being a triple-occupancy booking, the staff initially refused to provide additional pillows, stating they didn’t have any. After multiple requests, they grudgingly provided just one extra pillow, which was entirely inadequate for our needs.
Dirty Bedsheet: The cot they provided had a dirty bedsheet, which was highly unhygienic. When I pointed this out, the staff seemed dismissive and confused. After I showed them the issue, they casually laughed about it, which was incredibly unprofessional. They eventually replaced the sheet, but this interaction left a very negative impression. Guests should not have to argue or feel ridiculed to receive clean bedding.
Water Bottle Policy: The resort provides only one water bottle per room, regardless of the number of guests. For a room booked for three people, this policy was completely inadequate. Any additional water required had to be purchased or specially requested, unlike other hotels during my trip where water bottles were provided generously and refilled as needed.
Cleanliness and Bathroom Condition
The bathrooms were poorly maintained, with visible rust and an overall sense of neglect.
Basic amenities were lacking. The toiletries provided were minimal—a bar of soap, shampoo, and conditioner. No dental kit, shower cap, or other standard items were available, which is unacceptable for a hotel of this rating and price range.
Restaurant and Food Experience
Complimentary Breakfast: The breakfast buffet was disappointing, with limited variety and below-average food quality.
Tea-Time Service: The complimentary tea-time service was poorly organized. Guests were not asked for preferences, and tea was served in a communal can, which we had to collect ourselves. For dietary reasons, I requested sugarless tea, but the staff initially dismissed my concern, stating the tea had “less sugar.” It was only after insisting that they reluctantly prepared sugarless tea. This lack of attention to guests’ needs was frustrating and unprofessional.
General Service
The staff’s attitude throughout my stay lacked professionalism. Simple requests such as preparing the extra cot, providing clean sheets, or additional pillows were met with delays, confusion, or dismissiveness. There was no proactive effort to ensure guest comfort, and their casual approach to complaints was disappointing.
Comparison with Other Hotels
During my Kerala trip, I stayed in five different hotels, all of which offered better service, amenities, and professionalism than Jeevan Beach Resort. The stark difference in quality made my experience at this resort particularly frustrating.
Recommendation
I cannot recommend Jeevan Beach Resort to anyone seeking a comfortable and stress-free stay in Kovalam. The issues with unprepared rooms, dirty and wet bedsheets, inadequate water bottle policies, and indifferent service make it difficult to justify the resort’s rating or price.
For a more pleasant and hassle-free experience, I suggest exploring other options in Kovalam that prioritize guest comfort and deliver better value for money.
