This Art Gallery is established in the year 1952 by Sir Cowasji Jehangir, 2nd Baronet,an industrialist and banker who was a great patron of Art. The gallery is located on Mahatma Gandhi Road at Kala Ghoda, Fort near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum. This gallery is famous for hosting exhibitions of painters, photographers, ceramicists, craftsmen, sculptors, weavers, etc. Great Artists have exhibited their arts in this gallery like M.F.Hussein, Akbar Padamsee, Baburao Sadwelkar, Tyeb Mehta, Madhav Satwalekar, Jagdish Mali, Gautam Rajadhyaksha, Atul Kasbekar, Sooni Taraporevala, etc. The exhibitions in the gallery are free for viewers to see which enables even common people visiting the City Mumbai to see and appreciate the art displayed by the artists. People from all over the World who visit the City Mumbai do visit the Art Gallery. Thousands of people visit this gallery every day and enjoy the Art. There was a small restaurant named Samovar which is closed now where Artists used to sit and sip tea, coffee and discuss the art. I had a privilege to visit this gallery 4-5 days a week and see exhibitions of great artists like M.F.Hussein,Bittu Sahgal, Gautam Rajadhyaksha, Naresh Bedi, etc during the years 1977 to 1983. I love to visit this place and experience the peace and calmness through the art exhibits displayed in the Gallery.
