Jeju Haenyeo Museum

A very well significant Jeju museum dedicated to the Haenyeo community, the female sea divers. If you have watched the K drams like ‘When life gives you Tangerines 🍊’ and ‘Welcome to Samdal-ri’ you can absolutely 💯 understand the great great history of these people 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Informative museum about haenyeos. All of them are admirable for the work they did and still do. Museum showcased their lives and how each one became haenyeos.

People visit this place must be due to K-drama, but once you are there, you learn so much what this town and people went thru to survived and preserved their culture. Great place to visit.

I was so lucky to visit museum right when a warm show about women free diver occurred.

A very well organised museum exhibits the history of Jeju Haenyeo (women female divers) from ancient times and the exhibits are donated by the Haenyeo themselves. Haenyeo who are traditional female free divers from Jeju island. Some of the women continue to divers into their 80s.

A great knowledge can learn about their livings. It's not easy to dive under water without the equipment. Through the stories inside, I can see how hard their life before, but their able to fight for women's right. When we went to the 3rd floor, we can enjoy the skies and seas views 💙 It was sooo calming 💙

If you unfortunately didn't get the chance to see the Women's Diver show because of the strong current, an alternative is to check out the Haenyeo Museum. Although it's not the same but you get the idea of how hard and difficult these women diver's job is. Advanced women can dive down up to ten metres deep and hold their breath for five minutes. Oldest women to dive is 92 years old! And the average women that dives is between 70-80 years of age. It's totally crazy and I respect them.

Learning about the Haenyeo was so interesting. Great respect for them and their part in Korean history. Also enjoyed watching their live demonstration. Amazing women.
