While the number of jellyfish isn't as high as it may have been in the past, I still encountered one every 10–20 seconds while swimming. This place is a rare natural wonder, and we all share the responsibility of keeping it alive and thriving. Please wash off your sunscreen properly before entering the lake. Let’s all do our part so future generations can enjoy this unique connection with nature.

I only saw 5 golden jellyfish in a lake that used to host millions. As of April 2025, Jellyfish Lake (Ongeim L’Tketau) sadly has still not recovered from the 2020-2023 triple La Niña event. Continued warmer temperatures in the lake mean the golden jellyfish are struggling to recover and reproduce. Intriguingly, tour operators still run tours and the state government still charges USD 100 for the entry permit.

When I came here is 2008 there were millions of jellyfish. Most have died off due to the cyclical nature of nature. But they are coming back. We saw between 2 and 3 dozen of the small jellies. Plus a whole bunch of the larger ones. Even though it costs a bunch to get to the lake I can say it's worth it. Just manage your expectations if you have been here before.

Mesmerizing. Floating amongst the 1000s of jellyfish was a moment that will forever live in my memory.

This place is Awesome! Definitely a very unique experience. Jellyfish were everywhere throughout the lake. Had a great time swimming with them.

We’ve been there on 2021 Aug, luckily it was open and could see many jellyfishes. There are two types of jellyfish living in the lake, they are nonpoisonous, you can even touch them gently! Super cute! The guard at the entry would check if you wear heavy sunscreen, if yes you will need to wash off.

7 stars if I could. I’m here twice. First time is 2011 May, the amount of the jelly fish is so large, it’s hard not to bump into as you snorkel around. 2021 November, it feels like there are a lot less. However the water is so clear that I can really experience the moment of jelly fish. This is the only place in the world that you can swim with jelly fish because they evolve to be harmless. There are about 20 of such lakes, but all others are under protection. This is only one open to public. Even so, the past 10 years, it has been closed twice due to extreme weather condition. Jelly fish is very sensitive, they need sunlight for photosynthesis, but too warm of the weather, they could die. So coming here on the raining days is actually the best, they came up to the top. Swimming with millions of jelly fish is one of the kind experience. A magic moment.
