Piano bar? Disney? Boardwalk? All three of these things, taken individually, are high on the scale, but when combined it's just not there for me at Jellyrolls.
Jellyrolls sits on the end of Boardwalk, near the Swan and Dolphin hotels. I was surprised when our group came in and met the $15 cover charge, but again...piano bar, Disney, blah, blah. After a couple of days of using a magic band for everything, some of that surprise might have come from having to dig for cash or a card. Still, it seemed odd to pay to get into a bar on Disney property.
First, the good. The first set of singers/players were good. Their catalog of songs was broad AND deep. The crowd loved them and their interaction with the crowd was 10/10.
Now, the reason for 2 stars. When told about a piano bar, I imagined a cushy seat, some pianos playing wonderful music. A drink in hand. Some conversation. Requests for songs being met. This...this was not that piano bar.
Jellyrolls was loud. LOUD, I say. The first set of players/singers were audible, but there were times i had no idea what the words to the lyrics were since my ears were ringing. The second set of singers/players were nearly inaudible at all times. The sound (vocals and piano at that level might not be music) was so loud it was more like Charlie Brown's teacher yelling at the class with a piano accompaniment...or dueling piano accompaniments.
How was the draft beer selection, you ask? Not good, I say. How was the service? Well, the server came promptly, explained the process for song requests, and then gave an inordinately amount of time to make a decision. So much so that a trip to the bar was easier.
After about 10-15 minutes into the 2nd set of performers it was time to tap out.
If you want relaxing music, this is not your place. If you feel like a $15 cover is crazy at DW, this is not your place (in fairness, that's the price of a hotdog in a park, so...). If you want a nice selection of brew - nope. If you want to hear the song lyrics, nah.
