On the Grid : Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

"Jeni’s is a wonderful addition to the Decatur square. The food and drink offerings in the area are exceptional so an ice cream parlor completes the neighborhood dining experience. The space is bright and clean, and the flavors are delicious. On the giant chalkboard menu, you’ll find classic flavors and rotating seasonal options so there is something to satisfy every palate. They also get an A+ for their transparent company culture. Jeni’s uses Direct Trade and Fair Trade ingredients and they pride themselves on employing and working with women and minority-owned businesses. Samples are free, so don’t hesitate to try before you buy!" - Staci Janik

I just can’t count how many times we’ve gone by now. We always get the two vegan flavors available at this location - the Lemon Bar and the Texas Sheet Cake, both of which we love. Plus, the service has always been wonderful here. They once even gave us two servings-in-one for no reason! Would recommend visiting Jeni’s at least once - you’ll want to return for sure!

Google
Delicious ice cream! Tables & chairs were sticky, did not see anyone go around cleaning while we enjoyed our ice cream.

Google
Very good ice cream, the best I’ve had during my US visit. Unfortunately the staff is not very friendly and seems to not be interested in trying to be at least a bit nice. The weird thing was, when they said goodbye to one of the security guards who was done with their shift, they suddenly smiled and laughed and were all super friendly to them. I know, working in an ice cream shop in summer can be tiring and stressful and some customers may be rude but the behavior left a bitter taste in my mouth. No pun intended.

I love Jeni's. Since I'm dairy-free, I always treat myself to the dairy-free flavors, Texas Sheet Cake and Lemon Bar. Yummy!!

Google
Jeni's on Decatur Square was the perfect treat for today's 95-degree weather! Although it wasn't my first time at this location, it was my first time trying the snow cone sorbet. The flavors—watermelon, blue bramberry, and pink lemonade sorbet—were fantastic. I enjoyed each bite more than the last! Definitely a summer favorite! The staff were really friendly, and the space was clean and vibrant!Additionally, there are options to purchase pint-sized ice cream in various flavors, refreshments, and branded merchandise such as coolers and lunch boxes. Overall, a great experience! Jeni's is easily one of my favorite ice cream places in Atlanta, and I'm happy I was able to try a different flavor than my usual.

Google
First time having coffee flavored ice cream and I was very satisfied with trying it here. My party and I enjoyed the heck out of the flavors here!

Google
Very flavorful ice cream. Really amazing and fast staff. They were really crowded when I came after 9 p.m. on a Thursday. They actually had to tell the line to go back outside the door. The place was clean and nicely decorated. I’d like to see what it’s like when it’s less crowded. The area is easy to access and I parked for free due to the time of day. If I were to come back I’d definitely come when I know parking is free. I really don’t like paying to park then also having to pay for food. It’s located right off Decatur square so a great place to sit and people watch and lots of restaurants, stores, and activities in the area too.

Google
Many fun & unique ice cream flavors to choose from. Most staff is very friendly & they are open until midnight on weekdays. We wandered in around 10pm and there was a short line that we got through quickly. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in Decatur.

Yelp
Such a cute ice cream place that's open late for late night dessert runs! I got the dairy free lemon bar and it was delicious. So creamy despite not being made with any real milk. Heads up, there's almost always a line here, it's just that popular.

Yelp
Jeni's Ice Cream is a staple of Decatur. As soon as you step into the shop, an immediate smell of maple syrup of freshly made waffle cones hits you right in the face. It smells delicious. Their ice cream selection changes regularly, so make sure to come and taste them all. Which brings me to my next point... the staff is there to help.., but also, to let you sample all of the flavors you want. My favorite ice cream is the darkest chocolate flavor. Creamy and chocolaty. It is a classic flavor with a new twist. This month they have space flavors... the cosmic bloom is out of this world!
google avatar

Yelp
Best ice cream ever. And the waffle cones are better than any other place around. It's right in the Decatur square and so convenient to stop over and snag some goodness. Service is always so friendly and helpful and let you try out flavors without any attitude or judgement lol.

Yelp
Visiting Atlanta. First time coming to this Jeni's in (neighboring) Decatur. Said, "uh.. still trying it out" after a long delay of me doing nothing. The person behind the counter seemed a bit annoyed, which surprised me. Eventually understood I needed time to decide what I was doing / getting. I sampled about 3 flavors. Darkest chocolate, brown sugar almond brittle, and Texas sheet cake. Each time the young lady seemed (considerably more) annoyed bc I was giving long pauses in between, and seemed unsure of everything. Finally got asked to decide after a long delay, and I guess there was a line forming behind me. I don't understand why not just switch to them as I was just running around sampling flavors with naught a care in the world, but I guess it's whatever. The wording actually was like "You can get the standard cup, that's the smallest one. So you can try 2. So did you like the chocolate flavors of those ones?" So not too rude, but putting unduly pressure on me, so felt like I was being put on the spot the same. Like I say, it's all just whatever to me. I decided to go w/ the Standard Cup because that's what I felt like, I guess. Also their cheapest option looks like, though at 7$ plus taxes and (lack of) tip, I feel that's pushing it a bit. But whatever, it's my birth-week so I try to put on a not-altogether dark smile, and have a good(ish) time. So the Standard size, though I wasn't much feeling it I had that w/ the Darkest Chocolate & Texas Sheet Cake. Not really sure what/why I was doing what I was doing. I mean the flavors and/or taste weren't even halfway to the roof. And I had half of it, I guess I liked the Texas SC slightly more, but it was definitely a toss-up. I didn't really understand this Jeni's overall, TBH. So I walked a little bit outside in the narrow streets under the hot summer sun, or I tried to anyway. I didn't get far but till the central courtyard, then I realized I was dancing in the shade and worrying about that overmuch rather than relaxing or tasting whatever I'd gotten, so I abandoned that idea after a while. Headed back inside the store, grabbed a round marble table with a seat for two, then waited as someone else helped me finish the rest. Overall, great? Nah, not really. Would I come back again? Nope, not unless they paid me to. I guess ok spot, I feel like I'm down with Jeni's, but for some reason this location wasn't really my vibe, and I wasn't really feeling it. It is what it is, I s'pose.

Yelp
Came here for a quick pit stop as it was another hotlanta day. After seeing all the flavors available, I asked if samples were possibly provided in which they luckily were! My first and only sample ended up being the Brown Butter Almond Brittle. I only asked for one scoop of but ended up with two as I presume that's the standard serving but if I knew that then I would have seen if I could have paired my first flavor choice with another. I suppose its more reason to come back to this quaint little shop with a handful of small chairs to sit at. As you may be able to guess, I will certainly be back again for their creamy and sweet treats!

Yelp
I love Jeni's and usually find myself here for some ice cream to cool down or for dessert after dinner, but that might just be because there are so many locations around the city. I love their ice creams since they have some unique flavors and there are seasonal ones that are here for a limited time. When you step into the shop, you'll usually smell fresh waffle cones/bowls being made. It smells so good! If you're around the Decatur Square area to shop or dine, this location is right off the Square. There's a couple tables inside; if it's crowded, head to the square to sit in the grass or walk around. If it's your first time, definitely ask for samples; the employees are really nice. I usually ask them for recommendations too, although I usually default to one of my staples: brambleberry crisp and brown butter almond brittle, depending on my mood. I really liked the rainbow buttermilk frozen yogurt on my last visit. Perfect for a summery vibe. Parking: if you navigate to the address, it should take you to a lot, just make sure to pay attention to signs for parking fees. There are other small lots around Decatur Square as well. Street parking nearby is hourly.

Yelp
Tasty, creamy ice cream with many flavor options. Salted caramel was probably one of the best I've had. Brambleberry was also delicious, wife loved their blackout chocolate. I only wish they had mint! One of the kind workers let a homeless man try a few flavors even though she clearly knew he wouldn't buy anything. Kindness still exists!

Yelp
Jeni's Ice Cream is most certainly splendid. It was 9 p.m. and there was still a line out the door. Clearly everyone in the area knew Jeni's was the place you just had to be. I had a scoop of egg nog and Mexican hot chocolate in a waffle cone. Let's start off with the waffle cone... I mean come on. They make it right in front of you. It's warm off the press and delicious. I don't usually get a waffle cone, but I had to get one here. The egg nog scoop was perfect. It didn't taste artificial and the flavor wasn't too overpowering. The Mexican hot chocolate had a great amount of kick to it. It's not everyday you get a scoop of ice cream with some heat. Loved it. If you have a peanut allergy they handle it very well here. The staff was incredibly friendly. They got separate containers of ice cream out of the back and allergen scoopers. It always goes a long way when ice cream spots do this.

Yelp
This is probably my second-favorite Jeni's in Atlanta. Only because it's the closest to where I've lived the past 4 years. I took off one star because the parking situation is a bit more dicey in Downtown Decatur. There are some small lots, a few garages, but mostly I've chosen to do street parking as of late. The store is located on the town square, above the MARTA station so definitely super convenient. I've come here probably at least 5 times by now. It's somewhere I go for a pick me up or to celebrate.

Yelp
I will always and forever scream for Jeni's. My girlfriends and I spent a day exploring downtown Decatur and couldn't have ended our day on a sweeter note. Saw that there was a Jeni's nearby and I just couldn't leave without getting a scoop or two! It didn't take much convincing to get my friend to come along. This location is right in the square. It's small, but there's indoor and some outdoor seating. Jeni's does a great job of hiring team members. The staff at all the Jeni's I've been to -- and I've been to a handful or more -- has always been pleasant and helpful. This location is no exception. They took their time with us and let us sample as many as we wanted. I may sample different flavors, but I always end up with my absolute favorite, salty caramel followed by coffee with cream and sugar. I can't put into words how amazing the ice cream is so you'll just have to trust me on this!

Yelp
A few nights ago, we stopped by here after having dinner at BOHO 115 just a couple of doors down, and we weren't disappointed (are we ever at Jeni's?). It had been a very long time since our last visit, so I stuck with my tried and true favorite: gooey butter cake. And I'm pretty sure they found a way to add even more cake to the mix than the last time I ordered it! Husband chose wildberry lavender, strawberry buttermilk and brambleberry crisp. We each got the trio aka three scoops, but we always split it into more than one serving and save some for later. There were two small families in front of us, and that gave us time to decide what we wanted. It didn't take them long... the amount of time you'd expect for people to provide samples and scoop orders when there's only a couple of people working on a weekday. When it was our turn, the employee helping us was patient as we tasted a couple of flavors we'd never had before. Also, we were taking our ice cream to go to enjoy at home. Since we'd ordered the buttercrisp waffle bowls as well, she packed them up separately for us to add our ice cream to on our own. Very much appreciated! Long story short... Jeni's is always a good idea!

Yelp
I was hanging out with my brother and happened upon this shop. OM the smell when you walk in is intoxicating; it's sweet but doesn't give you a headache. We split a triple: Chocolate, Coffee, and Honey Vanilla Bean The ice cream is smooth. The flavors are not all unique but still separate themselves from other brands. --- and I like ice cream so ... The staff was nice. The line moved at a steady pace and it was busy. The inside was clean. I do t think you could ask for anything more. Any time I'm in downtown Decatur, I will pop in for a scoop. Til next time
google avatar

Shami P.

Yelp
The ice cream here is always delicious and creamy and always in stock with the flavors that we want! This place is so popular and always has a line but is always worth it. The people there are friendly and very competent and patient. It is located in a great spot to walk around with your ice cream or even space inside to sit and eat, but seats are limited. Definitely would recommend this location.

Yelp
I have been a Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream lover for years. The Decatur shop was the first location I visited, so it will always be special to me. The moment you enter, the sweet aroma of waffle cones hits your nose. The staff is always friendly and kind, and the store is always clean and bright. My favorite flavor is probably the brown butter almond brittle. If I want more than one flavor, I often pair two of my other favorites: wildberry lavender + darkest chocolate. The last flavor I had was the golden nectar, which became an instant favorite of mine as well. Other honorable mentions are coffee with cream and sugar, skillet cinnamon roll, brambleberry crisp... I could go on and on. You really can't go wrong.
google avatar

Yelp
Tried the location inside of Krog Street Market. The employee was so nice and patient when it came to trying the different flavors. She also gave recommendations based off what we do and don't like. I got the single cup that comes with two scoops and a cute triangle waffle cone piece. For my scoops I got the Gooey Butter Cake and the Vanilla. That Gooey Butter Cake is off the chain, absolutely delicious!! The vanilla was okay, lacked a strong vanilla flavor. The waffle cone alone is delicious, it's so good my friend only ordered two cones to go. Overall 5/5
google avatar

Yelp
Yes, yes yes, a thousand times YES! I love Jeni's. Brambleberry crisp is my favorite. If there's a Jeni's nearby, I'm there! I also love, love, loooooooove ice cream! Especially when there are different and unique flavors. Jeni's definitely hits that mark.
google avatar

Ellie M.

Yelp
The staff is always super nice and helpful. The ice cream cannot be beaten. This is hands down the best ice cream I've had in Atlanta. The ice cream emphasizes flavor and texture over just being sweet. Delish!
google avatar

Meredith P.

Yelp
Loved this spot! There a good separation from. The line and then the seating which has the cute banners on the ceiling. We frequent Jeni's often. They seemed to have more merch here! I loved the convenience. We came over after dinner and sat in the square and enjoyed someone playing the violin while we sat and had our ice cream. Service was great, and the space was bigger than most Jeni's that I have seen. Lots of seating options- even if it's not IN Jeni's, there's seating close by. Patio options and mostly outdoor. Never a disappointment.
google avatar

Isabel L.

Yelp
Splendid ice cream! Splendid staff! We popped during the international festival today. The line was out the door but so worth the wait. Per usual, this location was cute and had plenty off seating. I ordered the Texas Sheet Cake in a waffle cone. It was smooth and delicious. Yummo!
google avatar

Natasha D.

Yelp
I'm obsessed with the brown butter almond brittle flavor of Jeni's. In general, all of the flavors are high quality but I don't enjoy others as much as the brown butter. There's always a super long line out the door of this location in Decatur square. Even on a rainy and cold Saturday night there were still quite a few people inside, but thankfully no line. We picked up two containers to go as well as two waffle bowls. My only small complaint is how expensive it is! We paid something like $12 for each small pint. You can buy the same exact thing in Publix for way cheaper.
google avatar

Angela B.

Yelp
I hate inconsistency. We've been coming since they opened. My daughter doesn't eat chocolate and that's all I eat. We usually split a trip one in a separate bowl. Today we were told they have never done it that way. Just don't lie. It wasn't about the money but it is all about how you treat me.
google avatar

Pranjali S.

Yelp
Interesting flavors and the ice cream itself is delicious. I tasted the rainbow yogurt which was really tart, the gooey butter cake which was super sweet and the strawberry yogurt which was just right. I took the gooey butter cake to try something different from what I normally try. It was a big portion and quite sweet so I couldn't finish it all. My friends inhaled through theirs though :)

Yelp
Oh. My. Goodness!!!!!!! Go to Jeni's when you can, I never thought how amazing this place was until we stumbled upon it while hanging out in downtown Decatur. We had to wait in line, but as you come up to the store front you a greeted with the most deliciousness smell of sweet waffles - they make their waffle cones by hand and the smells fills the air inside and outside the store. All the ice creams look so yummy, but what we ordered was very good: Brown Butter Almond Brulee: Single with waffle cone on the side. they put the whole thing in a cup, which is really convenient. This ice cream was the perfect ice cream, IMO and of course their waffle cones were perfection. NOt too warm once it was accompaniment with the ice cream. Brambleberry Crisp - just the scoop comes with a little piece of waffle cone and is was not too sweet and prefect for the kids. Rainbow Buttermilk Frozen Yogurt - this flavor I will say is a little "perfumy" and I maybe not the best for the kids. We ordered a scoop and again it came with a piece of waffle cone. This place is super clean, smells amazing everywhere and staff is super friendly. They stay open late too which is fun for a ice cream night cap.

Yelp
Initially after dinner, I had decided to go to Butter & Cream since there is a Jeni's closer to where I live, but the line was long there and didn't seem to be moving too quickly so I ended up at Jeni's which I had been wanting to try! The line here was a shorter and moved much more quickly. It didn't look like they were doing samples so I decided not to even ask (mostly because a line had also formed behind me and if there's something I can't decide on, it's unique flavors of ice cream). I ended up getting a standard 2 scoop with texas sheet cake and blackout chocolate cake. Yes I do love chocolate and yes I was worried this would make me hate it. While I can certainly admit that I eat ice cream at a snail's pace, the top scoop needed to be stacked on more forcefully. After a couple bites, it started sliding around and if it wasn't for my helpful boyfriend taking bites to round out the shape, I would have been crying over a lopsided scoop that slid off and splattered on the ground. The flavors were chocolatey, but not OVERLY so I didn't hate my life decisions after finishing everything. I could taste the dairy-free chocolate against the regular chocolate ice cream. Texturally it was identical, but there was a just a tinge of burnt flavor in the texas sheet cake. I'd still get it again if i wanted to do dairy-free, so it's not bothersome to me, but noticeable. I'll definitely be back at Jeni's!!

Yelp
Food.... Ice cream. Service not so good. Ambiance poor worst store I've ever visited. The entrance door was locked 37 minutes early, water was on the floor the whole length of the counter. I'm almost thinking they ( the ladies) working put it on the floor to keep people from coming in! I'm not pleased with the staff.
google avatar

Matthew D.

Yelp
Always great service at this Jenis Ice cream! It's our favorite one to go to. And you can hang out in the square of decatur while enjoying your ice cream. Didn't realize I already reviewed this
google avatar

Carter E.

Yelp
This place is always my go-to place after dinner for desert. This place is always clean and nice. The employees are also the same. Love this place. Will always come back
google avatar

Samantha V.

Yelp
I've been meaning to try Jenny's in Decatur Square but a little hater called lactose intolerance held me back. Today I decided to go for it because it's really nice out and Decatur is my home. OMG! Amazing. I can't even recall the flavor make but it had butter, cake and caramel. So good. And their waffle cones are made in-house and are so fresh. I'll be back. Did I mention that my cone was free for my birthday? Amazing me!

Amogus B.

Yelp
Jeni's just isn the same anymore. It serves delicious ice cream and has friendly faces, but the vibe is different. Times have changed many things over the years but a big thing that's missing from Jeni's is soul. It's lacking personality and it feels like any run at the mill restaurant.

William W.

Yelp
DO NOT come to any of the places in this area. This is a parking scam trap. Until they fix the parking and make it realistic then go. Example, $15 for 30 min, if you go over $100 fine
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
If you haven't had Jeni's, then you're missing out. I swear, it's pretty much always a 5 star experience when I go to a Jeni's. The flavors are great, but I always have the go to's that we usually tend towards. At the time that I went there isn't any sampling due to COVID, so you just sort of have to go with intuition and guess. I usually get the lavender (well, the wife gets it) and then I just kind of steal off of her ice cream... But for real, if you're looking for a pint yourself from Jeni's (one that you can't get at a Publix like Frose Sorbet) you can definitely get it here. Overall, if you haven't tried Jeni's, I would highly suggest a visit.

Erwin V.

Yelp
The ice cream is always the best, but this location's service has a lot to learn from the Sandy Springs and Alpharetta locations. They barely scoop enough ice cream to make one scoop. Two scoops from this location barely cover 3/4 of the waffle cone. They are not friendly to every customer, they were not as friendly to the group behind me Definitely not coming back to this location.
google avatar

Cherise N.

Yelp
I've been told that I haven't fully moved into Atlanta until I've tried Jeni's ice cream. Well today I became and official Georgian. I scream for ice cream everyday and I finally stopped screaming after trying Jeni's! My favorite is the brown butter almond brittle! It's the signature for a reason. I love that they give you the trio option it's like having a sampler. No long review, just come!
google avatar

James A.

Yelp
Best lane for a great treat. Took my wife here after a late dinner and enjoyed ourselves. The ambience of the area, ice cream cones, and great service compounded for one helluva nightcap.
google avatar

Prettie B F.

Yelp
The service is always fast and the staff is always friendly. I love that they have dairy free options, although I wish it was a better variety.
google avatar

Antwon C.

Yelp
We decided to stop by here after dinner. There was a line but it moved very quickly. It was hard to choose but I decided to go with the Gooey Butter Cake it was delicious. The homemade waffle cone is one of the best waffle cones I've had. Would definitely return.
google avatar

Moyosore A.

Yelp
Amazing ambience and great ice cream! This cute little side of Decatur holds a gem. You can go wrong with any ice cream selection. Also awesome, they have non-dairy options. Take your kids to the area and enjoy a nice walk. Sometimes lines are long and through The door but staff is amazing
google avatar

Tamanna G.

Yelp
Always the best! Never disappoints, I've tried many flavors and taken friends here just o hang or walk around Decatur square. The ambiance is great, very neat and the staff is very friendly. I love their whiskey pecan ice-cream, highly recommend. The aroma of butter waffles just draws you in to the store. They offer scoops in a cup or cone, and have pints too. They surprising also carry Boylan distillery's soda and root beer. Good for groups and just to hang by yourself. They have a parking near the courthouse and you can also park at the public parking on the other side and walk around the square.
google avatar

Christine F.

Yelp
I rarely eat ice cream, so when I really want to treat myself, I head right over to Jeni's on the Decatur Square. I feel like you must know Jeni's is special right off the bat because there is always a line of customers no matter what time it is. Once you taste their Bramble-berry Crisp flavor, you'll understand why. Rich, creamy, tart, sweet and decadent all come to mind; it's heavenly! I feel like Jeni's is a pretty good deal compared to a lot of other dessert options, too. You get two big scoops and you can mix and match for around 6 bucks. Sometimes I splurge a little more to get one of their delicious homemade waffle cones. Yum!
google avatar

Chardy C.

Yelp
A PARTY IN MY MOUTH! I want to rate these flavors, but each one added something special! I enjoy fruity flavors, but I decided to throw something different in the mix and was not disappointed! Try these and let me know what you think about it!
google avatar

Sanaa C.

Yelp
This ice cream is DELISH! Very creamy and fresh tasting! It is a little on the pricey side though... The staff is very patient as you sample a few flavors...or many ;) Open one up in Dallas please!
google avatar

Gina N.

Yelp
Samples are back! Everything I tasted was so delicious! I ended up getting the savannah buttermint (it's like chocolate chip mint but white) and the gooey butter cake (their most popular flavor). They also had a savory flavor - the everything bagel.
google avatar

Teresa M.

Yelp
Creamy delicious ice cream in flavors that are original and creative. The service is always prompt and courteous.
google avatar

Yelp
The best ice cream my mouth has ever met , it come with cones and spoons which is convenient ,BUT the price not so sweet a great treat for any Adult out here working hard!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Jeni's Ice Cream is hands down the best ice cream spot in Atlanta. It's not even close, don't waste your time going anywhere else!!!

Yelp
Ahhhhh Jeni's! It was a hot day and I was in the mood for a cool treat, so we decided to grab some ice cream at Jeni's. The line was outside of the door when we arrived, but it moved quickly. They have really unique flavors on the menu and I was told that they change seasonally. My son was indecisive, so the staff let him sample a few. I chose the brambleberry crisp and gooey butter cake because of the great reviews. Not sure why, but I honestly didn't expect it to be as good as it was. It was definitely some of the best ice cream I've ever had. The gooey butter cake was my favorite of the two. It consists of cream cheese ice cream, vanilla cake and caramel butterscotch sauce. Seriously delicious! The serving sizes were ideal for trying different flavors. The downtown Decatur location is awesome. You can grab some ice cream and walk the square. The staff was also great and I'm looking forward to returning and trying more delicious ice cream flavors.
google avatar

Yelp
What can be said. Jeni's ice cream is always incredible. This is the Decatur location, but you can walk into any shop and experience euphoria just from the fresh waffle aroma alone. They always do a good job. This ice cream is truly addictive. I might have to investigate further!!!

Yelp
What's not to love about Jeni's the waffle cone is one of the best I've had. Sweet with a toasted flavor. This location is right near the lawn so you can enjoy the air and greenery. There is no indoor seating at this time (covid) but perfect for a summer walk and date night vibe.

Yelp
Damn this place is good! There's creative flavors and the texture is creamy and smooth. I'll be back! Oh and it was also free today for anyone who works at the children's hospital which is a nice way to give back to nurses and others who are working so hard right now.

Yelp
This place is located in Decatur square so it's very convenient. The staff was super nice which is a plus because some icecream joints are annoying and don't let you taste. I tasted whiskey something (good and tasted like whiskey), Bangkok peanut (very interesting and coco nutty even tho i don't like coconut it was good), strawberry (uh huh good), sweet cream (eh not so good), and gooey butter cake (now this was my fave). The icecream was lovely, the place is cute, and i enjoyed myself. Prices are reasonable too. And the customer service was a 10!
