"Dubrovnik’s star turn as King’s Landing in HBO’s Game of Thrones brought a new immediacy to the city’s historic sites. The infamous Season 5 “Walk of Shame” scene took place on the Jesuit Staircase that descends from Gundulić Square to St. Ignatius Church. Climb to the highest point of the City Walls—the round medieval Minčeta Tower, which stood in as the House of the Undying in Qarth. And fans can visit the Game of Thrones souvenir shop (Boškovićeva street ) to have their photo taken on a replica Iron Throne."

A Grand Stairway Steeped in History and Drama – Jesuit Stairs, Dubrovnik Tucked away in the heart of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, the Jesuit Stairs are one of the city's most iconic and photogenic landmarks — and for good reason. Climbing this elegant Baroque staircase feels like stepping into a scene from a historical drama (or quite literally, Game of Thrones), thanks to their dramatic design and cinematic location. The stairs connect Gundulić Square with the Jesuit Church of St. Ignatius at the top. Designed in the 1730s by Roman architect Pietro Passalacqua, they were clearly inspired by the famous Spanish Steps in Rome, and they offer a similarly grand atmosphere — though on a much more intimate scale. From the base, the view upwards is absolutely stunning, especially early in the morning before the crowds roll in. As you climb, you’re surrounded by stone walls, baroque architecture, and the kind of old-world charm that Dubrovnik is known for. At the top, you’re rewarded with a peaceful square and a chance to pop into the beautiful St. Ignatius Church, which is well worth a look inside. For Game of Thrones fans, this is also where the infamous “Walk of Shame” begins — though you won’t feel any shame taking a hundred photos here. It’s that picturesque. Tips: Visit early or late in the day for the best light and fewer people. If you’re into photography, bring a wide-angle lens — the architecture deserves it. It's a short climb, but wear good shoes; the steps can be slippery when worn down by centuries of footsteps. Verdict: A must-see in Dubrovnik, whether you're a history buff, a GOT fan, or just a lover of beautiful places. Don’t miss it!

The famous "Shame Stairs" from Game of Thrones are open again after being cleaned over the winter. We initially went to see them in the afternoon. Frankly, it was crowded and full of people trying to get their photos. We returned the next day at about 7:00 in the morning, and it was empty. If you really want special photos of the staircase, I highly recommend getting there early in the morning before the tours start.

Beautiful staircase! Leeds to a Church. It was definitely a popular picture spot long before its Game of Thrones fame. Gets super crowded by lunch time so if you want to get a proper photo you need to ho super early in the morning.

The Jesuit Stairs are one of Dubrovnik’s most iconic landmarks, famously featured in the “Walk of Shame” scene from Game of Thrones. While the spot tends to be quite crowded — especially during peak hours — it’s definitely worth a visit for both fans of the series and history lovers alike. The architecture is beautiful, and the stairs open up to a charming square at the top. Once you reach the top, don’t miss Kopun, a fantastic restaurant just a few steps away. The food is excellent, the setting is peaceful despite the tourist buzz, and it’s a perfect reward after the climb. Right next to it, you’ll also find St. Ignatius Church, a stunning baroque church that adds to the beauty and serenity of the area. Whether you’re exploring Dubrovnik for its cinematic fame or its cultural depth, the Jesuit Stairs are a must-see — just try to go early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid the crowds!

Went there early in the morning to get some drone shots of the entire old town. The experience was great but had my black drone down moment when portions took it out. The peace and quiet in the morning is nice. When ships come in bay with passengers exploring, this place gets shoulder to shoulder busy. So time your visit.

3/15/25 - also shake stairs from GOT. Very crowded during the day due to it being the main tourist attraction. If you are visiting and want pictures arrive very early. It is a public, so it is open at all hours

Wow what a nice place! It was a bit crowded but if you’re into GoT then it’s a must visit. There’s also a small bar at the bottom of the stairs where there’s a small bell which rings every 3-4 minutes and you’re bound to hear someone say “Shame” like the show! There’s also a shamejito that you can purchase.

Fav place to chill and people watch ! You can order the walk of shame drinks at some restaurants nearby and watch people do their walk of shame. The restaurant arka had really good food and red wine we came back another time. Alex the waiter there made my entire trip ! It gets empty past 10:30pm or come when it has a light drizzle or early morning. If not part of the charm is taking your walk with people around as well.
