Hi folks! The "All or Nothing Yelper" here to share a tale of fine dinery, memorable moments, and flavor bursts that your taste buds will forever long for.
Following the pandemic, I had tried to get to Jigger's, but my timing never seemed to be right. I recall them being closed during the week, not sure if that is still a thing or not but I do remember finding Dante's Kitchen one of those days due to Jigger's being closed so I cannot be upset really. That being said, today I walked right into Jigger's, sat down, and had a coffee and water in front of me in the first minute or so! Everything was right in the world, and it was about to get better!
My order: 2 Eggs and Hash w/2 sides - Italian Toast / Homefries w/Grilled Onions
And because I love blueberry pancakes...1 Blueberry Pancake
Let me preface this by noting that I am a hash fanatic, I have to try it if it is on the menu, I frequently use the adjective "hashtastic," and hashtagging is when I take photos of my hash and send them to my friends followed by a short message the says "#hashtagged."
Jigger's has the best hash I have ever had. The flavor was robust, the texture was melt in your mouth tender with a subtle pan-fried crunch from a well seasoned flat-top. This hash will forever be remembered. There are not a lot of places that make their own hash, and in my experience, it is really hit or miss when it comes to quality. I will be looking for the same quality next time and I am hopeful that I will get it here.
The eggs were over-easy, delicate puddles of yolk perfect for dipping my italian toast and piling on the hash for a perfect combination move at the breakfast counter.
The pancake was good, but I will get to that later.
The homefries...while they could not steal the show from the hash, they were some of the best I have had in a long time. Meaty potato bites with that same flat-top crunchifried texture. But that is not all, per the suggestion from my server, I added grilled onions to them. I will be forever grateful to the server and their recommendation. The home fries left me wanting more and had I not also ordered the blueberry pancake, I would have considered it. No need for ketchup or hot sauce, they were perfect. Each bite danced on the fork like a well choreographed syncronized swim team. I had to force myself to slow down and come up for air.
But let me just touch on the toast. I know...what could be so great about Italian toast? When I made the decision to switch from English muffins to Italian toast many moons ago, it was a big deal, and since doing so, I find that most breakfast places give you the end of the loaf. I am not sure if it is just my timing or what, but you would be surprised how often this happens. My guess is they use the full-size slices for sandwiches on the lunch menu. At Jigger's, this was not the case. The toast was meant for me. It wasn't the leftover pieces most places would use for croutons and bread crumbs. I appreciate that.
THE PANCAKE - it was good, texture was good, blueberry to cake ratio was solid. In fact, the pancake was delicious but in the end it came down to the cost. A single blueberry pancake was $7.00. This was not a $7.00 pancake. $4.99 for the single pancake, $1.99 for blueberries. To be honest, the meal itself was so amazing that I did not notice the price until after I paid and tipped. I was fully content with paying the $26.00 bill + $10 tip for breakfast for one because it was so incredible. $7.00 for one pancake is just a tad high in my opinion.
In conclusion, if you have not put the time in getting into Jigger's, or if you love hash, or maybe you are a breakfast fanatic like myself, make the time. You will not regret it. I wish I took a picture but the excitement of breakfast got the best of me. Stay hashy folks!
