"In recent years, in search of a way to revitalize their dying village, the Chilkat people of Klukwan (near Haines) built the Jilkaat Kwaan Heritage Center. The center brought jobs back to Klukwan, providing good reason for people who had moved to Haines and beyond to take up residence in the village again. What’s been good for them is also very good for visitors. Though you can poke around on your own at Jilkaat Kwaan, you’ll learn more (and have loads more fun) if you sign on for a guided tour and culture camp. At culture camp you’ll learn about the art of fish drying, traditional dancing, Chilkat weaving, and more. Don’t skip the gift shop—you’ll want to see (and buy) the handmade crafts that local village members sell."
Beautiful place. Gives a visitor so much insight and respect for the native people of this part of the world. Highly recommend

Fascinating, authentic glimpse into a culture being embraced and reclaimed by the descendants of its creators. Our guides were 21st century enthusiasts of a way of life that has a lot to teach us all.

The place is very nice, the narration and experience were good. Unless you're very much into history of various human cultures I don't think it'll be too exciting. If you're an ancient culture enthusiast, you'll like it.

Beautiful 😍, clan artifacts and tours are done here. This is the Tlingit Mother Village of Klukwan. The largest Bald Eagle Reserve sits right next "door" here on the Chilkat River. 🦅

Great native cultural center with 3 historic tribal houses, including the frog house, recently returned. The guide was there to answer questions to give more context. There are also telescopes for watching eagles.

They have amazing artifacts from the old Tlingit clan houses in Klukwan. The craftsmanship is great. One of the carvers is said to be the Michaelangelo of the north west. The collection includes house posts (similar to totem pole a in style) and rainwall screens. The tour was very educational. They tell old stories and perform dances. I had a great time!

It is a small museum with interesting First Nation exhibits but not the totem poles we were led to believe we're here. Additionally, the price is quite steep for the half hour it takes to cover everything in there.
