Great breakfast and lunch spot in downtown Greenville! Historic location with lots of character. Old man’s liar table in the back! Breakfast is eggs, toast or biscuit, grits and bacon or sausage. It’s good. Great hot lunches; a meat and three. The burgers are good, club sandwich is good. Homemade salad dressings, excellent comeback. Vegetables are seasoned well. Great, friendly service. Fast, efficient and a good value. Chicken and dressing with cranberry sauce allows for Thanksgiving year-round. Every Wednesday! Beef tips are like a roast and the gravy is savory. Good rice. Butterbeans are seasoned with salt and black pepper. Sweet potato casserole is sweet, creamy and a quasi-dessert! Eat here often! It’s comfort food!

Sitting near the tail end strip of downtown Greenville is this lovely, local diner. The food was delicious and comforting, and I loved the homemade hot sauce for my from scratch biscuits and gravy. Lots of locals dining, chatting, making it a very lively experience. It's adjacent to where the original Stein Mart location opened. First time seeing a taxidermied, Peccary, tusked, Large Mouth Bass. I wonder what this mythical beast's name is?

Do yourself a favor and make it a point to stop in here to eat if you are ever passing through Leland. Jim's Cafe has been in business at this location since 1909. The family that owns and operates this business is the fourth generation. This family has owned this business for over 90 years! The food is pure Southern home cooking at its best. The Southern hospitality is as good as it gets. We arrived today at 12:30. It was packed with locals. All eyes were on us as we entered because they were trying to figure out who the strangers were. By 1:30, it was pretty cleared out. They have daily specials, and we overheard the server telling some late comers about some side dishes that they were out of already. It was Wednesday, and we both ordered the daily special. You are given a choice of two meats and three side dishes. I got the chicken and dressing. My wife got the beef tips over Rice. We both thought we ordered the best dish. The sweet potato casserole was to die for good. It was right on par with the Cherry Cheese Pie. So glad we made this stop today.

The food was good, the service was friendly and helpful, I can recommend this little out of the way Cafe that's been serving Greenville for over a hundred years 👌

The sign in the door reads "No masks allowed, no hoodies allowed". And not a single person was wearing one. 6/22/21 Ok, the only reason I'm here, only reason I've even heard of the restaurant or the town, was Alton Brown's second "Feasting on Asphalt" special from the "Good Eats" days. He had pancakes w/beef tips because they didn't have chicken & waffles. I'd have been happy with either. Neither is available. The lady who seated us seemed to want to be anywhere else doing anything else. Fortunately, the other lady took our order and had a perceptible sense of humor and tolerance of humans. Menu is straightforward, we went with a club sandwich & biscuits & gravy, sweet tea & a lemonade. Can't get much more Southern. (One menu item was a "clump of tuna". Avoided that.) The biscuits were a bit over-toasted but the sausage gravy was good as was the sandwich & fries. The bathrooms are....something else. No locks, no handles, look like they're 40 yrs old. Clean-ish, better than many a convenience store but in need of some serious work. Was 4 stars until that point.

Awesome place to eat. Great history behind the restaurant. Same family has owned it since the early 1900’s. Our food has fantastic and the hash browns are great. If we make it back to the area again we will definitely stop back in

Google
Found this quaint little place off google. The reviews made it even more appealing so we had to try it out. We went for late breakfast on a Wednesday morning. Very friendly staff. Decorated with pictures from old times. Was established in 1909. Met the nice lady who’s grandfather bought it from Jim so it’s been in her family for over 60 years. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cleanliness ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Staff (Front and Back) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly Recommend Will definitely stop by next time we pass through. Also, thanks for the history lesson.

Google
Absolutely the BEST hash browns I’ve ever had in my life! Crispy, fresh and yummy! The jelly was homemade strawberry, also delicious. Jim’s is a step back in time, but worth the stop. Great food and atmosphere.

Yelp
When I asked for the best breakfast place in town to two locals they both immediately said Jim's Cafe. Places like this are what makes the Mississippi Delta a destination location to see and eat. Greenville is just a shadow of what it once was. Businesses and people come and go Jim's Cafe weathered the storm. I had bacon biscuits and they were awesome. Handmade biscuits with crispy bacon. One more superb spot. Head to Greenville. See and eat Mississippi.

Yelp
Great little dive diner! Our party of six was treated to a friendly staff and delicious food. Everyone was very happy with their order. The extra crispy hand-shredded hash browns were particularly fantastic!

Alicia D.

Yelp
You can't go wrong with anything. Jim's cafe has been in business for 90 years and everything on the menu is homemade.

Yelp
Completely gross. Water stains on the walls and ceilings. It's dirty. The mold smell in the restroom is overwhelming and feels hard to breathe. But the giant beetle in my companion's greens took the cake. Their response? They need to check the cameras to see where the bug came from. The waitress was as horrified as we were but the older lady at the register was just mad we were making a deal out of it. In the end she comped the one lunch but not the rest of us who had the same thing. Never going back. It's disgusting.

Tom S.

Yelp
great food. great place. diff options on the menu will suprise you with the quality and content. breakfast is the bomb

Karen M.

Yelp
Take a step back in time. Old time cafe with great breakfast. The hash browns are the best I've ever had. They treat you like a friend. Good coffee too! I'm picky about hot sauce. I don't like the ones that taste like vinegar. Their's is homemade & yummy! Bought a huge bottle (whiskey bottle) to take home.

Clark O.

Yelp
If your vehicle can handle the streets, head downtown for home cooking. Great plate lunches! Local crowd.

Ben L.

Yelp
Made a wrong turn and spotted this Cafe . I love hamburgers and have tried them all over the southern U.S. and they have the best hamburger I've ever eaten ! I highly recommend this place ! Go talk to the Burger King and tell him you want a dirty burger! You want be sorry!

Jennifer B.

Yelp
I have to be honest. The only reason we came here is because Doe's Eat Place (open for dinner) was closed and it was the only place open that wasn't a chain (we want local). We were able to find a booth to sit. The waitress was right behind us taking our drink order. We ordered the sweet tea. The menu isn't too extensive and they had some specials that we didn't try. She said they are famous for their burgers so that's what we got. My SO got the Chili Slaw which is a patty topped with their homemade chili and slaw and it's served with homemade chips. I ordered the cheeseburger with their onion rings. I have the say that the waitress was right. The burger I got was amazing! The bread it's served on is fresh and has a ton of flavor and the patty was made with quality beef. I was disappointed in the onion rings. No taste at all. Too bad. My SO was disappointed in the chili. Said it took away from the flavors of the meat and bread. I tasted it. It wasn't good chili at all. But the homemade chips! They were good! This is a traditional old school diner. If you come here get the house cheeseburger and homemade chips.

Yelp
I ate here about 5 years ago and thought I'd reviewed it already but I guess not since I couldn't find a review. The place has been here forever...like 100 years or more or something like that. Very quaint, old and nostalgic. It would appear many a celebrity has eaten here as they've displayed pictures with actors/actresses, etc that have made movies here posing with ownership. Interesting to look at but let's get to the food. I had a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and it was good. The fries were homemade/hand-cut and they too, were quite good. The service...not so good. 2 waitresses and while they were kinda busy, you still expect a level of service even if its mediocre...it wasn't. My tea glass stood empty for most of my meal...waitress never checked, I had to flag her down. No ketchup on table...waitress dropped food off and left table not to return until I flagged her down for tea even though she she walked past my table several times...zero attention. Ketchup sorta goes hand in hand with fries but maybe not for her. ? Could've used another glass of tea but clearly that wasn't on her agenda. Never received my check so I went to counter to pay...that's when the attention came but in the form of a question, not how was everything but " do you want to leave a tip "? Not sure why but I did...but she didn't deserve it. Not one smile the entire time I was there. And...if memory serves me correctly, it was pretty much the same way the last time I ate there. It's amazing to me that places can stay in business for so long when they don't seem to care about the patrons experience. Perhaps had I been a celebrity I'd have gotten adequate condiments and beverage? lol Who knows. In closing...the parking lot is tiny, the food is good but the service stinks.

Yelp
Jim's is the quintessential small town diner, a perfect fit for a trip through the Mississippi Delta. It looks like nothing's changed in fifty years, right down to the male hen party at the big table in the back, and I don't have a problem with that. We got scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, grits, and biscuits and gravy. The only thing that wasn't top notch was the gravy, which was on the thin side and tasted more like milk than sausage drippings. But the biscuits are obviously home made, and the hash browns are really crispy and delicious. I asked for hot sauce, and the waitress asked "Do you want bottled or my own?" "Oh, yours" I answered, and boy was I glad! It's thicker than bottled sauce, a little smoky, a little sweet, and I walked out with a big bottle, adorably packaged in a repurposed wine bottle, of my own. I read in a review that they make their own jam, too, and I was kicking myself for not asking for some. I think our waitress was also an owner; she was very sweet and delighted we liked her sauce so much. Eating here is like stepping back to a simpler time, and I will definitely return when my KC-to-New Orleans trips take me through Greenville.

Yelp
Breakfast diner that makes you feel like family. Service was friendly and food was delicious. It's clearly a place that local folks frequent as evidenced by the many 'Hello's' exchanges by different guest greeting each other. Would absolutely recommend.

Bill W.

Yelp
We saw on yelp that this was a high ranked restaurant and decided to try it. My Brother and I had the best breakfast on the road that we had in 6 days. The eggs were perfect, bacon was crisp, the hash browns were great. And the coffee was the best we had on our trip, we even got one to go. Highly recommend Jim's, the ladies there are sweet as can be and make you feel at home. The cook is great and the food was wonderful. Will definitely visit next time weare in Greenville Mississippi

Jerry M.

Yelp
As advertised. 'Taste of Greenville' embraced by Jims. Went for lunch and could have stayed all afternoon just looking at the pictures! Very reasonable prices and friendly service

Lori H.

Yelp
Located by the Mississippi River in the cute historic district - this is a must see restaurant. Full of photos of movie stars and memorabilia. Their food is really good too. Ask for the homemade salsa and homemade jam. Made from fresh local produce.

John J.

Yelp
Since I wrote this review it is the only place I will eat my lunch! The folks there both customers and employees have really made me feel welcomed, almost like I was raised here. Adding a couple of pictures some of their lunch specials.

Sara N.

Yelp
This spot is full of history as you walk in, the service is great the food, is great, if you are looking for a Southern food taste with history, this is the place to go, is in the downtown area of Greenville. Full of history as you walk in, and when you leave Jim's Cafe dont forget to pick up a Buckeye at the counter for either a stress reliever or good luck when you rub it. Everything here is made to order, fresh and the taste is great!

Brooke L.

Yelp
People have the wonderful Southern hospitality. The food was well prepared but not an overly extensive menu. Could use a little fresh vegetable or fruit but great tasting. The town needs some help so if you can swing by there and support this restaurant that would be lovely

Cam C.

Yelp
If you're black and you order food at this restaurant, you may not get your order and the owner does not care. Find someplace else to go that wants and appreciates your business because this place is not it. My brother visited this place on our trip to Greenville. We stayed at the hotel while he scouted out a place for us to eat. We were planning on meeting him there about 30 min later. However, he called us to let us know that his order never arrived, after waiting almost 25 minutes for eggs, sausage, bacon and grits. He noticed everyone around him got their order BEFORE him. He paid for his coffee and juice, then left and the owner (who was standing nearby) watched and didn't say a word. Needless to say, he called us and we went someplace else that was apparently listed in the Green Book. Perhaps the fact that he was the only person of color in the restaurant should have been a red flag. Anyway, black people, beware.

Rachel K.

Yelp
This place looks like it hasn't changed a bit since 1950. I had the BLT with their homemade potato chips. Both were delicious. The chips were some of the best I've ever had. The BLT was like something your grandma would make: toasted white bread, mayo, iceberg, etc. It's one of the few spots in Greenville's little downtown that are still there. I hope it stays open for another 50 plus years!

Jackson B.

Yelp
i arrive only to learn that i'm not ALLOWED to wear a mask. if the owner doesn't want to, good for her but i just had surgery. covid is the last thing i need. lost all business she was gonna get from my family

Amanda S.

Yelp
This Greenville cafe has been around as long as I can remember. My dad used to take my brother and me to Jim's for breakfast when we were little and we still like to carry on the tradition, even though Dad's been gone for 6 years. It's a little piece of the small town fabric that makes Greenville feel like home. While Jim's serves some wonderful lunch selections, breakfast is always a good time to go......drink your coffee, enjoy that homemade jelly they give you at the table, and watch/listen to the sweet little old men that come in just to visit and eat. It's a wonderful experience!

Dennis E.

Yelp
The food was good. The homemade hot sauce was amazing! They were out of many things on the menu and did not appear to be well stocked.

Carrie C.

Yelp
I really hate myself for this review. Mostly because I know that small places like this might get a good deal of their business from their profiles on sites like Yelp. But I can't be dishonest about my trip to Jim's, so hear me out. I really think we came on an off day. And I say this because of the actual food that came out to us because the service was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and full of interesting photos of memories of Greenville through the years. But the food on the morning we came in was pretty terrible. Yelper Mom enjoyed her meal, but I have to say, I was really, really disappointed. I ordered one of their breakfast plates that came with hash browns, eggs, bacon and a biscuit, vying for a side of gravy to go along with it. Our food came out pretty fast, but somehow mine came out cold and really bland, with exception to the hash browns. When they came out they were still hot, but definitely hard and overcooked, greasy and over-salted. The eggs were cooked well, but still, cold enough that the water in them formed a puddle on the plate. And, the gravy was not gravy. Instead, it was more like flour and water with a little bit of pepper added, coming out ice cold and entirely inedible. The biscuit was homemade but kind of hard and dense, so I really have to think that this was just an off day because it looked nothing like the delicious photos I saw here on Yelp. I still hate myself for this. BUT, folks listen. The hot sauce here is out of this world. Yelper Mom and I walked out of here with a giant bottle of it and we'll likely order more when we run out. AND, I will happily come back to give Jim's second chance. I really believe that this was just 'one of those days'. There's no way a place like this could have the reputation it has by serving the food I was served on this day. In a town hit hard by economic woes out of their control, taking a step into Jim's is like taking a step back in time that I would love to take again.

Brooke S.

Yelp
Great service and food. My pancakes were enough for 3 people. Buy some homemade hot sauce. It is fantastic!

Tracy R.

Yelp
This is a "whole in the wall" cafe that is in a tired building but with the super friendly staff and tasty food it is worth a try. They make their own hot sauce and bottle it in old liquor bottles which can be purchased. (They make great gifts)

Shelby F.

Yelp
The burger are the best in town wonderful staff good plate lunches ther is historic pics all on the wall

Layla A.

Yelp
Overall breakfast and burger was 5 star. Best pancakes I ever had. Very buttery and fluffy. The only reason I gave them a 4 star was because of the customer service.

Janet M.

Yelp
Hash browns were obviously homemade and the ones that weren't too overlooked were delicious. Good homemade strawberry and blueberry jams. Good spot for a home cooked breakfast!

Betty S.

Yelp
Arrived late on a Saturday and out of grits and biscuits. Rest of menu pretty mundane.

Branan S.

Yelp
My wife and I ate here after the MS River Marathon. The waitress could not have been more personal and the pancakes were fantastic. The owner said it's been in her family for 80 years. We loved the atmosphere, the food, and hot sauce. Taking some home with us.

Vicky B.

Yelp
Nice retro diner with a good menu. The plate specials looked awesome but were all gone by the time we arrived for a late lunch. The chicken sausage gumbo was great and chicken tenders as well. Enjoyed the local people and owners. Would definitely come back.

E M.

Yelp
This place takes me back to the really good times growing up, from siting in the Tom Thumb booster seats to the homage baklava I've ever had. The hamburger steak is to die for. And all the history hanging on the walls to the stuffed alligator. I highly recommend Jim's always have and always will. And my dad Jimmy Morgan also loved this place!

Joseph P.

Yelp
Had lunch today at Jim's. The staff was very attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious, particularly the bbq chicken and the corn on the cob. If I am in Greenville again I'd definitely return- this is a great spot!

r k.

Yelp
Eating at this restaurant is like reading a history textbook on Greenville. The walls are covered with unique artifacts from Greenville's past, and the friendly proprieter, Gus, is always glad to tell you about stories from the good old days (he's practically the town historian). Plus- Gus once single handedly stopped a bank roberry. Gotta respect a guy like that. The food is delicious down-home southern cooking (I recommend the catfish) and the service is good. Definitely one of the must-see's in Greenville

Sim D.

Yelp
Had a fantastic breakfast today. Jim's is always good, but today was special because they now have great homemade hashbrowns to go along with the always great grits. Both sides complement crispy toast or biscuits with homemade jam and, if course, large eggs. And, the bacon is plentiful and cooked just right. No flat thin bacon here. What is really special is if you go around 8, you can catch the regulars, local men, and they can answer any questions about Greenville. A true city cafe; nothing fancy.

Mina B.

Yelp
Jim's is a jewel in Greenville. Great food and service. Gus is a friendly owner willing to share the proud history of his family and town. If you want a real taste of the South, don't miss Jim's and don't miss the homemade biscuits and pancakes! Yum.
