35 Places to Celebrate Black Musicians and How They Changed the World

"Famed musician and scarf-fanatic Jimi Hendrix died on September 18, 1970 after overdosing on prescription drugs, and the beloved artist was buried in a simple family grave in the same Washington cemetery as his mother. However, this simple burial did not satiate his family, fans, or the rock and roll gods. After Hendrix’s death his father, Al, had his son buried in a section of Greenwood Cemetery set aside for the family. In life, Jimi had been a man of no great means and his burial site was a simple grave that seemed incongruous with the musician’s legacy. Nonetheless, the unremarkable headstone became a magnet for his legions of devoted fans passing through Renton. With the constant traffic and Al’s continued wish to create a memorial befitting his son’s remarkable life, it quickly became apparent that the small marker would not suffice permanently. However, it was not until Al finally regained the rights to his son’s musical catalogue in 1995, that plans began in earnest for an expansion of Hendrix’s monument. Over the next few years, the marble gazebo that can be found today was built and Jimi’s body was finally reburied beneath it in 2002. The memorial consists of a stone dome held up by a trio of pillars. Within the monument is an etched portrait of Hendrix alongside frescoes of some of his lyrics as well as the original headstone, which has been remounted. The family plots now surround the memorial which is also fitted with a stone sundial just outside the entrance." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Google
This was a bucket list item. Traveled from Alabama to visit Hendrix's grave. There's nothing super spectacular about the grave site but it's very well taken care of and thank you to the management for that. I grew up listening to him after he had passed and he significantly influenced me wanting to learn to play the guitar. To be able to pay my respects was important for me. Rest in peace Jimi. You're not forgotten.

Google
For me it was spiritual going here. Considered to be the greatest guitarist ever by most in the industry, with deep meaning to his songs. So much talent and so many musical achievements by 27 and what a loss to the world at such a young age, but like castles made of sand we all slip into the sea, eventually!

Shirley Mendaros

Google
It's surreal to be in a place where a legend is buried, and although he passed 7 years before I was born, it is simply amazing to be honored in the presence.. So decades later when my younger son was born in '9, one of his biggest influence to his guitar playing is Jimi Hendrix. So in honor, I took one of his pics that he began playing guitar with and put it on Jimi Hendrix guitar on his memorial. 🎸 And although he's been gone for several decades now, his legend is alive and well in his music. Rock on Jimmy! 🎸🎸🎸 Thank you!

Google
When I learned Jimi Hendrix was buried in Renton, I had to visit and pay my respects. A massive, peaceful, beautiful memorial with respectful mementos from fans. The memorial is directly off of the road, easy to spot and park next to. No gates to worry about being locked either.

Kevin Short

Google
The memorial website does a good job retelling the hard work put in by the Hendrix family in bringing back Jimi's body, and in setting up the Memorial site. I recommend people check that out. OTOH, it's definitely worth visiting. There are more family members memorialized here. Plus, the entire site is circled by blank stones.....ready for future inscriptions?

Colin Bosler

Google
This was on my bucket list, so when work took me to Seattle, I stopped here as soon as I left the airport. The grounds and memorial are very well kept, and there are lots of lyrics, etchings, and memories to view while here. It's also nice that other family members are buried here as well. If you're a fan of Jimi's music and want to pay your respects, this is a must-see!

Guadalupe Montalvo III

Google
I visited the Memorial on Saturday 26 Oct 24, the weather was not great but it felt peaceful. Jimi Hendrix Memorial is straight ahead from the gate, you cannot miss it. Pay your respects and ofcourse enjoy the memorial, but be careful leaving behind candles...they'll break and leave glass everywhere on the floor. The area is beautiful and quiet. Seeing this memorial is a great thing to see while you're in WA, a must-see for everyone.

Christine Lisak

Google
Really gorgeous memorial for a legend ♡ What else can we say? If you're a major fan, it's definitely a stopping point for a road trip, or a fun photo op. There's a running urban legend that when you visit here, you will immediately hear his music on the radio, and for us, Purple Haze did not disappoint lol

Yelp
A master of his craft, gone too soon........... When I told my friend I wanted to visit Bruce Lee, my friend - Cory Y, also told me about the Jimi Hendrix Memorial. I guess I was a bit too young to understand and know about the popular bands in the 60's & 70's, but I have heard this name - "Jimi Hendrix" many times, and especially about his performance of the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock in 1969. As I got older, luckily there's YouTube, and it's just like I was able to go back in time as I got to watch, and see Jimi Hendrix in action. One of my personal favorite performances I saw of Jimi is this performance of Voodoo Child, check out this link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFfnlYbFEiE I also dug this song - All Along The Watchtower https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVLqFQ5QT7Y If you're a music buff, visiting Jimi Hendrix is a must if you're ever in Renton, WA.. The mausoleum where Jimi Hendrix is buried is definitely a sight to see! The Jimi Hendrix memorial features an array of murals & his quotes, as well as a Fender Stratocaster guitar which was his preferred guitar of choice. Gone too soon at a young age of 27, he will be forever remembered by his rare musical talent, and he was one of the greatest guitarist in the 20th century.

Yelp
Pretty amazing memorial. Definitely a must see if you're in the area. On site parking is free. Thanks!

Yelp
Along with the Jimi Hendrix Park and the Jimi Hendrix Statue, there is a Jimi Hendrix Memorial which is also the resting place of the famous legend. Unlike the first two which are located in Seattle, this memorial is further away in Renton. The memorial is in the Greenwood Memorial Park Funeral Home and is right in front when you enter from Monroe Avenue. The memorial consists of etched portraits of Hendrix as well as quotes from some of his songs. In the center is a guitar tombstone that takes center stage. There is no dedicated parking in the area but you can temporarily park in the surrounding area of the gazebo while you check it out. It does affect cars coming through so you should not park there for too long. This was a very peaceful place and a great memorial.

Yelp
If you live in Washington state you need to visit here at least once! It's across the street from McDonalds if you want a treat after your visit but it's absolutely beautiful here!
google avatar

Kethan Y.

Yelp
Absolute must-visit for any musicians in the Seattle area. Memorial is well kept and honors the legacy of the late Jimi Hendrix appropriately with quotes, pictures, and a statue of one of Hendrix's Fender Stratocasters. A few people were confused on the final burial place of Jimi Hendrix, and I would like to confirm that it is in fact this location in Renton where he is buried and NOT the statue in downtown Seattle. Both monuments however represent the life and legacy of one of the greatest performers to ever live.
google avatar

Derrick G.

Yelp
This is an outstanding memorial and tribute to a rock and roll legend, Jimi Hendrix. When you park in the memorial parking, you will walk towards your right and the memorial stands alone. The memorial contains numerous pictures of Jimi, as well as guitar tombstone. This is a good place to visit if you are a fan of Jimi Hendrix's music and his rock and roll legacy.

K G.

Yelp
If you're in Renton and you're a fan of Jimi Hendrix, you'll want to stop here. The whole cemetery is pretty interesting to see. The burial spot and memorial to Hendrix are well-kept and pretty cool with a guitar and panels of lyrics/photos.
google avatar

Monica A.

Yelp
When I found out the Jimi Hendrix memorial was here I knew I had to come by to pay respects to one of the most influential musicians to rock this world. It was outside walking distance downtowns before turning in my rental I made sure to stop by the areas that needed driving to. So happy to get to visit the memorial. Quiet. Peaceful. Impactful. Rest In Peace Sir Jimi!
google avatar

Ari E.

Yelp
This spot was right across the street from where I was staying. It was easy to get to. We decided to visit around sunset and it made for beautiful views. The Memorial itself was absolutely gorgeous, clean and well kept. It wasn't crowded at all, in fact we were one of only two parties there. This is another place you should at least visit once.
google avatar

Sherwin C.

Yelp
Amazing memorial for Jimi Hendrix. The marble gazebo is beautiful and features some great lyrics and drawings etched into the stone. In the middle of the Gazebo is a beautiful guitar and just outside the gazebo is a sundial. Worth a visit to see if you're in the Seattle area.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Other reviewers have covered the particulars of the memorial and included some pretty terrific photos, so I don't want to duplicate that. I would just say I really loved Jimi Hendrix's music and learned a lot about his life by reading a biography written by Charles R Cross called Room Full of Mirrors. So visiting Jimi's gravesite and memorial while in Seattle was mandatory. It's in an otherwise non-descript cemetery a pretty good distance SE of Seattle. The bus ride took 45 minutes and a transfer. The memorial is in the southwest section of the cemetery and is visible from the funeral home parking lot, so you can't really miss it. The Fender Stratocaster that's the central focus of the memorial is trademark Hendrix. People have stuck guitar picks in it and other personal items around it, and when I went it had a purple bandanna tied to the neck. It made it seem more alive and personal. Each of the walls has engraved pictures as well as a few of his song lyrics. The sides of the memorial have the burial plots of Hendrix (you would expect, anyway) and several family members. There are empty plots that one would think will be for other family members, those who are still alive. It was all a pretty cool experience. If you go to Seattle, make sure you visit, even if you have to travel by, uh, dragonfly.

Yelp
I had no idea that this was truly where this musical legend was laid to rest. We were visiting my daughters in Seattle and looking for something to do for a few hours with them. I looked on Yelp to see attractions that were close to us and I found Jimi Hendrix Memorial. We figured we'd go check it out. I love to photograph old headstones and just cemeteries in general, so it sounded like it was right up my alley anyway. The memorial did not disappoint!! It was touching, yet sophisticated. We were the only people there, which was amazing!! I loved learning the history of iconic man and how much his family cared for him, even after his death. Go check it out if you haven't yet, my daughter's girl friend grew up in Seattle and had never been there!!

Danny P.

Yelp
Amazing as you would expect . A beautiful memorial for a legend . Must see not just for Hendrix fans but anyone that can appreciate music history or cemeteries
google avatar

Yelp
Easy to find. Visited the lovely memorial before road tripping back to MN. Hard to grasp his tremendous talent and impact on the world. Respect. Lipstick kisses everywhere.
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Back in the day there was nothing......I repeat, NOTHING better than smoking some "good stuff", laying down and throwing on the headphones and listening to Jimi Hendrix. It took you to a different world. Words cant even describe how good it sounded. Nowadays even without the "good stuff", Jimi Hendrix music is still the best! I decided to take a drive out to his memorial today. I arrived and nobody else was there. I snapped a few pictures and sat there in awe with Hendrix playing in my mind. It was a great time. The memorial is really impressive. Its huge! It also has lyrics to Angel, Voodoo Child and Little Wing on the columns of the memorial. Its surrounded by purple flowers. I'm glad I got to see it. RIP James Marshall Hendrix.....the greatest guitar player of all time!
google avatar

Frank B.

Yelp
Excuse me while I kiss the sky! The new James Marshall Hendrix memorial is spectacular. The Hendrix family really went all out to upgrade Jimi's final resting spot. I applaud them for not only giving Jimi & The Hendrix Family a beautiful viewing place location, but the Hendrix family also gave the fans who pay homage to Jimi an area they can spend some time, light a candle or even play a tune should they bring an instrument. Jimi's new grave site also allows people interact with Jimi and not to trample on other people's graves as in the past. I'd say this is the best musicians gravesite I've paid my respects to. Grab a candle & some picks and go pay tribute to Jimi, it's the least you can do to salute an ICON!
google avatar

Kurt Q.

Yelp
Really liked this memorial. The other 430,200 graves were only okay, though.
google avatar

Jonathan R.

Yelp
Opened in 2003, the Jimi Hendrix Memorial was a project spearheaded by his father Al. Originally buried in a normal grave at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Al wanted to create a monument worthy of his son's musical legacy. Unfortunately Al didn't get to see the completed project--he died two months before it's opening. On each of the walls of the memorial, there are etchings of Jimi's likeness along with lyrics from his most famous songs. The center of the monument was supposed to house a statue of the guitar god, but it has never made it to the spot--if it even exists. Much of the Hendrix estate has been contested among the family members and many suggest the statue remained in limbo as a result of that family discord. Yelp
Review # 666............ Have lived her my entire life and never have been here. Big one developed an interest in seeing famous people's resting places. So her Dad brought her here on a Saturday and she loved it. Ironically, I went to court across the street on Monday and decided to stop by. It really is a beautiful memorial and there were several people here when I stopped, who all wanted to share stories with me. Unfortunately, I'm not a big Jimi fan (I've tried to be but it's just not my kind of music) but this place is a cool memorial to a rock icon!
google avatar

Orlando F.

Yelp
If you are in Sea-Tac area is only a 10-min drive and parking is easy. Nice area to contemplate & there is a Mcdonalds & Chevron right across. It is easy to find as the gazebo is very visible.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Seattle has some amazing pop culture history, which you can check out a lot of at MOPOP but this is a little more somber. Jimi's memorial and grave are exceptionally well done in a clean well kept cemetery. Some people leave tokens of remembrance and appreciation at the site. I loved the etchings on the memorial. If you are a fan and are in the area this is a must stop, I recommend Bruce and Brandon Lee's gravesites as well, but that's in another cemetery.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
I didn't think I'd ever write a review of a grave on Yelp, but this is no ordinary grave - it's a monument to the late, great Jimi Hendrix. It is truly beautiful - a stone gazebo etched with portraits of Hendrix, lyrics in his handwriting, and at the center a magnificent sculpture of one of his guitars. Yes, it's in a cemetery (and it is in fact the grave of Hendrix and various members of his family), but we played Purple Haze and had a nice chat with other visitors while visiting. Some of those before us had left their respects in the form of lipstick prints on Jimi's face ("Scuse me, while I kiss this guy"). I brought my music-loving cousin from the midwest and he was as impressed as I was - it's a grand memorial, worthy of the great talent it honors, and well worth a visit.
google avatar

Victoria T.

Yelp
"It's funny how most people love the dead, once you're dead you're made for life. " Jimi Hendrix I don't think this is what he meant.
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
I must admit I never left the car. It was raining. The baby was sleeping. I'm not a Hendrix fan. It is a lovely memorial and quite accessible. If "Excuse me While I Kiss This Guy [sic]" has meaning for you, by all means stop by. For me it was a nice diversion while trying to drive and keep the baby asleep.

Bill J.

Yelp
This is such a first class exhibit/memorial. And the grounds are so well maintained. I am embarrassed to admit that as many times that I have visited the Seattle area in the last decade or so that I not only hadn't visited here, but didn't even realize that it existed. Pretty freakin lame on my part. Everything about it helps one develop a tangible picture of whom Jimi Hendrix was as a performer and musician and what he did for and meant to the world of rock n roll music in the late 60's. His contributions to guitar playing were relentless. Very impressive and a moving experience for me. Clearly his father had an amazing sense of vision and it was obviously passed on to his son.
google avatar

Josie T.

Yelp
Beautiful memorial. It is open to the public and easily accessible. Once you step inside, the engraving and lyrics will set you at awe. Also around the memorial, you will see two headstones of his family members. I know I was awestruck.
google avatar

Nikki A.

Yelp
So intimate and special. We were amazed to be the only people there on a beautiful, sunny day. Definitely worth the short drive from Seattle!
google avatar

Alden C.

Yelp
I have been meaning to go to the Jimi Hendrix Memorial for quite sometime but in my mind I thought the location of it was in some isolated neighborhood in Northern Seattle. Well, I was wrong. It was much closer than I thought and Renton is just a hop, skip and a jump for me in Tacoma, providing traffic is not at a standstill. This shrine is a beautiful tribute to the legendary rock star and the Greenwood Memorial Cemetery is a very pretty place for where the memorial is. I'm sure there are always a small trickle of people coming around and in the memorial's gazebo like the cold, wintry day I went and possibly even crowded during the summer but the day I picked was just perfect! The pillars which show etchings of Jimi are wonderful and his fan's small little tributes are also quite touching. If you love your rock and roll and like to pay respects to the Gods of Rock and Roll this is a must stop. There is also a Jimi Hendrix statue in Capitol Hill in Seattle but this is the actual memorial.
google avatar

Roger T.

Yelp
One of the greatest if not the greatest guitarists of all time is laid to rest here. Even though Jimi was a humble guy, this memorial is well deserved. Located at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Renton, you cannot miss the 3 granite pillars that support the large granite dome. Let's talk a little history here. When Jimi died on Sep 18, 1970 in London, England, his father James "Al" Hendrix made sure his body was flown back to Seattle where he had a plot ready for him at Greenwood Memorial. Despite barely having the funds to do all this, Al made it possible for this to happen. This is where his vision of a beautiful memorial was to be built which would include other Hendrix family. At the time all Al could afford was a simple headstone for Jimi. In 1995 after a 2 1/2 year legal battle, Al regained the rights to Jimi's music. As a result, it came with financial security so Al fulfilled his vision of a great memorial for his son and other family members. Construction began in 1999 and was slated to be finished in June of 2002. Unfortunately, in late 2001 Al's health gradually deteriorated and sadly he passed away in April of 2002 just months before the construction was to be completed. His family vowed to finish the memorial and to keep it highly maintained. What you see now today would not be possible without the vision and commitment of Jimi's father and surviving family. It is an awesome sight to see. If you have young kids, please make sure to remind them where they are and to show respect by not playing around the memorial or any where in the cemetery for that matter. As for Jimi's musical legacy, his music will be forever be remembered as one of the pioneering leaders in the early electric guitar era. So whether you are a fan or not, there's no denying that this memorial is an awesome sight to see. There's no other way to describe it but as "The Jimi Hendrix Experience". Pun intended. Yelp 2015 Review #61 560 overall

Yelp
I came here to pay respect to Jimi. Jimi is great. While you are there make sure you respect Jimi. Smoke one up and leave no trace.
google avatar

Yelp
If you're gonna celebrate 4/20, come to the Jimi Hendrix memorial and burn one in his honor. I also like the statue that they have in Seattle. They often dress it up for the holidays too.

Robin Z.

Yelp
I know nothing of the dirty little details behind the accomplishments or foibles of the late Jimi Hendrix (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=jimi%20hendrix&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CDwQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FJimi_Hendrix&ei=1k8UT9uXFqfYiAKsp-m6DQ&usg=AFQjCNELRbrJHugf4M8diUbPq8Qag4Edag), nor do I care to know. He would either hate or love this gaudy, over-the-top memorial (he did have flamboyance going for him, didn't he?). How do I rate this gross monstrosity? What does it mean? Who the fuck cares? From what I understand, he wanted to be buried in England yet here he is, chilling under marble in Renton,WA. (shoulda had a will) All I know for sure is that at one major crossroad of my life, his music meant a lot to me. As a young soldier, overseas and alone, I'd hear "All Along the Watchtower"(http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=all%20along%20the%20watchtower%20lyrics&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCwQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lyricsfreak.com%2Fj%2Fjimi%2Bhendrix%2Fall%2Balong%2Bthe%2Bwatchtower_20071646.html&ei=W1YUT5-GEM3XiQLqt-HSDQ&usg=AFQjCNFu2QFhOg6ddxOOpDGoryCslHTtew) and it put me into another world. I can't describe it but It was as if Jimi saw where I was, heard the loud, noisy rotors beating the air as soldiers, burdened with gear, up-assed into the waiting bird and he knew, my brothers and sisters, he knew. Some of us may not be coming back, would anyone know the cost, the worth? The music had to be loud and pure and from the first note to the last, he touched my life with that song. It was Jimi that heard me, not Dylan. And of all the songs I've ever heard, it will be Jimi's guitar-work on this song that gets me down to the core, forever. Maybe you'll say I've smoked too much pot, dropped too much acid, flew too high or been held underwater too long. It doesn't matter. This is MY review, my 500th at that. And this one is for Jimi...so 'scuze me while I kiss this guy. P.S., and it's my opinion they should back-hoe it all up and move it next to Pike Market Place. Yeah, you know what I'm talkin' about. And stop acting so crazy!
google avatar

Yelp
The freaking Jimi Hendrix Memorial, Rock's eternal guitar god, only has 3 reviews? Say it ain't so, Joe; there you go again! If this project was funded by deep pockets, it would be much more of a tourist attraction (the website says that 14k visit the memorial each year). Instead, it was funded by the Hendrix family, who were entrenched in legal battles for ages, and most likely didn't get what they were asking for. Upon reading the info on the site, it indicates a granite full-sized sculpture was being produced in Italy-in 2004-well, I've been a couple of times, and there is no statue to be witnessed.....the money must have run out. Yes, this memorial is very weird; it doesn't have much rhyme or reason to it-you would never know this is where jimi hendrix and family are buried.....and it's in Renton because that's where Hendrix grew up, morons!
google avatar

Elle A.

Yelp
Giving this memorial anything less than 5 stars should be illegal. Love you Jimi. "Imagination is the key to my lyrics. The rest is painted with a little science fiction." Jimi Hendrix (obviously)
google avatar

Jane D.

Yelp
If you haven't been here and are in Renton, by all means go. Our native son! The best guitarist ever! This place is easy to get to and parking is a cinch. Loved you Jimi! Love you still....
google avatar

Bryan G.

Yelp
The Catholics have Rome, the Muslims have Mecca! This is my house of worship! If you are a Hendrix fan you need to come see and experience (no pun intended) this hallowed ground for me.
google avatar

Clayton J.

Yelp
I have to admit I can't sing complete lyrics to a Jimi song and despite owning a greatest hits CD for at least a decade, it remains unopened. That is the impact that Jimi has had on music. My guess is some people walk, hitchhike, ride the bus, drive cross country, even fly across international line just to visit this place and here were are with it in our own backyard. A flame that flickered out too soon and worth your time just to be in the presence of greatness.
google avatar

Yelp
Impressive memorial to Jimi. It stands out & isn't hard to locate but the easiest way to find it is to take the 2nd driveway off of Monroe south of NE 4th St. If you do it correctly, the memorial should be directly in front of you. FYI, there are also plans to build a park & memorial to Jimi in a field next to the NW African American Museum on S. Massachusetts St in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle. The museum is small but currently has an interesting exhibit re James Baldwin while living in Turkey on display, including a short documentary film in wc he speaks about his life in Turkey, his writing, homosexuality & other issues.

Carla L.

Yelp
Beautiful, so peaceful, well kept grounds, well done memorial. Worth the drive after visiting the EMP.
google avatar

Kat D.

Yelp
Renton sounds like it's really far away, but it's actually pretty darn close! Plug Greenwood Memorial Cemetery into your favorite navigation device and you'll be there in no time, give or take a few minutes given Seattle's inexplicable traffic. When you get there, you can't miss the dome with three pillars paying tribute to the fabulous Jimi Hendrix. It's quite a beautiful tribute with what seem to be consistently fresh flowers (someone came and swapped them out when we were there when they barely seemed weathered) and I'm glad we finally checked it out. Just remember, it's a cemetery and there are people visiting their lost loved ones there. Basically, be respectful.
google avatar

Irene T.

Yelp
I live in Renton and have never visited the Jimi Hendrix Memorial until this past weekend with some out of town guests. It's a nice memorial and easy to get to from the side gate entrance. You don't have to be a fan or follower to know that Jimi was loved by many and it shows at his memorial. There were plenty of lipstick kiss marks on the artwork depicting his likeness and there were plenty of gifts (flowers, guitar picks, beer, etc.) that people left for him at the memorial too. The artwork even shows some of his writing.

Yelp
Gorgeous - rememberable memorial. October 09, 2014. - Visiting the area, so definitely stopped by to pay respects.

Yelp
You can find this beautiful memorial/dedication to a Seattle music icon, Jimi Hendrix. There are inscriptions of his lyrics, signature and pictures. I definately felt his spirit there, very peaceful no matter how turbulent his past was. Peace.Love.Jim!
google avatar

Monty S.

Yelp
Someone said, "who the fuck cares?" Well I care. Thank you for all you taught us Jimi.... Rest In Peace!!
google avatar

Rex S.

Yelp
The coolest thing about this was the burned out stoners we met who thought we shared a unique religious "experience" because "We all miss Jimi, man!"
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
Well it's a cemetery. I don't get it, I mean he isn't going to rise from the dead. But we went anyways. Lovely monument to Mr. Hendricks and flowers and things left for him by his fans. Some of his relatives are buried there as well. There was a funeral there as well that day so I felt a little strange just being there. There's a nice Asian burial area next to it....
google avatar

Yelp
It's jimi, sure they built something well after his death (did the exhume his body?). Everyone got to see Jimi right?
