Jimmy’s A&A

Ok I came here because I was recommended by many people online to come. So I did but honestly I wasn’t really that stoked about it. The pita was cold when I was handed it, the chickens flavour was okay but it wasn’t anything to write home about. Perhaps that is all my own taste and expectations so I would keep that in mind while reading this. However there was no sanitation like I saw the girl make the shawarma but grab my shawarma with her bare hands and that in itself just made it a bit unappetizing. Proper food handling requires clean hands yes but also regular glove changes and never touching food without some ppe. Hairnets are also required too for hair open from the back. Also the washroom didn’t have any toilet paper or a spare roll in it 🥲 the service was okay they were nice but nothing that made it exceptional. The patio area was beautiful but a lot of the tables were dirty with dirt or previous people who ate there.

Ok friends. I am from Halifax and know donairs even though I have been in Toronto for 30 years. I go back to Halifax 2 times a year and always go back to Tonys Donair. Jimmy's Donair was excellent and my only feedback was to wet the pita and grill on a flat top so it warmer pita that matches the temperature of the meat. I added the classic tomato, onion and went retro early 80s and added parsley. The team was excellent and super kind. The Baklava was excellent, moist and buttery sweet. Looking forward to dropping next time I am in Calgary. FYI I tried the garlic sauce on the side with some chicken as a sample and that was the best garlic sauce aka Toom I ever tried. Simple ordering process. Order once you enter and they will write your order on the bag. After ordering you can browse and see what other grocery items or drinks you may want to pick up. Order is made fresh so meat is juicy and and not dried out. Once they are finished with your order you can pay and be on your way. A handful of patio tables outside or you can take your order to nearby park.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve been here. Food is still outstanding and they’ve expanded what they offer since I’ve been here last at this location (granted, it’s apparently been almost two decades). So good. Definitely four thumbs up. 👍

Our first time coming here and they were very welcoming. We recieved free samples upon entering. They have a great seletion, fair prices, and one of my favorite donairs in calgary.

The taste is really authentic. If you are. A first timer don’t forget to ask for some sample.owners are amazing as well as the staffs. Platter and wrap both are equally amazing. Yasna is amazing!!!!!

My girlfriend and I love coming to Jimmy’s, and we always make sure to bring a large appetite! All of their food is so fresh and delicious, and their vibe & customer service is unbeatable. Yazna went out of her way to ensure our meals were exactly what we wanted them to be. Thankyou Jimmy’s, already looking forward to our next visit. :)

This is one of the best shawarmas in Calgary. Super delicious food. The service is friendly and they’ve got a nice variety of other grocery items as well.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon. Workers were friendly and the place looked very clean. Food was delicious! We also got some sweets to bring back and they were a perfect mix of nuts, honey, and filo dough.

Jimmy's s is an old standby been around for years when it started. Jimmy himself actually lived upstairs and went to SAIT. Many years later, there's still family on the front end and it shows. The Samosas are particularly amazing. You can watch them actually making them no factory stuff here. We also got the family platter. I think it said that it was good for five people, but they didn't say is it was for multiple meals excellent quality, food and lots of it

Was driving through Calgary and found this little gem tucked away in a little neighbor. This is a no frills shop, but don't let that scare you away - the food is incredible. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the staff, and asked if this was our first time. We had said yes, and they offered us samples of everything to try before ordering. I appreciated this because I went in thinking I was getting one thing, and after the sample changed my mind. I got the lamb - it was so flavorful and not greasy. the wrap was the perfect amount of food. I would recommend this to anyone coming to the area and will absolutely be stopping back if I'm ever in the area again.

Would recommend! We stopped from out of town and when they asked if we had been there before, they kindly offered to give us samples of all the meat/falafel. Everything was so good! Tasty, flavorful, and filling. I had the chicken shawarma but could not have gone wrong with the other options. There is not much room in the building to sit, but outside there are chairs and tables.

Entertaining filling and so tasty the food is so fresh and delicious that you want more but the portions are so big that you can't eat anything else... but you must save a little bit of room for the baclava

From out of town and just walking around and ran into Jimmy's. Welcoming staff and awesome food. If I'm ever back in Calgary I'll definitely be going back.

I personally think Jerusalem is still better. Especially in terms of donair meat and sauces. I think Jerusalem has way more flavour and their hummus and sauces are made better and have more flavour. However, their customer service is great and they do put A LOT of meat. I tried asking the guy behind the counter "how do I eat the grape leaf rolls" and he offered me a sample to try which I ended up ordering 3 and I really loved them. It had a slight tangy taste to it but it was good. This place is not terrible for donairs so it's worth giving it a try! I just personally think Jerusalem is still my favourite.

Thank you so much Huda for helping our prep for our banff hike! We decided to come to Jimmy's to get food for our hike this week and Huda made sure we had sufficient utensils, food, and everything. Her generosity is unmatched and the food is amazing! Thank you to the staff for giving us samples and making us feel like home.

I went to Jimmy's today around 6:30 for dinner. I originally wanted a lamb platter with 200g extra protein, sweet sauce and garlic sauce on the side and a chicken samosa, but I might've come too late and they were out of what I wanted. I instead ordered a beef and chicken dinner platter with 200g extra protein on the side and sweet sauce on the side. What I received was a chicken only platter with the extra meat added all together and only garlic sauce and a beef samosa? Because that's all they had. As it wasn't bad it just wasn't what I wanted x2 and because of that I didn't want to finish it at that moment. I understand I came later so menu items aren't always available. And the service was fine, it was a bit of a inconvenience that they didn't take visa but the person helping me allowed me to go to a atm to get cash. As a whole I see Jimmy's as a great business with superb service and excellent food. This one experience just disappointed me.

Amazing place, in love with it after my first time going. The location is very close to my university and so easy. Great building as it's very neat and clean and I could tell right away this place meant something to them and they take care of it like a home. Awesome service there as it was so quick and made with love and they made sure it was exactly what the customer wanted and needed. Everyone was so nice there and was very welcoming and helpful. The food was amazing wow. I ordered a medium beef Donair and it was massive and so good. Couldn't of asked for a better Donair. So many drinks to choose from as well. I definitely recommend it and I will be going back at least once a week!

This is a real hidden gem. Just dropped in the other day with a friend because we had not been there for awhile. We ordered lamb donairs, the portions are generous and taste delicious. Yes, it's a bit pricier but worth every dollar. Only order a large if you are exceptionally hungry. Although it's only takeout and delivery for now it's worth the visit. Normally, you could eat in and browse their extensive deli selection as well as their dessert treats which by the way are delicious. Currently, they are insulating the outside of the building but still open for business. The staff here are always helpful and friendly. Certainly, worth trying!!!

So good. I got a small and I was so full. One of the best shawarmas I've had. They also have so many Arabic sweets.

My first time here and I got the veggie falafel - really good and the small was a big portion for me! Friendly service and a wide selection of desserts, groceries, hookah, and snacks! Now I'm wishing I got some fries or an empanada! Only thing was that it took a while for my order to come out while my friends' meat shawarmas came out quick. I also just want to note that this was my first time seeing parsley garnish on a falafel wrap LOL If you ask for extra hot sauce on the side, I'm pretty sure it's just sriracha because it doesn't look like the red hot sauce with the pepper seeds that I'm used to with this cuisine??

Got a donair, awesome. nuff said. I love this place and the people that work there. Cool new location too!! Well done Jimmys, no slip in quality here. \ 4.75/5 a tiny bit on the pricey side.

We live walking distance to Jimmy's and it's one of our favourite local spots. Even during the "Covid" epidemic the customer service is amazing and the portions are huge. My favourite is adding the Kalamata olives and the drool worthy garlic sauce. You will not be disappointed going to jimmy's for what I can easily say is the "best donair and shawarma" in Calgary.

My first visit to Jimmy's it was clear I was unsure what I wanted. Regulars were coming up behind me ordering like they do it everyday, which is probably not a stretch! I was offered a sample dish (with generous portions of meats and sauces!) and settled on the donair, and was easily convinced to grab a beef samosa as well. Although it's a deli, they have bistro tables with umbrellas set outside so you can have lunch al fresco and enjoy the day. I got a small wrap and it was still HUGE! Chock full of meat, lettuce, tomato and jalapenos with the creamy garlic sauce mmmmm Great first experience here, and it definitely won't be my last!

I really enjoy this place. The food is always tasty and the ingredients fresh. Plus they have interesting things in their small market/grocery section and the staff is friendly.

Excellent quality shawarma. I'm a sucker for their falafel wraps and get everything on it! (Even all the delicious spicy things) Been going here for years.

I am always pleased when I find local, family owned business such as Jimmy's A & A Deli. The moment you walk in you get that special feeling and you know your meal is going to be awesome. The gentlemen that help us, who I presume is the owner was super friendly and made you feel welcomed. When he learned this was our first time he had us sample a few items and everything was delicious and full of flavors. He explained everything was home made and the food flavors confirmed it. We all decided on the meat with garlic shawarma/wrap since the meat was tender and full of flavor. We also took a selection of stuffed olives, eggplant and hummus that was outrageous. We enjoyed the place so much that we decided to stop on our return trip home(Miami, FL).

Most hospitality deli in town! The owner is very high standards and demand on the food. All the deli food are fresh and tasty. We ordered the medium Chicken Shawarma to share, it was big :p Next time I would like to try the Baklava, and they looked really good. Love here

This was the worst donair I've ever had. We ordered donairs and a donair platter and let me tell you that is not called a donair platter. it came with nothing and when asked for veggies the guy said it's $2 a veggie.. who the hell charges for veggies on a platter. The donairs were tasteless.. if I could give this zero stars I would. very disappointed.. you shouldn't be charging $17 for a large donair when it has no taste.. don't waste your money and time.

We lived in the house next door to this place for nearly the first two years of my life and my dad swears it's the some of the best donair in Calgary. When we visited this past summer and I got to try it, developed memories intact, I can finally agree with him. It has a great little market too, and it's so close to confederation park you can buy food and then just walk over and grab a picnic table or something. Super nice. I'd still live next to it if I could.

Place is amazing, Highly recommended! great customer service and the food is even better. Portion sizes are massive. Walked in and the Owner was friendly, energetic, helpfully and offered samples. Great value for the amount of food they give you.

We got lamb shawarma, chicken samosa. Jamaican Chicken Pastry, and an assortment of baklavas. The samosa was good, the pastry was good, the small sized shawarma was really huge and delicious. The all the types of baklava were really really delicious. Awesome place to get some good delicious food.

Picture Homer Simpson when he sees something really delicious that he wants to eat. His eyes close a bit, his mouth waters profusely, and he makes that mouthwatering gargling sound. Do you have the image in your head? Well, that's probably me exactly when I think about eating at Jimmy's! It's so delicious that whenever I think about it, I have an instant craving! The amount of food you get for the price is unbelievable! The donairs and shawarmas are so big I struggle to finish one. Even when I'm stuffed to the brim, I can't bring myself to throw any away, so I always make myself sick by force feeding the remaining wrap into my mouth. I wouldn't for one second dream of wasting a Jimmy donair. I know that everyone who goes here will all be saying the same thing: it's so delicious and marvelous that nothing else will ever be satisfying again! The first time I went in here I had no clue what I was doing or what I wanted to eat. Lucky for me, Jimmy was behind the counter serving people and he pointed me in the right direction of something yummy. He was super friendly and extremely helpful. Don't tell Jimmy but I kind of have a little crush on him. Maybe that's why I keep going back. Nah, it's because of how fantastic the food is. Besides the donairs and shawarmas, they also have a bunch of little desserts you can buy. There is a whole display of baklava and other yummy looking treats. Along with the food, Jimmy's is also a great place to go if you want to buy some shisha or hookah pipes. They have a large assortment of different sizes and shapes, and all the flavours that you can imagine smoking. I seriously love Jimmy's so much. I miss the days when a friend used to live behind the store and we ate there almost everyday. Now I have to go a little out of my way to get there, but it's totally worth it every time. I love Jimmy's so much and I'm positive that everyone who goes there loves it too. Okay woah. Jimmy's A & A is a true hidden gem located on the corner of 20th Avenue in the NW, sure it may look ghetto but its ghetto good!! Its a small place with a ton of food. Whenever I go, I always order a shawarma which is a Arab sandwich-like wrap. They make the BEST CHICKEN SHAWARMAS in all of Calgary. They're truly amazing. Sometimes they can be out of the chicken or beef so you would have to wait a couple minutes, but its definitley worth the wait! Fresh chicken or beef? Yes please!! Just like everyone else said, the SMALL is huge! (~$9) They stuff the wrap with the meat and have this amazing garlic sauce, lettuce, pickles, onions and tomatoes (if you want all of the toppings) and you can get it spicy or not. The spice is just some hot chili sauce they squeeze on. But the wrap itself has SO MUCH FLAVOR! Not only can you taste it, but you can actually see the spices on the meat. Its mouth watering. There is a very strong garlic taste but I love garlic! So I dont mind.. They do have a big selection of food, from salads to shawarmas to samosas to baklava! I ordered 3 random pieces of baklava for after and they were nice and flaky. They seem really oily (which they are) but they're delicious! Ps. If you order a shawarma, be sure NOT to take the shawarma completely out because it can get very messy...the paper bag and wax is like a support system for the wrap. Keep it in or it'll all fall out! :) Pps. If you haven't been there, I suggest you to go ASAP!!! You won't be disappointed.

I had the small chicken shawarma. The presentation was great and the portion size of meat was very generous! The small is like a large for me so I saved the remaining half for later. The shawarma was flavorful. They also sell ethnic food so I got a chicken samosa, haloumi cheese and ayran yogurt drink. The establishment is well maintained and the staff are very friendly!

It's the best food you'll ever have made by the friendliest people. It's not just that the Donair is delicious, but EVERY BITE is perfect. It's an art. This place is magic.

Went for the first time and they offered us a sample plate with all three meats. It was tough to choose, they are all amazing. Portions are very generous. We had beef donairs and the chicken platter. Both were great. You can't go inside right now, so they are set up to take your order outside. They gave us some baklava too. Will definitely go back again.

The service from the staff was excellent, the food is very generously portioned... the baked goods isle is mesmerizing. We had the beef donair and chicken schawarma. We ordered the small, and it was already bigger than the size of my face. Beware of super garlic-y breath after consuming food from Jimmy's. Awesome beyond words. You can also get everything from hookas to pita bread while you're there waiting for your food to be served. What a great little local joint!

Stopped by for lunch work. They have 3 sizes (small, medium, large). I had the medium and it was a lot of food! Honestly I don't eat that much so I probably could've done a small. A coworker of mine got large and his was humongous! We also got a small spicy hummus which was more than enough hummus for 2 people. I wanted to try the chicken and beef so I got the combo schwarma, and it was amazing! I would definitely recommend this place. The schwarma was delicious.

I don't normally write reviews on Yelp, but I wanted to give Jimmy's a heads up as we had quite a negative experience this evening. We wanted to order one shawarma and one platter, and the gentleman assisting us with our order did a poor job explaining what was included as our impression from what's advertised on the website was that a platter included meat, rice, and salad along with dip. After struggling to communicate and understand what was/wasn't included, we decided to order the platter and add a salad because he stated the platter was only "meat and rice". Once getting home we found that the food was soggy and flavorless , and the platter itself wasnt even worth eating. Disappointing to say the least - Jimmy's used to be my go-to shawarma spot but I won't be back anytime soon.

Gf and I were craving Donair and Jimmy's is super close to our place, so we decided to try it out. We ordered two Donairs and two pieces of baklava. The Donairs were a little cold, but delicious nonetheless. Once we got back home we realized the baklava wasn't included with the rest of our order. I went back about a half hour later to see if I could get the two pieces we hadn't received and the man I spoke with was super nice. He gave us 5 pieces, which my gf and I really appreciated. We'll be back!

It's ok. Lots of toppings on the lamb schwarma. They are huge. It was very busy and we waited a good twenty five minutes for two schwarmas. The garlic sauce is strong. It seems like they know what they are doing. A well oiled assembly line. It is quite messy to consume. It would be nice if it had a plastic bag to hold the wrap like some other places. Also, the meat has a good taste; a quick pan fry on it would be nice. Some places do this and it makes all the difference. It kind of just tastes like seasoned boiled meat at this point.

How the hell in the world shawarma & donair place charges for Hummus?? Thats call greedy.

This is the best Donair I have eaten in a long time. Staff was friendly and chef was very generous with the portion. Great place but, not mean't for fine dining.

Just went today and got the large chicken swarma to share with my husband! Fresh cooked spiced chicken so tender and tasty! Of course I also got 6 fresh baked baklava and also 2 delicious large samosas for supper later! A line up formed behind me and was quite busy for lunch. The lady at the till was very friendly and efficient serving the customers. Soooooo good and worth coming here for sure!

The donairs are quite flavourful, and always leave me satisfied.I enjoy a plain-Jane donair with little more than beef, lettuce, a few hot peppers, hot sauce, and sweet sauce. I find their system quite organized, and they seem to be doing quite well having a steady flow of patronage for decades now! I'm sure the baklava is factory made. I'd just die to get some of the gooey home-made stuff! I guess that's why I'm holding out on the fifth star here--that's what I'm waiting for!

I used to come here once a week, however in recent months there was a steady decline in quality culminating in a bout of food poisoning. As a result, I would question the cleanliness and hygiene of the premises. The food itself also lacks character, with excessive use of sauce. In my opinion, avoid.
