Grand Hyatt Shanghai

"Starting on the 53rd floor of the 88-story Jin Mao Tower, this property has views of the Huangpu River and the city beyond. Service is said to be outstanding for guests staying in the East Asian/Art Deco rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, well-lit work areas, and headboards with Chinese characters. The menu at Kobachi on the 56th floor lists sushi, grilled skewers, and rice and soups."

The main reason to visit the Jin Mao Tower is the viewing area on the 88th floor, which gives you a truly amazing panorama of Shanghai form up high. The elevator ride is quick and smooth, and then you can gaze at the city from a fine vantage point. Bonus: There is a shopping mall on the lower floors (where the elevators are) which has numerous snack and convenience stalls with very modest prices. Another bonus: You can look from the 88th floor into the lobby of the hotel, a dizzying view.

A good experience on the 88th floor observation deck, but it's behind glass! From memory I think the ticket price was around 100 RMB. Great views of Pudong if it's a clear day, not so good on our visit. If being on the 88th floor doesn't do it, you can get your adrenaline going by doing the external skywalk at an additional cost. No, we didn't before you ask! Alternatively have a look down at the internal atrium, that should get your head spinning. Allow about an hour for your visit (excluding wait time).

It's less crowded than Shanghai tower nearby, ticket is a bit cheaper, view of the city is 'zoomed in' comparing to the view from Shanghai Tower. It's worth a visit.

The Jin Mao Tower, standing tall at 420.5 meters (88 floors) in Shanghai’s Lujiazui district, is one of the city’s most iconic skyscrapers. While it’s often overshadowed by the nearby Shanghai Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center, Jin Mao has a unique thrill that sets it apart: the Skywalk—a glass-free outdoor walk around the tower's 88th floor.

Short queue to buy a ticket. The elevator ride up is very smooth, ears pop near the top, 88 floors. Viewing deck is very large and has souvenirs shops there. Nice views on all sides and down the central shaft too. You can see the grand piano on the ground floor in the atrium.

Jin Mao Tower is an iconic Shanghai skyscraper combining sleek modern design with traditional Chinese architectural elements. Its observation deck on the 88th floor offers stunning panoramic views of the city and the Huangpu River. While ticket prices are moderate and queues can form, the experience—especially on clear days—is memorable. The tower’s atrium and surrounding areas also make for great photo opportunities.

I had the pleasure of admiring the Jin Mao Tower with its unique facade. It adds a touch of charm to Shanghai's skyline, standing out amidst the surrounding buildings. Whether viewed from afar or up close, its architectural beauty is undeniable. Staying at both the W Hotel and EDITION Hotel suites provided me with spectacular views of this tower, enhancing my appreciation for its architectural charm.

On the day of our visit, we had to queue up for more than 3 hours to get to the lift. There was a very big crowd comprising of foreign and local visitors including groups of students. The lift to the observation deck on the 88th floor was super fast. The deck was also packed with people. It was difficult to find a spot to view and take photos of the scenery below. The glass windows were smeared with greasy finger and palm prints. Honestly, it was very uncomfortable and we left after a few minutes up there. Again, there was a long queue to take the lift down.
