"Transport yourself to a different place and time with a simple stroll through San Antonio’s Japanese Tea Garden, a lush expanse full of shaded walkways, stone bridges, blooming flowers, and spectacular koi ponds. The garden was originally created between July 1917 and May 1918 using prison labor. Local residents donated bulbs and plants to beautify the landscape and, in 1926, a local Japanese-American artist named Kimi Eizo Jingu moved into the space and opened the Bamboo Room, where he served tea and light lunches. Thanks to a major renovation that concluded in 2008, the garden is as stunning as ever. It’s an especially wonderful spot for photos when visiting San Antonio."

I wouldn’t come here for the food but the experience is ok. It was a bit pricey but expected for a tourist spot. The buns are more chinese style than Japanese, and tasted ok but i wish the chicken karaage bun had more filling. The krab salad bun was ok. I would not recommend the luke warm gyoza, however i do recommend the Tuna poke nachos. I was curious what “sweet green tea” was but it turned out to be unsweetened green tea. Overall it was a ok experience.

🌸✨ Jingu House at the Japanese Tea Garden – A Hidden Gem! 🍱🍵 Wow... just WOW! 🤩 I had the most incredible dining experience at Jingu House and I can't stop thinking about it! Nestled right inside the beautiful Japanese Tea Garden 🌿⛩️, this place is a total vibe! I ordered a full-on feast and everything was chef’s kiss 👨‍🍳💋: 🍣 Spicy Crab Roll Sushi – So fresh and packed with flavor! 🥬 Tofu Katsu Bun – Crispy, savory, and that soft bun was perfection! 🌵 The Nopal Bowl – A beautiful San Antonio twist with bold flavors. 🥢 Veggie Spring Rolls – Light, crispy, and served with a delicious dip. 🍰 NY-Style Cheesecake with Matcha Cream – SERIOUSLY next level!! Creamy, rich, and that matcha drizzle? 😍 🥤 Mexican Coca-Cola – The authentic taste hit just right! The service? 💯 I ordered straight from the table using a QR code, and BAM 💥 my food arrived ASAP! Super fast and friendly staff 🙌 and shoutout to the fans outside — kept the patio cool and refreshing! 🌬️☀️ Didn’t try the bar 🍸 (I don’t drink), but it was poppin’ — clearly a hit with others! Whether you're a local or visiting, HIGHLY recommend this spot if you're craving something fresh, flavorful, and unique. 🍽️🧡 From the presentation to the taste, they nailed it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10 experience! Will definitely be back! 💕🇯🇵

Thai tea is basically orange colored water, same with the matcha. Doesn’t help when there is a whole layer of ice water on top too. The boba is close to car tire texture and is also tasteless. The tofu kind of stinks on the inside and is super firm. Only thing that tasted good was the pickled cucumber and the cheesecake was slightly good. Chicken katsu was ok. At least they had giant fans beaming the seating area.

Blown away by the great experience. Great classic Japanese American dishes with a view. Sitting inside the restaurant looking out at the gorgeous view. It’s almost like a treehouse restaurant. Friendly staff & very hard working I’ve noticed everyone was very productive (not just standing around on their phones) & goes above with their service.

Great blackberry ramble cocktail. Outside patio was shaded is some spots. Had the Chicken katsu. It was good. Servers very helful. Better place to eat versus the zoo.

Google
Food presentation, beautiful, nice place to sit when the weather is nice outside. However, if you like light seasoned food and not in a rush, stop here. Service is, in my opinion, extremely slow. We had to ask to sit down because the front guy did not or would not acknowledge us. After that, the waitress took forever for anything. With a total of 3 tables, I feel like it shouldn't have been such a struggle. On top of that, all of our food came to us cold and not a lot of flavor to it, soo disappointing. So with that I say this place is a 2.5. The best part was sitting outside enjoying the weather.

Google
We went and though it was a wait and a bit pricey the food was well worth it, super good and the servers were nice, we had the valentines special and me and my partner got a free slice of cheesecake as a valentines couple, overall amazing place we definitely plan to return

Google
We came here for a drink after exploring the Japanese garden. We sat inside because it was really humid outside, but the patio was busy with guests when we were there. Inside there aren't as many tables but there is ac and big windows and natural lights. We were attended to right away by our server Lily who was super nice! She helped us decide on cocktails and we both really liked our selections. The bartender even stopped by our table to ask us how our drinks were! My bf really liked the Jasmine ginger Margarita. I had the blackberry bramble and it was really nice and refreshing. It was sweet and not tart at all which I prefer! I really wanted to try the food but we already had dinner plans, so we will have to come back!

Yelp
IMO, these are the ratings: Food: 4.0/5 Service: 4.7/5 Ambiance: 4.9/5 Total: 4.5/5 The establishment is at the Japanese Botanical Garden. So you are paying for that.

Yelp
What a cool and cozy place! My wife and I had plans to visit for a while. The Jingu House was originally the residence of the Jingu family from Japan who created the amazing sunken gardens in Brackenridge Park. Its preservation and conversion to a restaurant had won awards and we were eager to see the results. They don't take reservations, but spur of the moment, we had time for a late lunch today and decided to go. The Japanese Gardens are incredible - but on a cold, drizzly afternoon, we ascended the winding ramp (my wife can't use steps) and went straight to the entry, turning our backs on tantalizing views of the gardens.. Turns out, this was the takeout door. Fortunately, I had seen photos of the dining room so I knew we we'd gone to the wrong entry. We ducked out and found the second door for the dining room. In spite of the confusion, the intimate space is wonderful, with views all around looking across the park. We sat at a comfortable table, well worth the climb up from the parking lot. Our waiter was personable - explaining the order & payment app while also taking our order. I've struggled with similar apps before, but this one was simple to use and made it easy to add to our order and eventually to pay and tip. I was a bit suspicious of the "Asian-Mexican fusion" food concept, but it worked! I really enjoyed my pork bao - with nopales. We had a nice plate of gyoza and my wife warmed up with yummy miso soup. I asked our waiter if the popularity of the gardens brought in big crowds. We were there with only a few others so small dining room never felt crowded. He said that was something they dealt with having outdoor seating in good weather, and there's also takeout. We did spend time admiring the gardens, but it's the food and atmosphere at the Jingu House that will bring us back.

Yelp
The views are amazing & the staff was very helpful and accommodating. You pick your table and scan a QR code to order & pay and they bring the food out to you. Took about 10 minutes, time went by quickly enjoying the view. The fruit was fresh & delicious.. but the bun was to DIE for. Perfectly crispy, with a miso butter that had me savoring every bite. I should've purchased way more but was just looking for a light snack and it did the job. Highly recommend :)

Yelp
This is a quick Grab and Go place to get drinks and snacks while you check out the Japanese Tea Garden. There are popsicles, boba, chips, drinks such as water and etc. They also have potstickers (gyoza) if you're looking for food items. I recommend ordering with the staff under the tent and wait in the pick up area for your order.

Yelp
If you're in San Antonio, take a swing by the Japanese tea garden. It's a lovely place to roam around, and if you do get a chance, try this restaurant, Jinga house. As of the end of January 2025, they have a new menu and it is delicious. We tried the tuna nachos, the macaroni salad, and the spring rolls. We also had a Boba tea and Mexican Coke! Yum. Everything was wonderful and the service is excellent. People watching isn't too bad either, and that adds to the enjoyment of the experience. We give this restaurant five stars.

Yelp
I decided to have lunch here with my family before we took a stroll around the tea garden. It was a pretty warm day but we got outdoor seating and the staff made sure we had some fans pointing in our direction to keep us cool. They made our experience really comfortable and were super accommodating with questions and concerns we had about the menu. Everyone was so so kind and sweet! For appetizers, we got the crispy spring rolls and house made kimchi fries. The spring rolls were crunchy but nothing special. The sauce it came with did pair nicely. The kimchi fries were good but not as mindblowingly good as other people mentioned they'd be. I ordered the tori/chicken katsu for my entree. It looked good, but it was kind of underwhelming. I found the chicken to be really flavorless and dry and the katsu sauce they provided didn't compensate for the chicken. For my drink, I ordered an alcoholic thai tea with boba. To be honest, I don't think it tasted enough like thai tea and the boba was kind of hard. However, the alcohol was definitely there so that's a plus. After our meal, we had leftovers so they graciously provided us to-go boxes and even gave us water in to-go cups with lids! It was a small gesture but incredibly thoughtful and appreciated. Overall, I did really enjoy the atmosphere and I loved how kind and thoughtful the staff were. However, the food left much to be desired. If I came back, I'd probably try some other dishes and avoid the ones I ordered this time around, aside from maybe the kimchi fries.

Yelp
Review is for the " Jingu grab & go" side of the restaurant which is a quick cafe with drinks to go. Menu has the words "boba tea" and listed flavors available, so I ordered a boba tea , taro root flavor. The cashier says "do you want to add tapioca?" I said "you mean the boba???" She said yes. I said "sorry you're asking me do I want to add boba, to my boba tea? Boba tea already has boba in it". She said yes It's $1. I said "you're telling me, it's an extra dollar to make your boba tea on your menu actually have boba in it?" She said yes it's really just milk tea unless you pay extra for boba. I said " the menus says boba tea which means it already has boba!" Confused, I said never mind just cancel the order and walked out. Please change your menu to say "milk tea" and "make it a boba tea for $1 more..." insane. Like how was this even a conversation??? ‍

Yelp
My friend and I came to the Japanese Tea Garden while in town for a conference and had a lovely time walking around the gardens and taking in the scenery! We stopped inside Jingu House to grab a refreshing drink and they had plenty of options! I had an agua Fresca and she did a yuzu slushee, both tasted great and the service was fast and friendly!

Yelp
Conveniently located as you enter this beautiful garden with friendly staff and a nice selections of treats while you take a short stroll around the garden.

Yelp
Perfect place to have lunch while visiting The San Antonio Tea Garden. I can't remember but I believe they do not take cash so please see their policy on that if you need to. It was a small room with just table and chairs so I guess I would call the decor streamlined. You can see Tower of America from one of the windows. I will start by saying the service was slow. We got waters and menu right away but our server did not come around for a while. BUT the food is fresh and delicious!!! It really screamed fresh to me. I had the panko crusted chicken with rice and cucumber noodles. Was very good. My friend had the Raman and loved it.

Yelp
Small shop with some boba power! The staff are busy but they are nice and keep things moving forward. Plenty of things to get at jingu from drinks (adult and adult free), small gifts, and small bites. I ordered a Big Bobowski Outdoor seating is available and on a beautiful mild and cloudy day like today it was a great day to lounge. As part of the Brack' community this little eatery at Sunken Gardens makes enjoying a coffee or other beverage nice while overlooking the gardens or the rest of the park.

Yelp
What a gem!! This garden and coy pond are absolutely beautiful. To be able to have access to this for free is amazing! I'd highly recommend stopping by if you're ever in SA.

Yelp
We just stopped in to grab a drink for our walk around the Japanese Tea garden. $4.58 for a regular size bottled water. A little overpriced. The customer service was wonderful though. The cashier actually gave my daughter a plastic cup of ice water so we didn't have to share the 1 bottle. I understand needing to make a profit- but that seems a little bit overpriced. Next time we will make sure to bring our own drinks. We did donate at the Garden instead of use it for free. Maybe the price is to compensate for the people that do not donate $ when they visit.

Yelp
This is a great place to get food right after your exploration of the Japanese tea garden. They offer a variety of food choice that caters to all eaters. You can have an American brunch or even an Asian cultural one. The waitress was nice and answered our questions. Well soft spoken and the place is small on the inside. Outdoor had a lot of tables and seating. This is a must place to visit and eat.

Yelp
We had a wonderful brunch at Jingu House last weekend! We ordered the lemon drop pancakes as a starter and the steak + congee as an entree. Both were excellent, and it was plenty of food split between two people. We were pleasantly full but not too stuffed when we walked around the Japanese Tea Garden afterward. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable about all the goings-on at the Japanese Tea Garden. Even with lots of families and kids running around the pavilion, the outdoor patio at Jingu House was calm. It's such a beautiful and tranquil spot in Brackenridge Park! If you decide to stop by Jingu House for their weekend brunch, definitely go early and beat the crowd! We arrived at about 10 a.m. and managed to find parking easily enough, but the park quickly became busy and leaving was a bit hectic. (I think we will avoid the parking debacle and just use a rideshare service next time!)

Yelp
Jingu House was recently renovated so I was excited to check this place out on my recent visit to the Japanese Tea Garden! It's super easy to find and there's options to either order to go at the counter or have sit down seating (this was a little confusing and there wasn't a host at the sit-down seating side at first so we had to go ask the togo counter where to go). Once seated, our waitress was super nice and knowledgeable. We ordered a couple of the alcoholic slushy bobas. My friend ordered the gyozas while ordered the poke bowl. The bobas were absolutely delicious and they honestly packed a good amount of booze! The food portions were definitely on the smaller side so I would be mindful about coming here for a big meal, but this was perfect snacking/light lunch size! My poke bowl was light and yummy and I loved everything it came with. My friend also really enjoyed her gyozas. Overall, really great spot!!

Yelp
I had no idea this adorable shop was nestled inside the Japanese tea gardens. Quite an assortment of treats, from coffee, to boba, to sushi, Miso soup, paletas, adults drinks, and ramen. The staff was very busy but keep smiles on their faces and kind words as they took your order. If you're a mom wrangling your kids all day, you have to try the prickly pear sake slushy, mama, I promise, you earned it! They have fun little gifts, jewelry, colorful umbrellas, quick snacks. A must stop !!

Ali H.

Yelp
Tried to order with QR code at Table Payment via Apple Pay or keying in credit card number didn't work. Had to go in to gift shop to order. Very frustrating. Other people at my table had the same issue. We are not luddites. Guy behind me in the gift shop line, same problem. Ordered the Pan Seared Pork Gyoza. Very tasty however won't be back bc too big a hassle to order. Not Cappy's-like at all.

Yelp
4 of us stopped in on a very busy day, but were still able to be seated. Staff was nice and explained the menu and answered all questions. Food was delicious. We came on a hot day, and we were drinking a ot of tea and water. But our waitress never let our glasses get empty. She made sure we had plenty to drink and were well hydrated and a cup to go. She was very sweet. Will be back.

Yelp
I haven't been to Japanese tea gardens in a while. I completely forgot they built this cute eatery. I enjoyed my day with a beautiful walk around the tea garden. Then, I stopped for food before heading home. I love a good charred edamame! I think they season it with lime and tajin, which I've never had before. I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty it was. The chicken salad is made with the spicy mayo and cabbage on potato bread. Honestly, I would totally eat that again. The 2 dishes I ordered tasted great. The service could use a little more attention. Both women were very sweet and pleasant, but I am pretty sure my edamame was forgotten. I had to ask twice where my order was. Other than that, I would, without hesitation, go back to try other selections.

Kimberly B.

Yelp
I was very excited to hear that Jingu House had reopened as a sit-down restaurant, and it did not disappoint! The day we visited it was drizzling, but the overhead canopies still kept us dry, although the table was a little wet. Ordering is done by QR code but the servers are still friendly and helpful. The portions are generous and delicious! It is an interesting mix of Japanese and Japanese-Mexican fusion dishes; we tried the "sushirritos," which are sushi rolls cut into two halves instead of in slices.
google avatar

Shaina M.

Yelp
The garden location itself was beautiful and a great spot to bring my sister in law during her visit. I had expected the tea house view to be over the garden but it looks out the other direction. The food is a little pricey and portions are decent. I docked a star for the venue and one for service/food quality. The service was a little slower than I expected based on the number of guests, the bathroom is shared with the garden as is the parking so arrive early as you may have to walk from the further lot.
google avatar

Carlie M.

Yelp
The tea gardens are one of my favorite places in San Antonio and I was thrilled to learn that Jingu House is now open for dinner! The food and service were top notch, and the drinks were very tasty as well! The hamachi sashimi and seared tuna were both incredibly fresh. We loved the chicken katsu as well, and our server brought us a selection of extra sauces which we really appreciated. This is the perfect spot for a date night, dinner with friends, or a lovely lunch or brunch in the garden.

Barry L.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Eating outside is a great vibe. We had the chicken buns and spring rolls. Yum. The Japanese soda was weird but very tasty
google avatar

Jizelle W.

Yelp
The first impression with the host was odd. There was only 1 table sitting at the patio when we arrived. When we checked in, we were told it'll be an hour wait for a table which we agreed to so we sat down nearby. At some point, somebody came to the host from inside the restaurant and told him, " why are all these tables empty"? I went onto the website and made a reservation for 215pm which was 10 minutes away from the time. I watched him set several people who had been waiting around for a table and then I went up to him and told him I was able to get a reservation. He sat down immediately, despite him previously saying it's an hour wait. Beyond that, the service was great and the food was amazing. Everyone was very kind. I don't normally eat outside of my normal preferences and so some of the food options definitely were outside of my box, but everything was delicious. The garden itself is very small, but the food alone would make me come back.

Sarah H.

Yelp
The food was fantastic. They had a few indoor and some outdoor seating. Limited menu, but the items we got were delicious. Gyoza, Tori katsu, and Unami bowl.

Sammantha E.

Yelp
First it's kinda confusing, there are two doors one for the restaurant and one for the grab & go. The waitress seems to double as the hostess, so if they are grabbing things, you may not see anyone at first when you are trying to get a table. We got a table outside and ordered the Gyoza & spring rolls to start. Both had a unique sauce and came with cabbage & carrots (there was some green dressing on the veggies) we ate it all, it was delicious! We split the Chicken Tori katsu and the Noodle salad. The katsu was so good and paired well with the cucumber noodles, very fresh tasting. I loved it! The noodle salad was different but tasty, a very nice vegetarian option, but it was kinda greasy/oily toward the end of the bowl. I really wanted to try the firecracker shrimp & mole pork steam buns but they were unavailable/sold out. They were also out of the mango sticky rice and the yuzu peach green tea. There were a lot of people so we will have to go earlier next time. Once we were done eating there was a bit of a wait for the check (I wouldn't be surprised if people would just walk away). Our waitress was very nice and attentive but it honestly seemed like there was only one waitress for the whole restaurant. I do like that they have the hand held device so paying was fast and easy.

Dick W.

Yelp
I like this restaurant. The setting in the Japanese Tea Gardens is special, great ambiance. The service was good, but not exceptional. However, they got busy and the wait staff was stretched. The best food item we tried hands down were the pork dumplings. As an entree I had the chicken fried rice and is was weak. It wasn't very warm/hot so it was made earlier and warmed up. It lacked flavor. I really enjoy stir fried rice and order it frequently, it would give it a two when comparing to others I've tried. My wife and her cousins all had the panko breaded chicken breast on rice with cucumber noodles, they said is was good but not great. The sauce was thick, pungent and served cold. I think it could be improved. Our waiter said they had a new chef, so we'll give him some time and try again.

rick N.

Yelp
Good food but got stung by a wasp inside the restaurant and the next 10 days were the worst of my entire life. Service was good, food did take a little while but when it came out it was delicious. 3 stars only because of the wasp

William D.

Yelp
Great food/service/vibe all in an unusual but excellent location in the Japanese tea garden

Matthew L.

Yelp
Place is too small inside not even enough space to walk, didn't receive the drinks we ordered and then had it in the check and have to ask to them to remove it. They were out of steamed buns so couldn't really get the food we wanted. Service wasn't good enough, they came to the table late, didn't check on how we were doing, the food arrived and we didn't have forks. We arrived with a reservation and had to wait anyways.

Hannah J.

Yelp
Service took forever and the mango boba is terrible. Tastes like water with a hint of mango. The atmosphere is great and it could be amazing if the service was faster and better.
google avatar

Angelica G.

Yelp
Would give it zero stars if I could. Food was old (rice was dried out and hard), over priced and not flavorful.

Rachel E.

Yelp
I had lunch at Jingu House, and it was so amazing! I had the miso soup, edamame, and the tori katsu. Very delicious and great service. Before or after you eat, you can enjoy a walk around the Japanese gardens. Such a perfect location and ambiance!!

Renata G.

Yelp
Food was delicious, service was great, and the location is beautiful but the inside seating has limited space, so plan accordingly.
google avatar

Sheila K.

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance are all wonderful. We love it! We went on a Friday and it was busy, but our service was still great.

Mindy S.

Yelp
I decided on a chilly day why not pair it with a hot beverage. It is very small and cozy. Our waitress Lily was very kind and wasn't upset on the idea of just placing an order for beverages. I let my eyes scan for something sweet to pair with the beverages. I saw mango sticky rice however despite both the Japanese Tea Garden and Jingu House close at 5pm so it was sad to said goodbye to not having a chance to taste it. I ordered a hot green yuzu peach tea which is extremely unique combination and I thought why not try something new. The tea was extremely hot and I had to wait awhile for it to cool but it was worth it. So when you visit a tea garden have a sip of tea and relax.

Yelp
Fantastic customer service, great food, insane scenery. Everything about this place is great for a hangout with friends and even date nights with your significant other. Would recommend 20 times out of 10

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! We loved the food. Even our 5 year old loved her bento box. The drinks were special too. Add to that the service and the view of the park and you have a special place to go!

Liz G.

Yelp
Ambiance was so cozy and pretty! The food was fantastic! We got the Gyoza and the steam buns as appetizers, and the Gyoza wrap was so tender and done perfectly. The filling for the Gyoza and the steam bun was delicious and fun with a little San Antonio flare on your taste buds. I got the Tori Katsu with cucumber noodles and my friend got the Ahi Niçoise Salad. The Katsu was crispy and juicy and the cucumber noodles were crunch and flavorful with the sauce. The Ahi Niçoise salad had fresh, seared ahi with a nice peppery and zesty seasoning on the outside. The soft boiled egg with it was cooked perfectly. And overall the dish was light and a great healthy choice for lunch. Service was great! Overall a really fun and delicious experience!

Kat D.

Yelp
The food was delicious, the service was great and we loved the ambiance. The Tea Gardens are a lovely background for this restaurant. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Taylor D.

Yelp
Stopped in here for lunch and had the best time! Service and food were both spectacular! Will be back!

Lily N.

Yelp
Seriously such a refreshing treat after the beautiful (but hot) garden! The staff were very kind and accommodating!

Terra W.

Yelp
We absolutely loved our visit to Jingu House! The ambiance was perfect, the service was quick and they were very friendly. We were visiting from out of town and will definitely come back!

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Don't waste a lot of money here for very little food that doesn't taste good!!! I was extremely dissapointed because we traveled 4 hours to San Antonio for my daughter's 17th birthday. All we got was 3 Tarro bubble teas (that tasted gross) and 3 tiny appatizers (my kids didn't even like them) & my bill was 58 DOLLARS!!!! I bought it because we traveled a long way, we were hungry, & we didn't want to have to go somewhere else to eat, but I wish we had of because we could've went to a nice resturant for this price & had left overs too. Also, the girl at the register didn't smile or even say hi and she seemed like she didn't want to be there!! What a waste of money and time!! When we go to San Antonio again we will never go here again!!!

Yelp
My friend and I visited this restaurant while visiting the Japanese garden and had the worst experience. Since there were a plethora of tea and drink options, we figured we'd both get boba teas to enjoy on the hot day. While waiting for our drinks, my friend's mom asked to try the slushy the cashier was advertising After giving her a sample, we asked what flavor the slushy was and she didn't know. Of course, that was annoying, but we decided to just focus on getting our teas. I didn't realize in the moment, but I saw a 2% milk on the counter and thought maybe the workers were using it for their blended drinks. We both got our teas and headed outside to enjoy them. After a few sips, I was unsure if the drink had regular milk in it. After seeing my friend drink more than half of her tea, I asked her to go ask the workers if they had used regular milk since she is lactose intolerant. Mind you, most people know that if you get boba tea, the tea house typically uses lactose free milk. When she asked what milk they used, the worker confirmed they in fact used the 2% milk! She said, "we do offer oatmilk as well" but the cashier didn't mention this at all!! I was so upset, and decided to throw away my drink! I don't recommend this restaurant at all. They aren't informative of their options and frankly only exist to serve careless food and drinks to patrons of the garden. Please beware!

Donald D.

Yelp
Great food lovely atmosphere enjoy the nice weather and check this place out! Try to cocktails!

Yelp
WARNING do NOT waste money on boba teas, they are tricking you by adding a whole cup of ice and then adding less than a quarter cup of boba tea itself. You are literally giving money for only ice, no tea at all. There were ladies serving us first and our first cup came very quickly, but then they left and didn't tell the other servers that we had more purchases so they made us wait until we realized. ZERO STAR
