The Best Things to Eat in Seoul, According to Chef Eric Ripert

"Jinkwasa is a temple located in the middle of a forest in Seoul, offering vegan temple food. It provides a dramatic view of the mountains and Seoul, accompanied by the sounds of nature like water, trees, wind, and birds, making it an escape from the city's chaos."

Jingwansa Temple is really beautiful and hidden in nature. It is one of the nicest temples I have seen in Korea. What made it even more special was a helicopter flying very close to the temple while I was there it gave a great feeling to the place. The temple area is quite varied with small shops and a café that had really good coffee.

Very pretty temple. Bukhansan National Park is just an amazing area to explore and it's just outside of Seoul. You totally forget you are in Seoul. The temple is really nice. You need to spend some time grabbing a tea and something to eat when you go. The tea is very good.

I love this temple! A restful place away from downtown yet reachable within an hour. It’s very unusual entrance to the temple ground and I’ve seen like this in the past. Lanterns with notes of wishes, so unique and beautiful. What I like the most is to see the kimchi pots, watching monks turning the covers, somehow made me drifting into history of Korea. This place shall be really pretty in the fall. Also very interesting to read a story about the discovery of a Taeguekgi in one of temples, thinking about the brave people in those challenging times. May peace shine upon and guard the world. There’s a local cafe where you can try some Korean desserts and beverages, grandmas working there are super cute and friendly. Combining this temple with the hanok area together, it’ll be brilliant fall foliage day.

Jingwansa Temple is one of the most beautiful and spiritually calming places in Seoul — a true hidden treasure at the foot of Bukhansan Mountain. It’s one of the four major temples of the city, but it still feels peaceful and intimate, surrounded by forest and birdsong rather than crowds. The temple complex is perfectly maintained and full of quiet charm. You can explore the main hall, smaller shrines, monks’ quarters, and traditional stone lanterns, all set against a stunning mountain backdrop. The combination of architecture, nature, and history creates a serene, timeless atmosphere that feels worlds away from the city — even though you’re only about 30 minutes from downtown Seoul. Jingwansa is also known for its temple stay programs, which allow visitors to spend a night learning about Buddhist practice, meditation, and vegetarian temple food. Even if you don’t join a program, you can still enjoy a slow walk through the grounds and feel the deep sense of calm and mindfulness that defines the place. There’s a small entrance area where you’ll find information in both Korean and English, and the temple paths are clearly marked and easy to walk. The best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon, when the light filters softly through the trees and everything feels especially peaceful. Autumn is breathtaking here — the entire valley glows in gold and red leaves. If you’re visiting nearby Eunpyeong Hanok Village or hiking Uisangbong Peak, Jingwansa Temple is an essential stop. It offers the perfect blend of culture, spirituality, and nature — a place where time truly slows down.

Went to Eunpyeong to check out a cafe and did a little trekking to Bukhansan National Park. Many local seen trekking up in groups nearing to noon when it is not so cold but not crowded. Quaint and clean area, very impressed on how they maintained it. Even the washroom near the temple is so clean, you need to change to slippers before you enter. If you are exploring Eunpyeong checking out the hanoks & cafe, do drop by the park & temple. Is about 30-60 mins from Seoul City Hall area depending on your transport options. As the Chinese saying goes, "enter the house you address people", "enter a temple you pray".

Easily accessible via bus. A short walk of about 15 minutes to reach the temple. Serene & peace. Amazing autumn colours 🍂 be mesmerised. The architectures were brilliant & this place definitely worth spending time going through the history. Would like to book temple stay next visit!

A small, beautiful decent size temple with free parking by the hanok village is definitely a quick visit for the peaceful ambience and history about the Korean flag. This is a true temple with quiet atmosphere and prayers, not too overcrowded with tourists like some other temples
